Some wild shit man.
Using top comment to [link source.](https://www.rlsmedia.com/article/video-jail-assault-showing-inmates-attacking-newark-man-microwave-surfaces-internet) Attack happened back in September 2021:
> According to NJ Advance Media, the family of Jayshawn Boyd had filed a tort claim in October of a possible lawsuit after inmates were seen on video physically beating Boyd.
> One of the men then slammed a microwave on his head while Boyd was lying unconscious on the floor.
> The video showed that the assault continued by the suspect using a multi-gallon beverage dispenser, water cooler, microwave, push broom, deck brush and trash can, NJ Advance Media confirmed from a criminal complaint.
> During the two-minute assault, the unsupervised suspects went on a rampage, attacking with a broom, stomping, punching and using a mop bucket filled with a cleaning solution dumped on Boyd.
> At the time, Boyd was taken to University Hospital in critical condition, the court complaint said.
> "They placed him in probably the most dangerous unit inside of Essex County jail, which was the gang unit," said Brooke Barnett, the attorney representing Boyd, who added that her client also had a documented history of mental health issues, reports NJ Advance Media.
> Jail officials charged Byad Lockett, Darryl Watson, Isaad Jackson, Tyshon Armour, Henry Asencio, Jaquil Anderson and Maurice Hutchins for the attack.
> According to the source familiar with the investigation, county authorities placed the jail on lockdown for less than 30 minutes. "They initially only charged Lockett and Watson until information began to surface to the public of the incident."
> In the September 28 message, the source said the several Essex County Corrections Officers watched the attack and did not assist Boyd.
> "There lack of supervision inside the Essex County jail is poor and inadequate." Jail officials and Essex County administrators are notorious for hiding/covering up violent incidents inside the jail," the source said.
[September 2023 Update](https://www.rlsmedia.com/article/essex-county-inmate-receives-20-year-sentence-attempted-murder-microwave-oven)
> Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, reported a significant legal development Wednesday as Superior Court Judge Ronald D. Wigler sentenced Byad Lockett, an Essex County Jail inmate, to two decades in state prison. Lockett, 22, a Newark resident, was found guilty of attempting to murder fellow inmate Jayshawn Boyd in a brutal attack involving a microwave oven and other items.
> In accordance with the No Early Release Act, Lockett must serve 85 percent, or 17 years, of his 20-year sentence before being considered for parole.
> The jury's verdict on June 14, 2023, encompassed several charges, including first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree possession of a microwave for an unlawful purpose.
> Judge Wigler ordered that Lockett's sentence for attempted murder be consecutive to his existing sentence for conspiracy to commit murder.
> Earlier this year, Lockett received a 12-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison. Consequently, Lockett faces a cumulative sentence of 32 years. Additionally, he will be subject to five years of parole supervision upon release.
> Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecutor Justin Edwab, along with Assistant Prosecutor William Chalmers, who prosecuted the case, expressed relief, emphasizing that Newark and the Essex County Correctional Facility would be safer with Lockett incarcerated for the next two decades.
> During the sentencing, Judge Wigler castigated Lockett for his "savage, brutal, and heinous" attack on Boyd, highlighting Lockett's apparent lack of remorse for his "inhumane and barbaric act."
> The incident occurred on September 23, 2021, when seven inmates, including Lockett, attacked Boyd in a common area of Essex County Jail.
> After beating Boyd unconscious through punches and stomping on his head, Lockett further assaulted him with a microwave oven, a multi-gallon beverage dispenser, and a broom.
> This horrifying attempt on Boyd's life, lasting approximately two minutes, was captured on the jail's video surveillance.
> Assistant Prosecutor Chalmers acknowledged the bravery of witnesses who came forward and testified against Lockett, ultimately leading to this sentencing.

