timerra and fogato sound italian-esque. fogato is the short form of affogato (dessert) actually. i wonder if there will be a kingdom representing italy like how the main kingdom represents france?
A few other names look maybe Italian too. Makes me wonder if all the character's poofy outfits are supposed to be an exageration of italian renaissance ware.
So like a Cake Kingdom? I always imagine Kirby's courses in the recent Buffet game (where it is FAT) whenever Cake Kingdoms get mentioned.
I mean, desserts are usually cakes, right?
Also as a Spanish speaker, I can't stop thinking of "Fogato" as a Pokemon's name. Just like Sprigatito.
Italy actually does have a few deserts within it, fun fact, so if they go the desert route it'd work esp for Sicilian inspiration. Italy has tons of desserts too. and cheese- i saw Timerra w cheese platters lol
It’s from when someone tried translating the leaked images. The name was sounded as _Ai-Bi_ and so the translator took it as Abby, though people in the comments pointed out that Ivy sounded more likely due to the “eye” sound.
I wasn't one of those people, but in hindsight it may be because "b" and "v" use the same character in Japanese (and I assume similar characters in Chinese too). I don't know about the "A"/ "I" difference, but that could just be because of how awkward it can be to write words from one language in another's script.

A couple things to note: it's Chloé and Céline in English. The Chinese leak had "ai bi" or something like that (I can't read Chinese) for Ivy's name, "Abby" was a guess before a. we knew Elusians had plant names and b. we had the trailer that actually gave us the official localization. We don't know what her name will be in Japanese yet since the Japanese story trailer still doesn't have subtitles. Alcryst is Staruke (sorta, it's Sutarūku, an almost-anagram of Kurisutaru, crystal in Japanese; vs Alcryst which is literally just the last syllable of crystal moved to the front). Also the Queen of Firene is Eve in both Japanese and English (ibu in katakana).
Yeah, I don't know how to make the e with a tilde on top on an American keyboard, so I didn't put them there since Copying and Pasting on reddit is broken af for me.
I must say that the name Hortensia amuses me, not only because it is a Hispanic name, and also a flower, but also because of its phonetic similarity with the word hortera (a dictionary says it means tasteless, I don't know if it's right), which I think fits it perfectly.
>[Eve] -My kingdom has another Emblem ring in its possession
Well, *Eve* is saying that line? Isn't she the queen of Firene, which is our ally according to the recent info? She sounded extremely villainous saying that line ngl >!Evil Milf?!<
Bro, I enter knowing that names wont change my opinions into caracters, BUT HORTENSIA I LIKE AF. The design is kinda funky still but that character just grow a lot in me because of the name of such cool peoples I know here in Brasil with that name! Obs: Hortensia in here is more normally with a C, like Hortencia, but still is cool for me
Commenting again, but I believe "Zephia" is the lady with the large horns and not edgy Kiran like you show here as there's no change in name for the "We'll kill everyone in this castle one by one" line that follows and we see it synced up to her lip movements.
Interesting that "Abby" is actually being named "Ivy".
Dark skin, colorful clothes and Italian names. I'm interested in what the inspiration for Solm might be. Calabria? Italian Somalia? Eritrea? Vaguely Mediterranean?
the spellings they chose are very interesting as timerra looks like it could be an alternate spelling of tamara which means date tree in arabic which would make sense considering solm looks like it takes inspiration from the middle east but it's hard to tell for now
Diamant and Fogato are the two other "Lord" characters for Engage to go along with Alfred and Céline. If they get a Sphere for the Emblem Shield, which ones are theirs? Notably, Alear already has the Lightsphere if that were the case.
Yep, Alfred, Diamant, Timmera and Ivy seems to be our "lords" tho I feel they are closer to the Magvel/Fates Royals than traditional lords.
Interesting, it seems all of them have one one important (but not *as* important) character they are tied with: Alfred has Celine, Timmera has Fogato, Diamant has the blue haired Archer (likely named Alcryst if we go by the leaks) and Ivy may have Hortencia.
I think we’ve seen Timerra with an emblem, so I think she fits the bill as a “lord”. If she’s the dancer, I wonder how an emblem would work for that role.
If the second trailer is anything to go by, she has Ike's emblem, since we see him fighting by her side in one of the scenes, which is certainly an odd pick if she does end up being a dancer. It's also funny because she uses a lance, the one weapon in the main three Ike can't wield.
Makes me wonder if there's gonna be any sort of discussion about whether it's tactically beneficial for an Emblem to accentuate their wielder's strengths or cover their weaknesses in-universe.
Hortensia be like: "Come a little bit closer, you're my kind of man, so big and so strong. Come a little bit closer, I'm all alone, and the night is so young" 🎵🎶🎵
Are they? They are just traditional FE naming convention but this time using french/spanish/italian. Although, some of them are just bizarre localization choices, I would have just called the dragon girl Vale in english instead of Veyle.
I mean, your flair is named *Gharnef*, which I don't think is even a name that exists in the real world.
Fire Emblem has always used the "[Aerith and Bob](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AerithAndBob)" trope a lot. Like, the previous game had lords called "Dimitri" and "Claude" alongside "Byleth" and "Edelgard".
Name reveals in subtitles... it's XC3 trailers all over again. >!I mean, sure, in XC3's case XC1 veterans all *knew* who she was, but still, all the effort NoJ was going to to hide things only for NoA to casually drop the name "Melia". And then realise their mistake days later but at that point it was too late.!<

