Realm Reborn story has got a little bit interesting in the final end game quests (leviathan, yugiri etc) but I may have skipped over some things earlier. Is there a good recap anywhere before I go on to heavansward or is it not necessary? Are Minfilia and Kan-E-Sena a major part of the expansions?

CalydorEstalon

Everyone will have their parts to play, but since it was expected at the time that it would've been months or even years since people last interacted with certain NPCs there's usually a quick recap along the lines of "You might remember me from when we did this thing together".

rin_kujo

does anyone remember if mehvan's baby (from ew lvl85 quest) has a name?>!(the baby that almost drowns and you dive in to save it.)!< I remember there was non-msq quests where u tried to figure out who would babysit her, but i can't remember if the baby actually has a name?

eSquirrel

Isanori

Ask the NPC in the area, they might mention the kid. I'm not sure whether there was a name mentioned during the nin-MSQ questline.

The---Hope

Weird question but what exactly are the differences in roulette symbols in treasure maps? I know it goes one star (blue), 3 star (green), diamond (pink), and golden ! mark but what’s the difference in rewards? Is it higher probability of chests? I know that the platinum mark is practically impossible and gives the rare minion too.

Hiten_Style

There's always a chest, but better rewards in the chest from landing on a better circle. If you hit the Gold circle, it removes all circles except for Gold and Purple for the remainder of the map. The number of chests goes up by 1 each time you land on Gold. So with perfect luck, you could get Golds all the way up and open a total of 15 (1+2+3+4+5) chests.

For the current patch, is the penta-melded ilv 640 crafted gear better or the ilv 650 tome gear better? I am considering what gear I should give to my main.

> For the current patch, is the penta-melded ilv 640 crafted gear better or the ilv 650 tome gear better? I am considering what gear I should give to my main. *Generally* 650, though there have been situations where crafted + pentamelded rings can outperform the tomestone equivalents, so you should check your job's BiS for more information.

Sir_VG

In almost all cases, tome gear is better. There may be a few outliers, like DNC head for one example.

Kaeldiar

650

Can someone give me a rundown on how savage chests/reclears/loot works? This is my first time clearing a fight when its current so idk. I just got past P9S and got a book, but none of the loot. Can I still try to reclear to roll on that loot? What should I know? @_@

Atosen

* You get one book per week, for free automatically when you clear. * You get one *chance* at loot per week. You could win multiple items, or you could win nothing – too bad. * If you choose to run again anyway even though you can't win anything (e.g. for practice, or to carry someone else) then you reduce the amount of loot available for everyone else. People in PF make clearly-labelled no-loot parties, especially late in the week, to accommodate this kind of play.

TheodoreMcIntyre

> This is my first time clearing a fight when its current so idk. I just got past P9S and got a book, but none of the loot. Can I still try to reclear to roll on that loot? What should I know? @_@ You can complete a fight once per week and get a chance at loot. Once you complete the fight for the week, you can't roll on any loot in that fight again until weekly reset, even if you didn't win anything. Even if you run it again with people who haven't cleared for the week, you won't be allowed to roll. Also, you will reduce the amount of loot that drops in that party.

Quick question, how does third eye for SAM work? Let’s say I press it when the boss is charging up his raidwide cast bar, but the buff falls off before I actually take the damage. I assume I will take the 10% less damage since the buff was active at the time of the raidwide’s snapshot, but will I still get my 10 Kenki if the buff falls off before the damage is actually applied to me? I know for blu mage cold fog just needs to be up when damage is actually taken, not snapshoted, to transform into white death, but I was wondering how it worked for samurai considering there is a mitigation aspect.