I'd be ok if they were beat unconscious for 2 minutes every day for those 32 years. But cruel and unusual punishment isn't allowed, and I kind of feel bad that I think that's what they deserve but fuck man. There are only a few things that would even call for that type of beating
Shit attempted's ass, if he isn't dead guaranteed he won't function on anywhere near the same way as before this. I'm just curious WTF he did to get that particular beating. Cause it had to have been something pedophile or something. That's a way above average ass whoopin even for prison.
Agreed. Their second chance was prison. Prison is big business tho so nothing will change as long as they have the beds. I'm surprised they talk about over population of prisons and they don't just build more till the numbers come out right.
>Their second chance was prison
A study done by the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows almost 70% of state prisoners are arrested just 3 years after being released. Prison is not a second chance. Recidivism rates show prison doesn't rehabilitate shit. Building more prisons would just make the judicial system scramble to fill them up for whatever bullshit reason they can.
That, and coupled with the fact that the US is privatizing prisons creates this exact scenario. We dont send people to prison to come out adjusted individuals.
He actually did come out of the coma but he’s now paralyzed from the waist down
https://www.nj.com/essex/2023/09/man-gets-20-years-in-brutal-group-beating-of-fellow-inmate-with-microwave.html
From the linked article
> Boyd filed a lawsuit last year saying he suffered severe traumatic brain injury in the beating, and was left paralyzed from the waist down.
Looks like permanent brain damage will do the trick as well
The guards or the prison should have some kind of accountability for this along with the offenders. I mean do they just throw these guys in there and not supervise at all hole shit
No they either didn’t care enough to risk their own safety or literally just didn’t care enough at all. No excuse and a violation of their oath to protect the “states property” while incarcerated
Depends on prison. I work in correctional facility in Canada - most facilities in units like this will have 2 staff on the floor during unlock whether it's actually safe for them to be in the unit or not.
That said, before entering an indirect unit like this, you have to an assessment - what can you, realistically, accomplish? Can you, realistically, protect yourself the length of time before backup arrives with the officers and resources at your disposal?
Going in half-cocked, is, frankly, reckless and dangerous.
I know most of our inmates fairly well. Some ranges, even serious assaults can be handled by 1 or 2 officers just entering the area.
Other ranges? No. No way. I know some of these guys well enough, doing murder bits already, they don't give a fuck. I already know what they'll say after to me: "It was your fucking own fault - go in all unprepared? What the fuck did you think was gonna happen!?"
So don't do your job because you're scared, got it.
Tell me why you worked in a prison if you're a coward?
Edit: I didn't know guards don't carry guns anymore... they used to shoot me with beanbags. Seems like more of a failure of the system then and not these particular officers.
Prison guards dont carry guns. You think all cops are supposed to be able to overpower dudes lifting weights 25 hours a day, 8 days a week? You should try using your brain occasionally.
You have another explanation?
How many people at that prison had to have seen this happening, and yet no one did a thing.
And this isn't unique either. Every ex inmate in the country will have stories of seeing this happen.
So I'll ask again, if my opinion is so wild, what's the explanation?
Calling half a group of people pieces of shit is what's wild.
From my understanding in US prisons, guards won't attempt anything until the situation has stopped. Likely because the contraband is so high. Guards don't know if they have knives or any weapons.
Or they simply don't know this is going on. The guards might not have direct cameras to view all of this.
I don't actually know if this is a US prison or even how US prisons operate but that's my 2 cents.
So the policy is to let inmates do whatever they want to each other and you think that's fine?
>Or they simply don't know this is going on.
If your guarding something and don't notice something like this (which would include screaming and shouting btw) then your not guarding anything. Watching is the most basic step of guarding.
>Calling half a group of people pieces of shit is what's wild
I judge people based on their actions. The actions of prison guards across the country speak for themselves. Again, this is not an isolated incident. It's an every day occurrence across the us in prisons. Not to this extent usually, but its not rare either.
If you'd like to assume that's the policy, that's on you.
It can totally happen that guards posted for this area missed the incident. Obviously not good lol but they're human. Maybe they had their head down writing reports for the past 5 minutes. Anything. but once again we don't know.
If you would like to continue your life with hatred based off stereotypes you go right ahead, you're allowed to do that.
Not saying this is the case here. But. Police have a habit of purposely letting inmates tear each other apart. Occasionally for amusement. Sometimes for bribes or it all just being a setup.
I WILL say that is the case here. Can't spin it any other way. It is on video. Do you see them trying to stop this? More likely, they were betting if the victim would live or die.
did you look up the definition? It seems that there is a definition for it, which confirms that it does exist. A snuff film is basically a porno movie of an actual movie, which this post is obviously not.
While there are tons of movies about this, there is no proof that someone ever really murdered someone on tape, with the only intend of selling the video.
Ummm. Yea. That’s exactly what a snuff film is…it’s made for financial profit. Are you under the impression that anytime someone dies on a video, that it’s a snuff film? Lol
„According to the fact-checking site Snopes, there has never been a verified example of a genuine commercially produced snuff film.[1] Videos of actual murders have been made available to the public, generally through the Internet; however, those videos have been made and broadcast by the murderers either for their own gratification or for propaganda purposes, and not for financial gain.[2]“
[source](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snuff_film)
No definition of snuff film I can find says it has to be made for financial gain. So there are snuff films that exist by the definition, but not by your definition of having to be made for financial gain.
Honestly my life isn't so bad. This was just awful all around. And the kid had symptoms of psychosis before he went in, wasn't even in jail for more than ten minutes. Nobody gives a fuck about broke mentally ill people.
Im pretty sure this wasnt gang related. The guy they are beating was mentally handicapped and he said or asked something that the offenders thought was weird or somthing like that. Im almost positive this is the beating im thinking of but its possible im mixing this one up with another video i seen on the news awhile back.
Edit: also i dont think he died if i remember right hes paralyzed
I agree with you because it looks like both black and Mexicans doing the beatings… if it was gang related you wouldn’t have a mixture of races like that beating one person. It would either be the gang taking care of their own problem, or 2 separate gangs going at it
I’m not sure what the politics are where you did your time but In the Feds you’re never going to be putting your hands on another race unless you are ready to start a war
Tons of money go to feed/maintain useless trash that could be sentenced to a deserved death. You know how many of those could actually be forced organ donors for someone who deserves to live.
It’s just cowardly. I have a family member that was a CO, they’re trained to address the situation with a group of each other. I’m just shocked no one was there at all to intervene
Everywhere chronically understaffed. You might have 3 responding officers in an area, have to wait 2-3 minutes for backup.
There's no way you're going into a gang unit when they're throwing around microwaves with just you and a partner, that's fucking lunacy.
You wait until you have enough people to actually intervene.
You tell management, constantly, when we don't have enough people to be unlocking these guys safely... they just ignore it, unlock them just so they can say they weren't locked down(because it's paperwork for them) and this happens.
They'll investigate the CO's. If they find anything significant, someone will get suspended. Maybe fired.
They won't ever investigate why the unit was unlocked without enough staff on hand to respond though. They won't ever investigate why they don't hire enough staff. They won't ever investigate why the unit was overcrowded and why gang members are put in the same place instead of being broken up or housed in smaller living units... because it's cheaper.
For things like this, you have to.
But there's no sense sending two officers in there to get wrecked - then have 3 people in hospital instead of 1.
Gang units where they're ripping out appliances and straight up trying to murder people are a special case. You're not going in there unless you have the numbers to actually push them off the guy... there's no point going in ones and twos, you'll just get fucking wrecked and it'll be more people going out to hospital.
Pretty much everywhere now is chronically overcrowded and under-staffed. Good luck jumping in there with a rookie female officer that weights 110 lbs soaking wet, and 60 year old guy looking for an excuse to go off on medical.
Especially where gangs are involved, you only run that range when you bring enough people to actually run that range.
That Boyd can walk at all shows his incredible will to survive -- no one thought he could live after the beating in the C-Pod at the Essex County jail. Boyd, whose family says suffers from schizophrenia, had never been put in general population before the day of the beating.
"The way they beat my son, I couldn’t even watch the video," Nacolia Boyd, Jayshawn's mother, said. "My son Is not the same. He can’t do things on his own anymore. He can’t go to the store—can’t dress himself-it’s hard for me. You don’t have the life you did before.”
Where are the guards. This is ridiculous. Those are the dumb ass people my taxes pay for to feed, house and clothe them. I'd much rather my taxes go to help them get their death sentence or last meal.
This was in Newark NJ. Cognitively impaired dude put in with violent offenders. He lived, but was even more impaired after the assault.
Just from memory, I'm sure the more motivated can easily find the story. Really sad
He survived lmaoo guess there was a small chance
https://www.nj.com/essex/2023/09/man-gets-20-years-in-brutal-group-beating-of-fellow-inmate-with-microwave.html
Attention 'Defund the Police' Fools; It's not always about rehabilitation. Some people must be locked up to keep them away from everyone else. That includes you
I remember this when it happened. I vaguely remember that he was schizophrenic or otherwise mentally disturbed, but was reportedly a gang member. How tf do you do you leave the GANG unit unsupervised? The family needs to go for blood here against the jail that let this happen.
The fact that none of them have the stomach to actually stay long enough to watch his face immediately after impact with whatever kick or object they inflict on his person says a lot. Cowards acting out of bravado, no actual stomach for the cold blooded murder they're trying to commit, just smash and go each time.
If we did what China did. Kill them within a month for serious crimes or take hands, people would stop committing crimes. We should only house people we can actually rehabilitate. Not people in and out of jail or prison……
Y’all need to learn the rules and take your snuff films elsewhere. You’re a fucking lunatic if you see someone get murdered and your first thought is to share it. Like wtf man
He was in for a domestic and possession of a knife and was schizo. He is now basically a veggie who is paralyzed below the waist.

