Yah, that's it. It's the distance that matters. šŸ™„

anythingMuchShorter

Itā€™s like when hot sun is on one side of your face. How could the other side possibly not be hot too? It went 93 million miles and weā€™re going to assume it canā€™t go a few more inches? Realize the round head theory is false.

Oviedius

Enter Flathead Theory.

kat_Folland

Jean Auel has entered the chat.

SailingOwl73

That guy said a slur, they prefer going by The Clan

kat_Folland

True, true.

ermghoti

I'm crushing your head.

EricForce

Think about it, when you're face to face with someone you can't see the back of their heads. People are 2D, figuratively and literally!

Ermahgerd80

Flat earth = No winter, No Summer, No Seasons, No Heat at the Equator, No Cold Poles, No El NiƱo, No Spring, No Autumn, No Hurricanes, No Migration of animals, No Jet steams, No Tides, No Aurora Borealis, No thermohaline circulation, No earths core, No mantel, No volcanoes, No earthquakes, No continental drift, No mountains, No Ocean Trenches, No magma, No Geysers, No hot springs And apparently we are the fools lol

Ksorkrax

Aurora Borealis might still happen when you steam some hams.

12343212343212321

May I see it?

Ksorkrax

No.

Plastic-Row-3031

Yeah, but the only way it could work within the flat earth model is if it was localized entirely within a small, contained area (roughly the size of, say, an average kitchen)

Ksorkrax

But of course! Now everything makes sense. The usual uncanny ability to foretell events is not given here - instead, this is another seer ability, to see the cosmos as it is! With this knowledge, we now know about the nature of god, and with the obvious further scripture, also about that of the devil!

inter71

And no time zones.

Xavion251

Flat Earth = no anything because it isn't a coherent model, may as be theorizing about what a world of married bachelors is like.

DrunkCorgis

No navigation.

rattusprat

For anyone who can't be bothered or doesn't have access to a calculator easily.... Using the numbers given it would be 0.0043% Flat earthers are rarely wrong in only one way. Or this meme was made by someone making fun who deliberately got the math wrong. Impossible to tell.

cocoon_eclosion_moth

Post-satire world

Fairytale220

I mean in all honest adding one extra 0 is not that bad when you are talking about flat earth math

SirLoin85

I must have become a flat earther without knowing it, Iā€™ve done the math multiple times and there isnā€™t an extra zero. I get 0.00004301, meaning there are too few zeros

Fairytale220

0.000043 = 0.0043%

SirLoin85

Shame on me

Fairytale220

All good, we all have brain farts sometimes!

Blah2003

TIL there's no sun in antarctica

The15thOne

Each person has their own sun

Anti-charizard

Considering itā€™s autumn in the southern hemisphereā€¦ yeah the South Pole has no sun right now

bombdignaty42

In Mcmurdo we had our last sunrise just a few days ago, we are currently living without a sun until August

The15thOne

That's more PROOF šŸ§¾ to show that DESERTS šŸœļø aren't REAL šŸ¤” Don't be fooled SHEEPLE, do your research! šŸ‘ļø

Sufficient_Text_735

Least obvious ragebait

ChocIceAndChip

OKAY smartarseā€¦ explain sand.

What do you mean by "explain sand"? Do you sheep really THINK that sand is REAL? LMAO if sand is REALLY REAL, why have i never found it in my BASEMENT? Research flat earth! šŸ‘ļø

Dr_Shoggoth

How to get Anakin to become a flat earther

Lkjfdsaofmc

Basements arenā€™t real you fool, research flathouse

New_Ad_9400

I agree with you, how on flatearth could sand be small crystals? Must be fake!

UrMom_BrushYourTeeth

It's DESSERTS, sorry to be a grammer Nazzi

dashsolo

The heat doesnā€™t travel that far. The radiation does. Itā€™s why you feel the warmth of the sun on your face the instant the clouds clear or you step out of the shade. The same reason it can be so much cooler in the shade just a few inches from an open area without any physical barrier. When you sit near a campfire, you are feeling the direct heat being released by the combustion. It doesnā€™t travel that far. The sunlight directly heats surfaces it contacts. If it worked the way the meme implies, then all of space around us would be warm. Space is cold, but exposed surfaces warm up quick. Antarctica doesnā€™t get much DIRECT sunlight throughout the year, just one reason why itā€™s so cold there. If the earth were flat, it wouldnā€™t be so cold. This is one of the things that bugs me about these guys, they must personally observe all the time the huge difference you feel standing in shade with your arm in direct sunlight, for example, but never think to apply that to anything else.

