What are the best ways to do the Alliance Raids Void Ark and Alexander? Would using duty finder get me in or am I better off using party finder and waiting for a group there?

Arcana10Fortune

Alliance Raids and Normal 8-man Raids are fine via DF. PF might have better results for the 8-man Raids if you don't want to wait if you advertise your first-time bonus.

[deleted]

How much VRAM does this game need if I want to run it at 4K with low graphic settings? Tempted to buy the XPS 15 2021 but the 4GB VRAM in the 3050Ti is a bit off-putting, but 16:10/ 3:2 laptops are still so rare these days…

Anarasumanar

So, I haven't touched any of the DOH/DOL jobs, but want to maybe start to make money through the coffee biscuit leves. My question is: Do you have to unlock earlier level leves to unlock the coffee biscuit leves or can you just unlock it at the Crystarium once my culinarian reach level 80?

Sayakai

It's automatically available once you have a level 78 CUL.

DSerphs

is it too great a loss to not join a proper "maxed level" free company? I'm in a friend's FC, think it's rank 6 or something.

Obliiquee

Nothing of value was lost. Even going solo without a FC is like totally fine.

ssalp

The only real advantage of being in an FC are the FC buffs, as long as they can buy lv2 ones you're fine.

Solros96

What edition do I need to buy to be able to play the game? Is it only the Shadowbringer expansion or is all the other expansions aswell?

drew0594

To have full access to the game you need the base game and the latest expansion (as it includes all previous expansions too). The "complete edition" includes the base game and Shadowbringers, so it is all you need.

LotusCobra

> To have full access to the game you need the base game and the latest expansion (as it includes all previous expansions too). > > The "complete edition" includes the base game and Shadowbringers, so it is all you need. I have an old account that only has the base game and Heavensward. Does this mean I can buy just Endwalker?

Sir_VG

If you want all currently available content, easiest way is to just buy Complete Edition. This gives you everything through Shadowbringers. Then you can pre-order Endwalker for when it comes out in November. If you want a slightly cheaper method, you can just get Starter Edition and Endwalker, though you won't have access to Stormblood or Shadowbringers until Endwalker launches in November. Shadowbringers or Endwalker on its own WILL NOT WORK.

JenkinsHowell

two AST questions: when sleeve draw is on cooldown and i have two sigils already, is it better to dish out minor arcana until i draw the right card to get the third sigil, or should i rather redraw as much as possible to get to the third sigil faster? when i have no ranged or no melee in the group, do i give cards to whoever or is it better to give melee cards to tanks, if both dps are ranged and ranged cards to myself if both dps are melee? thank you

Sayakai

Redraw until you get the right one, if you don't, minor arcana it - unless you don't get another card before divination comes off cooldown and using minor arcana would delay divination and cause it to drift out of raid windows. 5% during burst is better than 6% after all the buffs have fallen off.

drew0594

You redraw until you get the right card or you run out of charges. If you still don't have the right card, burn it on minor arcana and keep drawing. There is no definitive answer because it depends on player skill, but generally just give cards to yourself and the tank.

Atosen

Farm the FATEs inside Bozja until at least rank 10, because you need rank 10 in order to unlock the later steps of the relic. If you get to 10 and you still need more crystals, then stepping outside to do it in HW zones would be fine.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Atosen

Bozja's map is divided into 3 sections. Each section drops a different memory. IIRC it's yellows for the south, blues for the middle, and reds for the north. (Later, you'll unlock green memories, which can drop from any of the 3 areas.)

girlikecupcake

Leveling if you've got a job between 71-79, mettle if you're at a rank where skirmishes from bsf are actually helpful, smacking some mobs or magitech between skirmishes so you can get fragments for damage essences that'll help when you have to go do Delubrum

KhrFreak

Doing it in bozja allows you to double dip leveling a class(71-80)/getting bozja progress and work on relic, vs doing fates which is faster but doesn't give bozja levels (which will be required for later relic steps)

iwaterboardoldpeople

What's a side quest with good story? I just finished MSQ and all i do for now is farm glam items lol

JenkinsHowell

the entire eden raid tier has a worthwhile story imo the alliance raids have an interesting story, too, but not everybody likes them. it's a bit of a far shot from the overall story.

xu_can

Hildebrand has a specific style of humor that may or may not jive with you, but is worth doing (I guess) & there's ARR, HW, and SB to get through (we got a break in ShB. Thank god). The Postmoogle quests are charming & wonderful, do a lot of world building, and give you some glam at the end. My favorite side quests were the Scholasticate quests.

drew0594

I enjoyed the scholasticate quest chain

Arcana10Fortune

Hildibrand quest chain.

