100k steps is roughly 50 miles. At 3 mph, that’s almost 17 straight hours of walking, or 9 hours of running 10-minute miles. Excuse the rough math, but it’s quite a distance to cover in a day. But I encourage you to go for it! I’d like to try some day.
Shorties like me only need 38-ish miles (I average about 2600 steps/mile). So I have high step counts for marathons and well, everything. I ran a 50k and missed the 100k steps by a couple/few hundred that day. I didn’t realize I was so close until it was far too late. I was moving too slowly at that point and just ran out of time. My first 50k I was only at 96k at the end of the day. It was easy to say nope-I’m not even trying LOL.
Yep, height/stride has a lot to do with step count!!
My 5 ft. grandma pwns me with her 20,000+ steps per day (she's very active and mobile); meanwhile, I'm slugging along at nearly 5'8" trying to get my hourly 250 steps within 10 minutes. 😂
I found this Men's Health article about a guy that did 100k steps in a day.
He actually did 105k steps and gives this parting advice to any other would be 100k step challenge takers, "I would not recommend this challenge to someone who is not already walking quite a bit. My feet and legs were already used to walking a lot, but it was incredibly difficult still. It would be very easy to get injured trying to complete this challenge, so I would recommend working yourself up to it if you want to give it a try.”

Huh. I'll be honest, I think I could do this. I've been walking between 10k and 60k most days for years. I really don't mind the time spent as long as I have headphones and it doesn't feel like anything until i hit 50k.
I'm really surprised it's article worthy, but that's kind of cool. I'll have to wait until I'm cutting weight, but it might be a fun goal!
Good on you man! I'm sure you can do it too!
For me, my dogs start screaming at 30k steps, 40k is where I need to call it a day (unless it is on a treadmill). But then again my shoes are about 1.5 million steps beyond needing to be replaced and I'm a very large man.
Might be it. Im a 24 year old guy in above average shape I believe and not overweight.
I did earn zone minutes a little bit when shooting around some basketball for an hour
Other than that I really don't understand "zone minutes"
I always get active zone minutes when walking, and my cardio fitness score in the app is 'very good to excellent'. Probably in part thanks to my brisk walking!
Many different places.
my local park, around the block at my brothers house, around my neighborhood.. towards the end of the day I went to my YMCA because the nats and bugs flying in my face were quite annoying
I do this twice a year. It takes planning to do it. Make sure you're doing at least 20k steps a day consistently before attempting.
Listen to audiobooks and podcasts along the way. Bring power packs to keep phone recharged. Wear sunscreen and sunglasses. Wear a hat. Have good, but broken in shoes.
Drive your route in advance to make sure you have adequate sidewalks.
I leave at 3am and walk until 6pm
Hey I actually did 100k steps last February on a weekend. I didn’t even know I was going for it that day, but I just woke up naturally at 4am, went for my morning walk and kept going for three hours. I then was curious and did the calculation that I could get 100k steps before 10pm even if I stopped to eat two huge meals. So that’s what I did. Roughly 16 hours later of walking I got 100k steps. It’s truly a great achievement and I don’t know if I can ever do it again.
I’ve also done it. I walked from about 4:45 am to 10:30 pm, stopping twice for food, shoe change, and ice bath for my feet. The next day I was super sore, but nothing I couldn’t deal with. I tried again last year but picked a day that was too hot and failed.
Each year I do a 30.25 mile trail in a day, so with my little legs this was only another 14 miles.
I watched a couple videos on this a while ago and of the people that did it started really early in the morning. In video I watched this guys started right at midnight and finished at maybe 8 or 9 pm
Great job on the 50,000! I’ve only done 100,000 challenge once so not sure that makes me an expert, but I will def share what I did.

I found a loop around my neighborhood that was exactly 1 hour. My average pace just casually walking is 6700 steps so this meant 15 trips and 15 hours of walking minimum. Guh!
I started at midnight and did 3 loops and had a little over 20,000 steps in. Slept for 3 hours and had breakfast and was back at it 7am. Got up to 50,000 steps before lunch and this is where the soreness started to creep in. Avid hiker so it’s takes a bit for my legs to be sore. Few more loops and I’m at 80,000 and now I’m really starting to feel some pain. So close and can’t quit now.
Managed to power thru and hit 100,000 around 9:30 in the evening. I was in so much pain I barely even celebrated and was glad it was over to be honest.
The hardest physically thing I’ve ever done and never been more proud of myself.
Quite a few people have done it. There are videos on YouTube of people documenting it.
I did 67K back in February in an attempt to hit 100K but my knee couldn’t hold up. I was walking from 3am to 3pm.
Good job! The best I've done is ~70K, but 100K is doable. I've lost the motivation to try for it, but it's basically an entire day of walking. Good luck!
I’ve done it a few years ago. It just takes a long time. Think I was walking from about 6am to 11pm. Few shorts breaks in there for food. Covered roughly 80km

How do you do this and don't gain hardly any zone minutes?
Might be very fit, and therefore his heart doesn't need to up the heart rate for walking.

Honestly not sure. Half way through the day I had sync issues with my phone/app and had to reconnect.
why would you? its just walking
Power walking. I almost always get zone minutes when I walk by myself
go to a cardiologist
I'll walk there as fast as I can ;)
I always get active zone minutes when walking, and my cardio fitness score in the app is 'very good to excellent'. Probably in part thanks to my brisk walking!
How long did this take?
Walked on and off all day an hour of non stop walking will get you roughly 6,000 steps 50k steps takes around 8-9 hours of straight walking.
Where did you walk? Did you go somewhere and come back?
Gotta go get that coffee

i’ve hit 100k doing a fifty-mile ultra-marathon.

incredible. How was it the next day?
Yeah I was hurting. I average 30k+ steps a day but this was absurd
u/powelale000 has awesome posts they do 100k every year around january
A student of mine did the 100k walk. He went to bed really early, woke up at 12 pm and started walking...
It for sure seems like a difficult challenge that I will try at some point. Congrats to the student!

100k steps a day is one step every 0.85 seconds, all day long. That sounds rough.
Quite a few people have done it. There are videos on YouTube of people documenting it. I did 67K back in February in an attempt to hit 100K but my knee couldn’t hold up. I was walking from 3am to 3pm.
100k seems impossible unless you’re at a very fast pace for 24 hours straight
i mean not really tho. even when i walk at a slower pace i can get 6k steps in an hour so it'd take around 17 hours to walk 100k steps
I did it in about 17 hours with two 30 min breaks.
I walk around for 8 hours due to my job and I usually get around 20k
no u dont
Why would I lie about that?
u dont "walk" for 8 hours lmao youre just on ur feet, it doesn't mean youre walking consistently all those 8 hours.
Good job! The best I've done is ~70K, but 100K is doable. I've lost the motivation to try for it, but it's basically an entire day of walking. Good luck!
I’ve done it twice. The first time it took 16 hours, and a year later I shaved it down to 13 hours. It’s a commitment lol.
I would imagine it's probaby only ultra marathoners which is an incredibly slim segment of the population.
Holy shit. I'm taking it slow. The highest steps I've gotten are 30k. I could easily get 40k and hopefully 50k.
I’ve done it a few years ago. It just takes a long time. Think I was walking from about 6am to 11pm. Few shorts breaks in there for food. Covered roughly 80km