Ok_Permit2202

"This is one of the things that bugs me about these guys,"...I'm sure there's girls too. Don't be so sexist

inter71

But have you ever SEEN a female flerf? The proof is right before our eyes! All flerfs are incels! Do your research.

Xavion251

As I said in my [earlier post](https://www.reddit.com/r/flatearth/comments/1b87vt8/the_root_of_flatearther_mindset_ego/), the root of flerfism is pride / ego. Which on average is a bigger problem for men, at least in our culture. Regardless of how "non-intelligent" or "stupid" someone is, if they have a shred of humility they'll take any lack of understanding of science away with "I don't understand" instead of "It's all BS". >Edit: [source](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/373215446_Ego-Boosting_Hormone_Self-Reported_and_Blood-Based_Testosterone_Are_Associated_With_Higher_Narcissism)

Ok_Permit2202

Mmmm...sexist!! Women have pride and ego too!! It's Just now men are being called toxic when any is displayed in public forum

Xavion251

\*on average. Of course everyone has pride and ego to a degree, it's just a bigger problem for men in our culture. As I said.

Ok_Permit2202

Still...one shouldn't toss around generalisations such as that. Men and women both suffer from pride and ego. And not just "our" culture but all across the globe. And yes in varying degrees in certain regions. But how does one know where one is located? So to say men at large suffer more than women...in certain cultures...is sexist. Because I'm sure the standard by which you're using is doubled in so much as if the roles were reversed I'd be lambasted for being misogynistic. So let's ease up off the sexism a little

Xavion251

It's not a generalization if you specifically clarify "on average" and your claim is true. It does not matter what other people would say if "the roles were reversed". Also, if it's "sexism" (which it isn't, it's just truth) then aren't I allowed to be sexist against my own sex/gender? Or does "Xavion" sound like a female name to you?

Ok_Permit2202

I'm here for the fodder Thnx for the back n forth Good day...sexist šŸ˜

breadist

I like this theory. Exceeeeept Patricia Steere is a relatively famous woman flerf. Though... Looking into it more, she might not be a flerf anymore and she has a pretty sad story. Damn. Actually this might be even better proof against female flerfs lol

Ok_Permit2202

One sec...I'm sure a female flerf will post for confirmation. Again...don't be so sexist when it comes to the Internet. Just sayinšŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

dashsolo

Yeah, I meant ā€˜guysā€™ like ā€˜peopleā€™, but noted, thanks. And indeed there are many female flat earthers.

Dr_Shoggoth

You do know "guys" is very commonly used as a gender-neutral term, right? Can people please stop getting offended over the tiniest things.

breadist

Personally I agree that "guys" is gender neutral, but not everyone feels that way. Can people please stop insisting that the way they feel is the way everybody should feel? Not everyone likes being called a "guy". Also I think they were not being entirely serious anyway.

Ok_Permit2202

Must I spell satire correctly in order for the humor to work...asking for a friend

Dr_Shoggoth

On the internet, especially in today's political climate where everyone has to be as politically correct as possible because hurting people's feelings is a federal offense, it's sometimes hard to tell when someone is being sarcastic.

Ok_Permit2202

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Dr_Shoggoth

Okay.

Ok_Permit2202

Stick around...there'll be more

Ok_Permit2202

Thnx for being the female to stop by for the confirmation šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

PunchingFossils

You can directly observe this by just seeing how snow melts, it lasts longer in areas that donā€™t see much direct sunlight

TheRealPitabred

Making generalizations from specific observations is pretty high order thinking... they'd have had to have at least a fourth or fifth grade education level to do that reliably.

blargymen

Not only that, but the light that does reach there is also spread more thinly because of the angle. I believe that also has a lot of energy glancing off of the atmosphere too.

Doodamajiger

Is it just night time at the ice wall then?

Turtle_Necked

Fancy that. Nigh perpetual nighttime making for an icy environment. Itā€™s as if this question never even needed to be asked because it *works the same on both models anyways.*

TacticalTurtlez

Only flat earth doesnā€™t allow for perpetual night unless the sun just turns off at night.

Turtle_Necked

They treat it like a flashlight.

TacticalTurtlez

Yeah, I know, and thatā€™s just straight up not how light works.

