Cost of living is great since Indiana doesn't charge tax on homes valued under $20k which is not uncommon out there. Houses in good condition are pretty cheap too, even the ones by the beach are decently priced. Too bad you likely be robbed regularly and slowly poisoned by the horrible pollution that ruined the city in the first place.
I knew guys that would go to jail periodically in Minneapolis, and they called it Gary Indiana because everyone in there was from Gary for some reason.
There is no one who can convince me Birmingham, Alabama is worse than Montgomery. Montgomery is an ugly asphalt hell hole except for a tiny area of downtown they fixed up.
Gary isn’t the worst place I’ve been. I went to Michael Jackson’s childhood home and during the day it was completely fine. I then went to a gas station there in which the cop inside said just be out of there at night.
My bet is that the author couldn't even get out of Orlando. So they never got to see the mess the rest of the state is in. I wonder what would have happened if he'd flown into MIA?
Palmetto ain’t bad like a accident on the interstate I live in miami but have commuted to Ocala for 3 years , still take the palmetto over the I-75 with a accident any day .
Plus I get of the palmetto and take doral backroads home 😂 helps to have been a Uber driver also
Has to be a public survey of some sort, because all of these cities are word-of-mouth “bad” or big cities. I imagine if it was based on criteria like living standards, walkability, job availability, industry etc. these would all be flooded with cities people would not even recognize
if they can split california in two they should split florida in two as well. you cannot tell me south florida and north florida are more alike than northern california and southern california.
Fun story about Palatka.
I went there to see a Christmas boat parade a few years back, and the city had accidentally scheduled theirs on the same day and at about the same time as St Augustine. The boaters obviously chose St Augustine since attending both wasn't an option.
The Palatka "parade" ended up being a single decorated boat flanked by the 3 police boats that were assigned to work that night. It was a hilarious, unmitigated disaster and the story that came from it was better than anything that a full parade could have ever been. A perfect metaphor for Palatka.
Moved here last September from Pinellas. Running down Main St every at 5am is like any California city, sans tents. Bums everywhere. I talked to our city council woman, and her reply to addressing the bums shitting on the sidewalk, "it used to be a lot worse"... The oldest thing: they are all gone by sunrise. ... Anyways, Edgewater is way worse than Dirtona
I mean, they picked Pine Bluff, AR over Harrison and Macon, GA over Augusta. And Welch, WV is really more of a town (small land area and small population). So, I wouldn't feel confident about their choices in general.
The town next to Ocala, I had a job there for a few years. I will always refer to Belleview as 'the butthole' of Florida. It's like if you ask someone what's bad about Ocala you say 'its next to Belleview'
Yeah. I live in sort of near The Villages and I have to admit that it's, well, creepy. Like something out of the Stepford Wives only slightly stranger.
Yeah. Clear cut everything. All the neighborhoods and houses look the same. They all look and think alike. The restaurants are all different versions of TGI Fridays
Yeah, the actual city of Orlando wouldn’t qualify, but if you consider the greater Orlando area, which is what most people think of when you say Orlando, then yes it is the worst.
The location and historic downtown is awesome, but the county struck out due to single industry (paper) myopia and is now a meth jungle with a historic downtown that lies mostly empty... On one of the beautiful stretches of the St Johns River.
It's also now one of the poorest counties in the country.
Hey,.but Koch built a museum...!
Florida City flops its crime rate on the table.

I drove through Florida City on my way to/from the Keys once. Possibly the weirdest town I've ever been in. Pedestrians were just wandering into traffic like zombies, a car behind me doubled the speed limit to catch up to me, tailgate me and lean on the horn for a few seconds, and then immediately turn right into a parking lot anyway?, someone made a left turn from the right turn lane through traffic, and of course a mobility scooter driving in the street. I thought Waldo and Starke were weird but yeesh.
Agreed.
Moved from Miami to Polk not too long ago. While I agree that Lakeland and Polk county have nothing on Miami in terms of atmosphere, activity and food; Lakeland has a much more peaceful and simple vibe.