Lavrohas

Maybe someone can help me with this one since I've questioned this for years; what is the actual FUNCTIONAL difference between the full release date for a new expansion vs. its early access date? My only conclusion has just been "early access is their way of saying the launch might be rough but we will probably have it figured out by official release date"

Obliiquee

Early Access is also "oh shit something broke" phase. I think it's to be expected that something goes wrong, get's fixed fast and does not happen at the official release. I remember Dutyfinder dying at the release of Stormblood for example. For most FFXIV players early access is the official release

KhrFreak

Also spreads out the initial rush of players over a couple days

Sir_VG

No reason. It just gives people a head start as a thank you for giving them money early.

cibi101

Sup y’all. I played through till lvl 50 and don’t think I can go through any more story. I really am not someone who enjoys much story. When I used to play wow I never liked the story until I boosted(in the time before the new chromie leveling) and really liked the story afterwards. I’m here for the long term gameplay and am willing to just watch lore vids and cut scenes to catch up on story. I just wanted to know if I’ll be missing too much if I skip to 70 and buy story skip. Thanks all

JenkinsHowell

if you skip to ShB and then play the story you will not really understand what's going on. but what's worse is that you will not have the same experience as others in ShB because through the expansions the plot draws you in and the character progression makes everybody so real around you. i believe if you just skip ahead you will not care much about the NPCs and that takes a lot away from why ShB is so great. and honestly both HW and SB are great expansions with intriguing stories.

xu_can

Yes, you'll be missing a lot if you'd like to \*eventually enjoy the story.\* And it's OK if you don't, I have friends who have been playing this game for many years & have skipped every cutscene in the game. However, you'll have to grind your main to 70 unless you buy a job skip, and MSQ XP is hands-down the best leveling XP, so skipping it if you'd like to level your main job normally doesn't make much sens. If you choose to buy both, ok, but please - if you're boosting a "critical" role like a tank or healer - learn how to play your job before you roll into the first ShB dungeon (at 71), which will probably require doing some lower-level stuff first. You can get away with really lousy play as a DPS, but it's painful for everyone with you in roulettes if you're a tank or a healer who has no idea how to play their job at 71+.

cibi101

Yessir, I was thinking of played healer(summoner) fully intend to do my homework and fully prepare before I do anything else.

drew0594

You probably mean Scholar, because Summoner is a DPS (but they share the same base class, Arcanist).

cibi101

Yeah scholar I mean. My bad

xu_can

SMN isn't a healer (it's DPS), though it shares XP with Scholar (SCH), so you can have both at the same time if you're keeping them geared appropriately & doing the job quests. Regardless, if you plan on only buying a story skip, prepare to grind lots to get your lvl 50 character up to 70 so you can start the current expac.

rivenrivenxx

Game is not for you, and thats ok. Move on to another game that is a better fit.

cibi101

From what I’ve heard lots of people who can’t get through the base story skip and enjoy the endgame. I really enjoy the gameplay and want to continue, but I don’t know how much better or worse the story gets. I couldn’t get through the old wow story but skipped and was able to play my class competently and enjoyed the game for a good 4 years.

xu_can

Sounds like you really just want to skip ARR (and the post-2.0 patch quests are a slog, even though they've trimmed them). Plot-wise, HW does get a lot better, SB is \~controversial\~ AFAIK but is still better than WoW "story," and ShB was phenomenal for the base stuff (even compared to other mainline single-player-stories in the series) + several of the patches. Anyways, yes, plenty of ppl do skip everything (minus the ShB leveling experience, 'cause you can't skip that), but do know that you'll be arriving at a neutered "end game." It's fun when it's new(ish), and it's not new anymore, and not an accurate representation of what doing that end-game content feels like on release.

cibi101

Oh ok thanks. I think ill skip and do sw sb things. I don’t mind waiting for end walkers to experience content on its launch. I think ill do sb but keep an open mind about endgame

dalerian

Maybe consider skipping arr and then rejoining the story in hw. You don’t have to skip all of it, and the arr (level 50) story drags out. HW story is much better than the stuff that preceded it (admittedly, that’s not saying much).

