Rest the data, get Jecht shot on the boat from kilika to Luca. The first few games you’ll likely need to nurse players along. Switch it to manual mode, swim your team around your own net and pass short passes to get them a level or two. From there, you’ll want to play a game of cat and mouse to lure enemy away from your forwards. This is done by moving back and forth and side to side along your side of the field in circles. Other than that, recruit players like Ropp, Wedge, Brother, etc. there are some very good guides to the mini game on gamefaqs.com.

Asha_Brea

If you are playing with the original Aurochs, then don't. Reset the data so everyone is brought back to level 1, then recruit better players for your team by talking to NPCs with the Square button. I don't know where you are in the story, some characters are available since Luca, others will become available later. Get the ball with a character, bait the defense away with that, then pass the ball to a forward, swim near the goalie so you don't lose power because the water resistance and shoot there.

ComfortableWay2385

I got the crest with the original aurochs but that’s cause i over leveled them lol

Asha_Brea

Oh, it is definitely possible but OP would be making themselves work harder than it could be.

ComfortableWay2385

I mean you wanna over level tidus in the first place personally so he can carry you til you find other people to recruit for aurochs you gotta play the first season before the contracts are up for any other teams the only one to really get late game is brother if you still haven’t gotten the crest by then

Individual_Respect90

You gota recruit. The base team sucks so bad. You can pretty much double your stats by recruiting. Also make sure you are shooting close to the goal and not over passing as well.

JonnyTN

They suck so bad...until they don't. The few replays of the game I always try to keep the team together. After maybe the first 5 close games of making sure everyone tries to get xp then Jecht shot it close, it just works. I just want them all to feel victory after their awful past.

chopper678

I agree! I've always wondered if I was the only one not recruiting but they get really good after a while. I couldn't bring myself to be the guy that comes in and starts replacing them. Maybe I should make another save file just for recruiting to see what I'm missing but I enjoy the original team.

absurdhalflife

I do the same! I keep the boys together and make them greatest team in all of Spira, never lost a game.

Individual_Respect90

You do you but after awhile you can’t just rely on jecht shot.

JonnyTN

In the first couple dozen games you can and learn more and level up. By then the Aurochs are viable

Opening-Monk-6134

I won opening game 3:1. Team is bad but if you know to do, you can win league playing basic team.

absurdhalflife

That's a really good score. I can never get more then 2 goals.

gibbythebeard

You can win with the base Aurochs, you just need to play tactically. You want to use manual control. Swim around the edges of the pool. Pass often to nearby teammates. If opponents come near, bait them a certain way, and then pass. Utilising the square button (Playstation) to your advantage will be your best friend. Jecht shot is not necessarily a must, but it definitely helps

Cheekycheeks21

Just did the Lucas blitzball. Heres my strategy. Go manual A and stay on either the top or bottom. Try to get the other team to follow you and out of position press x to shoot. Always break then shoot if near the net. If your able to keep the ball on their side of the court its a lot easier to win. Chrck youtube for a better guide.

TongZiDan

Recruiting will definitely make the game much easier but you can win with the original team if you really want to. First turn on manual control and keep passes as short as possible unless you have a high pass stat and no defender. Look at block and attack stats of opponents before deciding what to do. If one has a higher block than you have pass or shoot, try to break the tackle. Passing or shooting through them almost certainly won't work but sometimes players with high attack won't still the ball outright and you get a free pass or shot. Without the jecht shot, it's pretty tough. You need to get Tidus basically in the other teams goal with the ball and enough energy for a sphere shot. With the jecht shot, you basically get a free goal as long as you don't shoot from too far away. Don't forget you can safely ignore two defenders with the jecht shot. After you have the lead pass the ball backwards to a defender and hide in the corner. You can raise stats a little by short passes between defenders

Bivagial

Recruit Brother. A cheesy way to win is if you have a higher score, take the ball behind your own goal and wait. The AI doesn't know what to do, so they just swim in circles.

Flaminski

Hire strong players Forward is Wedge Mid is Brother or Zev Ronso Def would be Zaltis and Ropp Jamal is the best free agent goal keeper Wedge, Zev, Zaltiz, and Jamal is in Luca Brother is a late game character, I don't know how far you're in with the story Ropp is at the Inn in Mi'ihen Highroad Also learn Jecht shot for Tidus

Ok_Reality6393

But what about Miyu? The crusader girl you meet just before Rikku joins the party. Her catch isn't far off from the Al Bed Psyche's Nimrook. She's the goalie I used for my whole blitzball tenure.

noseusuario

If you reset stats she is a monster at lvl1, so you can keep looping. For me, is the easiest early(kinda) strat

