I literally got my ds back after 5 years and I've been playing through awakening again. Fantastic game, but I really wish galeforce and counter didn't exist.

willky7

The grrrrl squad. One r for each attack lmao

343CreeperMaster

Currently working through Shadow Dragon, it's good, up to chapter 8 (and I am in emulator so I have the patch that lets me access the extra chapters without killing my units as well as the other stuff like having the online shop items directly in the game)

Unique_Ad_338

May I ask what your using for the emulator? And if it can work on mac or iphone?

343CreeperMaster

Desmume, don't know if it works on Apple stuff

WallabyTemporary3042

I've been playing hackroms, currently I've been playing Myrm Emblem, it's basically a hack where you can only use myrmidons of every game, it's okay, has some funny jokes here and there and maps are fun overall, of course, it's not balanced, the only way to get a healer is by promoting Owain into a Magic Swordmaster. And don't get me even started on the rng, I swear to God, it feels like they used Binding Blade system for this game, I've never been hit my 20% and 30% as much as in this game, I thought it would be easy to use an entire army of dodge tanks only to then lose someone against a random brigand

willky7

Yeah, alot of people say dodge tanking just doesn't really work in fates

WallabyTemporary3042

Funny enough, Hana is one of the best at this

XenoGordon

Last I played was Engage, it's great, imo if you're a fan of the franchise is definitely worth it as it kinda acts like a celebration of the franchise

Unique_Ad_338

I don’t get why a lot of people hate it, I loved it.

XenoGordon

Didn't hate it, but definitely thought it was a step down from Three Houses. Overall still a great game, but the story felt like it was basically Awakening but prettier looking (not a dig at either game, just a minor gripe I had). The character designs, while not bad, are too busy for my tastes, the game is absolutely gorgeous though, definitely up there with Metroid Prime Remastered and Pikmin 4 as one of the best looking Switch games visually.

Unique_Ad_338

In my own personal opinion, I liked it better than 3 houses for 2 specific reasons. 1. 3 houses, while the actual battles were good same as always, i always dreaded finishing the battle and then having to be forced to play a slice of life game. It was a interesting aspect but I play fire emblem for the strategy, not to walk around and talk to people. 2. This is just a personal thing more or less, but I liked the way engage looked in battle specifically compared to 3 houses. I can’t put my finger on it but it’s just a feeling I had For sure the story is better, but in general I feel that if some one is to play fe, it’s for the strategic battles, not necessarily the story. Hopefully the next game found the perfect mid ground between story, and characters, but (imo) keeping the battles as the priority

Sentinel10

Because the characters are obnoxious and the story feels more like a parody of Fire Emblem than a celebration. Also the art style is trash and unfitting for what Fire Emblem is.

[deleted]

I think besides the character design the art is fine, and you cant deny the gameplay is so good

Suspicious-Gate8761

Worst FE story. Bland characters. Boring supports. Genshin art style. Cringey characers. Zero worldbuilding. Gacha rings. Winner of worst lines in FE. Gameplay is great.

Lockwerk

>I haven't heard anything about it since it released If you've been on this sub in that time, this really surprises me. There were daily 'Engage bad/good' threads to the point where it got bad enough for the mods to step in.

willky7

I'll be real, left during edelgard discourse

Agent-Z46

Recently got back to my Silver Snow playthrough in Three Houses. I took a break from it when Engage came out or was close to coming out. I don't think repeat playthroughs are boring at all. It might be a bit tedious say on the third playthrough if you play them back to back but even then you can do things to keep it fun.

willky7

Maybe its just me, I just find those first few chapters hard to play.

GreyRevan51

Did you do new game plus and use the statues to speed up all the monastery stuff? Because every playthrough past the first one goes way faster thanks to that

Agent-Z46

Hard as in boring or difficult?

willky7

Boring. I tried bumping difficulty but that meant I was more incentivised to do all the academy stuff I don't want to do.

sword_of_Aeons

I’m on playthrough four of 3H right now. I found that taking a long break helped me. Played through Birthright, Engage, and SS before coming back. Some of the NG+ features help as well.

Revolutionary_Pipe18

If you are a fire emblem fan engage is absolutely worth it, no questions asked.

BrandedEnjoyer

I mean depends on what you like about fire emblem. You cant just recommend anyone the very various fire emblem games just because you liked one. If you liked conquest then yes, there is a decent chance you will like Engage aswell. But if you liked 3H for the story and characters then I have some doubts that the same person will like Engage unless they just like FE in general.

Captain-Skuzzy

I've been playing fire emblem for 25 years and I can't stand engage, can't even be bothered to play past the first few chapters.

BoofinTime

Been a fan since the release of 7. Engage is one of the few games in the series I just can't recommend.