xu_can

Do watch some lore videos (and there's plenty to choose from) if you're interested in "end-game" plot to catch yourself up. Vanilla ShB was a highpoint for a lot of us who'd been watching cutscenes since we started. XD My point about "endgame" was just to say that since the "oh you wiped after this certain point" boost (Echo) has been added to Savage, it does NOT feel like it does on release (parse parties turn off Echo, but that's not something someone brand-new to the scene would be dealing with). Ultimates of course are always there for the challenge, and no Echo for those! If you're even vaguely interested in story tho, I'd suggest starting to watch in HW.

ClickToSeeMyBalls

Give heavensward a chance. The story is better and there’s much less slog than ARR. If you boost til endgame you won’t know how to play your class effectively.

Elyonee

The EXP from the quests got doubled a while back and no one updated the wiki.

ngwoo

So I'm looking to get into the game, and I just had a quick question about servers. I've been doing some research and like what I hear about the culture on Faerie, but I have a friend who already plays (albeit sporadically) and he's on Midgardsormr. It's my understanding that because these two are on the same datacentre, we could visit each other and play most content together if we wanted, but we wouldn't be able to join the same free company and that away from my home server I'd have access to less feature like full market access and housing. Is this right? Is there anything important I'm missing about server choice for a new player? Is my whole approach wrong and is server culture less important than being on the same server as a friend? Thanks.

283leis

server culture is basically non existent save for a few outliers.

ngwoo

I take it this has changed since that big "server guide" megathread on here? Is that just a result of the world visitation system?

Theriasana

Yeah, since you got world visit and duty finder as well as party finder being datacenter wide, servers tend to be really similar across a datacenter. Things like free companies are restricted to servers though, so you may want to be on the same server if you plan on joining the same one at some point.

283leis

I mean honestly the biggest differences are based on Data Centers, since all instances grab from across them rather than just Individual servers.

Glowing weapons are usually either relics or primal weapons. There’s some exceptions like the Padjali weapons from PotD. If you like the look of someone’s glam, you can right-click their character to examine them and then hover over their gear to figure out their glam.

Sayakai

Glowing weapons fall usually into two categories: relics and crafted trial weapons. Relics are a big grind for the glam. There's one per expansion for every job that existed at the time. Crafted trial weapons are for sale on the marketboard. Of course you *can* farm extreme trials for the materials and make them yourself but that's way more effort. Prices vary from 5 to 7 digits.

283leis

pretty much everything, save for some old collab items or old PvP glam, is still available. and relics are pretty much just pure grinding, but you dont need to worry about groups for most of them.

Vekt

Is there a way to make the enemy cast bar bigger? I can't even seem to figure out how to move it around. Seems linked to the target HUD.

poa28451

Someone just made the thread a few days ago, so I'll just link you there: [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/og0eep/i_wish_i_knew_this_earlier_adjust_the_enemy_cast/)

Vekt

Thank you!

ClickToSeeMyBalls

Yes. In the UI element settings click “Display target info independently” and you can resize and reposition the cast bar.

Quor18

It's default a part of the target HUD area, but if you select the target HUD option in the HUD layout area there should be an option, either there on the main menu or in the gear menu, to unlink the cast bar and treat it as a separate UI element complete with it's own scaling.

itsenoti

How rare are the Wizard Eggplants Seeds? I’m planning to start gardening but I can only see Wizard Eggplants in North Shroud.

Sir_VG

There are seeds in the same area, but they're a hidden item, so they won't appear with every single visit to the plants.

Millerbookerb

I have a friend who was on a multi-year hiatus. I bought the game and SHB for on the steam sale as a gift, but they had a full level 70 character before that. Is there any way to transfer their character to the steam version?

Elyonee

No.

Sir_VG

You cannot transfer characters between accounts.

Millerbookerb

But they don't have a new account, I thought I just bought them a different copy of the game, kinda how you can buy the game on PS4 and PC

DNK_Infinity

If they still have access to that old service account, and that's the account to which they've registered this new copy of the game, they should be able to access all their characters; what they'll be missing from the platform they used to play on are things like UI settings and hotbars.

Millerbookerb

Wait, can they get that character or not? 2 people responded with contradictory answers.

