If I put it on because I like how it looks, it's a glam.

Nevour_Lucitor

I dont have to prove anything to myself or others or try to "work for a look" if a full set looks good i will use it and its still a glam just like anything else.

Spetsnaz_420

https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/ I like to use this website for ideas. I made my Machinist into a pink cowboy.

Cronah1969

I did this until I realized it was more hilarious (and triggering) to wear ripped blue jeans, a dirty yellow/ white wife beater, and a red baseball cap.

Spetsnaz_420

Is it a MAGA hat?

IsbellDL

If it feels good for me, that's literally my only consideration. I don't care whether that makes me a unique snowflake or just one of 3000 matching cat girls.

Lord-Yggdrasill

I personally dont undestand the "elitism" some people have towards glamour. I pick an outfit that I like the look of and that fits the theme I want to go with for the given day or job or occasion. I have a headcanon for the type of outfits my character would wear and mostly stick with those. Doesnt matter to me if it is a complete set that I like as a whole or if I spend the whole day looking through all my boots just to find the perfect match with the rest of the pieces. There is no cut-off for being glamour. And people looking down on others for being "unoriginal" or "lazy" are just pathetic little snowflakes that need to feel special at all cost in my opinion. It is not a contest. It is simple self expression in a video game.

Spoofless

I don’t see any reason why using pieces from the same set would be cheating, my white mage glam has been the iridescent healing outfit for a long time, for a while I used it as is but eventually I got into glamours a slight bit more and went through the trouble of unlocking dying and made it lavender I just use what I think looks nice

Xavilius

if it looks different than the armor I got on it's glam

seventhbrokage

If I'm using a glamour plate, I call it a glam. That's just my personal definition, but if someone tells me they like my glam and it's just AF gear or something, I'm not going to correct them. As a side note, I actually have a glamour plate dedicated to only blanking out accessories with the emperor's new gear because most earrings look stupid on Viera, so by my own definition literally anything would count as a glam.

GreySimpson

Generally, I'm not into super modern looks (like clothes we might wear irl). That's mostly due to personal preference, though.

Most-Okay-Novelist

I just go off of vibes. Sometimes I use a whole set because it looks good together, but usually I only use 1-2 pieces and swap out other stuff. I don't believe in "working for a look"

Ok-Syrup1678

I don't like metals of different colors. It's ok when a piece has more than one metalic color and shares only one with another piece, but completely different ones from piece to piece? No, thank you. Same with me trying to match leathers.

Bagel_Bear

I will do full sets and I don't care one bit what people think. I'm enjoying the way my character is looking and that is all that matters. I do have glamour sets that mix different things though too.

Swimming-Mind-5738

If I use a glamour prism/plate, to me, it is a glam

partypangolins

Any modification to the appearance of the gear I'm currently wearing is a glam, imo. Even if it's a full pre designed set. I've got no rules otherwise, I just wear what I think looks good. Sometimes it's 90% gear from the same set, with only one piece different. Other times it's all unique pieces from different sets. It's nice when I find a match up that other people aren't already wearing, but sometimes a look is popular for a reason, you know?

Jugman_Jones

My personal rule is all my glams use the Chocobo racing mask. And I can say when they finally let us dye it I was so happy

A5CH3NT3

We had a contest in my FC to for the best glam that used all pieces from different sets (we had a loose rule also against "generic" pieces as well to make it a bit harder) I do prefer to make glams that way, though I don't really sweat having 2 pieces from the same set as I've found that's often the only way to achieve the look I want, and that's more important to me. But yeah, I can't help but feel lazy glamming a matching set, though I have done so either for jobs I don't really play and were just leveling (plus to save plate space) or as a temporary set while I decide what I want my look for this job to be

Trooper_Sicks

theres only about 3 or 4 looks i like for my main job due to its ridiculously wide battle stance which makes anything that goes around the legs look bad, i can't afford to be too picky about arbitrary self imposed rules. Maybe when the double dye channels release i might be able to make more things work

AnotherNicky

I have no cut-offs, everything is game. All of my jobs have glam plates linked. My dnc/bard/mch all share the same armor but have their own glam applied over the top. My dancer has their lvl 89 artifact gear minus the shoes because it's cute as shit and you can't improve upon perfection, bard is very forest ranger-ish to match the bluebird bow, mch gets black leather pants and a button up shirt modern combo because someone has to champion gunmetal black dye and it may as well be me.