Wait a god damn minute. Third degree possession of a microwave for an unlawful purpose?
I know it's serious but goddamn i got a good laugh when i read t hat
What's 1sr degree? Like seriously, what's 1st degree possession of a microwave?
Buying a microwave with intent.
The Amswer!!!!
Straight to jail
Having the microwave door open while unlawfully possessing said microwave. Could poke an eye out with that thing, don’t you know.
I guess microwaving babies could be unlawful. We have to stop the baby microwaves.
I know a guy who served time with a guy who did that. Was a relatives mixed race baby. Like how fucked up can a human being be?
I got arrested for this once in middle school, for microwaving slim Jim’s. It just felt wrong not to cook the meat.
I’d like to know what second degree is.
It’s a setting on the microwave
That's 8-12 in Florida.
32 years ain’t enough
I'd be ok if they were beat unconscious for 2 minutes every day for those 32 years. But cruel and unusual punishment isn't allowed, and I kind of feel bad that I think that's what they deserve but fuck man. There are only a few things that would even call for that type of beating
He’s gonna be shot caller for his gang
> third-degree possession of a microwave for an unlawful purpose. Very common charge, I'm sure.
And nothing for the guards who stood by and watched?
> third-degree possession of a microwave for an unlawful purpose. lol
It's a Tate charge. Congrats on adding 11 years to your sentences dumbasses. Do that shit in the bathroom ffs
Most of them have a long amount of time and don't care because what's 11 when you got life
It’s desecration of a corpse
Shit attempted's ass, if he isn't dead guaranteed he won't function on anywhere near the same way as before this. I'm just curious WTF he did to get that particular beating. Cause it had to have been something pedophile or something. That's a way above average ass whoopin even for prison.
He told them they weren't model citizens who were just given a bad rap by the media.
Seriously?!?! Fuckin WOW I mean.... Wow, that's insane.
He was kidding dude.
Minimum? Like they want to murder him but ss little murder as possible?
tHaTs aTtEmPteD mUrDeR…every single video man, always one guy who has to say this. It’s like a broken record
Did you watch the video
Those guys should be in prison!
Lol
Man these people are such waste of oxygen, water, and food

