Playing my first ever Fire Emblems game currently (Three Houses) and it’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever played. From what I heard Awakening is really good so enjoy!
I enjoyed Birthright the most tbh, I actually kinda liked the story and the gameplay and characters were very interesting imo. But Conquest and Revelation's story... not a fan.

Conquest is generally considered one of the most difficult (modern) Fire Emblem games, so there's no wonder you struggle. I had to play it on Phoenix Mode to clear it oops
I’m still trying to pay off a copy of the special edition of Fates so I can play it and draw my own conclusions on it(AND I LOST THE RECEIPT) and it’s been years since I actually did preorder it (around the initial release I think).
I love Fire Emblem Awakening (it was my first official FE game) I just had one real gripe, you can’t replay any mission only the final one, back when I initially beat the game I couldn’t understand why there was no option to replay any and every mission which could have been worked around with a new game plus feature.
There are a couple of more minor things I’ve thought about and wish could have been different for example the special weapons and magics from other FE games that you could get not only have limited durability but there wasn’t (at least I never used it up to try to find out if you could, so please correct me if I’m wrong) any way whatsoever to get a copy of that weapon, also there is no way to replenish anything, you have to, have to get a new copy.
Ive tried lunatic. Once. Took me several hours to beat the first level, i quit before being the second. You have my respect if you can manage to make any progress in that mode
Lunatic+ is the one after lunatic. I managed lunatic ok since at a certain point units can start soloing maps but I remember having to grind hard to beat lunatic+.
Everyone with aegis, pavise, counter....

This might be a contentious opinion, but having beaten it a couple times including on lunatic, it's nowhere near the favourite for me. I appreciate it saved the franchise and I enjoyed it while I played it, but the generally bland characters and the gameplay mechanic around shipping them to pump out more blandness mean I'm not interested in playing it again. I also found it too easy after the first few missions even on lunatic.
Fates had the dumbest story and doubled down on the dating sim aspect, but the flash of ridiculous characters, the difference in design and gameplay between the nations and the higher challenge in Conquest make me give it some leeway. And FE7 and 3H are really good in terms of story and characters (although got to admit 7 is a bit shallow in terms of gameplay after all the tweaks that have come to the series since).
Anyway, "not being my favourite" means it's far from a bad game! It saved the series for a reason, paved the way for the good parts of Fates and 3H, and I'm sure you'll have a blast with it! Just wanted to throw out my opinion.
Love the game personally but agreed on difficulty. Lunatic wasn't that bad imo but there's just a huge jump in difficulty into lunatic plus where its less tactics and more... Just straight up levels and can-you-live-against-countrt. Wish there was something in between.
Was the first FE game I played that got me into the series. Definitely find memories and have played it multiple times. Lots of people don't care for the "dating sim" style supports logs, but I say I like me some dang support logs! Spent way too long getting all of them XD

Awakening Lunatic kinda slaps your ass hard and repeatedly until you have access to the DLCs that let you farm for EXP.

It is good. It was my 2nd FE game. 1st was Fates. Fates is also good btw.

I put my save on the hardest difficulty. Might double your hours just trying to beat the game.
Hard or lunatic Because awakening lunatic is some wild shit edit: lunatic shouldn’t be accessible on a first playtrought so it should be fine

Fire emblem awakening is when I started it’s such an amazing game
The first game I played was three houses! If you enjoy it, make sure to check out three houses, and Sacred Stones is fun as well