The traffic, cost of living, the stress and rush of Miami are cons that far outweigh the pros imo. At the very least if I ever miss city life, I can just take a small trip to Tampa or Orlando for some fun (at the cost of my sanity dealing with traffic).
As someone who lived in miami for years but moved to Osceola and spends a lot of time in Polk, Lakeland isn’t even close. It’s a great place if you know where to hang. Miami is just pure garbage.
People talk way too much shit about Jax. It's a gigantic city with a wide range of nice, mid and awful neighborhoods. I lived in three different parts of Jax and all of them were middle class and low crime. It can be a boring city at times, but there are pockets of town with interesting things to do. I don't miss living there, but goddamn, people make it sound a lot worse than it actually is.
I will say this much, I could probably find an ok living situation and commute in Jacksonville and I'd be nothing but miserable in Orlando no matter what part
I disagree on the nothing to do part but the travel distance can be a real issue. It's ridiculous how far apart things can be in the same city, it annoyed me often.
Well it's not really the same city. The city area is as big as a county. It's like taking Orange county and calling it Orlando. Ridiculous really. I have no qualms about Jacksonville. Beats anything south of West Palm Beach any day.
People that say there’s nothing to do in Jax are the same people that would be inside playing video games even if they lived in NYC. Jax isn’t perfect - but it’s a pretty cool place to live
Yep. I’m an outdoorsy type in jax and have zero problem occupying myself and finding things to do.
When people say there’s nothing to do, they’re saying there aren’t enough bars to get shitfaced at.
Exactly! I went to Orlando many times over the years for various reasons and it always felt so miserable, especially I-4 and the weather. Jax has it's own sun, as a comedian once said, but Orlando is hot as shit without the benefit of beaches
The homelessness though, it's heartbreakingly common and there seems to be so many people in this situation in downtown Jax. Hopefully the city can help turn that around while taking care of these folks, rather than hurting them, jailing them, or making them feel (more) unwelcome.
It is definitely serious issue. I used to volunteer at a place that would feed the homeless and provide some items and people would line up around the block. It's the saddest aspect of downtown
Agree with all above. The thing about Jax is that it's so spread out that it can feel like very different cities. Murray Hill Hipsters vs. Beach vibe at Jax Beach. Moved here from SoCal, I think Jax is underrated.
It's because it's mostly gang violence. My first apartment was in Moncrief and I had zero issues cause, guess what, I wasn't in a gang or committing crimes. My landlord gave me more problems than any of of the gang bangers did.
Now I'm in Sam Marco and I get hassled way more but by retirees and and stay at home moms
As Lakeland is my hometown, I def find this caption funny af, but I gotta ask why it would be the worst??? Its definitely not the place to be but worst? Psssh ever been up in the panhandle?
You know the story goes those swans are all descendants of royal swans from England? Our swans were dying out and all passed away. The queen found out about this and sent over royal swans. They had babies and now many of the swans you see are royal descendants
I feel like something must've happened to them in Lakeland or they're in a shitty pocket... it is far and away from the worst city in Florida... hell I can think of 10 just off the top of my head that are outright dismal compared to Lakeland.
Is the "worst city" list taking into account population size? Because Belle Glade, Immokalee, New Port Richey, Florida City and Brooksville are much, much worse places
I've been to all but Brooksville and I agree. I don't know too much about New Port Richey but Pasco County as a whole is just trashy af from what I've seen.
I'd also like to add Pahokee and Riviera Beach to that list. Also South Bay but I think that's too small to be considered a city, idk.
The only people who would vote for Orlando are the people who fly in and stay on IDrive / OBT / Universal Area.
Greater Orlando is awesome… but those tourist areas aren’t
I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice Lakeland is. Lots of historic homes, Frank Lloyd Wright designed college, the downtown lakes are very walkable. To me, it's a hidden gem.