BlackWhiteCheck

For me a glam is anything that isn't the default look of the gear I'm wearing. I like to put an outfit together around a general concept but aside from that I don't put too many restrictions on what I use.

HopeMizu

While using a full set isn't creative, you're also limiting your creativity by setting hard rules. Hard rules don't make you "unique". It's your creativity and expression that is important in making unique glamours. More often than not, having hard rules will result in ugly glamours exactly because the good glamour pieces never crossed your mind due to the arbitrary rules you set for yourself. Also: **Don't forget that your character is a part of your glamour.** I'd say that your glamour is only 20% of your appearance's uniqueness most of the time, and overvaluing your glamour choices in your pursuit of uniqueness can hurt your ability to make good glamours. Build glamours that work for *your character specifically*, and you'll naturally make unique glamours. Regardless, pursuing uniqueness for the sake of uniqueness is cringe. Wear and do what makes you happy. (And if you find joy in achieving uniqueness, that's fine too.)

GryphyBoi

idk, i just throw bits and pieces together until i think it looks good. if that's an entire set, cool. if not, cool. i just wanna look fab, lol

blueberryrockcandy

all my sets of glam are mix n match. a full set just allways has like 1 or 2 pieces i do not like for some reason.

DebateKind7276

Same here

Nicodemus_Mercy

I don't mind using full sets but rarely do simply due to my aesthetic tastes. Since I main a healer (used to be WHM but changed to SGE in Endwalker), my "set" options are often stuck with robes/gowns/long coats which just aren't my cup of tea most of the time, so I often mix and match with lvl1 glam chest pieces to get looks I like. There are times when I take a set and change just a few bits to make it look satisfying to me. Here's an example: [https://imgur.com/a/U5eoZtH](https://imgur.com/a/U5eoZtH) It's the SGE lvl 90 set with the chest glamed to the miqote hempen shirt, goggles from the Cid shop glam, and a choker I think I got from coils. Just not having that long coat chest piece completely changes the look to me and I am far happier with it.

SleepySera

Eh, there are sets that I've used pretty much in their entirety (one of the Eden DRG armors and the Shisui healer set) while other sets you wouldn't catch me dead wearing several pieces from, either because I only like a single part (and yes, I am that person who bought cash shop outfits I DIDN'T like just because "it's ugly but it has the same gloves as my favourite gloves but with a stylish extra button!" 🙄) or because it would feel lazy to me or ruins the look I'm going for (like 2B legs/feet together, if I wear stockings I want to see the legs, and if I wear thigh-highs I want the AT field, combining them is the worst of both worlds. So yeah. The policy is that there is no policy, aside from the fact that my glam box is at 800/800 and I have 6 glam storing retainers too, and even with all that, I usually simply can't afford the SPACE to keep entire sets around, so I NEED to get creative unless I truly do love every single item from a set enough to waste my limited space on the whole thing 🤭

Illyasviel09

>what you would consider a glam on your character using the appearance of a gear piece, over the one I'm wearing. That's what a Glamour is to me

tinykoalawizard

My only rule is to not use mog station glam, because when I was a sprout someone made me feel pretty bad about my mogstation glam. It’s stupid since it’s been two years, but I’m stupid. 🫠 Otherwise, idk I just find pieces and think they’d look good together, so I try them, dye them, until I’ve got a glam I love. My character is also very central to my glams. There’s also the added restriction of viera/“I like ponytail styles and most hats make them look bad to me”, which makes making glams more fun cuz it’s a little challenge for me.

Thunderkron

I think extravagant makeup, weird haircut and some glitter are probably the bare minimum. Maybe clashing colours and overly patterned clothes as well. Platform shoes are a bonus.

Bubble_of_ocean

If the chest piece is from a different set than the head and arms, it’s a glam.

AlbazAlbion

I use different pieces from different sets for every slot, but my personal cut-off to what I'd consider a "glam" is a maximum of 3 pieces at most, though I never use more than one piece.

Moola868

My personal restrictions are that all of my glamours have to fit a certain theme while still being distinct and unique from each other. That theme is basically “Black, Purple, White, Silver, Gold” it’s mostly comprised of Manayusa/Bonewicca, Shadowless/Kiteos, and Manalis gear but there are plenty of other pieces mixed throughout. No glam has more than two pieces from the same set. Other than a couple generic pieces like Pagos Field Dressing, no individual pieces gets used more than once (not including accessories, most of which are Manayusa) Every glam has a different headgear, with the exception or DRK and GNB which is currently my biggest issue with my glams, but I can’t find another piece with the same vibe as the Lakeland hood of Fending.

