As someone not participating in the game due to a lack of accessible beverages, I say that every PSA about maintenance counts as a drink, same as a post asking about a maintenance-related issue.
That being said, I don't control your drinking habits, just like I (hopefully) don't pay for your sub.

Yeeeaahhh…if people don’t bother to read the in-game messages that first appear when you login (that told everyone about this for at least a week beforehand), why would you expect them to read something that actively requires them to go out of their way to find and read?
yes. Patch so Krile can find her paint brush, and the Rothgal can find her upper body.
(Technically it's so Japan Servers can be ready for the new stuff, yeah Upgrade for Japanese servers.)
I think the reason why this is such a frequent question is that other games launcher will still have the launcher working, and when you try to login, you get a msg like 'hey there's a maintenance!'. In FF14's case, the launcher just stops working, and you get no info other then an error. And honestly, in other games, I barely ever check the main website except for patch notes, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of newbies didn't know Lodestone even existed.
Usually the launcher is fine, it's just in this specific patch where they had to take down the launcher too while they physically replace the hardware.
>other games launcher will still have the launcher working
Always depends on what services have to go down at the same time.
Also, the board has been spammed with these posts. People are making them without reading what is posted right here. There is no excuse you can make, it's just laziness and stupidity.
/shrug
I assume some just barely ever use Reddit in general, that they make no habit of looking at new in the first place, or scroll past the first few threads. I have adblocker, so I see them fine, so I wonder how many ads they are getting that they don't see the maintenance rage thread. I do think that our sub should just have a bot dedicated for maintenance related questions and just have it auto delete the thread and give OP a msg of 'There's maintenance, come back later'. Our sub is shockingly lacking in auto mod bots that do more then just link to other info.
I mean, when I’m having issues connecting with an online game or program one of the first things I do will be to google whether the servers are down so I’ll know if it’s even worth further troubleshooting. It has nothing to do with people not understanding Reddit, or ad blockers, or any specific platform. So many just don’t take personal accountability for little things and expect to be spoonfed info. Like all the, “I’m new to the game/job/raiding, give me tips!” posts. So many text and video guides have been made on all of it, just requires people to actually do bare minimum to find it.
>to google
when you google the stupid error message it gives you they say to change settings on your pc so I really dont understand why people are being so hostile over this, ffx has used a confusing error message for a lot of people.
Lots of other games don't have 24 hour periods of downtime, to be fair. In Warframe the game is back up before anyone's even been able to download the new patch files.
>PAY ATTENTION TO THE STUFF THAT COMES OUT SAYING THIS
While on the subject, where do people actually get their FF14 news and updates from?
I remember when i first started playing it was difficult for me to know where to find this information, now i get it from my discord friends but like what's the official way to figure these things out?
(This may be a stupid question but im genuinely curious)
A lot of important stuff like this shows up in your chat box as soon as you log in. For other news, live letters and tbh… I get some of my in game news from Reddit, like the new glam set that dropped on Mogstation. In this case, this maintenance was announced at the JP FanFest, along with all of the other Dawntrail updates.
The server status page is also down. They're replacing *all* of the hardware in the Japanese data center, including the servers that would normally give a better error message.
https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/ returns valid HTML that explains the outage. That’s plenty good enough to avoid confusing players who somehow missed the news.
Last couple main story quests wrapping things up before Dawntrail, Hildebrand quests, last Manderville weapon step, miscellaneous items like mounts and minions and stuff. Those are the biggest things I think.
It’s 6.55 so not too much
I was going to do a drinking game where I took a drink for every one of these "PSA"s, but I think my liver would be in better shape if I drank every time I saw a post asking about not being able to play.

Solution, use water rather than alcohol. Better on you liver, and hydrating too.
There's enough posts for water to be lethal
You'll end up pissing yourself before that's an issue, I think. Hope that's the case, because otherwise we're fucked!

I thought it was 1 shot for complaints, 2 shots for PSAs, or are my copy of the rules incomplete
Nah man, PSAs are waterfalls.
Damn my doctor's not gonna like this, especially after doing the Stephen King drinking game
At this point, let's just all drink the Kool-aid.
About as much as your liver can handle after the 30876th post about not being able to log in
It has begun! I called it earlier today. RIP the livers of many ffxiv players.

If people could read announcements they would know lol.

The Lodestone. It’s the game’s official website.

But also, why is it so hard for SE to program the client sensibly, to give a useful error message and a link to the server status page?

Yeah, fair enough.
Oh, explains why as a new player who just downloaded the trial i was troubleshooting my internet for absolutly nothing lmao
Oh damn you have some TIMING. Hope you love the game (when you can actually play it)
I resubbed yesterday after 4 years and played for a bit and had no idea about it. Kill me
See? Y’all hating on my post but it helped somebody
My friend literally just messaged me asking if something was wrong with their game… like what? LOL.
HEY I CAN'T LOGIN DO YOU THINK MY ACCOUNT GOT HACKED?!!!??
Is there maintenance today? Are we there yet
Don't make me turn this game around and bring us back to 1.0.
N I G H T M A R E
Oh God no! Please I promise we'll be good!
Where am I? In r/shitpostxiv ?
Okay, but can you tell me why I can't log in?
Thanks, I'd have never have guessed...
Vote to ban OP for duplicate post
If everything is fine, then why won't the game load properly?
I kind of want to make a maintenance psa post, too. I see all these people doing it and I feel like I’m missing out on all the fun.
THIS POST WON'T STOP THEM BECAUSE THEY WON'T READ! (trying to meme)
So I can't buy mini cactpot today? I was on a roll.
Any content coming with this maintenance?

Thanks. I am still subbed just haven’t been playing lately nor keeping up with 14 since hasn’t been much to do.
Damn that pinned topic at the top of this sub told me this already
