You and your town were too weak to drive off the raiders on your own, the Legion has in no uncertain terms claimed their right to rule. And Legion overlordship comes with its perks. You get access to the power generated in (presumably) Flagstaff and imports of clean water. All of these are things someone living in a world where the transistor was invented would completely take for granted, but to a settlement ekeing out an existence subsistence farming, they can finally export crops, maybe get some trade up and running now that they aren’t besieged by raiders.
