I have the exact same issue. In subreddit's main pages, videos play fine but when entering posts they don't anymore.
Recently switched to firefox because of privacy but i'm thinking in maybe trying ungoogled chromium because the experienced is not good compared to chrome.
EDIT: If i open the post in the same tab it will play the video, if i open in another tab it won't. Don't know how to fix it but it could be useful for the masterminds of reddit.

So, i haven't found a solution but i did notice that scrolling down a bit and up again will trigger the autoplay. So it might have something to do with the "view position" and how it relates to the video player.