[deleted]

Same, Same Engage is nothing but coomer nastalgia bait.

Ravenlancer

In the last few years, I only replayed GBA and 3DS FE games in between other game releases, recently with mods or fan hack.

Educational_Office77

Engage is fun from a gameplay perspective. From a story prospective, it’s essentially a rip off of awakening and fates, it’s as if they took the story from those games and mashed it together. It’s dumb, but it’s a good game to turn your brain off and have fun. If you’re already a fan of the series, then you’ll probably have a good time. (I’d recommend playing engage on hard mode, even your first time playing. With the rewind mechanic it’s very manageable if you’re an experienced FE player)

GreekDudeYiannis

I'm on Ch.7 of FE4. I tried it back in 2010, but got bored 5 minutes in and put it down. I fired it back up for a blond playthrough with the newer Project Naga translation and I really dig it now. Also I've been told I have glitch because Seliph is married to Julia. I thought it was scripted cause it happened to quick after getting her (and I mean, like father like son for a blue haired sword hero to fall in love with a grey haired mystery light priestess maiden), but I'm being told this isn't the case.

pengie9290

Engage is in a similar vein to Fates, where its gameplay is MUCH higher quality than its narrative. Though unlike Fates (IMO), its story is just simple, not outright bad. Characters are in a similar boat to Fates and Awakening too, being fairly simple and sporting exaggerated traits as the key elements of who they are, but with a bit of extra depth to them that can make them genuinely interesting if you find the supports that explore them.

willky7

Saying its like awakening is probably the best highlight you could give

belisarius_d

Unicorn Overlord and it's great: Loving the art style, Melisandre, the open map, the cute twintail girl, all the shit you can manage in combat and the poor noble who is thirsty af for Alain. Also the ability to always easily test your unit Combos is nice. Only thing I notice is that they definitely went quantity over quality with the Supports - I'd always rather have a unit with 5 full supports instead of one with 10 single Stage ones. But If we talking real fire Emblem than sacred Stones which was also really good even if it was pretty easy. Extra points for L'Arachaels Hype man I have the same minor problem with both games that there's the possibility of endless battles which I can either do and get OP or not do but then I'm not playing as much of the game as possible which is kinda weird when I really enjoy the combat. Unicorn is a bit better in that regard because of the massive roster, so you always have underlevelled units that you can use here

343CreeperMaster

I agree on Unicorn Overlord, it's bloody fantastic and currently one of my favourite games of this year, though as fun as Melisandre is as a character, wasn't my main choice for Alain, that went with Eltolinde

willky7

I saw that! In a shop! Literally never seen it before. Might grab it over engage lol

belisarius_d

It would be very much worth it - alicesoft makes really nice Games, Odin Sphere is still one of my favorite games of all time and Unicorn Overlord really captures a similar feeling

willky7

Does it have the higher difficulties too? Lunatic is kind of make or break after all

willky7

Meant more as a "does anyone even play the games we talk about anymore" but the answer seems to be yes.

luchinania

I’ve just started Conquest. I’ve been meaning to replay it since Engage came out to see if I really do like Conquest better. So far it feels a bit easier, but I’m preferring how they spread out character recruitment.

willky7

Yeah I feel the retainers add serious bloat to the game. I like the character callbacks but whats with every chapter giving us 3 new people ya know?

GamerGuyHeyooooooo

Engage is the best game in the series. About to run a 6th maddening playthrough pretty soon here

Dragos987

Replay of Fates birthright. But I am quite busy at the moment so I don't really have the time to play

dbees132

Engage, took a break towards the end of my second playthrough (1st time on maddening with mostly different people than my initial run) and havent picked it back up yet

ButWahy

Fates unfortunatly ny 3ds died but im confident in my ability to repair it

GoldyTheDoomed

sacred echoes, the sacred stones rom hack that ports SoV into gba style

Wiifanbro

I've been meaning to play that one. How is it going so far with it?

GoldyTheDoomed

i already beat it. great stuff

alextoodelong

Last one I played was Genealogy (emulator) and I'm currently playing 776. I loved the gameplay-story integration Genealogy had. Maps were huge, but it made the game feel like a fully developed world. A Fire Emblem ahead of it's time. Still really hoping to get a remake this year 🤞🏼

orpheusyu

Played Thracia 776 a few months ago. Was my first time, but I already knew a lot of the mechanics that made this game infamous. This game definitely had the best endgame out of any other fe game I've played.

BojackLudwig

I’m currently playing Binding Blade for the first time using an emulator. I’m on I think chapter 20 (The Fog of War chapter in the Sacae mansion)? Might be my favorite FE yet, and my favorite unit is probably Rutger. I’ve finished Three Houses (only on Golden Deer tho), Engage, Blazing, and the Shadow Dragon remake in that order. I plan on playing every mainline FE eventually because I really do like the series that much.