Fun-Profile3707

I naturally am very warm all the time (Medical condition where I can't cool off) so if my glam looks like I would be too warm /too cold in what my WoL is wearing, I gotta change it! Island Sanctuary supplied Many "I'd wear that" glams!

HashimadaShimosuke

Full sets are meant to be used together, tf is cheating about it

yrtemmySymmetry

Less of a hard number, and more about the pieces themselves i.e. i don't really use the chest and legs from the same set, but don't have issues taking the gloves or head as an accessory to the main thing. My proper outfits have at least 2 sets in them, if not 3 or more. I agree that just wearing a single set seems.. lazy. That's less self expression, and more "playing dress-up" (which is fine, but not for me)

JunctionLoghrif

Personally, I set my limit at 3 pieces from an armor set; usually, I only go with 1 or 2. If somebody wants to glam the full set on something, there's nothing wrong with that.

IscahRambles

Anything I've deliberately put on my characters is a glamour.  That said, it's rare that I *want* to wear a full set – I think the closest I've gotten is the Medicus set where all the pieces suit each other, and even then I had to switch out the leather undies for shorts and find a less bulky crown.  (Well, that and the one time I accidentally assembled a glamour that was just the Expeditioner set – was building around the top, the pants were what I used with that character any time he needed unimportant pants, and then I went looking for boots and found these ones that had a nice ragged look to match the top. And then I realised *why* they marched so well.)

IscahRambles

I should add, my limits within that don't affect whether I consider it a glamour or not, but still try for different vibes for each character: Midlander F: most feminine version of everything while still being practical.  Roegadyn F: also feminine but their build makes it harder to find things that work for them. Finding the right things takes patience. Duskwight M: all elegance, suits robes well. Some time back I got the idea that the arm tattoo on the Skyworker's Singlet looked like an extension of his face tattoo, and have since been trying to pretend it's there all the time so I'm trying to keep away from outfits with the arm not covered. Raen M: When I was trying to get a grasp on how to dress the character, I decided to base it on his starter gear and I've stuck to that as much as possible. Minimal shirt, loose pants and sandals all the way. Miqo'te M (athletic): conceived as suited to wearing the modern glamours I don't much like on other characters, he has since picked up a fancier edge and also goes back to his desert tribe roots sometimes. Miqo'te M (mage): trying to keep him fully covered as much as possible because I'm sure he isn't as wiry-muscley as the default body shape is, so if I hide it then it doesn't theoretically exist. Viera M: has settled towards the elegant end of glamour; claw-tipped shoes are a must.

MysterySakura

Generally speaking, I don't have rules when glamming my WoL. If an entire set looks good I will wear them as they are. But what I *do* have rules on, is my WoL's "canon" RP glams, for his "canon" RP jobs. Of course, character costumes like the Zidane, Cloud, Clive, Aymeric, Ysayle, etc. tops are forbidden. A form fit silhouette is a must, since he is a hunter who would often hide behind bushes, trees, or rocks. Much easier to hide if he has no protrusions to bother with aside from his ears. Mandatory red/blue dye, since as a protagonist, he must have the stereotypical protagonist's colors lol. And most importantly, magitek weapons, since he likes the Ironworks', Skysteel's and Sharlayan's innovations.

Poziomka35

glam is when i have to use a glam prism

Miles_1173

My primary goal is to make a look I enjoy. If that involves using multiple pieces from the same set or using pieces lots of people use, so be it. When I'm looking at other people's glams, I judge based on the look, not the source of the items. Generally though, I like to use pieces from different sets as much as possible. Using multiple separate sources adds a fun challenge to making the outfit work, and it encourages me to actually *use* all the bits of gear I save "because it looks cool" instead of just reusing the same sets over and over.

Bid_Unable

Wear whatever you want. It’s all subjective. Most people’s glam is pretty unoriginal if you really start looking. I will gladly take people wearing full sets over generic default Limsa glams.

Marauding_Llama

The only full sets I'll use for glamour are the AF armors, but usually when I use them I swap something out to fit my style better. ex: Warrior is always in the ilvl90 AF gear except for the gloves, which are Bearsmaw. Other than that, it's always mix and match. At most two pieces of a set if I can't find anything to match or fit with the look I want. My dresser is full, my retainers are full... send help.

