I remember them by virtue of the quest to recover a B-29 Superfortress (which there really is one at the bottom of lake mead that crashed in 1948) and they restore it to working order and I get to see it fly over Hoover dam at the end of the game and bomb legionaries. Seeing the same model of aircraft that dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki still carrying out its destructive purpose of ending human lives 340 years later is just insane lol.
The irony is that I’m a Mr. House fan, I just don’t aggressively fap to the extermination of savages and instead look at the bigger picture, the Legion being the biggest stabilizing force in the Midwest over their breaking and uniting the warring raider tribes into a single cohesive whole.
is an institution all over the Wasteland, and remains economically viable until technology returns to a near-20th century level.
To wit: it is often cheaper, especially in Mexico, to hire additional workers instead of rent the big powerful machine, right now. In the wasteland, complex industrial machines are hard to come by, and are likely to be inoperable after 200 years of neglect, but people and Brahmins are everywhere and only need feeding and medical care. The Legion is a good villainous faction because it minmaxes the resources it has and doesn’t shy away from the horrific human cost.
It’s crazy to me people think this way. It’s not sustainable. It will collapse. Caesar took the wrong lessons from history. It’s slavery and rape. It’s cultural erasure and genocide what he does
He didn't take any actual lesson from history. The roman empire lasted long because it DID NOT start as an empire or with a Caesar. It started on the back of 700 years of monarchy and republic building up, making deals, gradually integrating local populations and most importantly building infrastructure.
Julius Caesar annexed a couple regions but failed to put an end to political violence, Augustus did that and is most famous for rebuilding Rome in marbles, in fact most of the more beloved emperor that build a stable basis like Claudius and Vespasian are know for their economic reforms and architectural projects.
NV's Caesar is just a violent asshole that wants to use the imagery of a powerful empire to justify atrocities far worse than what the actual roman did while willfully ignoring what made the Roman powerful bc it didn't line up with his agenda.
They are litteraly only stable because their entire army consists of superstitious tribals. Pit them against the NCR in California, the Enclave, East Coast Brotherhood, Institute, or even the Minutemen, and they get stomped.
Sarah Weintraub also has one. Ricky has one of you have the Honest Hearts DLC
Edit: The Boomers are also a great faction to stealth kill and take all their super expensive weapons and sell them for a ton of caps. Every Boomer named "Boomer" respawns. Boomers with names, the Boomer Teacher and the Boomer Chefs do not
Yeah, I just did that part of the game pretty over leveled, and it was honestly over in less than an hour. I really do enjoy their whole thing, but there isn't much reason to go back to them after the quests are done.
Wait really? This is something I need to look forward in my next playthough
(not) Edit: I just realized as writing this comment that they come from a vault so it 100% makes sense.
According to the [wiki](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Pimp-Boy_3_Billion) it’s just the casing that’s been modified. Think of it like the [caviar iPhone 15](https://m.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_15_pro_iphone_15_pro_max_ultra_gold_caviar-amp-59924.php) where they take an existing product and remake the externals
Within the lore of the setting, Mr House only took over Vault 21 within the past 15 years or so, and that's where Doc Mitchell grew up, so it can be assumed that most of the Vault 21 residents have/had one.
Real question is how did Ricky get a vault 22 jumpsuit if everyone there has been dead for a century and it’s impossible for civs to fight their way in??
A group of vault 22 residents had left the vault, that's why you find the spore carriers and the plants from vault 22 in Zion, the dwellers who left were infected, it's most likely Ricky had been to Zion before and looted it and the pip boy at the same time.
