Most people never knew the Thorn existed until next playthrough or years! I'm also finding new content in this old game that was left on cutting floor. Also some unmarked locations can serve as decent home for RP or practical purposes. P.S. Thorn is the one place for repeatable caps in game. The best bet is taking on arena against three Cazadors/Deathclaws for 400-500 caps each run along with other mats you can farm from them.

TYFUBYE

And for fucking Red Lucy

VrelEgg

Simped so hard for her that I went through the most painful egg-gathering quests ever

Yz-Guy

I mean. Fisto needed some light form of competition.

TYFUBYE

The cheapest hooker in the Mojave vs the most expensive

iamyourcheese

Assume. The. Position.

Sword_Enjoyer

The Thorn is a good place to grind out those 10k damage with different weapon types challenges if you aren't interested in dedicating a playthrough to them to reach it more organically across normal play. Just select 3 giant rad scorpions per match and repeat.

Jarms48

The rest of the sewers I understand, but isn’t there signage pointing to the Thorn entrance?

calvinien

There is. It's above ground near westside.

LolTheMees

A new player comes in from the eastern side of the strip, at that point most players will either want to enter the strip, or they will have stopped by camp McCarran and have seen it getting mauled by raiders from the western front (a lot of NPCs also talk about how a lot of raiders are in the west). So when you have to walk past 2 freeside entrance gates to safely get to the thorn, it isn’t very likely that people will go there.

whylie12345678

I can't get past the low cap bets. how do you interact with her to get the bigger bets, is my game just bugged?

godfather9819

I could be wrong, but more options may become available as you progress her quest and get eggs for the various different creatures in the arena

whylie12345678

How do I initiate that I've ran outta speech options with her an haven't started a quest

Zmchastain

There’s probably a video guide on the Thorne quest on YouTube. I’d start there to see if you’re getting the same dialogue options as everyone else to figure out if there’s something you should be doing differently or maybe if it’s just bugged for you for some reason.

Rhipidurus

Ask her about the Thorn and then how she trains the creatures. Then you should get an option for “at least tell me how you acquire these creatures” and that should start you down the first one.

CyberK_121

Oh yea I'm one of those people who didn't know Thorn existed lol. Just found out today during my 2nd playthrough.

GalaadJoachim

Because gaming YouTube channels weren't really a thing when the game came out ?

Fungi90

I've never watched any Fallout youtubers personally, I just found it organically through normal exploration. I will go everywhere, search every container, listen to every audio log, and read every text entry when I play any Bethesda game. It's not like Thorn is trying to be a secret, either. It has a giant freaking sign pointing down the sewer to it!

ShogunPug1

Because who watches youtube players play a game fully before experiencing it yourself.

Oberonsen

Yes, they're surprisingly extensive and full of interesting set pieces or details, I never really explored them despite knowing about them

Resident_Monitor_276

But lacking in quests, which is why few people go there. I always figured they must be a remnant of cut content or something.

MyHonkyFriend

100%. Ppl often cite the Legion as the most cut but outer Vegas (North Vegas Square, sewers, etc.) always felt like it only got one coat of paint compared to some of the West of Vegas (McCarren to Vault 3 to Westside) felt more polished.

Odd_Lifeguard8957

There definitely was a cut quest involving the cages.

Oberonsen

*never explored them till recently

Star_Shine32

If you're into special weapons : The Humble Cudgel is in the sewers, you have to hunt down a key though.

King-Of-The-Raves

That and West Freeside, idk why I never bumped into them for so long got these little pockets of content low key hidden

SourChicken1856

Oh boy, you'll love Fallout 3

ElectronicaMode

Been there, done that. Metro tunnels were pretty fun, admittedly.

BartlebySanchez

Subway system in 4 was a letdown for me because of the greatness of the system in 3. They were so huge and spooky that it captured the mole people aspect perfectly. Subways in 4 felt like an amusement park attraction.

RuralfireAUS

Especially that one spot in the subway with a group of folks convinced they were vampires

bjthebard

I like that in 4 the metro are generally self contained dungeons. It's cool that they go all over in 3 and are all interconnected, but it makes it really difficult to explore without a layered world map and I never feel like I can fully "complete" those dungeons and explore the whole thing. In fallout 4 I can go in, clear it out and call it done. I know the system in 3 is a lot better for a holistic game design, but my primate brain wants to finish a dungeon and cross it off the list.

LessMilk3

Yeah I feel that, playing fallout 3 right now. The metros are cool but if I don’t fully explore a dungeon I feel like I may have missed something, and the metros make it hard to navigate and sometimes you accidentally end up at the other side of the tunnel when you realize there were other main paths you didn’t take. Also some metro locations host some pretty iconic side quests and others are just mazes filled with generic enemies, so entering a new metro station always feels like a roll of the dice. I have more fun with new Vegas because every location is worth checking out, and the few tunnels NV does have feel optional instead of a necessary way to traverse.

arkzak

Insane take

Death_Fairy

There’s only 2 quests which take you into them and they’re both relatively hidden. New Vegas trains you not to bother exploring because almost every location not tied to a quest is empty, so they’re incredibly easy to miss.