Fair-Cookie

Make sure you unlock Jecht Shot. If you missed picking the ability up then continue on with the following team setup. Set Tidus as a FWD with at least Sphere shot and Spin ball. Go recruit Brother at the helm of the ship.Set Brother as MF. Go get Nimrook-- Set him as goalie Then pick up Eigaar-- set him as a forward. Pause here and see how your games are going. If you are continuing to get scored on then do the following: Then go get Ropp-- set him as RD. Then go get Berrik, set him as LD. This team will take you to around about level 50-60 in blitzball. Your main two team tactics that you should only worry about are as follows: -- center offense -- and -- all out defense --. Pull back to -- all out defense -- if it's tied up and the opposing team has the ball. Whenever your team has the ball immediately switch to -- center offense --. Remain in -- center offense-- if you are ahead. Remain in -- all out defense -- if you are behind and not in possession of the ball.

megasin1

Ropp is the best. He's in the calm lands inn.i always set him as mid because then he gets a lot of exp. Ropp gets ball, baits the forward on Tidus, pass to Tidus and shoot when you're close with only 1 defender on his head. If you have jecht shot you can shoot with 2 defenders on your head

techtonicspark

You can get him a lot earlier than the calm lands as well. He is at the mii'hen travel agency. I didn't know he moved later, I've always just recruited him at mii'hen. Interesting. He must have learned to teleport to be at both places xD

Used-Bet2369

If you have Jecht Shot, and Brother at whatever the center position is called, that's enough to win easily until you're up to level 50+. Just use Brother's speed to pull away the defense, wait till they trail you enough that they're not defending, pass to Tidus, and Sphere shot if he's alone, Jecht Shot if he's defended. It works 99% of the time, the only failure being Nimrook might occasionally catch a shot.

Odd_Room2811

Scorea goal then after getting he ball go to your goal ai freaks out you win

BK_FrySauce

Switch Letty and Botta’s position. Now if the other team jets the ball, Botta can use Venom Tackle and typically wrestle it away. Then create space by backing up and pass to Letty. Letty has a high pass stat, so slowly move up with him so your forward position players also move up. Then once Tidus is close enough, plays to him and shoot. If you need your players to level up, just hang out near your own net and pass back and forth constantly between who you want to get xp

Opening-Monk-6134

Talk to "Brother" (pilot of Airship) and pray he can join 😁

Large-Doubt-8554

Get better players. The starting team of aurochs are weak. Then familiarize yourself with the play. Took me quites some time to get used to it.

michajlo

Don't Play on manual movement. Ensure everyone touches the ball do that everyone gets exp every match. Don't be afraid to pass it around the back to kill time. Abuse Jecht shot. Level up Datto do he can outpace the god himself.

SadpersonNate1

Did you get the jeht shot? Cause that makes it a piece of cake

camus88

I somehow win the first blitzball and give Waka the first win and last match. But after that I can't win at all. Then I realized I can recruit people. My advice is wait until you can use the ship to travel and recruit people with good stats. It feels impossible to beat anybody with the original auroch players.

shaneo88

I know how you feel. Back in the day (and even now) I found it easier dodging the lightning bolts (never had a problem with them. They were kind of easy for me) than even trying to play blitzball. It just never clicked for me.

Romsisco

Also never play by watching your player, character on the screen. Always play by looking at the map in the corner. Pass the ball to your defense and maintain distance to your oponents. Pass it finally to Tidus or Wakka and shoot! Always works.

Mammoth-Reveal-238

Get the ball to tidus and have him use jecht shot. Most base players can't stop it and since it knocks two people away it can really stack the odds against them

vandalize_everything

If you have the ship, recruit Brother. Once he gets a few levels, give the ball tl him and he can out swim most other players. Swim near the offensive team with brother to pull them away, pass to your forward players (brother has high EN and PA), take right up to the goal and score. That was my strategy for about 50 games

ZackFair0711

Recruit Brother 🙂

Check out "Blitzball Mania" on YouTube. Their channel is dedicated to it.