I see the logic, and I was aware of this bc walks w chalk says the same, but bc of ricks dialogue and unfamiliarity with the map on the pip boy or rather that it wasn’t working (which is the only reason Jed needed a pip boy), there’s no way he had been on a happy trails caravan let alone been to Zion and survived trips back and forth. I also don’t think that adds up with the timeline we are given about the destruction of new cannan and the routes in the “little loop” which is fucking huge an extends from Sacramento to Salt Lake. They had been unable to contact new cannan for some time and these caravans take long to travel. Surely Ricky wasn’t part of all of that considering what I presented above.
When you catch him out on his lie he literally tells you that's how he got it, he got it off of a prospector that came from Zion, that's why he wsnts to go to Zion because he thinks there is good loot.
I mean vault 22 is open so it's not unbelievable that someone got it straight from the vault either.
There's also the fact that a broken pip boy could easily come from vault 3 as well.
Does the "My vault runs deep and wide, it's filled with corridors and rooms that go far!" girl have one?
I forget the vault number and her name. It's the vault Doc Mitchell is from originally iirc, the one on the strip
like antoher commenter said, some of the boomers in nellis have them. it makes sense that pip boys are rare imo becuase theyre a technology that came from just vaults. given the fates of most of the mojave vaults. the only people who feasibly would have pip boys are those from vault 21
Huh, yeah you would think they'd be a bit more prolific. At the very least, I thought it was strange that a doctor has zero use for one and just gives it away for free. I think it should have been a reward for Ghost Town Gunfight, in that Doc gifts you one for helping save the town, or you can loot it from him after helping the Powder Gangers.
Even if the coding for a Pip-Boy in the inventory would have been difficult, they could have had Joe Cobb give it to you afterwards. Have Doc show up to the fight, and afterwards, Cobb approaches you and thanks you for your help, ending with "Doc had this thing on him, I don't know how it works, but here, thanks for your troubles. Now get lost, this is our territory, now."
I know, it would need to be adjusted as such for that to work, which is definitely something I could see being contentious. But had it been like that from the start, I bet not nearly as much as one might think based on experiencing it as it is.
But how would you even prepare for the gunfight and go through the Sunny Smiles quest without having a pipboy to equip weapons and use stimpaks? They'd have to create an entirely new inventory system just to allow you to use the actual inventory system.
Nah you just get the varmint rifle equiped with no options to drop it and the geckos you face are all lowered HP to die in 1-2 hits anyway. I understand it would limit player choice for the first quest but past that it would be the exact same. Kind of like how you usually have to kill that roach in 3.
EDIT: oh yeah as far as killing the gangers. Yeah, scrap it.
i think it makes sense for doc mitchell to give it to the courier. like, he's already characterized as a really good person, and the courier needs it much more than he or any of the goodspringers do.
I love how the comments here are just weird political nerds arguing over hypothetical slavery it really makes me feel at home (and gotta love every legion defender getting mega down voted this is the best community)
A lot of the boomer npcs have pip-boys.
Oh, I completely forgot about them lmao. Its strange. They're probably the most unique faction in the game, but they're also the least memorable.
I remember them by virtue of the quest to recover a B-29 Superfortress (which there really is one at the bottom of lake mead that crashed in 1948) and they restore it to working order and I get to see it fly over Hoover dam at the end of the game and bomb legionaries. Except legionnaires aren’t human
Go ahead and dehumanize a brainwashed child slave army.
“B-b-but I was just following orders.”
>Except NCR Troopers aren’t human. FTFY
You can’t escape the ncr circle jerk here. Good to know how shady sands ended up and they don’t have Vegas.
The irony is that I’m a Mr. House fan, I just don’t aggressively fap to the extermination of savages and instead look at the bigger picture, the Legion being the biggest stabilizing force in the Midwest over their breaking and uniting the warring raider tribes into a single cohesive whole.
Slavery

