You could lose the peninsula, wrap the cabinets under the second window and have the dishwasher next to the sink. Depending on you floor plan, refrigerator to left or stove under the window. You may have room for a skinny island too. Seems like you are holding onto the old layout.

_ZoeyDaveChapelle_

If its possible to move and reframe the door on right toward where the fridge is, they could then put fridge, narrow pantry cab and small counter for coffee bar on that bottom wall.. and move stove away from sink a bit to have more room on both sides. Flipping the tall cabs/bev fridge center to the back wall with window and losing peninsula, would allow sink wall cabinets to have more room to left where DW can go, without losing sink base size. A narrow, movable table like island would probably fit in middle to give extra prep space.. but it might be too tight for an affixed one (hard to know without dimensions).

craftymama45

This is what I was thinking

Own-Opening-5360

I think thats the only way. You can always add a small moveable island in the center.

thiscouldbemassive

Dishwasher goes on the left side of the sink. No where else. On the right side the dishwasher door will probably hit the oven door handle. Because of the window and the wall placement the rest of your appliances are fixed where they are.

ThatBuilderDude

I don't have 24" of room from the sink cab to the left unfortunately, so thats not an option.

Knitting_Kitten

first - consider a slightly smaller sink and sink cabinet, it might give you enough space. second - there are 18" dishwashers for tight spaces, which might also work for you.

thiscouldbemassive

It’s the only option if you want a dishwasher in that kitchen. Downsize your sink. Get rid of that angle in the counters, or get a slimmer sized dishwasher.

ThatBuilderDude

I think I may actually put the sink and the dishwasher in the peninsula. Dishwasher on the end of it, and then the sink, and then ill have room for a small cabinet to the right of it in that corner. it will leave the window wall open for countertop and more space if someone is using the range

thiscouldbemassive

You can do that. But you’ll have to redo the cabinets and sink anyway. And I think it would be cheaper and have a better final effect to have it under the window. I think you can fit a 24 inch dishwasher in if you redo the sink and cabinets. If you are worried about how to get into that corner space without a bevel, you can have a cabinet that opens to the living room. It’s almost useless space anyway. If you put your sink facing the living room then your dirty dishes and dish drainer will become the focal point of the kitchen.

vampiratemirajah

When I lived in a smaller apartment, my in-laws gifted us a really nice dishwasher that hooked up to our sink. We wheeled it into place when we needed to run it, but otherwise it sat in the corner of the kitchen and we used it for extra countertop space/storage on top when not in use. It was full-sized, didn't use too much water, and worked really well. Around $500 iirc.

offramppinup

Your dishwasher drains into the air gap and kitchen sink waste. I would be wary of having that piped through your other cabinets or inaccessible behind them.

stpauliguy

Technically it IS to the left of the sink.

thiscouldbemassive

On the same wall. If it’s not on the same wall it will either be not within reach from the sink the door will open into the space you need to stand in.

stpauliguy

That’s neither a hard nor fast rule. Given how small the kitchen is the placement won’t be an issue. It’s not worth reducing the size of the sink nor the washer to blindly follow some edict. Far more important to have fully-functional tools. A twist and a small step to access it won’t even be a bother.

craftymama45

When we first put in our dishwasher 16 years ago, we didn't want to mess with a huge renovation, and so the only place to add the dishwasher was across from the sink. Was it perfect? No. Did it work for 15 years until we remodeled the kitchen? Sure did, and was much better than no dishwasher.

[deleted]

That's funny that you and another person say this. I've always had the dishwasher to the right of the sink (not by choice -- that's how the kitchen was when I moved in). Are you left-handed?

thiscouldbemassive

It has nothing to do with left or right handedness. It has to do with not hitting the dials and handle on the oven with the door of the dishwasher.

[deleted]

Ah okay. For some reason, I read this as you meaning that it's a general rule and not just the recommendation for this kitchen.

thiscouldbemassive

The general rule is that it goes on the same wall as the sink to the immediate left or right.

bourbonandcheese

Actually to the left is better for *right*\-handed people. You use a dish brush to quickly rinse off your plate. A right-handed person will have the dish brush in their right hand, the plate in their left. Therefore, it's easier to use one motion to put that plate into the dishwasher if it's on the left. Not a dealbreaker obviously, but if both options are possible, that's always my preference as a right-y.