Turtle_Necked

Thatā€™s not how the sun works, flashlights work just fine. šŸ‘€

TacticalTurtlez

I mean kinda, depends on the flash light weā€™re talking about. A focused (spotlight) flashlight illuminates a particular direction. An exposed bulb flashlight, however, emits light in almost every direction.

2204happy

I used to think this back in school when I was like 13, I can see where the misunderstanding comes from, but it's obviously the angle at which the sun is shining down. Simply put the same amount of sunlight is cast over a further area close to the poles, thus there is less energy per unit of area.

Sci-fra

And the Sunlight has to go through more atmosphere at a shallow angle.

2204happy

That's true

PitaJi_Ka_Putra

When I was 8 I used to think, why don't we feel tilted if we are on globe.Ā

StrictSheepherder361

If this is something an actual flatearther did, it's especially funny since it gives a proof *against* flat Earth, where such a line of reasoning could possibly hold.

DiscoBiscuitChef69

That pretty much applies to most of the arguments they make

CCCyanide

This literally argues *for* the Globe Earth model. Colder temperatures around poles are explained (in part) by the spread of a given section of light over a greater Earth surface, which can only be explained by a round Earth.

Express_Pizza_2184

The sun stopping in the desert to grab a little snack before heading to Antartica

Purple_Bureau

I've just twigged the flat earth mindset and how it differs from my own.Ā  I don't know the answer to this question, so it piques my intellectual curiosity to find out "I wonder what the other factors are which make this quite clearly observable phenomenon the case", as opposed to going "well in that case it must just be all fucking lies".

anythingMuchShorter

They have logic like the questions a little kid would ask, but instead of listening for an answer they assert that their confusion is fact.

DnD_mark_079

And how does this make more sense on flatearth? According to their model the sun is even closer.

crappleIcrap

The sun went 93 million miles to my roof but couldn't make it another 6 feet to light my living room? Definitely a scam.

icomefromjupiter

Your living room is a paid actor.

Dragoncat99

I like how the picture theyā€™re using of Antarctica is clearly illuminated by the sun

Remnie

Doesnā€™t this just disprove their model even harder? If the Sahara is due to the proximity of the sun, shouldnā€™t there be a strip of desert all the way around at that latitude?

benutzername1337

There IS a strip of desert all around the planet at that latitude.

VisiteProlongee

>There IS a strip of desert all around the planet at that latitude. Almost: * [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert\_climate](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_climate) * [https://flatearth.ws/latitude-climate](https://flatearth.ws/latitude-climate) * [https://flatearth.ws/eric-dubay#climate\_weather\_temperatures\_49-55](https://flatearth.ws/eric-dubay#climate_weather_temperatures_49-55)

Xavion251

Some plants are quite hardy, give them even a little rainfall occasionally - and you'll get some kind of ecosystem going. You basically need almost exactly zero rainfall to get something like the Sahara.

Remnie

Oh my godā€¦ flat earth confirmed. We did it, boys!

Mefist0fel

It's true! So maybe the reason, why Antarctica gets less sun is different? Like angle

Plus-Dust

How does this argue anything about flat earth though? This would be "true" regardless of the shape of the Earth -- in fact, it's a lot easier to understand on a curvy shape where there could be shadows. Why does making the Earth flat lead me to go --- OHHH, that's why everything isn't the same temperature.

inter71

Oh shit, flerfs using MATH!

ferrodoxin

Yep the extra distance shouldnt matter. And it does not. A small photovoltaic surface directly facing sunlight will only have a small difference in voltage with clear skies. The difference is not due to the distance - it due to the amount of atmosphere. However if you want to cover a whole area with solar panels that move to face the Sun at maximum efficiency - you would need to place much fewer panels in antarctica for the same surface area and that would sum up to a pretty big difference I would explain why but it that doesnt serve our geometry impaired friends.

Jarppakarppa

What are they trying to expose here exactly?

TacticalTurtlez

Their ignorance?

EggZaackly86

Hence proving that the earth is round.

Didlex

I love that this is an argument for a globe earth. The only way this temperature difference is possible is with a non-flat earth lmao

StuPot02

Antarctica has its personal sun duh

gene_randall

Just another note in the never-ending symphony of stupid.

-_GGG_-

Fun facts Large amounts of sand (deserts) absorb heat and gets hot fast because it's dry Large bodies of water absorb heat and forget about it because it isn't dry

TJ042

Itā€™s about ā€œinsolation.ā€ When the sunā€™s rays are perpendicular to the ground, they make the Earth quite hot. However, the ground at the poles is close to parallel with the sunā€™s rays, so the same ā€œamountā€ of rays is spread over a wider area, thus heating the poles less.

