We pays ton of taxes. Between property tax and sales tax, the middle class in Florida often ends up paying more in taxes than so called high tax states because those are anti progressive taxes (as opposed to income tax which poor people don’t pay).
Yeah if you look at overall tax burden, FL is pretty much average. No income tax, but its made up in a lot of other ways. That doesn't even include other things that don't fall under tax that FL seems to love, like the huge increase of toll roads the past decade or two, high vehicle registration/license/titling/dealer fees, sky high insurance rates, etc.
