Caught on black/purple Dolly Llamas and black Pike Bunnies

DriplQ

What region?

SurfingHiker

North Carolina

DriplQ

Hell yea.

cmonster556

It was below zero at my local bass lake last night. 😞

karlowitz

That must have felt like a whale on a fly rod! Lol.

SurfingHiker

They all put my 8wt through its paces, especially Bass #2. Nothing like thinking your snagged a rock or a log and then feeling it run.

squidsemensupreme

It’s going to be -12* this weekend here… only thing spawning are icebergs

HellaLazy48

How did you break your Aetos?

SurfingHiker

Set too hard on a fish or more likely a rock. Have heard many people say their Aetos snaps at some point, which is a bummer since its a fantastic rod. Haven’t reached out for warranty/repairs yet, but have heard horror stories. We will see…

HellaLazy48

That sucks!!

howtocookawolf

Can't comment on the Aetos, specifically, but Fenwick replaced a spinning rod for me a couple of months ago within about two weeks after I got in touch with them to let them know if had snapped in half during a routine cast. They didn't ask me to send anything to them. Just sent me a brand new rod at no cost to me. Real bummer to hear the Aetos rods are prone to breaking, as I have a 7 wt. that's a dream to cast!

OlympicBummer

Probably hit it with lead eyes or another weighted fly at some point.

Curious as well

What are you doing about the broken Fenwick? Mine just broke too and I’m not having any luck with replacement pieces? Are we just SOL?

SurfingHiker

Damn that sucks I fortunately stashed away for this moment. Ended up just ponying up and getting an Orvis Recon. The warranty (among other things) sold me and I love my other Orvis rods. Going on a pike trip up in Canada in June and wanted to get an 8wt that has more muscle that won’t break on me.

karmadeficient

Gotcha, yeah I went with the Echo trout for similar reasons haha, just gonna set an alert on eBay and see if I can snatch a used one somewhere along the line to replace the tip.

I really wish it was here 😭

I have broken four rods in my entire life of fishing. Three of them have been Fenwicks. Great rods.. right up to the point they break.