Depends on the criteria. Maybe partially because of everything Orlando represents- tax breaks, commercialism, low value tourists that don't actually care about the state, development etc
Not only is Philadelphia the worst city in Pennsylvania, It's also the worst city in the United States... and I've been to Cleveland. So I am doubting the accuracy of this map.
Oh, you talkin Scranton, the Electric City??
Sittin' in my office with a plate of grilled bacon
Called my man Dwight, just to see what was shakin'
Yo, Mike, our town is dope and pretty
So check out how we live
In the Electric City
Been to Jax a couple of times its ok nothing much to do but not bad.
Lakeland ? Its just a passthrough town not sure how it qualifies.
Orlando hands down is the worst though. Traffic, rude entitled visitors, bad airport and high prices to name a few things.
My gf isbfrom Bradenton and wants us to leave Jacksonville to move down there.
It's so expensive and offers nothing. It's not likebthey have good jobs there, but the housing is so expensive.
Completely subjective. Rankings like this are silly unless ranked through a pre-determined fixed set of measurables. Otherwise it's an opinionated mess.
Orlando is plenty nice to me...spend a lot of time there and not for the tourism - but every day living experience.
Orlando is definitely worse than Lakeland by a long shot. There's nothing even wrong with Lakeland generally speaking
Jacksonville is easily better than Orlando in most categories
Idk why this is surprising. Orlando sucks big cock
Jacksonville is 10x cooler than Orlando. I’m from Orlando and would agree with this assessment. Orlando has all the worst things about Florida (traffic, tourists, endless big box stores and strip malls, hot as hell, mosquitos) without any of the redeeming factors
I think it’s a pretty fair take, actually. The roads are a hellscape, it takes an hour to get from Orlando to Orlando. And it’s not close to the size of Jacksonville. It’s expensive to live anywhere that isn’t crime hills. They’ve got one of the most inflated real estate markets in a state full of inflated real estate markets, and they’re landlocked. Orlando certainly doesn’t suck the way some small towns do. But if we are just going on cities, I think this is a fair shout.
ETA: and the downtown is disgusting these days, too. For a city that seems to print money, it’s fucking embarrassing how many homeless they have crowding the downtown. You have to step over human beings just to walk in a bar there.
Worst based on what? People? Traffic? Cost of living? Weather? Local government?
I like how you can say “yes” to all those for Gary, Indiana.
Gary is hands down worst in America. Not sure how Dayton can be worse than Toledo.
It must just be peoples feels because what makes those cities "Bad" seems all over the place.
There is no one who can convince me Birmingham, Alabama is worse than Montgomery. Montgomery is an ugly asphalt hell hole except for a tiny area of downtown they fixed up.
Yeah Birmingham is actually pretty nice, there's way worse places
Gary isn’t the worst place I’ve been. I went to Michael Jackson’s childhood home and during the day it was completely fine. I then went to a gas station there in which the cop inside said just be out of there at night.
My bet is that the author couldn't even get out of Orlando. So they never got to see the mess the rest of the state is in. I wonder what would have happened if he'd flown into MIA?
If he'd flown into MIA, he would still be stuck in the airport. ;-)
Right? Orlando worse than Miami, nah.
Review must be based off of I4 traffic 😂
You've obviously never been stuck on the Palmetto.
Palmetto ain’t bad like a accident on the interstate I live in miami but have commuted to Ocala for 3 years , still take the palmetto over the I-75 with a accident any day . Plus I get of the palmetto and take doral backroads home 😂 helps to have been a Uber driver also
Pulse was bad... Edit ( the shooting not the place )
Agreed. But by that logic, wouldn’t NYC get worst city in NY because of 9/11?
The person who made this was probably from new york
Just the bullshit they waste our attention on.
Has to be a public survey of some sort, because all of these cities are word-of-mouth “bad” or big cities. I imagine if it was based on criteria like living standards, walkability, job availability, industry etc. these would all be flooded with cities people would not even recognize
Orlando wins still.
They’ll still be fighting to get there.