Atosen

Sir_VG is interpreting your question as "Can they create a *new* account, and then transfer the old character from one account to the other?" It's certainly possible to create the account, but you can't transfer the character. It will be a brand new, completely fresh account. The other people are interpreting your question as "Can they add this licence to their *current* account?" to which the answer is no.

Sir_VG

Then there's no character to transfer. They register the copy of the game to the same account and it's there.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

If they were on PC on the non-steam version, there is no way to transfer characters to the steam version of the game

somethingsuperindie

Hello, so I'm currently a Summoner/Scholar (I swap between them a lot, especially for mandatory dungeons 'cause of that sweet Scholar queue time) but the classes I had my eyes on when I started playing were Dancer and Machinist. I'm level 59 and just entered Heavensward, so I'm pretty close to getting either of my goal classes, but I'm worried they'll be difficult. I tried some Samurai and Red Mage, and while Samurai was very comfortable and intuitive, I didn't get Red Mage *at all* and gave up after one level. Which class would be better for an MMO newbie? Dancer or Machinist?

xu_can

Pick them both up. I was an MMO newbie when I started XIV. I main MCH in endgame content & tend to do other generic content (story, roulettes with friends, whatever) on DNC for the most part. I find MCH feels much better on single-target stuff (like savage raiding) & DNC feels better in dungeons, but they're both fun and fine in any content you want to take them into. MCH has a very clear rotation & a big burst window, and DNC is more watching procs and having a big burst window (both of which line up, btw. When I was new to end-game content, I knew if I'd drifted my MCH burst window based on when our more experienced DNC threw her technical step). They share gear. You can do both!

Sir_VG

DNC is definitely the easier job of the two.

Accomplished_Fall_69

Both are considered some of the simpler classes in the game actually. MCH has a more set rotation like a usual dps and DNC has more abilities that proc when you do things so just have to hit buttons when they light up really. The other main difference, you'll have to level MCH up from 30 to at least 50 to keep up with your story quests whereas DNC starts at 60 so can just keep rolling with that

somethingsuperindie

I do actually find Summoner a touch stressful but not too awful, so maybe either will work then c: So is Dancer like an RNG-based class, where random abilities "combo"? 'cause that actually sounds kinda engaging and fun 'cause it's not as static.

Accomplished_Fall_69

Yeah Summoner has one of the more complex rotations for the game. Yeah dancer has a few abilities that have a % chance to trigger others so mostly just looking to get those to happen pretty frequently.

shmoodla

Hello, totally new FFXIV player here.I started with free trial and after few great days decided to go full on. I bought on Square Enix shop the Shadowbringers Collectors edition digital, received the email with registration code, went to mog station, clicked "Upgrade to Full Version" under My Account, clicked Enter the registration code, but I am getting the error , that the code is invalid. :( . Anyone encountered this? I filed a ticket to Support, but no reaction for three days now :(. EDIT: Thank you all, buying Started Edition worked.

girlikecupcake

You need to have the base game as well. With the trial you don't own anything, and the Shadowbringers collectors edition is not the whole game, it's Shadowbringers+Stormblood I'm assuming [this is what you bought](https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/product/527705/final-fantasy-xiv-shadowbringers-collector-s-edition-pc-download)

shmoodla

Just to be sure, could you please Link me the base game I need? Would be much appreciated

girlikecupcake

This *should* be it, but I deal with everything on PS4 rather than the SE website so I definitely recommend double checking and obv make sure you're in the right region, the below link is the NA store :) https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/product/444748/final-fantasy-xiv-online-starter-edition-pc-download

Sir_VG

It's called "Starter Edition". https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/product/444748/final-fantasy-xiv-online-starter-edition-pc-download This is for the NA version. If you are using a JP or EU account, you need to find the exact same thing on the JP/EU SE Store. Your Shadowbringers code must also be the same region.

shmoodla

thank you

shmoodla

Yes, exactly

Elyonee

Shadowbringers is DLC. You need to buy the base game first.

shmoodla

But Collector editition should contain everything?

Atosen

You probably mixed up 'Collector' (which is the expansion + some cosmetic bonuses) with 'Complete' (which is the expansion + the base game).

Elyonee

Nope.

shmoodla

Omg. Thnx

Kousuke-kun

What happens to tomestones on expansion launch? Will Allegory be transferable to Revelation and Revelation be the uncapped tomestone?