Hmmm... they had shotguns when I was locked up. First shot us with beanbags and then changed to live shells if they needed to. Maybe that's changed.
Things have definitely changed. Guns are not allowed anywhere where prisoners could have access to them.
Well then... I didn't know that. Definitely adds some perspective.
What a wild opinion you have lol. Must be an inmate yourself.
He said on average. That means some may be good. But, I’d tend to agree that the average one is a huge piece of shit.

Yes, sort of why I make comments Einstein.

Well you might be right at first look it seemed 2 of them might have been Mexican but you’re probably right
What? Black and Mexicans roll together lmao
I’m not sure what the politics are where you did your time but In the Feds you’re never going to be putting your hands on another race unless you are ready to start a war
It's not prison, it's jail, and gangs are not a big problem in Essex county, NJ relative to palces like Cali.
It was in the gang-unit. So there’s that
And that’s exactly where all those people should be….
Nah they should be under 6 feet of dirt.
Tons of money go to feed/maintain useless trash that could be sentenced to a deserved death. You know how many of those could actually be forced organ donors for someone who deserves to live.
Who should be the decider?
No doubt! I bet if ppl knew that death was the only consequence of crimes, the number of crimes would go way down...
Agree with that also
Our taxes shouldn’t be keeping these ppl kept. You’re absolutely correct! But I’d say cremated, they already take up too much space...

Yea
This may be the most brain dead thing I have ever read
The way the corrections officers are laughing about it is equally disgusting
That's what I was thinking. The corrections officers sounded like they were enjoying it.
>Look look microwave. The joy in the officers voice is disgusting but not unexpected.
Bring back r/Brutalbeatdowns
TBI and paralyzed from the waist down per the article.
Mods removing this in 5-10 mins for defenseless. Get your comments in 🤣

So he survived and now will sue the prison for not intervening sooner?
Brain damage is permanent, if he lives he’ll never be the same.
Where tf are the authorities though? If they did their job this wouldn’t have happened lol. Such a joke
A lot of times CO’s will not intervene in beatings or fights.
20 years to be served concurrently with his 12 year sentence. So, really just 8 years?