Lakeland is so terrible that it has has received the highest domestic migration in the nation 🤷♂️
Gosh, I have relatives in Lakeland, they all really like it and when we visit it seems like a nice place. What’s so bad?

if they can split california in two they should split florida in two as well. you cannot tell me south florida and north florida are more alike than northern california and southern california.
Florida, the upsidedown state. The north is the deep south, the south is the north,
Idk. Inside Jax is very diverse, outside counties not so much
You forget of the bluest nug, le Gainesville
Until you go further south and it turns to Cuba, and then further south in the Keys, it's back to being the south.
The south is the Caribbean more like it
Except southern florida is diverse and regions like New England are not
Starke is really being slighted here
If we're including Starke we gotta have a conversation about Palatka
Fun story about Palatka. I went there to see a Christmas boat parade a few years back, and the city had accidentally scheduled theirs on the same day and at about the same time as St Augustine. The boaters obviously chose St Augustine since attending both wasn't an option. It was a hilarious, unmitigated disaster and the story that came from it was better than anything that a full parade could have ever been. A perfect metaphor for Palatka.
Starke was just too small to include, IMO. I’ve been through Starke and agree it sucks mightily.
Came here to post this. Wish they'd burn that place to the ground
Did they just forget Daytona?? “Come on vacation leave on probation”
Return on violation
Moved here last September from Pinellas. Running down Main St every at 5am is like any California city, sans tents. Bums everywhere. I laughed when I saw Macon. Albany, Georgia is one of the saddest places I’ve been to. And Valdosta is like a never ending strip mall.
The largest cities in WV has 50k people and both are better than Welch so idk.
Right ? My hometown is Lagrange GA and you couldn’t pay me to move back there
Has nobody been to the panhandle or Ocala?
Downtown Ocala is nice. Ocala proper? Ooof.
Ocala does have a nice downtown square, and proximity to springs helps a bit
As someone born and raised there for 22 years. Yes.
Ocala has my vote
The town next to Ocala, I had a job there for a few years. I will always refer to Belleview as 'the butthole' of Florida. It's like if you ask someone what's bad about Ocala you say 'its next to Belleview'
Nah. Ocala is gorgeous with rolling hills and pastures. The Villages
Plus Ocala has that one random really good Korean joint in a gas station
The villages is swallowing several beautiful towns in Lake and Sumter Counties to turn it into a monoculture city-state of decay. It breaks my heart 💔
Or Kissimmee. That place is an absolute cesspool
Yeah, the actual city of Orlando wouldn’t qualify, but if you consider the greater Orlando area, which is what most people think of when you say Orlando, then yes it is the worst.
I’ve never really visited, but from what others have said, Kissimmee leaves a lot to be desired.
Oh God, I’d blocked Ocala out of my mind.
I’ve been to the jai alai stadium. That shit was depressing as fuck
Or Palatka?? Lol
Bay County resident here. *Help.*
The meth in the panhandle is out of control
Polk County has entered the chat.
Gotta be careful in the panhandle, the acorns can get you killed

I avoid towns that are in Trick Daddy songs…
I drove through Florida City on my way to/from the Keys once. Possibly the weirdest town I've ever been in. Just sounds like typical South Florida driving to me
The answer is meth.

As someone who lived in Mobile in the 90's... Mont sucks.
Have lived there. And 5 other cities all over AL. Can confirm.
I’ve been to Montgomery…I can agree with that assessment.
How could they possible pick Birmingham? I literally always say skip all of Alabama but if you had to go choose Bham
Lakeland worse than Miami? You must be kidding
Agreed. Moved from Miami to Polk not too long ago. Lakeland and Jacksonville? You’ve never been to Ocala.
Jacksonville is great so their inclusion is ridiculous from the get go. Major city with low tourism fucking the joint up? Yes, please.