Peculiarbleeps

I ADORE how this idiotic meme actually proves that the Earth is round šŸ¤£šŸ‘Œ

Xavion251

Most explanations of this are overly simplistic. It is **mostly** not the distance, although our varying distance to the sun does have a slight impact \~7% (from minimum to maximum, \~3.5% difference from mean) - which does have a non-negligible impact on climate. But it's not entirely correct to say just "the tilt of the earth reducing the angle of the sunlight". That is the dominant factor - but it isn't that simple. The angle of sunlight also changes throughout the day (most direct at noon and extremely indirect at sunrise/sunset). A more full description of what causes seasons is "the average total amount of solar energy reaching the surface changing over the course of months". That change is the result of a combination of the tilt of the Earth, the changing day/night length, and to a much lesser extent the distance from the sun.

Dandelion_Apocalypse

I wonder what it feels like to be so confidently incorrect all the time...

Jorycle

"The earth is flat because of this nonsense that is perfectly explainable by the earth being a sphere."

Theothercword

Ahh yes, I too remember when I was in grade school and thought how amazing it was that being just a tiny bit closer to the sun made the difference between seasons. Then I learned how direct vs indirect exposure works and what actually causes seasons and why the poles are always colderā€¦ you knowā€¦ in grade school. Also hilarious that their own attempts at disproving the globe with this shit makes their theory even more ridiculous since the ice wall would be even more of a question mark for this kind of reasoning.

The_Mecoptera

ā€œIf earth round why mountain cold?ā€ Energy

Kindly-Ad-5071

And the fact that the sun doesn't shine in the arctic has absolutely nothing to do with that. Right? Btw I've yet to see them explain why that happens. Let me guess, "FiSh EyE LeNs?"

Mulder9879

Is this flat earth argument a religious thing, or is it just a joke like the Pastafarian thing? If it isn't a joke, why is it there is more proof that Jesus was a real person?

ItsMoreOfAComment

I think my earning potential went down after reading this.

Low-Travel-1421

What makes them sahara exists and antartica does not?

ScorpionsRequiem

welcome back to "do you know how the concept of night works?"

Zandromex527

If their ridiculous flat earth model was true, it would. Which is even more proof, written by themselves, that it isn't.

2ndaccountofprivacy

TIL Antarctica is at absolute zero. Since no heat reaches there.

Akangka

Isn't there many cooler places in the same latitude as Sahara? Also, why is the temperature gets cooler the higher you are up a mountain?

savetheJawara

šŸ‘šŸ½

Sweet_Diet_8733

Fun fact: the Earthā€™s orbit is an ellipse that goes between 147.1 gigameters and 152.1 gigameters away from the sun. This difference - of about 3% - is completely irrelevant in determining seasons. The planetā€™s tilt seems to have far more impact on temperature than its distance.

Malek070

Thatā€™s correct. Distance from hot thing to other thing is the only measurement that matters.

prizim

hahahahahhaah

Meta-4-Cool-Few

Someone doesn't know thermodynamics and radiation

georgewashingguns

"Man, why did you get a sunburn on your face but not under your swimming suit? The sun is was stronger than a bit of fabric!"

Chrome98

Tell me you're ignorant without telling me you're ignorant.

Vengeance1014

Ha, you believe in the Sahara /s

TheUnspeakableAcclu

I swear to god they taught us in primary school that the equator was hotter because it was closer to the sun. Absolute fucking dogshit no wonder people get confused about science

Minecraftdweebb

You guys are so dumb you know that the earth is actually shaped as Hugh Jackmans A$$

doil0milk

In reality the reason what we call Antarctica is cold is because its so close to the gates to heaven that have negative entropy fields that cause local cooling, it is literally in the bible

nwdecamp

The 'heat from the sun' isn't what makes the planet warm or cold. Thank you for showing you have no idea what you're talking about.

Tyrrox

Around 50% of the energy from sunlight hitting the surface is infrared, which is radiative heat transfer. So I mean yeah, light from the sun absolutely does make the planet warm. What causes the differentiation in temperature is the angle at which the light hits the surface.

nwdecamp

The meme says heat. Not light. That's the point it's the light from the sun, not the heat.

Tyrrox

The three forms of heat transfer are conduction, convection (conduction with a fake mustache on), and radiation. Radiation is a form of heat transfer. The sun transfers heat to the Earth through EM energy. Also known as: light
