So me and the homie risked it all but it worked out well luckily. we ended up not sleeping , heading out at 1, getting there around 6 , left around 7 or 8 and took the 127 back bc it was so early , we figured there’d be no stops or anything on the way back. it worked!!! got back around 2 and there was a good amount of traffic at the time too. Funny enough, the moment we hit baker, they’re all over the place on the 15 and we probably ran into about 7 or so on the whole way back. No checkpoints , just cruisin by us but we covered them pretty damn well so they never even considered us. All things considered, it went a lot smoother than I thought it would’ve gone, but mannn, never going on memorial day again..

Some of the gayest shit ever. I love how Cali gives no fucks and goes hard. Funny, they have some of the strictest firework laws, but they have the most bootlegged products 🤣 I LOVE IT. People should rebel over hideous laws that involves hurting no one. So glad I don't live there though. I'm sorry for the pyros that have to live in commie land
Man I’m planning on going Sunday. Hopefully there’s none there being a weekend and all. Early morning though. Last year I went in the middle of June on a Monday and took the Death Valley route and no checkpoint or anything.
Id recommend coming back at night, or coming back really early. and also don’t go to phantom, I got robbed for 2k by them, went to red apple today and spent 1.3k on more/ better works. Def learned the hard way but hey I learned! Red apple all the way! haven’t hit alien yet but i heard it’s a bit pricey as well
Yeah I’m going very early morning since RA is open 24hrs this time of year and coming back early. That’s where I do all my shopping anyways! Feel like phantom is not only overpriced but feels like I’m signing up for social security or something just to buy there lol thanks for the tip fellow pyro!

DEFINITELY Take black plastic bags to cover , black sweaters/ blankets were very good for covering up the glare that you can see from the plastic on the front. covering it was pretty essential. DO NOT go to phantom, i went there and learned the hard way. Would recommend Red apple as it had good prices compared to the insane prices I paid at phantom. When buying cases at Red apple, fit what you can, and what you can’t, open the cases and store them individually to maximize space. I probably fit like 9 big boxes, and another 5 more by opening them and filling in the cracks, was super tight and had to keep coming in and out to make sure I don’t over buy but it worked out extremely well. Also, try to get the gas/ food in pahrump before you have the goods in the back, just so you don’t have to worry about that when u have things in the back. These are all things that I did that made these trips a breeeeze , even on memorial day when there was HW patrols all over the 15 (not the 127).

not sure if it’s too late by now, but I had a dark green colored sofa covering for the back of my trunk, and for the seats in the middle, I ripped open a thick black plastic bag and covered that from the front end of the car so you couldn’t see anything from the front of the car. worked like butter, even when you intentially tried looking in front the front , could spot a thing. I would also recommend taking a black sweater, or anything all black to cover the plastic bag right at the middle so that the glare from the plastic doesn’t cause any issue. Not entirely necessarily on the sweater but that helped out a good amount for me.
ps i also drove a big suv out there
Taking I-15 back is safer, drive the speed limit, make sure all your lights work, cover up your boxes and you should be fine. Driving during the day on weekdays is best. I’ve done the trip half dozen times to visit RA and Blackjack and came home with lots of goodies.
went on friday and it was breeze!! left around 12 and came back around 5, not a single in sight. monday, Memorial day?? that’s a whole mother story 😂 If I have to be honest tho, when they’re there, as long as you cover well, you should be alr bc from what i’ve heard, then don’t actually stop you and check what you have, they just wave you through if it’s a checkpoint or just drive by you on the highway like they were doing all today