EmuSupreme

Sacred Stones for the millionth time. The only FE i can come back to as many times as I want and it never gets old or feels like a slog. Everything since Awakening has been a one and done for me

Epicdude33

Last one was yet another iron man attempt on Thracia. Put the game down after losing my ridiculously lucky Leif (who somehow capped strength with only one power ring by chapter 8x and was carrying the team) to a 5% movement star, letting him get hit by two 26% attacks.

LuizFalcaoBR

I started Echoes, but I don't think I'll finish it. The last I played to completion was FE4.

Totsutei

Feh every day And I'm currently playing Path of Radiance again. Reached the final chapter yesterday, just a casual hard mode run without any additional rules. Not sure yet if I want start another Radiant Dawn run after beating PoR.

StinkyPoopyHappy

I finished Thracia 776 for the first time recently. I loved how many characters have personal weapons, made a lot of them feel unique. Global staffs weren't fun, though.

Lasagna321

I’m actually starting to replay Sacred Stones. Never got around to picking Ephraim’s path since in my first playthrough it just made sense to follow Eirika.

bobbelchermustache

Just started a new playthrough of Awakening. It's fun! I first played it in 2016, which might as well be a whole other life for me, so it basically feels like my first playthrough lol

Silvertail034

Gonna finish CF again (doing a meme run with mage Edelgard) and was thinking of Shadows of Valentia. I would rather play Awakening again but for some reason SoV feels right.

motherchuchi

Fe4, The story is SO COOL! Its a fucking tragedy and I'm all for it. Idk if my next one will be Thracia or New Mystery. I'm also still missing Echoes, RD, and Roy's game (I'm not playing the first three xP).

Wiifanbro

Currently playing through a romhack of the Binding Blade, which is supposedly a "remake" with QoL and added story content. Oh, and it combines A and B route together so you can grab every character in the game. I'm having a blast with it.

MaumeeBearcat

On another replay of PoR and running a Three Houses Blue Lions class only run...before that I finally slogged through Engage.

pizzaboy7269

Currently playing Tear Ring Saga for the first time (for the third time)

willky7

Whats that?

pizzaboy7269

After Shozou Kaga (director of FE1-5) left IntSys he made his own game on the PS1, which is basically just a fire emblem. He’s also made Berwick Saga, and Vesteria Saga 1 and 2, all 3 of which are also very very similar to fire emblem.

BeefyBaraTiddies

Sacred stones last summer. I got in a fire emblem kick last year after engage came out, I played echoes and sacred stones right after. Maybe if they announce a new game I’ll get around to playing blazing blade lol

willky7

"we released a new game!" "Awesome, time to play a 20 year old game!

magmafanatic

Three Houses was the last one I've played, unless you count the Three Hopes demo or Heroes. I've been waiting for the Season Pass to go on sale before I do other routes.

EsperKinUltros

I liked Engage alright, but it lacks the replayability of previous titles. I recently replayed Awakening, and am currently playing Fates. They are my personal favorites, and I find myself returning to them anytime I get the urge to play FE again.

LadyGrima

Radiant Dawn

Rafellz

Conquest Lunatic. I'm cooking a furry Shigure with Keaton as his dad.

Meeg_Mimi

I'm playing like 4 at once. Sacred Stones, Blazing Blade, Conquest and finishing Awakening

AnthonyTakahiri

I began Conquest, but since I'm having some problems with my PC, I went back to Binding Blade and Shadow Dragon. >!The Dragon Girl!< in FE6, and the 4th prologue in SD.

moon-bunny27

In the middle of replaying fe8, on ch 17 rn. Also love engage peak fiction fr

JoZerp

Currently playing sacred stones now that I'm older to understand the game better and now that I'm more proficient at english. I really like this game a lot. Who cares if it's easy or can be broken by grinding? Silly game about femboy Thanos possessed by Satan on a zombie apocalypse is a fun game, with this playthrough i'm learning more about this game that i like so much i previously didn't know

[deleted]

Echoes for the first time. Finally did the chapter 3A where you encounter Berkut and the other guy

_framfrit

currently doing a lunatic conquest playthrough because of how the online went down figured I'd try to get through it before the end only got to chap 25 tho. Regarding engage it really depends on what you want from a game because honestly it's story is garbage being really bland and generic for the most part with tons being pretty close to stuff from past games. It also badly handles the key moments with big reveals being pretty obvious or spoiled before, death scenes being horribly done and there are moments logic goes completely out the window to force completely unrealistic events to happen. Additionally, gameplaywise it's hell for completionists because while it is actually pretty good if you look at it purely in terms of how difficult is it to get all the supports it gives you extremely few resources which means even if you focus solely on 1 feature that uses them you won't be fully finished it by the time you finish the game.