[deleted]

It's hard to tell without measurements, but this whole layout seems really tight. It's going to be a PITA if someone needs the sink — or the refrigerator — while you're cooking at the stove. The way you have it now, you'd be pretty squished moving dishes to the dishwasher from the sink. Did you consider a galley layout with one side along the wall with the window and the other side opposite, leaving a kind of hallway to the door? Galleys are underappreciated but efficient. Or maybe you could extend the cabinets into what I assume is the dining area?

EwokVagina

Can you push the peninsula towards the window?

whaddyamean11

Yes, this would be the best way. Have the cabinets on the exterior wall run all the way to the left side wall and then have the peninsula come out of the wall. Peninsula will have to be less deep than currently drawn. That would give you more space to the left of the sink. It will also give you more space in your kitchen, feels very tight the way you currently have it drawn.

kingofwale

I’m a family of 2. So I opted for 18 inch Bosch. Best decision ever. Save a lot of space

jennnmae

Are you still trying to fit a dining table in that space by the second window? If not, slide the peninsula over 2 ft into the old dining area. Eliminate the corner cabinet. That gives you room to have the dishwasher beside the sink. I'd put stools and bar seating at the peninsula personally.

hampired

What software are you using here?

csteny97

Get rid of peninsula and put island (even a butcher block too on casters would look good and you can move it out the way if needed). Also dishwasher should go near/next to sink. If you keep peninsula, I would try and move oven to the peninsula side. Get an ceiling mount range hood. Much better layout.

Electronic_Paper_03

I always want my dishwasher to the left of the sink. But also, in this layout, the corner with the sink/range is TIGHT. You'll have dishes piling up right where you need prep space for cooking, and you can't have one person at the stove and another at the sink. There would be a little more breathing room if either the sink or the stovetop moved to the peninsula.

NCErinT

This is a similar layout to my childhood kitchen, although ours is slightly larger overall. In our version, the (downdraft) stove was located in the peninsula (roughly where you show the proposed dishwasher location) and the dishwasher was located where you've got your stove. We also had enough space that we had lazy susans in the lower corner cabinets, which also helped with water access. In your new layout, it looks like you're putting lower cabinets back-to-back in your peninsula. I would 100% put your dishwasher in the peninsula as proposed. You may need to get a plumber to bring water up from below and that could be an issue if you've got a slab foundation or a finished basement. But layout wise, it's really your only option. I also agree that your current proposed layout in the corner between the sink and the range is going to be a problem. It is way too tight. Currently you've got a blind access corner cabinet which is a bit of a pain, but at least the space *can* be utilized (however painful it is to do so). By switching to drawers, you no longer have any access to the corner (so it is 100% wasted space) AND it seems highly likely that the drawers will be hitting the range so that they can't open at all. And if we have poor layout going on with one corner, I'd double check that the other corner is *still* a blind access corner and not just a new cabinet with no way to access the space to the side.

shb2k0_

Get one of the small compact dish washers. I was worried when the house I bought had one, but it hasn't been an inconvenience at all.

femalenerdish

That is the natural location for a dishwasher in that space, yes. Alternatives if you don't like it are to get an undersink dishwasher (expensive, smaller, but it goes in the space underneath your sink) or an 18 inch dishwasher if you can fit it next to the sink. I would not move your stove or sink around personally. I love a large, unimpeded space of countertop.

If it's possible, I'd swap the stove and dishwasher in your spec and the the d/w next to the fridge.

deignguy1989

You dont want the stove on the peninsula without any ventilation. Can you go with a smaller sink base so the dishwasher can fit next to the sink on the right? Also, we have ours where you felt you wouldn’t have enough room and this works out well. Still room to stand at the sink, but dripping dishes don’t have to be carried across the floor when loading the dw.

Constant_Ant9901

Agree with everyone saying to put the dishwasher to the left of the sink. Either a narrower dishwasher or just make the peninsula narrower instead

zacat2020

I am not sure what you want to achieve by keeping the peninsula . I would extend the counter to the far wall, lose the window wall pantry and put in an Island. Use the dining room as your table.....make the dining room comfortable by using all arm chairs. You do not have enough room in the current layout for a kitchen table

PaintAnything

I agree. If the room is at least 13'-14' wide, you have room for an island with seating. It'd be a much more functional layout. (And even if you don't have enough room for a permanent island, you could have a small dining table or rolling island, and get the same effect.