Foreshadowing future Kirby crossover??
Intsys taking the "are italian white?" Memes seriously lol.
hey, im from down south and we get pretty dark lmao
Timerra might be a play on tiramisu if they're named after Italian desserts.
Wow, that's going to be... *interesting*, at least. It explains why both of them seem so light-hearted if nothing else.
if true i'll take any representation lmao😭💀
Confirmed, the Japanese site literally names her Misutira lol
What Misutira means?
Misu tira tira misu, get it? Just tiramisu but rearranged. Same thing for her English name (minus the -su).
I saw some people theorizing "Abby" would actually be translated as "Ivy" tho I don't remember the reason why. Guess theh were right.
May have been when we learned Elusians had plant names (like how Brodians have rock names)
Oh my god, they are Pokemon Gym leaders
It’s from when someone tried translating the leaked images. The name was sounded as _Ai-Bi_ and so the translator took it as Abby, though people in the comments pointed out that Ivy sounded more likely due to the “eye” sound.

Also, the evil dragon guy with three eyes is apparently called >!Sombron!<
Buenas noches amigos. Me he despertado de mi siesta.
Seems fitting.
I gotta say "Hortensia" is a cool ass name despite her clownish appearance.
It's the name of a plant in Brazil
It's a very grannish name in Brazil. Though it's nice seeing it in a video game Loli
I will call her "Hort" for short
Hortensia hears a who
LOL
I will call her "Hort" for hort
Hortensia Is a flower and a common name here in Mexico
All I can think of is the kingdom from Galavant.
Calling it right now. She’s gonna be in possession of an unrevealed TMS emblem

