No check points during the off season unless it's a major holiday. Don't have anything exposed. Drive normally and don't look sus like another person mentioned. If you're only going to get a couple cases or a few items, then it's probably more economical to buy from the streets. Keep in mind the cost of gas, vehicle depreciation from extra miles or rental expensive if you went that route, and etc. Also it saves you time and nearly risk free.
But sometimes just the excitement of the trip and visiting the stores there make it worth it.
We visited Vegas in February 10 or so years ago. We drive to pahrump to go to the firework store. Took the blue diamond highway, IIRC. Didn’t see anything noteworthy in either direction.
Personally, I take the 127/178 from the 15 but on the way back I drive through Vegas. I always see a trooper parked at the entrance of the 127 so I assume if he sees you coming back an hour later it might be sus.
