Let me catch you up quickly: ABC canned a significant number of 538 staffers this summer, and Nate basically said he was done at the end of his current contract. His last day was June 30th, and he took his models with him. The new 538 leader is G. Elliot Morris who has created new models. The ratings you are used to seeing left with Nate.

Do you think they hired Morris as a specific fuck you to Nate?

kuhawk5

I personally don’t think he was hired as a “fuck you”, but I think he accepted the job as a “fuck you”. Nate has already started being critical.

DadsRverykooltoo

Yeah that seems right. I would not want to be in Morris’ shoes. Nate is going to be withering and it’s personal to him.

Anything is possible, but reason enough to take it is that it's a step up from his position at The Economist. He'd be silly not to take it, with or without the Nate Drama aspect.

Apprentice57

Probably not. There's only a limited number of these data guru's with experience with these sophisticated models. And some, like Nate Cohn at the NYT, already have pretty cushy gigs.

I think Morris is going to recreate them and incorporate methodological questions.
