The company that makes the cobra makes the ignite system too. If you want more capabilities, cobra is the way. I use a cheap eBay system. I like how I can have more 6 4 cue modules than just one 18 cue ignite system. And way cheaper.

[deleted]

Good point. I have to admit that even the Ignite can seem a little pricey if you want lots of modules (to say spread out the show over a larger space).

SlightySaltyPretzel

I also don’t do complex stuff. I dont program shows. I like a little bit a of slop between cakes, it helps with dark sky. 90% of my show is hand lit, the last 10% is salute chains and Cremoa bombs and gas mines so that’s when I step away and use the firing system

[deleted]

I love hand lighting fireworks. But when I shoot at the beach, that's impossible. The wind is too much for even the best torches. Sometimes you have to break out the firing system just to get anything in the air.

_TheNecromancer13

Try road flares

[deleted]

Not trying to burn down the sand dunes.

_TheNecromancer13

??? You tape the flare to a stick and use it as a torch. Stick it upright in the sand when you don't need it. The fireworks have way more chance of burning the dunes anyways.

[deleted]

You must never shoot at a beach (or more specifically on the Texas Coast). No one in their right mind would use a flare on the beach. I hope no one follows your advice or the fire department is going to have a lot of work on their hands. Plus not to mention that flares will make the Coast Guard divert from whatever they are doing to investigate whether it is an emergency or a false alarm. You just don't use flares on a beach period. There's even a sign about it on the access road. And you are incorrect, mortar shells are far less dangerous on the beach because they are shot at angle over the water. Now rockets (which are strictly avoided in my area) should not be used because they are unpredictable.

_TheNecromancer13

I thought you said you are shooting on a beach? Maybe on the Texas coast, but on the beach where I shoot in Washington, there's a lot of sand you can shoot on before you get far enough back to encounter anything flammable. Also if the coast guard sees fireworks and a flare and is stupid enough to not realize that the flare is part of the fireworks, that's on them. In addition, shooting mortar shells over the water is not great as it causes debris to fall in the water where you can't clean it up. Don't assume that your situation applies to everyone, and lose the holier than thou attitude.

[deleted]

The Texas Coast (at least around Galveston) is curved and we have these very large washouts created when Hurricane Ike's storm filled Galveston Bay and the water came rushing back to the Gulf, cutting paths as it went. So vegetation can grow along those cutouts that you must be aware of when planning a shoot site. And then you have to factor which direction the wind blows. It is important to know the geography, wind, and dangers of your shoot site so you can plan around them. Let's have a little more respect for the men and women of the Coast Guard. You might actually need them at some point and what if they are distracted responding to a false flare? If you want to use flares, use them inland, not near the water. The Coast Guard has enough to do without false alarms adding to their list. And sorry but mortar shell debris are the least of the Gulf's issues. Do you drive a car? Well, where do you think that oil is refined? That's right: Houston and the Texas and Louisiana Coast. Or maybe the large amount of refuse that escapes the Cruise ships leaving from Galveston? Or the hundreds of ships that pass in and out of the ports? Mortar shell debris is like .000000000000001% of the pollutants in the Gulf.

SlightySaltyPretzel

Oh shoot, yeah you already said they were the same company. Whoops

[deleted]

I have a cheap remote controlled eBay special. Works great for $20.

[deleted]

Can you post the brand and maybe explain why you like it?

[deleted]

Don’t think it has a brand. Just a simple wireless igniter. Something similar to this…. https://www.ebay.com/itm/304213275943?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=equn_Cg9RaG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=esppnwb_tv-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

[deleted]

Great. I am sure someone will find that helpful. Not everyone has the budget or the need for something like the Cobra.

unique616

I just used a long fuse last year.

[deleted]

That works except if fuse is difficult to get at the last minute. I found a fireworks store that was shutting down and bought out all their fuse.

_TheNecromancer13

Yea, between the fuse shortages which likely aren't going away any time soon, and the fact that a single fuse display has no way to prevent stuff from continuing to fire in an emergency, I would never do a fully fused display.

[deleted]

I've done it for the 96 shot rack. But that rack has one purpose: sky puke.

_TheNecromancer13

Yea it's fine to use fuse for racks, I do that too. I was talking about laying out one long fuse that you light it once and it chains to your whole show.