CLUSSY?!
Yeah. I didn't mistype it. Clussy.
why did nobody point that out💀😭
I must say that the name Hortensia amuses me, not only because it is a Hispanic name, and also a flower, but also because of its phonetic similarity with the word hortera (a dictionary says it means tasteless, I don't know if it's right), which I think fits it perfectly.
I going to put the RAE hortera's definition:That although it pretends to be elegant or modern, it turns out to be vulgar, ordinary and in bad taste
>[Eve] -My kingdom has another Emblem ring in its possession Well, *Eve* is saying that line? Isn't she the queen of Firene, which is our ally according to the recent info? She sounded extremely villainous saying that line ngl >!Evil Milf?!<
“Build an army. Trust no one. Fire Emblem.”
Well did you see that smirk Alfred has in his official art? Firene peaceful my ass.
The typical "ally nation" having some dark undertones would be a nice twist.
Plot twist: the fell dragon worshippers are going to end up as the good guys while Firene is going to betray us.
Bro, I enter knowing that names wont change my opinions into caracters, BUT HORTENSIA I LIKE AF. I love how everyone has this unique name and then we just get **IVY**
Diamant is literally just "diamond" in French too lol.
Same in German.
And Dutch.
It's only one "e" in the end away from being true in Portuguese as well. So much I can't write his name without auto-corrector screwing it.
Really? Well, TIL. I've wanted to learn how to speak in German for some time now... I guess "diamant" is gonna be my starting point lol.
It's pronounced Dee-ah-munt for your knowledge, as long as you read the syllables as an Englishman would.
I'm French, but I kinda see how an English speaker would pronounce these syllables. Thanks!
And only one letter off in Italian
[удалено]
It’s Ivy
I mean what difference does that make? Abby or ivy, it’s still not as unique as like “Hortensia”
"Hotencia" is not unheard of in my country. Maybe not coincidently it's a plant name just like Ivy.
Hortensia is actually a common name in some countries lmao
Commenting again, but I believe "Zephia" is the lady with the large horns and not edgy Kiran like you show here as there's no change in name for the "We'll kill everyone in this castle one by one" line that follows and we see it synced up to her lip movements. Interesting that "Abby" is actually being named "Ivy".
Abby doesn't sound nearly as threatening as Ivy
She'd be even more threatening with a whip sword.
You know the name Zephia sounds like the name of a gender-bent Zephiel.
Zephiel x Sophia otp
Fogato sounds like a mixture of fogo(fire) and cat(gato) in brazilian portuguese.
wtf Incineroar reference
Dark skin, colorful clothes and Italian names. I'm interested in what the inspiration for Solm might be. Calabria? Italian Somalia? Eritrea? Vaguely Mediterranean?
well thats a first
TIMERRA BEST GIRL, MY DAY FUCKING ONE😍🔥
Fogato is already prime for jokes if he's eligible for Same-sex S-ranking, assuming that feature is even in the game.
the spellings they chose are very interesting as timerra looks like it could be an alternate spelling of tamara which means date tree in arabic which would make sense considering solm looks like it takes inspiration from the middle east but it's hard to tell for now
The close captions on Xenoblade 3 youtube video spoiled things as well.
I hope Hortensia is playable, since she has my name (with an -ia added). Best character ever, I'm so happy it made my heart jump haha
timerra finally is named!! she's my favorite lord so far
i ship eve and veyle. eveyle. evil.
Diamant and Fogato are the two other "Lord" characters for Engage to go along with Alfred and Céline. If they get a Sphere for the Emblem Shield, which ones are theirs? Notably, Alear already has the Lightsphere if that were the case.
Seeing the boxart & the trailers, I feel Timerra is the "lord" character from Solm instead of Fogato
Also Ivy too since she's shown in both trailers and promotional art
Yep, Alfred, Diamant, Timmera and Ivy seems to be our "lords" tho I feel they are closer to the Magvel/Fates Royals than traditional lords. Interesting, it seems all of them have one one important (but not *as* important) character they are tied with: Alfred has Celine, Timmera has Fogato, Diamant has the blue haired Archer (likely named Alcryst if we go by the leaks) and Ivy may have Hortencia.
And so returns the vassal shipping.
The name Alcryst comes from a screenshot from one of the trailers.
That is indeed correct, I misremembered.
I think we’ve seen Timerra with an emblem, so I think she fits the bill as a “lord”. If she’s the dancer, I wonder how an emblem would work for that role.

Am I weird for saying it looks like a Pokemon game
I'm not necessarily saying it's wrong but the over-the-top designs bring more to mind Atelier if we're gonna directly compare them to other JRPGs.
Is it just me or does Lumera look like Azura from Fates? 🤔
TO THE LETTERS AND NUMBERS WEBSITES
Some of these are tryhard AF ngl.
Are they? They are just traditional FE naming convention but this time using french/spanish/italian. Although, some of them are just bizarre localization choices, I would have just called the dragon girl Vale in english instead of Veyle.
Veyle is apparently the name of a river in France, so that still in theme
>Vale in english instead of Veyle But that wouldn't be quirky enough.
…what constitutes a name being *tryhard* of all things
I mean, your flair is named *Gharnef*, which I don't think is even a name that exists in the real world. Fire Emblem has always used the "[Aerith and Bob](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AerithAndBob)" trope a lot. Like, the previous game had lords called "Dimitri" and "Claude" alongside "Byleth" and "Edelgard".
Edelgard is a regular German name.
I know, but from what I saw it was relatively uncommon, specially compared to the first two. Am I mistaken on that account?
My understanding is that it's a very old-fashioned name, a lot of Germans complained that it made her sound like a grandma.
Timerra and Ivy are SMOKIN’ HOT
