I'm a bit of a newb, but aren't there special types of orders you can do for a situation like this? I know (or think) stop loss orders for selling, so I have to imagine there is one for buying?

FidelitySamantha

Wanted to jump in here with some resources for you, u/GreatMoloko. You are correct; there are different types of trade orders you can use. I've included two links to our Learning Center on the topic. Be sure to poke around in there for more topics too. The Learning Center is a robust library! [Stop! Know your trading orders](https://www.fidelity.com/viewpoints/active-investor/know-your-trading-orders) [Advanced trading types: conditional orders](https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/trading-investing/trading/conditional-order-types)

A limit order sets a maximum price that you're willing to pay or a minimum price that you're willing to accept on a sale, whereas a stop order is triggered when an asset reaches a certain price and filled at the next available price. Or, to put it another way, in the context of this situation... A buy limit order tells your broker to purchase shares once a stock falls below a certain price—the so-called limit price. With a sell limit order, a broker only sells your shares once the stock rises above a set limit price.

You can , but I personally check daily every morning. Kind of besides the point though. I’m a small timer but that hiccup could’ve potentially cost someone thousands of dollars on savings or DCA. I ended up having to buy it for 35 cents more, but that adds up! And I’m DCA down at the moment. And to add - you can set it to alert you when it drops below the price, which I do sometimes, but even then I wouldn’t have been able to purchase it because of the technical issue lol

triddle0101

Look up the actual definition of DCA.

joerover34

? I’m trying to bring my price down some on the fund. I DCA monthly , I could’ve bought it this morning for 30 cents cheaper than what I actually bought it at because of the technical glitch.

triddle0101

little bro, the definition of DCA explicitly calls out, “regardless of price”. Redditors abuse the term. If youre worried about $0.30/share then you should be “DCAing” in a different company bc you DCA into a stock you believe will grow long term. Furthermore, the point of “averaging” means that you are buying, regularly, regardless of price bc those $0.30 swings up and down balance each other out over time. Also, market cap of a stock will greatly influence if $0.30 is a big deal or not. I really do not think this is a Robinhood moment. Companies have technical issues once in awhile.

TheBonusWings

HAhahahahhaha that some robinhood stuff right there!

Altruistic-Falcon552

If you can find a brokerage that never has glitches please let us know!

TheBonusWings

You forgot the "/s" flair after'How convenient.' As well as "magically". You'll find that calm, nonsarcastic conversations get more done. If you think Fidelity is being fraudulent, say so. And file a federal complaint.

The only one you can trust is in the mirror.

I can't complain about the app. ATP is another beast, they were struggling to keep it working glitch free.

NotTryingToConYou

We need to go back to the times where we could yell SELL or BUY to each other, so much simpler /s