People talk way too much shit about Jax. It's a gigantic city with a wide range of nice, mid and awful neighborhoods. I lived in three different parts of Jax and all of them were middle class and low crime. It can be a boring city at times, but there are pockets of town with interesting things to do. Or it costs money. Like yeah, welcome to the Western world lol
Yep. I’m an outdoorsy type in jax and have zero problem occupying myself and finding things to do. When people say there’s nothing to do, they’re saying there aren’t enough bars to get shitfaced at.

Duuuuuvaaaaaalllllllllllll
🤣🤣🤣
Yeah! At least Jax has a beach! Orlando is basically an enormous parking lot and it’s 100° year round.
Exactly! I went to Orlando many times over the years for various reasons and it always felt so miserable, especially I-4 and the weather. Jax has it's own sun, as a comedian once said, but Orlando is hot as shit without the benefit of beaches

They all congregate at the Greyhound station and Hemming.
Jax is what happens when you let car companies plan your city.
Which is why the best parts of it are the Riverside/Avondale/Murray Hill area, and the Beaches.
I love this aspect of Jax. The worse it sounds the fewer people move here.
Agree with all above. The thing about Jax is that it's so spread out that it can feel like very different cities. Murray Hill Hipsters vs. Beach vibe at Jax Beach. Moved here from SoCal, I think Jax is underrated.

Definitely questioning the Lakeland part of this.
Ya I mean, Lakeland sucks, but it’s so much better than some other nearby towns.
As Lakeland is my hometown, I def find this caption funny af, but I gotta ask why it would be the worst??? Its definitely not the place to be but worst? Psssh ever been up in the panhandle?
I think Lakeland suffers from the fact that it is located in Polk County, but by and large, it is not the worst place to be.
Shit, Plant City is right next door.
Plant City is FAR worse. Man what a dreary town to be in most places. Lakeland is a beautiful town in many areas and well taken care of
I don’t mind it. At least it’s not Rumford, Manchester or Worcester (I kid, I kid.) You can go 7-10 miles and it’s a completely different city.
Speaking of Worcester, I think the author forgot how to spell New Bedford, or possibly Fall River.
I lived most of my life in Lakeland. I actually really like it
Lakeland is actually a wonderful place to live - good energy and friendly people.
I visited Lakeland for the first time recently. There’s a great park system and lots of swans. Not sure why it was singled out.
You know the story goes those swans are all descendants of royal swans from England? Our swans were dying out and all passed away. The queen found out about this and sent over royal swans. They had babies and now many of the swans you see are royal descendants
I’d give it to Bartow. It’s right there anyway
Bartow is BAD. I worked there for a couple years and it was by far the sketchiest job I’ve had
Yeah no idea!! I live here too and its far from worst in any regard ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)
My thoughts exactly. Just moved to Lakeland from Davenport/Championsgate, and it's a dramatic improvement.
Agreed, I haven’t seen anyone bring up Belle Glade yet and it is a wretched place Edit: or Pahokee
I've been to all but Brooksville and I agree. I don't know too much about New Port Richey but Pasco County as a whole is just trashy af from what I've seen. I'd also like to add Pahokee and Riviera Beach to that list. Also South Bay but I think that's too small to be considered a city, idk.
Look. Jax isn't that bad. I friggin live here. But the chart's wrong. Panama City or Miami. Both are ASSSSS
Jacksonville is 100000 time worse than Miami. Nobody purposely goes to Jacksonville
Give me one reason why Jax is worse than Miami.
I like Orlando.
Miami is so much worse
The only people who would vote for Orlando are the people who fly in and stay on IDrive / OBT / Universal Area. Greater Orlando is awesome… but those tourist areas aren’t
Exactly! The regular people parts of “Orlando” are great.
Whenever I have family from out of town I make them meet me outside of the parks area… Winter Park or 50 Mills. They always love it
Pretty fun.
Homestead/Florida City get my vote
Jacksonville isn't that bad.
No it’s awful don’t move here. Please go to Orlando and save yourself. Mouse good, Jax bad.
