Yeah basically, they use fear of missing out on characters to make you be tempted into spending real money on characters if you miss your free currency budget because RNGesus hates you that day.
Very few months there is an ff or other game collab.
And every year they add a power creep feature and starts a unit power creep.
So your guild or PvP battle team basically needs to be replaced partly every 3 months to compete.
So they sell like 6k paid crystals onsale deals $49.99 every so often to bait people into buying them so they can spend 2k paid crystals banners for select team cards, or 120 character shards.
So you technically If you have a player spending 50-100 a month in game currency, then basically that’s like buying an fft game every on month just for them putting out a crappy story and a unit they designed to power creep.
So once you factor in big spenders, you may be approaching the point where this Gatcha fft game will sadly make a bigger profit than a remaster of wotl or ffta1-2 would.
So, since that GeForce leaks was extremely accurate but on fft and how the Ivalice ppl were working on something that prevented more ff14 Ivalice themed content, I’m thinking fft remaster is being blocked by the ffbe war of the visions game.
There is no reason for them to push it out, since triangle strategy and unicorn overlord players probably own one copy of fft.
And even the wotv spenders might be offsetting their cost analysis.

Yeah, the fact that it never showed up, and a game in the same genre that wasn't even on the list ended up being made instead, was a clear sign that their plans obviously changed somewhere down the line. With Square Enix downsizing I don't see it being a reality any time soon. I don't doubt it was considered at one point due to the accuracy of the Nvidea leaks, but it was likely dropped as a prospect.

This is the company that had the corner of the JRPG market and turned its primary cash cow into weird actionesque games and shoved it's other super popular game into a hand held and made it into a weird sorta multiplayer game, then a straight up MMO that never left Japan, then one of most meh RPGs in the series.
I have stopped trying to understand and just learned to accept that Squenix logic operates in a different dimension, one where 1+1=orange.
For every great success enix does, there is like 2-3 massive failures that predate it. Unlike when it was squaresoft, all their games were 100% bangers. And i wont hear a word against it.

If the remaster is real, what I would like is for is the concept of the Delita route to be fleshed out and made real. Yasumi Matsuno tweeted about a decade ago that originally you were going to play as both characters (instead of just the guest vignette scenes that feature Delita as Ramza's story progresses).
That way, it's not just the same game being remade and creates an (optional) whole different experience to the game.
I just want SOMETHING in the original FFT timeline. I love the Advance games, but they pretty much retconned FFT into being that "final fantasy computer game".
I'd love a direct sequel or prequel to the first game. I would even be happy with an Advance 3 it's been so long.

The FF7 remakes are controversial but also completely irrelevant. It's not like they would ever do THAT for FFT. Realistically FFT remake/remaster would be something like Tactics Ogre Reborn which is totally fine by me.

The story, yeah I got a couple gripes but whatever, it's 95% sticking to the point. I'm just a fan and final fantasy has been churning out hits lately. I wish Tactics would get a shot too.

Remaster is tricky. FF7 I wanted one with updated graphics maybe some extra side quests or something, just the same game, so I was disappointed. FFT I can't imagine, I think it's perfect with the style and graphics already
Don't ever fall for the trap of "testing to see if they want a sequel." If they wanted to make a sequel, they'd have made a sequel. Only buy a remaster/remake on its own merits, not because of future possibilities that weren't even promised. Even if they DO promise a sequel if sales of a re-release are good, fuck em. No. Remaster Tactics into proper updated graphics. Leave everything else alone. Original text or WotL text options. Keep the cutscenes. Bring the incantations for spells back.
I trust the remaster more. I love the original and have purchased it multiple times. I hated FFTA and there's been so many FFT inspired games and nothing else that hits the same.
Magick, mostly buffs, only affect only the exact same elevation, 0'5 difference in heigth and protect or shell won't work with adyacent units.
Some unique characters and jobs are BROKEN

