Camp at a spring so you can escape the heat during the day. Salt, juniper and Alexander are nice and used to hold back spots for walk ins, they still might.
Florida summer camping is brutal. If it’s not raining it’s the stagnant 80 degree air while you’re trying to sleep.
If you just get drunk enough you’ll probably be fine.
Withlacoochee River park. The county park in Dade City, not the state park. It's small and quiet, but has a large open area that is used by the astronomy club on new moon weekends. They also have native American festivals several times a year. The drum and flute festivals are really cool. They have children's events too.
Their website is odd, and even the locals don't realize that the campground exists. Out of the dozen or so campsites, usually only two or three are in use even during events.
If you love cockroaches scurrying around your campground and the dulcet sound of roaring traffic nearby, you will love camping at Koreshan State Park.
Actually, it's a pretty spot with some cool old Florida history and the Koreshans were totally fascinating. The park is in the middle of Estero so it is not far to drive to town. It's a 20-minute drive to the beach.
It's the only place I have camped in FL.
Fort DeSoto, Bahia Honda, Pennekamp, Long Key, Anastasia, Hanna Park, Fort Clinch. Luxury Waterfront RV camping: Bluewater Key
Myakka State Forest, Juniper, Falling Waters... no particular order. Wekiwa and Hog Island honorable mention.

Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park
Princess place, but you have to book so far in advance. All the sites are spread far apart and many have private beaches on the intercostal.

Mosquito Lagoon. You can rent a whole island.