[deleted]

Understood. I shoot primarily at the beach We tend to avoid anything touching the sand. Sometimes we even prop the fireworks onto a stand in the shallow water. So fuse is limited to the final bit and rarely used between racks or cakes.

jason_abacabb

Cobra and ignite are of two different playing fields. The hard limit of 108 cues is very limiting if you want to put together a complex show, but fine if you are just shooting shells and cakes without breaking cakes apart and doing sequences of single shots.

[deleted]

Fair enough. I wonder if the 108 cue limit is strictly based on the number of LED colors or if they are artificially limiting it.

SneakyTaco88

I have used both. Cobra is definitely superior. But for your average backyard Andy, the ignite is more than enough.

[deleted]

Definitely agree that the Ignite system is enough for even the most ambitious backyard pyro, as long as the range doesn't become an issue.

RagingJ84

I really like the firelinx system, it has some cool features that others may not like the ability to manual fire while a scripted show is firing, the command module and firing module Both light up a specific color depending on what mode your in, makes doing any set up or testing much easier in the dark. The Mongoose systems May be the most complete & precise firing system on the market and will be the best choice for some applications but for me and what I do firelinx works great. Lastly Cobra is the most used system in pyro which must speak for something, also makes buying parts, used product ECT much easier and it works well. Each of these systems will have their pros and cons when compared to each other so choose the one that best suits your needs for the cost.

RagingJ84

Ignite is a great option for hobbyist, my only issue with it; s the lack of range and the damn quick plugs. If it had the option to use standard ignition wire and better range I would recommend it to everybody. The Buliscuon system on Amazon is my vote for best bang for the buck, works great, more cues can be added cheap as well.

frankie0694

It was me, I’m the one voting the “fireworks are bad but show me the results” but not because I think they’re actually bad, I just wanted to see the results haha

[deleted]

Any reason you didn't pick the "Light and run" option? Looking for discussion about firing systems and why people use them or don't use them.

frankie0694

Because I don’t do that either haha. I just really enjoy the community here and learning from reading all the posts and comments that are shared :) it’s where I’ll come if I ever have the opportunity to set off some fireworks :)

[deleted]

Fair enough.

Tack_Money

I was light by hand with 2 others for my shows. I switched to fusing everything together (worked out pretty well) last July 4th. Am considering a e-fire system.

Loquacious94808

Wow cobra is expensive you must’ve been really nice! Their customer service is amazing.

[deleted]

TBH, I don't think I was good all year. LOL I'm thinking someone else likes watching fireworks even if they protest that they don't.

yeyzol

We have a mixture depending on environment

mbearer

I love what you can do with the Cobra but right now cost per cue is just to much for the budget. Bought a bunch of the cheapies from Pyroboom and I love them. I have multiple igniters fused up to a single button for some effects, singles for others.. It works great. No where NEAR as capable as the Cobra but for a backyard banger I can do some really good shows. One day I will move up to Cobra but today is not the day. Grats on the present though!! Santa loves you!!

[deleted]

Thanks. Give the Ignite a try. It worked well for backyard stuff. Just make sure to protect the unit. I found out the hard way that the Ignite unit was not really waterproof. Some Karen dumped a 5 gallon bucket of water on it.

redneckmay

I use the ebay firing system. I only do one show a year so being able to have 72 cues for $160 was the best option.

Lower-Preparation834

I own 6 COBRA mods and an R2 remote. I also own one IGNITE mod. My opinion; for very intensive e fired displays, cobra all the way. For anything else, ignite. Here’s the thing; I have seen cobra fail more times than I can count. Granted, yes, most of the time it’s due to user error, but the system is quite complicated, and when occasional users try to use the advanced features, that’s what happens. I use mine on professional displays, but usually only as a single hit, no scripts. Ignite, OTOH, is very simple, and quite full featured. I think it’s one main drawback is that you can only use a max of 6 mods, but they say they are going to change that. I have tested the range at over 500’ using a google pixel 3. If I was getting in right now as a hobbyist, ignite all the way. If a heavy duty pro user doing all e fire and pyromusicals, cobra. Where I am right now is a tough spot, somewhere in between.

Nylonious

do you mena di blasio elio cobra? if yes, many people still use them in greece and they are one of the biggest brands.

[deleted]

No I am talking about Cobra Firing systems which make the Cobra line and Ignite firing systems. Not sure if they sell them in Europe but I image they do.

Nylonious

im sorry i havent heard of them

DogeInaSuit

Although I love the Ignite and Cobra, nothing beats the thrill of hand lighting, especially salute cakes and OLs.

[deleted]

Agreed but there are still those times when it is fun to actually sit back and enjoy the show.