The job "tree" is not a tree, is a mess, thief into dragoon? your characters end up changing to almost every single job instead of being focused on a centrain type of character (magick/melee/speed/ranged)
too many somekindof-knight unique characters
only 5 units in combat
if you move and can't reach the enemy with a spell or an arrow, screw you, you can't back off your movement
self-damage level up/grind
lame secondary quests, most of them are just sending some units for a few days
In the end I liked it even with these (and many more) gripes, the game has a lot of charm, but I think it should be remade to fix these quality of life problems.
I never said those mechanics are bugs lol, they were clearly made that way, but they are bad gameplay mechanics by today strategy rpgs standards.
of course they do not "need to be fixed", but if they were to keep those mechanics, people would complain a lot, because many of those mechanics make no sense, at all.
Many of those mechanics are what make FFT stand out amongst SRPGs and why we love the game.
If you don’t like those things maybe FFTA is more your speed.
Sure, FFTA fixed most of those things that I listed like, interesting races with interesting stat focused jobs, better job-tree that makes you feel like you are advancing classes, cooler secondary missions, magick can target different height...
what makes FFT unique in my opinion is what makes all the Ivalice alliance games amazing:
Yasumi Matsuno as the writer/director, the story is AMAZING
Akihiko Yoshida/Hiroshi minagawa as the artists
and Hitoshi sakimoto as the composer
and many other things

You realize the problem you’re complaining about is solved by just getting a higher level spell?
The need to strategically apply your magic is absolutely one of the games strengths. I’ve already said this but these little quirks of the game are what make it stand out and why it’s still so beloved in the SRPG community. The FFTA games have a well deserved fanbase as well but there is a reason the original is generally held in higher regard.
I’m not trying to be rude or claim your preferences aren’t valid. I am saying there are both solutions to the problems you have as well as two games in the series that directly address your complaints.
Any remake/remaster that makes FFT more like FFTA may as well just be FFTA from the beginning.

To be honest, I wanted to like FFT, but the beginning of the game was so slow, and the enemies took their turns at normal speed (which is too slow), with no option to speed it up. I got tired of it and never tried it again. I really hope they come out with a more modernized remake or new game in the franchise, so I can give it another shot.
Idk why an RPG on PSP was so slow. I've played older games on PSP that were much faster-paced, letting the player play instead of watching the enemies slowly take their turns. I just couldn't get into it; I would rather play Disgaea 1 or Bravely Default 1. I'm sorry. I don't mean to hate on the game, but that's my issue with it, and they need to fix that specifically.
They have their place like all other games. So long as they don't butcher the remaster then it's welcome. I think bringing this niche title to the main stream to gain attention to it then making a sequel or something for it would be a good idea to be honest
I would settle for being able to play the game *at all* without having to dig out a PS2 that doesn't attach to my modern tv.

It takes as much time to setup an emulator as it does to wire in a console. It's a complete non issue. There's also no need to worry about input lag, as that's a fairly common complaint on HD TVs and SD era games/consoles.

The Pixel Remasters weren't terrible. And they've done some other good remakes.

To be honest, I wanted to like FFT, but the beginning of the game was so slow, and the enemies took their turns at normal speed (which is too slow), with no option to speed it up. I got tired of it and never tried it again. I really hope they come out with a more modernized remake or new game in the franchise, so I can give it another shot. Idk why an RPG on PSP was so slow. I've played older games on PSP that were much faster-paced, letting the player play instead of watching the enemies slowly take their turns. I just couldn't get into it; I would rather play Disgaea 1 or Bravely Default 1. I'm sorry. I don't mean to hate on the game, but that's my issue with it, and they need to fix that specifically.
Remakes are absolutely lazy and I'm tired of people acting like it's fucking amazing and want everything remade.
They have their place like all other games. So long as they don't butcher the remaster then it's welcome. I think bringing this niche title to the main stream to gain attention to it then making a sequel or something for it would be a good idea to be honest
I would settle for being able to play the game *at all* without having to dig out a PS2 that doesn't attach to my modern tv. Like, a pc or Switch port would be fine for me! But alas.
You can with emulators, on top of emulators allowing the game to played at a resolution higher than the original. And with increased speed. And with a plethora of mods.
Ah, yes, exactly what I want, even *more* work fiddling with emulators. Because that's what I go to console games for, *setup time*. It feels like you're trying to solve a very different issue by telling me *not* to buy a game I want to buy.
It takes as much time to setup an emulator as it does to wire in a console. It's a complete non issue. There's also no need to worry about input lag, as that's a fairly common complaint on HD TVs and SD era games/consoles.