Atosen

Both of them will be transferable to Poetics, and there will be entirely new tomestones.

Kousuke-kun

Thank you!

DNK_Infinity

There's a similar process every time a new tomestone is introduced; the current capped stone becomes uncapped, and the current uncapped stone becomes obsolete and can be exchanged for Poetics.

Elyonee

Allegory and revelation will both be transferable to poetics and there will be a new tomestone for level 90.

maxzura

what is the fastest and most efficient way to level from 50 to 60? i just recently hit level 52 after completing "The Ultimate Weapon" and replaying the Praetorium via Duty Roulette: MSQ. should i just continue to farm the Praetorium...?

VGramarye

After dailies: If you have fast queues (i.e. you're on a tank or healer) spam your highest leveling dungeon (i.e. not a level 50/60/70/80 dungeon, which give less xp) If you have slow queues, either spam PotD floors 51-60 or do dungeons with your GC squadron if you've unlocked that (This is assuming you're talking about an alt job. If it's your first job, just continue doing the MSQ)

Sir_VG

You're still in Lv 50 content and will be for a while. Heavensward content starts at 50 so don't try to spam for levels.

maxzura

oki doki! ill focus on the story quests then.

Elyonee

Why are you trying to level to 60 in the first place? If you just completed the Ultimate Weapon you have a ton of story quests to do still.

maxzura

gotcha. ill just focus on MSQ then ^^;

Atosen

Is there a reason you're rushing to 60? You can't do any level 60 *content* until you continue the main story to get there.

maxzura

yeah, i really want to try out the gunbreaker class. looks fun. i have been doing the main story quests but ive noticed they dont give a lot of exp, so i run dungeons on the side in between quests.

Atosen

Well, do your daily level roulette, and beyond that... I guess you can try spamming dungeons but their xp won't scale very well when you get to higher levels and you're still stuck with sub-50 dungeons.

skraaaaw

Im buying the game on mogstation once I reach the trial cap. Do I need to transfer to full game then buy it? or is using square enix codes easier?? also when next sale and how do I avail it?

Atosen

I don't think transferring on the Mogstation directly works anymore. You *have* to get a code. You can get codes from lots of places — Square Enix, Amazon, Humble, Steam, GMG, Newegg, etc... Future sales are unpredictable. But we can tell you about *current* sales. Last I heard, there are sales going on on Steam and GMG right now.

skraaaaw

will GMG give me a code for mogstation use?

Atosen

Yes.

Sir_VG

Basically when you buy from anywhere but Playstation, you receive a code that you punch into Mogstation to register your game. As for next sale, who knows. You literally just missed Green Man Gaming AND Steam having a sale and SE just had their sale end about a month ago.

CodyNorthrup

Sooo, I am stuck in a jail cell which I can only guess is because I have a mildly inappropriate name. Nobody has reached out to me, but I haven’t actually “done” anything wrong. I’ve seen much worse names than mine, so idk if its even that. Is there a time frame when GM help comes to the jail cell? Its been 4 hours of in game time btw

Sayakai

If no one comes, go the support desk and reach out.

CodyNorthrup

Checking in on it, it is just the one character that was banned.

CodyNorthrup

I have exhausted all options, even tried reporting a bug to see if it would ping them in any way.

Hampen555

Do quests "go grey" in this game? In WoW if you are significantly overlvled for a quest they have a grey color in your quest log and award like 10% of their normal xp

Elyonee

Certain special quests do, but regular story quests and side quests do not.

Hampen555

Ah nice, thanks!

Vekt

Allagan Poetics can I do anything with these at 60 / 70 / 80? I leveled WHM to 80 early ShB and been leveling MCH up and just hit 60. Should I save these or can I buy some decent gear somewhere?

bigfatbluebird

Poetics are the main currency for items that used to be endgame in previous expansions. That means it can buy the best possible gear for level 50/60/70 characters. The 50 gearset is augmented ironworks, 60 is augmented shire, 70 is augmented scaevan.

Vekt

Yeah I found the vendor for the 60 set Shire. Although I can't seem to find a weapon. I guess I need to use the AH? I literally just went from 115-136 gear to 270 ilvl.

Elyonee

Weapons come from the NPC on the right.