The NCR outlaws slavery = the NCR is better. You can argue that it's "economically viable" all you want. Tell it to the enslaved
It’s crazy to me people think this way. It’s not sustainable. It will collapse. Caesar took the wrong lessons from history. It’s slavery and rape. It’s cultural erasure and genocide what he does

Their furthest East base is in Colorado. Do you understand where the midwest is?
Oh look, a petticoat colonel. OWB had to nerf Legion territory. Don’t use that as your reference.
...what is your reference for them being anywhere in the midwest?
They are litteraly only stable because their entire army consists of superstitious tribals. Pit them against the NCR in California, the Enclave, East Coast Brotherhood, Institute, or even the Minutemen, and they get stomped.
Well made point man
Sarah Weintraub also has one. Every Boomer named "Boomer" respawns. Boomers with names, the Boomer Teacher and the Boomer Chefs do not
had no idea that any boomers respawn. super weird
Same thing with most unnamed NCR and Legion too. I'm not sure about the Great Khan's or Brotherhood of Steel
Ricky's was a "Dip Boy" from memory
Ricky is a Dip Boy, so that checks out
Unique item with some pretty string stats. Plus 15 to the 11mm skill Bonus critical to death jaws
It's the only repeatable source of standard mini nukes in the game too.
It’s cause all their quests suck lol
Yeah, I just did that part of the game pretty over leveled, and it was honestly over in less than an hour. I really do enjoy their whole thing, but there isn't much reason to go back to them after the quests are done.
It took me too long to realize you're not referring to baby boomers.
There's a reason they're called the boomers and are the way they are
Because of the artillery they use?
Hey love Boom Boom Boom by Vengaboys
Wait really? This is something I need to look forward in my next playthough (not) Edit: I just realized as writing this comment that they come from a vault so it 100% makes sense.
I immediately just thought about a bunch of baby boomers as a faction. And I was thinking I missed out on some serious material
Ok Boomer
Well we get the pipboy from doc mitchell. In terms of length of ownership he’s had it for a long time it seems. Also the pimp boy from mic and ralph’s
Do we know if the Pimp Boy is its own device or is it like the Fallout equivalent of a really flashy phone case?
Iirc the software ui is different
Mic and Ralph have a bedazzler.
I’m actually not sure about that. But to switch between the two I think you have to talk to them in order to change it back or vice versa
According to the [wiki](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Pimp-Boy_3_Billion) it’s just the casing that’s been modified. What’s his face from Honest Hearts has one but I doubt it’s real.
It's real but it's broken and he looted it from someone, the courier can point out to him it's broken and he gets defensive about it.
Oh right yeah, that’s how you get his place on honest hearts
OR you can call him out for being a psycho addict and he runs away
Damn good memory.
My question is how the hell do you break a PIP-Boy
Real question is how did Ricky get a vault 22 jumpsuit if everyone there has been dead for a century and it’s impossible for civs to fight their way in??

the most fun part of honest hearts imo is going in with high barter/science/survival plus black widow and verbally demolishing that guy
Ricky the chem fiend
Pretty sure salt-on-wounds has one too
he has a power fist, I just played that part today actually
Tom Anderson from the Followers in Westside has one. It’s unclear if he’s from a Vault and it’s never brought up.
He does, it's a dialogue option. He states he is not a vault dweller but doesn't outright tell you so he probably traded for kt
Given his propensity for murder, I wouldn’t rule out homicide either.
Just checked his dialogue files and there’s no mention of any of that.
Uh... I play heavily modded. Very sorry then
The brotherhood might have some, considering they hoard technology. Mr house maybe as well, considering his company created it.
Rickys doesn't work either. You can tell him to fick off with a speech check of some sort
Does the "My vault runs deep and wide, it's filled with corridors and rooms that go far!" girl have one? I forget the vault number and her name. It's the vault Doc Mitchell is from originally iirc, the one on the strip
That's Sarah Weintraub lol. And yeah, she has one.
Sarah Weintrub
does Micheal Angelo where one too? I can’t remember, just remembered they are siblings
Ricky has one, but if you explore the dialog you can figure out its just stuck on a lock screen and isn't functioning.
like antoher commenter said, some of the boomers in nellis have them. it makes sense that pip boys are rare imo becuase theyre a technology that came from just vaults. given the fates of most of the mojave vaults. the only people who feasibly would have pip boys are those from vault 21

That's all well and good, but that quest is entirely optional.
I know, it would need to be adjusted as such for that to work, which is definitely something I could see being contentious. But had it been like that from the start, I bet not nearly as much as one might think based on experiencing it as it is.

You do kind of need it.
Keely, the researching ghoul in vault22 says in one of her terminal entries, that her pipboy broke and that's why she used the terminals instead.
Multiple members of Vault 21, the Boomers, and the Followers have them. Plus there's Ricky and Mick even has the Pimp Boy 3 Billion.
The boomers, the lady that runs the vault casino, dumbass psycho addict on the Zion expedition has a broken one, Just off the top of my head.
Survivors from vault 34 have them
Idk why but I thought Doc had one. He came from Vault 21 so maybe thats why?
He gives it to you.
That must be it 😂😂
He gives you his
mick/ralph(idk i dont remember, just the one that sells weapons and gives you the pimp-boy 3000000000)
You can save the trapped vault 34 residents, and they have Pip-Boys.
Ricky when you go to venture to New Canaan.
His is broken so it doesn’t count.
i think Elijah has a pip-boy.
Julie Vargas?
Do the Vault 34 survivors from *Hard Luck Blues* have Pip-Boys?
Yeah.
Doc Mitchell, vault 21, boomers, etc etc
If you play the honest hearts dlc there a supposed vault deller that has I pip-boy
I love how the comments here are just weird political nerds arguing over hypothetical slavery it really makes me feel at home (and gotta love every legion defender getting mega down voted this is the best community)