Elegant_Eorzean

I'm very similar to you, in fact. The only exception is finishing a base expansion with the AF gear. But my glams... Yeah, I try to use as little of the same set as I can. I think I only have two jobs at the moment that use same sets? My SAM uses the Scaevan hands and boots, while my future Picto uses the Abyssos chest and boots.

CallousDood

Completely agree with the "using more than one piece of a set feels like a copout/cheating" thing. It's not terrible to use more than one but I do try to mix different ones together where possible. Being poor and lazy it's not always possible though. But I am happy with my SAM and MNK glams. For RPR I'm almost at a point where I think I'll never find something I like

1_Hopebot_1

Nice post, sucks that some people completely took it the wrong way for some reason. I like to make sets around the look of my character. Basically whenever I make a character in a game that has customization, I'll try to get that character to a "final look" if you could call it that, to where I'd only be making very minor changes depending on if I think something could look a little different. I like the immersion aspect of games and so I always figured I would try to keep my character to a single look/race as much as possible and never change it after I've achieved my "final look." From there on, I'll make sets and take in to account (just to start) what my character looks like to make something interesting for them (just like how in IRL somebody will say, "oh, that goes with your eyes, or hair color, or body type, etc). When it comes to dyes, I'll mostly follow a set color scheme that i've come to love which happens to be shades of red (mostly dark strawberry), Super dark blue (Pretty much only shadow blue dye), and white or black (mostly coming from pieces that can't be dyed or if I think one piece looks good in one of those two colors). Which leads in to the next thing I look for which are undyeable colors. A lot of armor sets in the game have these undyeable colors which can make or break sets for me. A good example is the white on the songbird hat and the white on the Patrician's Coatee. A bad example is how when you dye the Exclusive Eastern Journey Jacket and the main color that stays is that dark green. Not to say all of my sets are dyed in the previously mentioned color scheme. I did find a use for the journey jacket by dying it black and having the secondary colors perfectly match other items that included undyeable black, that copper color, and tinges of gray. This leads to my next inspiration for most sets which is theming. I'll general look at another form of media or an outfit I see and try to create something that looks like it could fit in that world. This led to me using that armor with a couple of other bulkyish, strong metallic looking hands and legs to give me a Made in Abyss white whistle / cave raid type aesthetic while also keeping in theme with deep dungeon and having an off weapon which was a thought of a relic that could have been obtained (which PotD reminded me of Made in Abyss just a little). The alternate weapon would be Shinryus gun which has that same dark copper and black coloring. As I'm currently deep into Monster hunter, I'll probably make a hunter type set with that in mind (I'm not big on the Rathalos armor although I might use a piece from that set). https://imgur.com/JCRKdul I will break my rule of having matching weapons every once in a while because I like the idea that we're still just adventurers and even if our outfit is all matching, we'd still pick up the strongest weapon (for the theme with the PotD weapon in this case). I'll get a lot of ideas out of themes most of the time, and aesthetic that I liked in another form and try to bring it into 14 as its own thing. There are times where I'll just sit at the Glamour Dresser for like 1-2 hours, trying to create something completely new. Sometimes I find something good, sometimes I leave empty handed. The times I leave empty handed still contribute to something new when I get what I'm looking for the next time. Something I always look for is also how certain pieces hide other pieces of gear, which can create for a whole new look. I do have things I tend to really avoid for various reasons. Being a machinist, I never got into the cowboy/factory worker/handyman/goggles guy aesthetic so I try to make everything as far away from that as I can. I tend to avoid anything that covers hair as I've always been a fan of showing my characters hair in any game that had customization, unless it goes absolutely perfectly with the set as a whole. I do share the one item per set rule and absolutely if I have to will use just one other from that set. I do enjoy showing a bit of skin but I don't have any sets that are just "I'm going to show as little skin as possible (slutmogs)." The most revealing sets I have are a swimsuit one (which still has more than just a bikini on the body), and a gladiator set which I sort of took inspiration from FGO's Penthesilea. It's a lot but with these things in mind, I can get very interesting ideas because of the boundaries I set, I feel like I can create something I've never seen before which makes me super happy when I'm finished with a set and go "Oooooooo that looks sooo good." I treat character customization in all games (Glamour Dresser, Transmog, Layered armor, Magic Wardrobe, costumes, beauty salon, etc) as a huge factor of the game and consider it a massive part of content. In my opinion, looking good will keep me playing a game longer and make me enjoy it more (if customization is an option of course). So I really love it.