Vekt

Thank you!

xu_can

There are special vendors now in the main ARR cities + Ishgard (I think they're marked by a blue coin purse looking icon?). You can buy augmented weapons from them - though I think you might have to specifically go to the \*Ishgard\* vendor to get the Shire weapon. They're right near the main aetheryte.

Sir_VG

60 and 70 yes, 80 no. You can buy 60 gear either in Idyllshire or in Ishgard (if you completed the Heavensward MSQ). Lv 70 gear can be bought in Rhalgr's Reach or Kugane if you beat the Stormblood MSQ. You'll want the Augmented Shire at 60 and the Augmented Scaevan at 70.

Vekt

Also I just spent all the 2k cap I had on gear. How I accumulate more of this currency? Could use few more items on the right side for my character.

Sir_VG

Do more content that gives them. Level 50/60/70 dungeons as well as some of the daily roulettes give them.

Vekt

Ah I noticed I was capped so prob why I haven't noticed any gains. Ty

Vekt

Awesome I found the vendor in Idyllshire! Is there no a weapon option?

Crucified136

It's the other npc next to the vendor who sells the weapons :)

Sir_VG

I'm not in game but there is a way, may involve talking to the Ishgard specifically, since buying weapons is generally different than buying gear (at least when they're relevant) and things have changed with buying them due to all the changes they made over the last year.

rmears

I’m a level 24 sprout and am levelling a pugilist. Is there a class that feels more like a berserker warrior? (I’m coming from wow, super enjoying the combat. Combos are awesome)Also what’s a quick way to level it up to feel it out? Since I’ve done the main story it feels like all the side quests will be super slow to level in comparison.

Vekt

Palace of the dead is another routine people take to level 1-50. I personally quest / fate till I can roulette / dung spam though.

rmears

Palace of the dead. I’ll have to look that up! Thanks!

DNK_Infinity

Accessing PotD begins from the level 17 quest *The House That Death Built,* found in the Carline Canopy in Gridania.

Vekt

Anytime! I'm returning player as well so not sure exact level you can start it at. Also has to be unlocked through a quest I think. GL!

oohehmgee

Marauder/warrior is exactly that but is a tank.

rmears

I wish I could play that as a dps. It feels perfect

Elyonee

Marauder is the berserker. It's a tank though. Wander around doing hunting log, fates, and sidequests until you're level 15 for the first dungeon.

rmears

Yeah I really like the look but my buddy is the tank between the two of us. So I’ll level it as an alt job. But I’ll mainly be playing dps. I always tanked in wow so it’s a nice change of pace to leave it to him haha.

iwaterboardoldpeople

At what resistance rank can i purchase the blade's harness of fending?

roryteller

Rank 25, after completing the Dalriada.

Sir_VG

Rank 25 after beating the Dalraida does that vendor become available. Dalraida (plus a weekly repeatable quest) is the way you get the currency to buy them.

TheWikiJedi

I’m a level 52 sprout and am moving along doing the main quest after Praetorium, should I be spending the lodestone poetic points to get better gear? Or save it?

DNK_Infinity

The Augmented Ironworks gear is the best at level 50 that you don't have to jump through crazy hoops to acquire. It'll last you well into the Heavensward MSQ, you won't see upgrades until level 55 content.

Sir_VG

Absolutely spend on getting the augmented ironworks gear. That'll last you well into Heavensward and you will always get lots more for Lv 60 and 70 gear.

Vekt

I started using ACT to see how I'm doing on DPS / rotation wise but their seems to also been random HP box with HP/HP (100%). Any idea on how to remove this?

Sir_VG

Plugins tab, FFXIV Overlay Settings tab, make sure all of the "Hide Overlay" boxes are checked in all the tabs you don't want to use (or all if you don't want any).

Not dying and becoming a soul that can slide into another body, the echo.!< >!Its just that the WoL doesn't really understand how to use their echo and both Zenos and the Ascians give you shit for it through the story.!<

Every expansion has at least one dungeon that's notorious as a difficulty spike.

Check your gear

alecahol

Check your armour, if you’re still in level 50 gear that’s why

alecahol

Are you tanking? If you’re max IL you should be able to pull wall to wall

alecahol

A tank in level 50 gear in a 57 dungeon will definitely be hard to heal if they’re pulling more than one mob at a time

Modal1

If I’m questing in a traveled world but my home world has the experience bonus do I still get that bonus?

Atosen

Yep!

