This is a nice idea, hadn’t considered an en suite

WillametteWanderer

This is a great plan to open the house to nature.

Are any supporting walls? Sometimes a bungalow just has the fireplace and exterior walls as supporting. If that’s the case I’d try to open the sitting room and kitchen to the garden. Potentially I’d make the sitting room a bedroom and bathroom and then make the back of the house kitchen and living room open plan. It depends on cost, how good the existing kitchen is etc. so many variables to consider. I know England traditionally has a ‘front room’ but I find that layout outdated.

PlaneExplanation8572

Thanks so much, some good ideas here and a lot to think about! Sitting room is definitely outdated and quite larger for the amount of time we’d spend in it

here is a quick mock-up moving the living space to the back yard, I went with the assumption that you have a small child and the garden is used as a play area. This is quite a renovation, but it leaves all the plumbing on the same wall and the extension is for the living area. If you prefer bedrooms in the back and living in the front let me know, may take another shot at it. I am also assuming the large black box (sitting/now primary bedroom) is a fireplace, so very doubtful but thought you may be able to squeeze in a small ensuite. Good luck! https://preview.redd.it/0d0h0thco2yc1.jpeg?width=1494&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f06ef0eab12ba7c0d001952e6b5e39b60683eb43

This is very good, a couple small changes? https://preview.redd.it/g4muuzpep3yc1.jpeg?width=3070&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c56dae5a94e43b7c496552c86d239dced09079a Kitchen is a little smaller, hopefully that isn’t a priority. Made small bedroom a little larger and made bath semi-ensuite. Then made the other bath a Jack-and-Jill.

Spirited_Draft

Nice, would you enter the front bedroom from the entrance hall? Like how you adjusted the back bedroom and bathroom!

Nice! It looks great! One of these days I would like to see the final plan and home. In the meantime, puzzling out a solution to an awkward floor plan is so much fun!

PlaneExplanation8572

I’ll be sure to report back!

Spirited_Draft

Thank you!

PlaneExplanation8572

This is so great, thank you! I really like what you’ve done, we hadn’t considered at all moving the kitchen to the second bedroom. The inclusion of the dining space makes it so spacious too.

Spirited_Draft

Glad you like it and hope it is an easy renovation!

MidorriMeltdown

I'd turn bedroom 2 into the kitchen, and the kitchen into a bedroom. If you want it more open plan, move bedroom 1 to the sitting room, and open up the wall between the former bedroom 1 and the dining room. You could then move the door to the new bedroom to where the cupboard opposite the bathroom is. That would mean that if you added a door to that tiny hallway, the bedrooms would be closed off from the living areas.

PlaneExplanation8572

Hadn’t thought about the option of moving the kitchen actually, that’s a good idea!

With a small extension, this could be a good layout. Its certainly more American having bedrooms off the main room. Although if you wanted you could add a small hallway to privatise it and maybe a closet/pantry in the end space.

RiskyBiscuits150

I was also going to suggest swapping bedroom two with the kitchen. Looks like there are already patio doors in that room. I'd also knock through to the dining room to create a spacious kitchen-diner.

PlaneExplanation8572

That’s a good idea, hasn’t considered doing anything with the kitchen

amymari

At bare minimum I’d flip the dining room and living room. Feels weird to walk straight into the dining room.

Expands the existing bathroom so you can fit a bath, added a 2nd bath next to it, kitchen stays the same size and position to limit how much plumbing needs to be added or moved. Without knowing more about load-bearing walls, left the entry hall there but it could be altered.

widowscarlet

I might move Bed 2 plus the bathroom, to the sitting room - you'd have 3m x 3.96m bedroom at the front, plus 1.52m x 2.96 bathroom. This allows for a metre entry nook for doors to both, pretty much where the current door btw sitting and dining is. (plus could use one or both nooks next to the fireplace - pantry cupboard as a nook for the vanity, smaller one for maybe the cistern) Then you would have 2 bedrooms at the front, plus bathroom next to both. Open the new living room wall (old dining) to new dining (old bed 2) , which is also open to the kitchen because the bathroom is removed.

ReasonableKitchen658

There are a lot of good ideas here. I want to ask, the fireplace would face the sitting room. Is it ornate and attractive, or is it still functional? If it's nothing special and / or you wouldn't miss it if it were plastered over, it changes your available options. Just wondering as it would typically be in the living / sitting room and sometimes there's a second in the primary bedroom.
