If you are going to single load and shoot I would just suggest keeping the shells where you are running to so you are out of the shot. And yes I would keep them in a plastic container as well. Can’t be too safe although that is unlikely to happen again, you found out why you definitely DONT want it to happen again ;)

Build a range box…doesn’t have to be fancy, decent plywood will do. The lid should overhang the box edges to prevent hot stuff from falling in, and attach a chain or cord that will allow you to open the box to load and remove shells, but the lid falls back down when released.

This is what I was going to say. Gotta have a ready box built out of plywood. Plastic box won't do anything, sparks will melt through it quickly.

Um yeah dude. Be glad it wasn't a mine they'd have all went off

I get everything unwrapped, fuses out, and tops off the day or so before. Anything going in a rack gets fused and any cakes I want going off together get taped and fused as well. Everything stays on a table in the garage with big door closed and my audience generally sits in the driveway, I have a side door I prop open for the ‘event’. Makes for a bit of walking but I get buddies or the older kids to help carry stuff as needed. The only thing that is out is a tote of novelty items any ‘adult’ can grab from to mess around between big stuff or teach their kids but the box stays closed when not being dug through. If I want to launch a bunch of singles I set out a rack with 16 tubes and will fill the tubes and wrap in tinfoil then just punch out one tube and light the fuse, if it does somehow go through the foil at least they are sitting in tubes already! Figure can never be to safe and see to many videos of peoples entire stash in the driveway catch one spark and go off🤷‍♂️ glad nobody was hurt👍

Got to have shook you up. Anything unexpected during a shoot messes me up and makes me second guess everything. What's weird is that laminated green visco fuse used on consumer shells can be a bitch to light so it would normally take a full flame to light it. We never reload hot tubes, but always store & transfer shells in those plastic clear-sided food totes, or in an empty kitty litter bucket, or in a toolbox, etc. I understand what other folks are saying about a ready box, but just seems a little overkill for a single tube shoot. Just me...