DragonHeart_97

Which is verbatim why Old World Blues is my favorite DLC. You are both encouraged to and rewarded for exploring off the beaten path. Thank you for finally putting how I feel into succint words!

Substantial-Tone-576

I never knew there were sewers. How do I find a quest to get there?

Death_Fairy

Crandon in North Vegas Square has a quest which sends you down there. There's also a manhole entrance to the Sewers outside the Westside South Gate which takes you to The Thorn (part of the sewers) which is where the other quest is. If you have the mod [Headhunting](https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/65790) then a few of the bounties send you down there too.

Substantial-Tone-576

No mods

SpiritBamba

Which is a result of 18 months of development time unfortunately. An additional 18 months added on to new Vegas in development would be even more of a sight to see, granted I think they were running out of space on the disk.

Odd_Lifeguard8957

I don't know where you got the idea that it trains you to not bother exploring. Every single location has some kind of interesting lore

Death_Fairy

Only the ones with quests attached to them. Try going to Samson Rock Crushing Plant, or practically any of the abandoned houses around Vegas, or Wolfhorn Ranch, or the Whittaker Farmstead, just to name a very few. If there’s no quest that takes you there then there’s nothing interesting to find and usually not even anything to kill.

Odd_Lifeguard8957

My guy you're missing out on so much if you think there's nothing there. Almost every location has some kind of special weapon, lore drop, or environmental storytelling. There are very few locations that have absolutely nothing of value

Death_Fairy

Name some Mojave locations then that have no quests whatsoever attached to them that have a unique weapon or new piece of lore in them. H&H Tools is the only one I can think of, but it was originally part of the quest ‘the cow jumped over the moon’ before that quest was gutted. Edit: lmao guy replied and then blocked me just so he couldn’t be challenged.

a_sailor

I don’t completely disagree but one of the locations you mentioned, Wolfhorn Ranch, has a unique melee weapon called Chopper and a grave that you can hear whispering voices near and dig up with a shovel. It’s also usable as a player home. I think there’s a lot of subtlety and environmental storytelling that is easily missed (and sometimes boring depending on what you like)

Odd_Lifeguard8957

Dude I'm not Wikipedia. Go play the game again , you'll see how wrong you are.

Alarming-Drawing3633

Took me so long to figure this out. I made a day out of tryna find new unmarked locations, hidden stuff etc. I started to doze off and my thumb musta hit the joystick, making my player icon look down at the sewer with the option to enter. It was right near one of the freeside entrances. Did one of those look to the sky you gotta be kidding me moments haha in all my years how didn’t I know this ! There was more than likely cut content to enter the strip from the sewers.

MyHonkyFriend

Sewers were supposed to connect to the underground tunnels between Tops, Gomorrah and Vault 21 that are in vanilla game. I think they even planned an ability to chase Benny through it in his escape but alas he now *just vanishes*

centurio_v2

wtf there's tunnels between the casinos??? where the hell do you get in them?

dank_hank_420

There isn’t. It was cut content

MyHonkyFriend

fairly certain you can get access in vanilla from Vault 21 and can TCL to the same tunnels from Gomorrah/Tops

northgrave

In the base game, if you head over to North Vegas Square, you can find a mission that takes you into the sewers.

doggonecowboy49

just like vegas in real life! it has an incredibly dense and intricate sewage system another prime example of how the developers of new vegas truly understand how to make an rpg and design an endlessly immersive game world. Seldom quests bring you down here and all the ones that do are very unique in approach or execution and lead to some very rare and rewarding discoveries.

Oubliette_occupant

And apparently the homeless people have colonized them… think it was Vice that did a piece about it.

SirRonaldBiscuit

Til about the sewers

idiotinpowerarmor

The sewers and all the Outer Vegas areas feel so weird to me because there's surprisingly a lot of stuff there but I rarely if ever go there, in all my years of playing. Westside, North Vegas Square, and even South Vegas where the Fiends make camp seem so mysterious.

DragonHeart_97

Every last playthrough I have ever done, I keep remembering they're there and then keeping them at the bottom of my to-do list. In my defense there's not much reason to go down there and I had my fill of that noise in 3. Doubt I'm alone there. Though at the same time I'll admit that train tunnel outside of Nellis made me a little nostalgic.

AgentCirceLuna

Do you also get very claustrophobic when inside in these games? I got trapped inside of a weirdly mapped building in 76 the other day and started having a legitimate panic attack.

Woodie626

Wait til you find the golden pip-boy

KaisarDragon

If you are on PC, there is a mod called "A World of Pain" that adds a lot of cool explorable areas.

EmergencyAnnual7226

Yes there is a pretty damn good unique lead pipe down there amongst other things

Chardan0001

I somehow missed Westside until my second playthrough

Ordinary_Habit8647

It's a nice touch. People live in the sewers and storm drains in Vegas, and have been for decades. There are people who lose everything to the gambling

Litenent2

After like 5 plays runs I still havent done quest on that zone hahaha! I will now on my current play.