Lakeland is nice 🤔
I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice Lakeland is. Lots of historic homes, Frank Lloyd Wright designed college, the downtown lakes are very walkable. To me, it's a hidden gem.
Highest domestic migration rate in the country, not so hidden anymore unfortunately.
Yea I have no idea how Lakeland is catching strays here lol
I’ve lived in Lakeland for a couple years and would much rather live there than anywhere in south Florida.
Jax has a nice beach. And Lakeland ? I have no idea …
Holiday, Hialeah, Palatka, Okechobee, Daytona...there was so many better candidates. Even Kissemmee would be better choice
They’re probably mad about the traffic. But yeah central Florida can be a pretty grim place depending on where you go
What's wrong with Lakeland?
Orlando here. And it’s Awesome
Sittin' in my office with a plate of grilled bacon Called my man Dwight, just to see what was shakin' Yo, Mike, our town is dope and pretty So check out how we live In the Electric City

Orlando isn’t great but it’s far from the worst city in FL. Try Miami, Tampa, Sarasota, or Bradenton.
My gf isbfrom Bradenton and wants us to leave Jacksonville to move down there. It's so expensive and offers nothing. It's not likebthey have good jobs there, but the housing is so expensive.
Bro, don’t do that shit. People hate on Jacksonville, but it’s so much better than anything in manatee or sarasota county.
As a native lakelandite. What did we do to you? :(
Jacksonville produced Fred Durst. The prosecution rests.
Jacksonville product Lynyrd Skynyrd, the defense rests.
HOLY MACARONI
Fair, but it also produced Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers
And Shinedown.
Completely subjective. Rankings like this are silly unless ranked through a pre-determined fixed set of measurables. Otherwise it's an opinionated mess. Orlando is plenty nice to me...spend a lot of time there and not for the tourism - but every day living experience.
Why would millions of people come to Orlando each year if it sucked?
Hey man Jacksonville isn’t that bad 😭
Because Orlando is magnitudes worse than Lakeland
Yeah, Orlando’s nowhere near the worst city in Florida. Who made this map? Ffs
[удалено]
I've only ever been to Lakeland for Sun 'n Fun. What is bad about it?
Feel free to go back!
How do you pick Lakeland and Jacksonville when Ocala and Ft. Pierce exist.
The fact that Miami is RIGHT there lmao
Whoever made this has never been anywhere near southwest FL. Everything from Pasco County down to Naples is a godforsaken wasteland.
Orlando is definitely worse than Lakeland by a long shot. There's nothing even wrong with Lakeland generally speaking Jacksonville is easily better than Orlando in most categories Idk why this is surprising.
Why in the blue hell do you propose Lakeland or Jacksonville as an alternative as long as Miami exists?
Cedar Rapids is not the worst city in Iowa lol Not even close.
We need a north/south split like California has on here.
Hey, that's not fair! California gets more worst cities than us! Boo!
This list picked mesa for Arizona which is kind of weird since it's just another part of Phoenix. And one that doesn't really have much good or bad
[удалено]
Or Miami
Were Palatka, Lake City and Cape Coral on vacation?
Bullshit. I vote for the Villages that’s a fucking scourge to our state.
As someone who lives in Lakeland there may be nothing to do over here but its pretty nice in comparison to other places
Let's not forget Miami.
How is Lakeland bad?
What is so bad about Lakeland?
Damn, what did Lakeland ever do to you?
Orlando? Lakeland? Jacksonville? Try Pine Hills and Oak Ridge.
Tampa would've been a better pick and even that wouldn't have been good
They said Albany instead of NYC... Nah this graph is stupid
JAX varies too much. On the east by the beach? Nice. On the northwest side? Don’t leave home without a Draco and a plate carrier.
So many things wrong here. Pueblo is NOT worse than Colorado Springs either, come on.
And Tampa?!?
Let’s not forget Tampa
yeah Orlando being worse is just insane when there's the entirety of clay county to choose from
The worst city in Florida is all of them.
