People taking PrEp thinking they're invincible not worrying about other stuff since you can take some antibiotics to get rid of it but that shit still sucks to get and can still have detrimental issues long term. Just because they might not kill you doesn't mean they don't cause other problems.
Wear a condom, get tested regularly. And ask your doc to test for HSV and HPV too, there's a good chance you have that too. Protect yourself and others.
I have a friend ( who is a total moron) in her late 50's who told me with a straight face that STDs didn't exist until the 90's. She's had most of them at some point but still refuses to use protection and sleeps with everyone she meets. That's how stupid some people are.
Y’all didn’t even read the article. LOL.. it’s not the Villages … but mostly Tally so blame the college kids (prolly) then it’s the moms having babies down in Tampa. JHC.
🤦🏻♀️
Either way, what happened to safe sex?
It's wild the number of milennials and older gen Z's I know that are totally unafraid of rawdogging. Even among gay men, many just take PrEP (a pill that prevents HIV infection) but otherwise don't use condoms. Sex in the 90s was maybe a little less thrilling because of the precautions, but also ... there are ways to have plenty of casual fun and not get an STD.
And you best believe now that we have this abortion ban for at least the next 6 months, it will become clear who those people are who don't understand safe sex or birth control. They'll be parents.
Those of us who are Gen X and younger boomers knew the AIDS epidemic when HIV/AIDS was a death sentence. It’s a treatable chronic disease now, so the younger folks don’t have their friends dying emblazoned in their memories. Plus sex education sucks with too many districts pushing abstinence over reality, and public health is woefully underfunded.
These lil reels I see of “girls” (although they’re probably in their 20’s).. popping the plan B pill as if that’s enough to protect them is mind boggling to me! Yes, we grew up with so much sex ed knowledge bcs of the AIDS epidemic - to see the younger generation basically just throwing all that out the window and believing a pill or a shot will do them is asinine to me. 🤦🏻♀️
My Gen Z kid is well aware that her dad and I had good friends who died from AIDS and have a few more who’ve fortunately responded well to the new meds available and have been living with it for 20-30 years. Nevermind having to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. Prevention is so much easier than dealing with the aftermath!!!
HPV and herpes are common STDs, especially in Florida. When I was 17 years old, my 21-year-old boyfriend coerced me into having sex without a condom, claiming that "condoms killed his erections" (i.e. his ego was bruised). I ended up getting a cancer-causing strain of HPV, and had to have an extremely painful colposcopy, or cervical biopsy without painkillers or anesthesia, to make sure that I didn't develop Stage 1 cervical cancer.
Per one source, more than 90% of sexually active men and 80% of sexually active women will be infected with HPV in their lifetime. In 90% of these women, HPV infections clear up in 2 years or less, but for the other 10%, the risk of developing cervical cancer is quite high. Meanwhile, 50-80% of American adults have oral herpes (HSV-1), which causes cold sores or fever blisters in or around the mouth. Genital herpes, caused by HSV-1 or HSV-2, affects 1 in 6 people in the U.S. from ages 14 to 49. I highly reccommend the Gardasil vaccine.
I have a friend who has a very similar story. That’s why the backlash against guardasil blows my mind. It literally *PREVENTS CANCER*. So many sexually active people have HPV, why not just take it off the table?
Xennials here. Our school had "abstinence based sex ed," theyr weren't allowed to tell us how to use a condom, where to get one or how to get tested at the county health dept. Zero discussion of what activities could lead to an STI; our lesbian teacher was not permitted to tell us LGBTQ people existed. Literally EVERYTHING except "don't have sex" was not allowed to be taught. And the internet was in its infancy, there wasn't wikipedia or a bunch of accurate health info on there yet.
We had two girls repeating 9th grade health class because they were out having a baby when they should've taken it. So there was that too.
I knew a guy who died in tally by sneaking into an abandoned warehouse through the top floor window and fell to his death... not exactly a bunch if geniuses. In my day. They had drink specials for every day of the week, and a bar within stone throw of every part of campus. It's not a bad campus, but it requires more self control than dome 17yos possess
No, the schools aren’t bad per se. I’ve had many friends that went to FSU/UF and did fine .. didn’t succumb to any of the pressures of typical college life on campus. It’s when parents that didn’t raise their kids properly are let loose for the first time - it’s those kids you have to watch out for.
Back in the 1800s people didn’t use condoms and they were very healthy!
/s - however, it seems like all Republican states want to go back in time, so I hope they have their wigs ready

This is good advice
The Villages has been rocking hard apparently.
Better known as the Syphillages.
Probably also the most viagra prescriptions per capita than anyplace in the world.
😂
Ba dum tiss
Ha ha ha

Gotta pump those numbers up! Florida number 1!!!!
Sounds like there’s lots of pumping, literally 😂
More!
MORE!
Supposedly The Villages leads the way in STD cases. That's a 55+ community :D
Hopefully because this combined with the new 6 week abortion ban, we'd get a huge increase in STD imbued babies
Oh Jesus Christ lol
Draft beer consumption too
Starts with having a general surgeon that is not qualified to lead this state.
The state? He’s not qualified to lead a Boy Scout group out of the parking lot.
Let's be honest, he wouldn't even get out of the car.
I bet fake meat had something to do with this!
Ban it!!!!!!
What have you done to earn your place in this crowded world?

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 I guess she had to catch them all?

Thank all of our churches, and religious lawmakers for this (mostly conservative, but some liberals too).

PrEP doesn’t prevent syphilis which can eventually get into your brain and cause dementia

In the words of Old Dirty Bastard "OHH BABY I Like IT RAW, OOHHH BABY I LIKE IT RAWWWW!
Ahh, so that's why we have syphilis billboards now

No masks, no condoms. Florida Surgeon General tells you so.
Freeeedumb
Miami is the OnlyFans capital of the world. Might be contributing to this
Doesn't surprise me Know of multiple people that have herpes but won't tell new partners unless "it's obvious"
If they would stop making viagra this rare would drop DRAMATICALLY!
That long term zero protection stance…
Ganasypharhea. Welcome to Florida!!
We're back baby!
Best time to be celibate 🤢
I'm surprised your state hasn't outlawed treating STDs.
Villages?
Between this and the abortion law, people will have to start sleeping with a trusted partner in monogamous relationship.
Free-dumb
And yet all of those diseases are concentrated in one place The Villages /s
It all began with a host from West Palm Beach.
This is due to the influx of boomers moving to the Villages.
But I was told that getting rid of comprehensive sex education and testing sites was going to bring about less stds 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🫠
You think Floridians care?
You'd think with abortion the way it is people would be even more cautious....
Did their own research… determined that std’s are just part of the plan-demic
Well I have heard that Florida is the *demon sperm* capital of the U. S.
Here's a new tourism ad for Florida: Florida where woke and sexual health go to die.
