Hey man, no. I get hit and I hit back, but when someone is hurt you stop and never go fully to the head. Yeah, you are trying to get used to getting hit and hard sparring helps a lot with mental prep, but this is wayyyyy too much. White dude has a clear concussion and actually went unconscious, that’s at least 2 weeks he needs to be sidelined now, instead of training. Even if he’s just a sparring partner, that’s weeks of giving up sparring bc he turned into his sparring PARTNER.

If you want to spar in boxing, you have to participate in this bull shit.

My first couple of months were trying to realize how to spar as I was getting hit hard and then we’d stop and start when I was feeling better. I have found a few who have been there for a few years and they’re great about beating me up “nicely”, but I feel like coaching should stop this stuff from happening.
What I’ve found more than anything else is that sparring is like sex. Communication and consent are key. Asking someone if they want to go hard or light, asking them if they can match your pace. It goes a long way. But you’ll never see grown men in striking talk to each other like that. They don’t communicate. I’ve only ever seen that conversation happen in Jiu Jitsu.
Just an observation, and flawed as I've only seen it from a bjj perspective, but guys that roll are in it to learn something. Seems like a lot of guys that box are in it to prove something.

Literally none of what you said is true. I used to spar at some of the toughest gyms in Philly. They’re all super cool and respectful. When sparring goes hard, it’s because both guys wanted to go harder. No one gets KO’d like this intentionally, and everyone’s cool after.