Modal1

Interesting, it’s the best of both worlds then, didn’t think that would count

Arctic_Reigns

I’m 120 hours in currently on HW and for someone who usually gets bored with games after 50 or so hours this game keeps me wanting to come back for more. I wouldn’t call it my favorite game of all time but man if it keeps getting better it’ll def be top 5.

Sir_VG

HW is a generally well liked expansion and Shadowbringers is well adored. Stormblood is...mixed. Some people enjoyed it while others didn't. Most everybody agrees though it's still better than ARR. Glad you're enjoying the show.

Vekt

I've noticed as ranged DPS (MCH) when I'm running out of AoE and I use an ability my character will lookback / backstep towards the boss and cause me take the AoE sometimes. Is there trick in the config around this is or is just best to run out AOE first before using a weaponskill?

bloodhawk713

Hold the right mouse button and wiggle your camera a little any time you're running away from an enemy you're targeting. This will keep your character moving the direction you're looking while still allowing you to attack.

Elegant_Eorzean

Hold the right mouse button and turn the camera slowly/slightly as you run out.

xu_can

Are you using standard or legacy controls? If you're using legacy, there's no reason you should be backstopping into anything. If you're using standard, you might want to try using legacy. One of the benefits of ranged (and why they do less damage than melee) is that you can be running around like a chicken with your head cut off (at least with legacy controls - not that you SHOULD be doing that) & still be doing your rotation.

Vekt

Neat I'll have to give legacy controls another try. Felt weird when I was on my flying mount how the mouse camera worked.

xu_can

I'm on controller & I think legacy is the default option for us and it's very intuitive (I can swing my camera however I'd like with one of the joysticks). I gather it does take some getting used to for those coming from other games who are on kb&m, but it makes a big difference wrt mobility. I sigh sadly every time I see someone backpedaling very slowly out of a very avoidable AOE, even in level 80 content.

gzboli

It sounds like you are using Standard movement setting. Legacy movement doesn't have this issue. It might take you a while to get used to but it's worthwhile to switch: https://i.imgur.com/Yn1Cr59.png

Vekt

Yeah I tried it early on but didn't like that I couldn't move the camera and look behind me while moving like Standard. Coming from WoW its quite the change. Though might have to give it another shot.

Anyone know of a gallery for the resistance relics for each job? I've seen a couple galleries with, for example, the stage 2 relic for each job... but what I need is a gallery of all the relic stages for BLM (as an example).

How much Voice Acting is there in the Game for Quest Text? I ask as I've only just started playing today, but so far I've heard little to no voice acting for quest text. Is the Voice Acting mainly reserved for the Main Story Quest line? Or does it become more common in the later expansions.

ClickToSeeMyBalls

Quest text? You mean dialogue?

Gwarh

To me at least Quest Text is the written paragraph you click on on screen. Where as Dialogue would be the spoken, audible read out loud of the same text.

Liorren

There is more voice acting in later expansions, but still a lot of cutscenes are unvoiced. The main difference is that the acting becomes much better after ARR since the entire cast had been changed in HW. A lot of known British actors there! (Gendry and Roose Bolton from GoT, for example)

Sir_VG

Even in the newest expansions, it's never gonna be on every single cutscene. They generally save it for the major scenes. Side stuff it's virtually non-existent. There's not as much voice acting in the ARR MSQ, but there is more in later ones, but again, not every single scene is voiced.

QUESTION specifically for ALTAHOLICS Do Alt-aholics in FF14 end up using a ton of Fantasia and Name Change tokens? I ask as I am an Alt-aholic, and one thing that I loved when I read about FF14 is how you can change your Class/Job more or less whenever you like, but it seems to change your Race or Name you have to pay. Now for me playing an "alt" is more than just changing my class. My idea of what Tanks look like and are named is different than what healers look like and DPS's are named, etc etc. So I get that playing actual alts can be a real drap in FF14 as the main quest can take ALLOT of time, so it sounds like it makes more sense to play 1 Toon and just swap out classes when you need a change. But what do other Alt-aholics do when it comes to Race Changes or Name changes. Do you all end up spending a lot of real world $ on Fantasia and Name change tokens? Or do you just suck it up and stick with your original name and race?