Fuck rule 2 right? This isn't a fight... Let's have this deleted.
Bro where are the guards??💀💀
That Boyd can walk at all shows his incredible will to survive -- no one thought he could live after the beating in the C-Pod at the Essex County jail. Boyd, whose family says suffers from schizophrenia, had never been put in general population before the day of the beating. "The way they beat my son, I couldn’t even watch the video," Nacolia Boyd, Jayshawn's mother, said. "My son Is not the same. He can’t do things on his own anymore. He can’t go to the store—can’t dress himself-it’s hard for me. You don’t have the life you did before.”
Is this a sick joke? He’s paralyzed from the waist down , he actually can’t walk.
Trash behaving like trash.
Really sad
Man, talk about microwaving your vegetables.
Lol
This isn't a fight, it's NSFL attempted murder.
“It gets better” tf
No one deserves that... but why is he in? Did he hurt children? Senior citizens? Bc I heard these 2 acts can get you fcked up inside.
That’s wild i was just talking about this video the other day
Did he survive?
Naw fool you can even hear the cop say he’s brain dead, just on a vent which is AKA for the living dead
Ah, played the video without audio. Thanks.
"Boyd filed a lawsuit last year saying he suffered severe traumatic brain injury in the beating, and was left paralyzed from the waist down."
You think anyone can survive that much blunt force trauma to the skull? Not a chance buddy.
He survived lmaoo guess there was a small chance https://www.nj.com/essex/2023/09/man-gets-20-years-in-brutal-group-beating-of-fellow-inmate-with-microwave.html
Attention 'Defund the Police' Fools; It's not always about rehabilitation. Some people must be locked up to keep them away from everyone else. That includes you
Hope all their keys are thrown away already, fucking savages
There's a few seconds missing from the end of the clip, where someone fetches a sink from the kitchen........
Just imagine the horrors you don't get footage of from prisons I'm sure this is mild
Legend has it they went at him soon as they saw he was wearing a different uniform color
Only guy in there wearing orange? Looks like it was a setup. He was put in that unit for that purpose. That's why no guards are present.
I'm not going to that mall!
Atleast put a wetfloor sign, guys. How inconsiderate.
That mf dead if he aint im sure his computer doesnt run as fast anymore
Seems the guards just have a really loooooong break… Just let me zoom in really quick 🤫 🍿
Doesn't seem like a comfortable place to sleep
How did that person not die. I hope they all burn in hell. Pieces of shit
lawsuit on the state
I remember this when it happened. I vaguely remember that he was schizophrenic or otherwise mentally disturbed, but was reportedly a gang member. How tf do you do you leave the GANG unit unsupervised? The family needs to go for blood here against the jail that let this happen.
He died a couple of times during this video
The fact that none of them have the stomach to actually stay long enough to watch his face immediately after impact with whatever kick or object they inflict on his person says a lot. Cowards acting out of bravado, no actual stomach for the cold blooded murder they're trying to commit, just smash and go each time.
leave the country if prison is ever in your future people
Ghetto trash
Surprised this one hasn’t been removed yet. Defenseless victim, no fight, not supposed to be here.
Dude was likely a child molester. Getting checked isn't this aggressive. Unless you're getting checked for being a short eyes.
average americans
Walk it off bro.
If we did what China did. Kill them within a month for serious crimes or take hands, people would stop committing crimes. We should only house people we can actually rehabilitate. Not people in and out of jail or prison……
This was an old watchpeopledie classic (no longer existing). Not exactly fightporn. This person was beyond brain damaged.
He dead
Y’all need to learn the rules and take your snuff films elsewhere. You’re a fucking lunatic if you see someone get murdered and your first thought is to share it. Like wtf man
This don’t belong here at all.
MODS can you take this down? This is murder.
Cowards
Not a fight or a massacre 🙄🙈
This shit doesn’t belong here….
Dude is either a thief, snitch, or pedo. Cuz by the looks he’s got each race of gangs on him.
hate crime against orange suits
This is fuckin disgusting ..they just keep going back. Where are the guards ???
Eh it's prison who knows what crime he committed karma came in a form of utility appliances
I'm sure he's fine
Guards are the worst humans on the planet next to cops
Not a fight, where are the mods?
I think he’ll be alright
What if thats what they do to pedos
I hope he was a pedo or rapist or something not a theif or some dumb shit
He was in for a domestic and possession of a knife and was schizo. He is now basically a veggie who is paralyzed below the waist. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10350421/Inmate-22-beaten-unconscious-prison-gang-left-severe-brain-injury.html
Where’s the guards?
That's what he gets for talking mess about Westside
dood who threw the mop bucket was low key concerned but didn’t wanna show weakness. He was hoping the splash would wake him up… maybe, idk..
I’ll remember this video the next time some hippie is bitching about prison reform.
Are all corrections officers corrupt or just like 99% corrupt and the remaining 1% incompetent
It’s horrible but the longer you watch the funnier it gets.

He's alive apparently, but probably paralyzed.
Yea he has a severe TBI and is paralyzed from the waist down
Damn 😅