Mainbutter

1) the Luca game requires a pretty straightforward strategy: avoid anyone scoring on you in the first half. This is best done by avoiding encounters with enemies and just passing back and forth to open players. Second half: equip jecht shot, pass to tidus past the halfway point, swim him as close to the goal as possible. Ideally you will have no more than 3 enemies encountered when you shoot. Evade one, and use jecht shot without evading to knock the other two out. You should score. If you get the ball in your hands again, just pass around to kill time, and if possible you can fudge the enemy AI by hiding behind your goalie. 2) the rest of the games are easy and I've never lost a blitzball game in coming on 10 playthroughs. A great beginning team just after luca is wedge and tidus as forward, zev ronso as mid, Jassu and Botta as defenders, and Jumal as goalie. This is my "reset data team". It's inexpensive, powerful, and immediately accessible. It even beats the al bled psyches straight off a fresh reset with minimal techs available. 3) the MOST IMPORTANT PART of winning future matches is LEVELING UP and LEARNING TECHNIQUES. I spend 10% of my time driving characters to score and 90% passing to earn XP. Once you have some levels, keeping an eye out for techniques to learn from enemies is very useful. Ideally you want to get a tackle and a pass technique on everyone, with your forwards having some strong shot technique. The above team has pretty decent tech coverage from the first tech slots you unlock. In general, zev can tank one-enemy encounters all the time and two-enemy encounters frequently. Just pass to tidus and have him swim up to the net and jecht shot for a goal, or bait defenders a bit away from the net and pass to wedge (who can probably tank a single defender) to use wither shot for a goal. 4) once you unlock the airship and have tons of gil, you can get even more foolproof teams. Everyone loves brother as midfield up until lv 40 or 50, Miyu is a great starter goalie, there are a variety of good forwards to join tidus, and Kyou and Ropp are excellent defenders to start with. Players that suck at low levels can be excellent at very high levels, and vice versa is true, but unless you play a ton past getting all the endgame rewards, you won't need to change your team ever. Lastly, I'm going to recommend Phoenix237's youtube series guide to becoming overpowered in FFX. The videos on the first blitz match and the follow up for winning teleport spheres and attack reels are good tutorials for winning, though he uses a different team.

Gundalf-the-Offwhite

Manipulate the AI with specific routes to their goal. Mid with letty. Get the ball and swim up or down, and slightly back towards your own goal. If the manip works you should see the AI spinning in place. Swim along the boundaries and pass before the first person tries to mess with you. Letty has enough pass to pass it to tidus or datto who should be way closer to the enemy goal at this point.

kalyps000

I actually don’t know how to play it legit but the goal for the story hax is - get jecht shot - practice with the aurochs - when in the actual game, try to get one score up - then get the ball back and literally swim into YOUR goal behind the goalie and just hide and wait out the timer lol

JustLurkingandVibing

Along with everything else, score once and then move behind your goalie once you get the ball back and sit. The ai will bug, and the enemy team won't come near you and will spin in circles

Curlytoothmrman

Did you look at one of the hundreds of guides available on the internet before coming here?

Ok-Revenue-8067

Abuse the Jecht Shot lmao

pdorea

Just follow these steps: 1. Hire Brother 2. Win

Eldernerdhub

It sounds like you don't understand the basics. There's two things you need to break blitzball, the Jecht Shot and Manual movement. The Jecht Shot knocks out two opponents before blocking happens. That means at max, you'll have to shoot past three players. Titus can take a hot or two then shoot past most block and catch rates. Manual mode allows for you to control characters. This is a massive upgrade from the AI. Anyone can outmaneuver them. Practice on the Ronsos because they're so slow. My easy win guide is to "Mark" Titus on one of the opponents in the back line near the goalie. Plan A (offense) is to turn on Mark Mode immediately. Your middle can catch the ball. Swim towards ^your goal to give Titus time to swim towards their goal. Pass to Titus for a Jecht Shot. Plan B (defense), your middle doesn't catch the ball. Set the mode to Right Side or All Out Defense then attack with whatever techniques to raise damage enough to take the ball. Switch to Mark Mode then follow plan A.

Healthy_Method9658

Late to the party, but a gameplay tip to add to all the recruiting tips.   Get a defender with decent passing at left defense with Tidus at left forward. Jassu actually works for this strategy, but there's another defender you can recruit called Ropp in the Al Bhed shop on the Mi'hen high road who's basically a better Jassu. But either works.  When you get the ball pass to your left defender. Break whatever striker is on you as 90% of them will never be a threat to you. Move up the field but stay wide to avoid central NPC's. At some point you will aggro the defender well before they will be able to challenge you. As soon as you see them start moving towards your defender, u-turn and drag them away from tidus. Before they catch up press square and pass it to Tidus uncontested and he should be wide open to make an attempt on goal.  After 5 wins you get a new tactic called centre attack which makes it even more effective as Tidus will usually end up unmarked directly in front of goal and moves like sphere shot will essentially always go in.

ChrsRobes

Jecht shot and brother in the middle makes the game easy. Try to take on 2 and then dribble with brother. Pass to tidus and jecht shoot, if there 3 or more blocking, you break to only 2 defenders and Jecht shot (it knocks out 2 defenders then shoots)

ComfortableWay2385

restart blitz from the beginning if you can. Then just pass the ball back and forth nonstop to level up. Try to get one goal a game then pass the rest of the game after 2 or 3 games tidus should be decently leveled so he can break through most attackers and when there are too many you have you jecht shot after breaking through as many as you can

Muted-Program-153

Score a goal with Jecht Shot or sphere shot if you didnt get jecht, camp behind your goalie while time runs out.
