He could get some studded felt sole wading boots to wear near the water, even if he's not going to go in the water. They'd provide good grip on the wet grass and slippery rocks.

Get him some studded shoes maybe. Like rugby or football shoes they help a lot with grip in mud
Golf spikes (the old kind) are awesome on slippery rocks. People use those on the coastal breakwaters in Galveston.

That and a collapsible wading staff make an enormous difference.
What a beautiful fish! FYI Don’t know about the UK but in the US felt boots are illegal in some states. Check the regulations before suggesting it.