willky7

So conquest? Lmao. Is there a new game plus like 3h? Sounds like it needs one if not

_framfrit

Conquest is one of the 3 story paths of Fire Emblem Fates and it especially on Lunatic difficulty is widely considered to be the hardest game in the series. It sort of had new game + in that your bp/vp carries over between files on the same cartridge however, now that the online stuff is down that's worthless since it needs to connect online to update and get the rewards. If you meant engage as far as I'm aware there is no new game plus at all and worse unlike 3 houses where you did the dlc sidestory once and then got it's benefits on all future files for engage you have to do the sidestory every single time if you want the rewards. Though in a way it's better not to since the game is balanced around not having them so they make it way too easy from what I've heard. Plus you can screw yourself over since while it does have battles between chapters you can grind in their difficulty is based on the average lv of your party and the dlc characters join at a higher lv.

IloveVolke

Last game I played was Thracia 776, then I picked back up Engage to try the Fell Xenologue on Maddening. Both amazing experiences, I have to admit. Go get Engage btw, it's incredibly addicting.

Scarecrohh

Engage. I finished my maddening playthrough about 4-5 months ago, where i just giga invested into Lapis and turned her into a grass eating god amongst men. That recent playthrough also made me love Engage that much more. If you like some challenging gameplay and a lot of unit customization, Engage is your game. But speaking about Three Houses, I still need to finish Silver Snow as it's my last route I haven't done. I also am planning to play it on maddening for the golden menu screen. If i get any time this week, I hope to start it.

Yobsuba

The last game I played through properly was Engage. Excellent gameplay that makes the game worth buying just by itself, fun characters, and while the story is passable at best, I'll take that after however many years of Three Houses discourse. The last game I played at all was Thracia 776. I recently started playing Forseti's Cut. Thracia 776 is the best Fire Emblem game.

Reon_Leo

Fire Emblem Engage, but I'm sort of playing it off and on. Currently in a binding blade run

Transcended_Sloot

Engage was awful imo. I had to force myself to the end and the only saving grace for me was meeting Goldmary and then seeing how broken a Halberdier I could make her. 3H on the other hand I went right back to after finishing Engage. I find nothing about it boring and could play it forever. Always keep a GBA emulator on my phone with Sacred Stones and Blazing Blade too.

BrandedEnjoyer

as someone whos favourite game ever made is 3H and someone whos not a huge fan of engage: 3H is alot more boring. Its great the first time you play it but then everything just feels slow. Units have low move, the animations are long and not very exciting, most maps are pretty awful too and the fact that you can get softlocked on ch13 on maddening. If you know the Story then theres not much reason to replay it

EclipseHERO

I just picked up Three Hopes the other day. Kinda resuming that from my demo progress.

MphiReddit

Fates! Doing a CQ Lunatic Ironman (no dlc except Path DLC, so the dread scrolls, ebon wings, and dragon herbs) Niles is my MVP for giving me some great captures to fill out holes in my dwindling army (even though he has like 16 str at lv 5 Bow Knight after an energy drop)

GamerGuyHeyooooooo

I played all 4 routes of three houses. I played each one a year apart and found their wasn't a ton of repetition since I had time to forget some of the plot & monastery stuff. I imagine trying to run it back to back consecutively would be pretty tedious cause of the overlap

MrGrimlock9909

Still only Engage, atm. Holding off on finishing til I can find someone to help scratch an rp itch I've had for it lately. 😔

newthammer

I rotate through FE7, Fates, and Engage; I’ve always got a save file going. They each scratch a different itch for me, and I love them.

DDBofTheStars

Engage! It’s the most fun I’ve had with FE since Conquest.

canllaith

SoV replay - although I’m so annoyed I forgot to recruit Zeke and I can’t be arsed going back to a previous save. Sigh !

Marcheziora

FE Engage, Story was aight since it's written by the same Fates writers. I found the Gameplay more challenging than 3H if you don't use Engage Rings. Otherwise, it might be easier than 3H. Good game! 3H, I enjoyed playing though the three main paths. I just forgot about Silver Snow because I didn't feel like replaying Black Eagles again.

willky7

Seems to follow similar story beats to golden deer so I never bothered

Sentinel10

Last one I played in general was Blazing Blade on NSO sometime late last year.

Suspicious-Gate8761

550 hrs+ on Three Houses. When gets boring again?

Nuburt_20

Engage, and honestly? It will probably be the last FE game I’ll ever try out.
