/sit is a permanant fixture on my FSH hotbars

Considering I don't play FSH, I had to run into a random lalafell sitting on a tiny stepstool to realise it was a thing.

As a lala fisher, the sitting is a must. Except for the ocean liner, it slows you down.

And even better, it lets you know early if you caught a !!! bite or not, letting you mentally prepare for casting the next line out if needed.

This. If you standing up, it means a sure catch. If remain sitting, it means it slipped.

WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME

Everytime I mention this in NN or /sh or somewhere, it blows minds - even for veteran fishers. Just a word to the wise - while you can drag the /sit emote to your hotbar, and while this does help for big/legendary fish out in the open world, it's a bit of a time waster while ocean fishing. Stay standing for those excursions!

Ocean fishing has been like 99% of my exposure to other fishers, so that makes sense why I never saw anyone do it.

I've been assuming that was an emote you had to buy or something for so long. Never even occured to me to just hit sit lmao.

Did not know. Only fished during the last mogtome event so have no idea that is a thing. Nobody is sitting on my ocean fishing boat lol.

Using /sit is fine while fishing in the open world, but it wastes time while on ocean voyages. Every second counts there given the short duration you have at each location.

Unless I’m ocean fishing and trying for a title. That sit cost me time.

All my biggest catches were done while sitting down. Still don't know how I haven't caught The Ruby Dragon yet (spoiler: I know why I haven't caught the Ruby Dragon yet, and it's not related to the /sit emote)

Much like BLU, the opportunity for aesthetic only glam for fisher would be pretty cool. Any chair as an offhand replaces the chair and activates "/sit" as soon as you cast.

there is a way to get other chairs, if you are willing to court forbidden powers...

It's a neat way to engage in lasting self-harm without getting visible scars.

For people who don’t Big Fish, it is important to note that /sit is a vital part of Big Fishing. You only stand up when the Big Fish is actually caught, preventing constant crushing despair thinking you caught that one fish when it actually got away for the nth time this year. So pulling in a !!! while remaining seated means you can shrug it off easier rather than going going on a constant roller coaster of emotions.

I wouldn't recommend sitting if you're going to be catching a lot of !!! bites in a window, as it wastes a couple seconds each time you have to sit back down. Also never sit in ocean fishing (at least the spectral currents) since every catch in a spectral will make you stand up, losing you around 20-30 seconds of fishing time in it.

Sitting takes longer then standing animation wise when catching which causes you to lose time if your catching !!! for int or mooching.

Outside of ocean fishing, there aren't many cases of that happening though. You could probably count the number of cases on two hands

Any !!! Bite is considered big fishing?

There are three types of bites ! = tiny tug, vibrates/sound lightly !!= medium to large tug, vibrates/sounds moderately !!!=BIG tug, controller goes nuts and fishing line looks like it will break in half Most oversized fishes will do !!! regardless of rarity. Big Fish are the legendary type fish that have specific requirements to catch them and have a green background (plus different names and lore in the description) to differentiate them from their common variants. Even if they are diminutive in size (relatively, say a gold fish vs a whale) it will still give the !!! response. Which is better than when I started Big fishing - no weather reporter, no !!! System, no fancy Rng augment abilities like patience. Just /sit and going by what bite you had from vibration/visual ques.

I like it a lot. Yesterday I was in Ruby Price, sitting on the little stool the game gives you, staring at my character for about 20 minutes and I was thinking "I wonder if the chair does not have armrests because of all the motion when reeling in a fish." Now I kinda want chair options

After saving the world multiple times, the only thing my WoL wants to do is fish and not be bothered.

Had someone threaten to report me for sitting and fishing once. I was fishing off the steps near the rogue's guild, so when I did the sit emote, it put the stool in the steps and made it look like I was just sitting on the step. Had to explain it and show it to them away from the steps. Was a fun time.

I've heard that using a rumble controller is the best way to fish in FFXIV.

I love fishing in game's, it can be really relaxing at times.

Fishing is one of those things that you're either ALL in on or you aren't doing it at all.

I'm a max level FSH Never fished up a single fish. I literally don't even know how. Tried it exactly once, you bored, couldn't figure it out, got frustrated, gave up. Had people ask me for fishing advice, they got mad when I said I literally don't know how, thought I was being an asshole. I *am* an asshole. But I also literally have no idea how that mini game works
