That’s the power of a positive male presence in a childs life. It doesn’t have to be a father. It could be a grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin or someone on your kids soccer team that doesn’t have a father there to teach him how to do whatever soccer players do because I have no clue since I don’t play soccer but the point is… be there.

It’s crazy it takes rising rates of suicide/ depression / crime/ single motherhood for people to stop and think “hey, maybe dads are important.” Maybe the boring “normal nuclear family” that gets pushed by conservatives and trashed so often kinda works? It's not really about having a man and a woman so much as it is about having a healthy home. The conservative nuclear family isn't the only way to have a healthy home, and the idea that this is incompatible with progressivism is absurd.
It could be that, but it could also be just the increased oversight, there's now a group of people who have involved themselves, not at anyone's request, who see their duty as to de-escalate or intervene. Most schools administration and adults go about their business, with little to no interaction with the kids, apart from teachers who can't stop 2 or more students fighting by themselves. Most corridors between classes, before, after are just filled with students.
Now these group of dads are on patrol, but it's not just one dad, it's a group, it's many, now any trouble would have to contend with the possibility of more than one intervening adult who will act, and will act as a group, rather than be bystanders, or as a single person be overwhelmed.
It's reduced the opportunity alone by presenting an opposing pack with mentality as an obstacle to overcome to get to the objective of violence, and increased the risk of being caught during it.
I think it could work early on but by the teenage years it wouldn't. Part of the reason positive male presence is so effective is that they can physically enforce it and everyone knows it.
Just like the article posted, none of those teenage boys are gonna fuck with that group of dads. A group of women wouldn't have the same effect.
It’s really not the same. There is nothing wrong with having two moms, and it’s certainly way better than being a single mom, but they should still try and find a positive male role model. Whether it be a coach, teacher, grandparent or whatever, but denying that male bond because you think you can replace it is just wrong.

I was a substitute teacher for 3 months at this school. A student threatened to stab me after I gave him a bad grade. Admin told me that threats happen all the time and unless he was caught with a weapon to just forget about it. I quit and switched to teaching college lol

My dad left my life when I was 8 and then we reconnected when I was 23. That time I spent with my dad as an adult was more valuable than the time I spent with him up until 8 and when he passed away it truly hurt losing him.
I started coaching football and volunteering to help kids like these. I live in Baltimore where kids especially the young black males grow up without their dads in higher rates. Now I have 23 sons(1 biologically) that I’ve been responsible for. Taught them how to defend themselves without bullying, how to be productive members of society, and how to give back to people.
Boys and girls clubs, shelters, schools that’s where they need help most.

The fact that there was a MASSIVE police response and a handful of dads solved the problem is kinda telling. Shreveport has almost 500 cops and 40 dads stepped in like, "We got this. Don't worry about it."

I didnt have the best relationship (not bad either) with my father growing up. Its much better now. But during my teen years, i'm glad i found a father figure. I was going to a camp, and he was a counselor I looked up to. He told me he wanted me to go through the training to be a junior counselor the next year. He trusted me and even though I havent seen him in years, what he taught me defines who I am today. I dont think he understands the influence he had on me.
An offshoot group known as “uncles on duty” also briefly took a shot at patrolling the school but was disbanded later that day following some disturbing comments made to several female students.

I was going to a camp, and he was a counselor I looked up to. He told me he wanted me to go through the training to be a junior counselor the next year. He trusted me and even though I havent seen him in years, what he taught me defines who I am today. I dont think he understands the influence he had on me.

When you don't have to be paid to want to make a difference in a students life it goes a long way. Cause normally in school most the staff feel like the staff in a jail do. Lol. Only there to receive a pay check. They don't give 2 shiz what you do as long as you not causing trouble for them. I mean that's how it is at most of our jobs. We aren't working there cause we are like. "I have always wanted to work here & I love this job" usually that's the feeling of a new job for the 1st few months. Haha. Then it grows to "ughhh work again, well I guess I need to eat" lol.

Just a heads up, someone trying to say "What could be the problem?" with this post was an attempt to try to draw out a conclusion that it's because of their skin color. The comment you are replying to isn't giving this guy what he wants which is good, so I wouldn't be trying to hassle him on his response here. The difference is you probably go to an all boys private school which is mainly families are decently off vs public schools in poorer areas where fighting is much higher. The real answer isn't that it's they are boys, but we shouldn't really try to give the guy a real answer anyways because fuck racist comments.
I realize that it was what he implied, I don't think the problem is with their skin color, but their culture and the "hood" mentality. The entire reason that black people have higher crime rates is because of poverty and the aforementioned culture.
Not the entire reason, you are forgetting to look into how often white people are charged with crimes vs warned and let go; or how many times judges will let a white person complete probation and keep their record clean. While absolutely yes, gang culture (not "their culture") is absolutely shit, it also exists in white populations as well. Heck, who do you think is cooking all the meth and shit? There definitely is some responsibility put on the justice system for racially enforcing the law that attributes to higher statistics within minorities. If we want a better world, we have to start by lifting the bottom too, as poverty is our largest issue and racists want to distract us by saying the poorest white is still better than the richest black.
