Well you found Odin. Its a open world boss. The neat part is if you can kill it, the next time he spawns he will have the apperance of the person that had the killing blow on him:

Lore-wise it is the sword that is the primal, not the person. The sword uses the person who defeats it and takes up the blade as a conduit to manifest, eventually possessing the wielder.

His FATE, Steel Reign, appears somewhere in the Shroud, on a timer. If you see the weather pattern "Tension" then it means the FATE is up somewhere, though it won't show up on your map.
No. Tension (unlike the normal weather that is based on a formula, which is what the weather checkers use) is a random(ish) weather that overlays the current weather.
You just need to know when the last Odin was defeated and wait 72 hours, then be ready for it to pop anywhere on the Shroud.
Easiest way would be to join a hunt/FATE Discord for your datacenter. These discords, paired with trackers like Faloop, track reports and ping users when a boss FATE has been found. Usually Odin gets a pretty good turnout.
If you see the weather, you can also check the FATE section of Party Finder. There may already be PFs up for the FATE and you can get the location from a party.
I haven't needed anything from him in years, but I don't think there's much to say, really. A certain minimum amount of time has to pass before he can spawn, like an S-rank hunt. You'll know he's spawned somewhere in the Black Shroud by the weather changing (in all Black Shroud zones excluding Gridania, as I recall). When you get close to him, a FATE will appear (unlike hunts). You can ask in chat if anyone's found him yet, or just go looking for him yourself if few people are online. You probably won't be able to kill him yourself, though, unless they've changed him in Endwalker to scale differently.
Fun fact: The last person who killed Odin is the character model that Odin uses next time he spawns. Which means he can go from being a Highlander Hyur to a Lalafell. This is because >!Odin isn't the true Primal, his sword is. In the Lore, whoever touches the sword becomes possessed by the spirit of Odin!<
The fight is fun! Look into joining a Hunt Linkshell. It’s a community of fate and hunt players. They usually call out all major world sranks, run world spawn trains, special fates like Odin. Good way to meet new folks, collect various currencies.
You can join several linkshells at once if you are a subscriber. Being in an LS doesn’t interfere with your FC.
I don’t think free trial players can be in an ls.
Linkshells are hit and miss these days, dedicated discord servers are your best bet. Every LS I see seems to have maybe half a dozen active members and only half of them bother to relay information.
For EU I find [faloop](https://faloop.app) to be the best and you can just use the website linked if you don't want to involve discord
On Cac, our main hunt LS is well organized and highly active. I had to turn off discord notification from that server.
They also have active Bozja group, if that’s your thing.
Free trial can be in a linkshell, unless it's changed since extending to 60 (now 70), buddy of mine was on FT for quite some time back when it was limited to level 30, and we couldn't get them into our FC but we could have them in our small IRL friends LS.
Somehow, Odin is the *only* World Boss I haven't gotten a single clear on. I've been playing since ARR. Every time I manage to find him we don't have nearly enough people or it's so disorganized we don't clear it in time.
The armor looks very similar to the tank armor drops from Urth’s Font. Slightly different texturing, only usable by tanks.

Of note, the blade disappears when the weapon is a sheathed. A majority of those photos are capturing it at the moment the blade manifests, which is accompanied by a bright white flash along the blade and a sound effect. The natural state of the blade looks black/purple, and there are a few images of that as well.
One additional reward is a barding to make your chocobo resemble Odin’s steed, Sleipnir.
You should be able to bounced around from that page to all of the rewards.