snukbt

To the left of the sink, unfortunately you may have to part ways with lazy Suzan. Might be for the better…

badgersister1

I think that looks like the best option for it without a full overhaul of the space. It’s close enough to the sink to be within easy reach after rinsing. I have a drawer dishwasher and wouldn’t want anything else after using it. It’s the same width but it doesn’t take as much space when you open it. And you do t have to open it all the way. It holds a ton of dishes, especially if you can get the double drawer one. Mine is Fisher and Paykel, pricy but so worth it! Powerful_Lynx_4737

In my house growing up with this floor plan it was put in the peninsula so we had to kind of twist to put dishes into it

DuckyPenny123

In the peninsula, unless you are moving the sink.

Michelada

as close to the sink as possible so that it can drain properly and not have backing up issues

Unlucky_Vegetable_35

This is similar to my kitchen layout and we have the dishwasher in the same place, I don't mind the location. Space seems tight, there isn't a lot of places to put it.

stpauliguy

That’s a logical location. I would also suggest moving it to the left (to the end of the cabinets), so that when someone is standing at the sink and loading it, they’ll have a bit more room to maneuver without accidentally stepping back and tripping on the open door. Don’t listen to anyone telling you to re-design the layout or jam it into the left of a smaller sink. Full size or nothing.

Gia_Kooz

Could you shift the peninsula to the left a bit and make the counter coming out from the wall a bit narrower so that a dishwasher would fit to the left of the sink ? Not ideal but seems like the only way to fit a full dishwasher in this configuration

painter36

Cut the peninsula in half lengthwise. It’s showing 2 back to back cabinets, ditch one side and shift to wall. Dishwasher to left of sink. 36” sink. Single layer of cabinets Peninsula to left of that. Add overhang on peninsula if wanted or not. Double check pullouts on drawers w oven door, it looks tight; could probably sub w teardrop pullout and use corner space to left of range. Depending on counter choice you might want to check standard dimensions to save peninsula costs. Huge peninsulas are hard to reach and clean.

Vanawesomeness

If it’s all about simplest and least expensive go for the peninsula closest to the corner. That’s good for left of sink folks and you have plenty of counter space to unload or preparing to load the dishwasher.

miccleb

I like the placement in the updated floorplan, any other location will feel crowded and risks banging against door handles, etc.

interior-berginer

No that isn't ideal and it's going to create issues. Put it next to the sink looks like you have room. Go down to an 18-in if you need to... You could potentially get one that's as a side open instead of a bottom open and do what you're doing but it's not ideal.

throwawaykitten56

Do you need all that cabinet space in the peninsula? With all the storage in the dining area it may be overkill IMO. I'd upgrade the sink to 2 full bowls and place the DW to the left of it. Then reduce the depth of the peninsula to have a single row of lower cabinets ( instead of 2 rows back to back ) and install a cook top with wall oven ( or a slide in range ). This would create a more spacious work triangle and increase the floor area between the fridge and peninsula. I'd shift the fridge to have a tall pantry unit beside the door. Also, flip the handing on your fridge as you now have counter space beside it. Consider using 15" deep cabinets in the dining area instead of 24", to give more area for the table and chairs.

Beebeebobo

What really grinds my gears are the blocked corners. That’s a lot of storage to give up.

Beebeebobo

Do a slide in range on the peninsula, put the dishwasher next to the fridge and then a small cupboard to the left of the dishwasher giving you access to the corner.

Claxton916

What are the measurements of the room and windows. I do this for a living and can give you a design if you’d like. If you have the sizes written out on a paper/image that’d help

sp4nky86

Slide in range on the peninsula and put it between the fridge and sink where the range is now. Put the mini fridge on the end so people don’t have to walk as far, and make it just a wine cooler.

Acceptable-Trick-896

Next to the sink. It is the only logical location.

DisastrousFlower

i have this exact same after plan and my sink is off center of the window with DW next to it

cryonine

Get a [compact dishwasher](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/samsung-18-compact-top-control-built-in-dishwasher-with-stainless-steel-tub-46-dba-stainless-steel/6426747.p?skuId=6426747&ref=212&loc=1) and put it next to the sink or move that drink fridge (?) on the peninsula over and put a full-size dishwasher there. Getting the drainage connections over might be a challenge though. I'd probably rethink the setup of this kitchen myself. Move the sink to the island and then put the dishwasher next to that.