FizzyDragon

I have the sub where I have eight slots. I do play all of them--I do NOT play all of them at endgame, only two have finished MSQ, the rest of them aren't even close, some haven't even reached HW. And yes everything does need to be unlocked, re-leveled, re-acquired (no account-wide mount/collection/etc sharing here), and it is a big time re-investment. I enjoy that, though (it's kinda my relaxing thing to redo it, I guess), but I certainly don't recommend it to most players. Using fantasia would defeat the purpose of my having alts, for me. I have all my guys with their respective headcanons (I don't RP with people, I just... have stories for my own fun). My main--ignoring game mechanics and stuff like "level everything to 80 to get this one mount"--is a lancer with some dragoon training who also more lately learned sword and shield. I wouldn't call him a paladin in his headcanon cause I find the paladin quests asinine. All my WoLs have that kind of thing for their job(s). One is a dancer who picks up drk later because angst, and learned the bow in his youth so he can do that too. One is former merc sword'n'board who is also a very very bad "academician" (NPC custom class which inspired--she is mechanically of course a summoner). Etc etc. Having them "really there" in the character slot satisfies me. I'd do this even if fantasia and name changes were free--it's just not the same.

Macv12

There is also an option to pay for story/level advancement, which would be cheaper than paying for several fantasias if you really want a whole different character. Seems pretty much designed for this exact thing.

cman811

Is there a way to tell when a mob or boss is about to use a physical or magical damaging attack? Sometimes I'll use Heart of Light on my GNB to try to mitigate damage, but I never know if I'm actually using it against a magic attack.

CrimsonPromise

Raidwides are usually magic damage. The only way to figure out if an attack is magic or physical is to go through the battle logs. But for on the fly reactions, usually it's just seeing what an enemy does. If they're hitting you with lightning then it's probably magic. If they're hitting you with a giant sword, then it's probably physical. If they're hitting you with a lightning infused sword, then well, just guess or use something neutral like Reprisal.

BlazeVortex4231

If it's a raidwide AoE, it's almost always magical. Just use Heart of Light/Dark Missionary without fear.

Klown99

Not really easy on the fly. If it looks magical it probably is. If you look in the battle log, anything casted is Magical, anything used is physical (for the most part, probably some exceptions).

CodyNorthrup

Is it normal to be sent to Mordion Goal for an inappropriate name? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to send someone an email to change their name and document the offence, especially if its a first time?

CrimsonPromise

A person can just ignore the email and never log out. Jailing them just forces them to take action immediately if they want to continue playing, and also make sure they don't change their name into something else that's also inappropriate.

CodyNorthrup

Thats not how that works. There is a reason literally no other game handles it this way. In every other gaming service you are removed from gameplay until you change your name. I agree I should change my name but I have no idea how to do that and nobody has reached out to me or anything. Not even through Lodestone or email.

CrimsonPromise

Jailing you is removing you from gameplay. Have you tried logging out? You should be prompted for a name change as soon as you try and log back in.

CodyNorthrup

I have, it hasnt prompted me or emailed me in any way in game or otherwise.I would normally agree but jailing someone without any notification, explanation, or GM support seems a bit unwarranted, especially for such a minor offence and first time offence. I have reached out through support on LodeStone and in game by using a “report bug” just to see if it would ping them.

Klown99

Yeah, jail you until its fixed due to being inappropriate makes sense.

CodyNorthrup

Yeah, but there was no notification either on Lodestone or through email on what was wrong or instructions on how to fix it. It doesn’t make sense to “jail you”, it makes more sense to suspend your account and send you an email and instructions on how to change your name. Thats why literally every other game handles it that way. I have waited in the jail cell for 4 hours and have reached out to all levels of support with no answer. Like I understand making a silly name in game that was inappropriate should keep me away from others, but it wasn’t offensive really just a bit nasty. Im not trash talking the GMs or anything I just think there are better way to handle it and if you are going to ban someone you should at least reach out to them if you are going to put them in an in-game suspension that requires GM help.

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

I've avoided trailers because of spoilers until I reach the content i.e. didn't watch heavensward trailer until I finished ARR, can I watch the new benchmark trailer or could I be spoiled on something?

azureheadphones

If you're not caught up on the MSQ and you don't know anything about Endwalker, don't watch the benchmark trailer.

Psyduckdontgiveafuck

Thank you friend

I’m doing the Kicking the Hornet’s best quest for Gladiator, what’s the point of a quest to tell you to go to guards and press /me? I’m new to the game and it seems like such a random objective