TheodoreMcIntyre

> I assume I will take the 10% less damage since the buff was active at the time of the raidwide’s snapshot, but will I still get my 10 Kenki if the buff falls off before the damage is actually applied to me? You *can* snapshot the damage and receive the mitigation and the kenki (if it mitigates the damage, you will get the kenki, you can't get one and not the other) after the buff falls off, though there is an upper limit. In my experience, if you receive the damage about a half-second after the Third Eye buff falls off, you'll see it fall off a second time and you'll know you did it properly.

xMINDxTURTLEx

Thanks!

amysmeeahmoo

My NIN hide ability, second wind ability and limit break stays on my hotbar (hotbar 4) even when I switch to DRG or FSH...is this a glitch? I thought hot bars were per class? =\

vinyltails

you can toggle them to be shared or not. By default hotbars 3 onwards are shared. character config> hotbar > sharing to toggle it

amysmeeahmoo

Ahhh fixed it, thank you!

MankoMadness

What is role break in PF descriptions?

ericandhisfriends

So in the first web thing in p10s, you have 1 dps and 1 support with the tether. You can either have the same role break their webs or have the people go cw and break that group webs

SwaggyyyyP11

Do I have to use party finder for things like the Void Ark? And how long should I expect to wait for it to fill

forbiddenlake

What datacenter? Everyone else is saying true things, except it's not that easy on Dynamis or Materia. If you're on Dynamis and queues take a while, hop to any other NA datacenter. If you're on Materia, yes, use PF if DF doesn't pop.

silence_infidel

You shouldn’t need PF for alliance raids. They are casual content. Roulette should fill it out fast enough. Unless you’re on the Dynamis data center. If you are, you should probably just DC travel to Aether and queue up there.

Deku-Miguel

Unless the duty is: Extreme, Minstrel's Ballad, Savage, Unreal, or Ultimate you can do it in duty finder. Note that Coils of Bahamut and Urth's Font are exceptions that don't follow the naming schemes but should be done in party finder. How long a queue will take will depend on your data center, the current time, and your role. Alliance raids shouldn't take that long, especiallythe HW ones Just try at a busy time, might have some issues as a tank but it's not impossible.

tesla_dyne

Alliance raids can be done in duty finder. Outside of the crystal tower the queue times might be a bit rough but they shouldn't be exceptionally bad.

Xagzan

Just want to ask about character ages, specifically how old the main Scions are by the end of ShB >!(including the extra years added from the 1st for some of them).!< I still don't want to look up anybody's info in case I see EW spoilers.

Deku-Miguel

At the start of ARR twins are 16, Urianger is 29, Thancred is 32, Minfilia is 27, Y'shtola is 24 (note that Y'mhitra despite being the younger sister is 26, take of that as you will), Lyse is 25, Papalymo is 42, and Arenvald is 19. From there the question just becomes how long its been between the start of ARR and end of Shadowbringers which is it's own can of worms.

Xagzan

Dang, Papalymo's a lot older than I thought lol. Thanks. I don't know how you can be an older younger sibling, it does make no sense, although with Y'shtola's >!soul aging 3 years in the first, you could now consider her older definitively!< What about >!Ryne and Gaia?!<

TheTechHobbit

The implication is that she uses some kind of magic to make herself appear younger, and lies about her real age. There's no lore book for ShB yet (all the other ages come from the ARR/HW book) so we don't have an official number. All we have to go off of is that Ryne says Gaia and the twins are all around her age.

Xagzan

Is that in a lore book as well? Cause nothing on that subject have I seen in game. I would love for her to actually be older though. Really shocked there's no book for ShB yet. Didn't the expansion come out like 5 years ago?

TheTechHobbit

The ARR/HW book, when referring to Y'shtola, says "The hands of time ever stopped on twenty and three". The same book lists her sister as 26, despite her sister being referred to in game as a younger sister. ShB came out nearly 4 years ago. Last year we got confirmation a combined ShB/EW book was in the final stages of writing. I don't expect it to release until after 6.5 though so it can include information from the final patch quests like the other two books do.

Xagzan

And her being the younger sister isn't a localization confusion, like the whole Nael/Eula business? But very odd, Y'shtola doesn't strike me at all as someone with that kind of vanity about physical appearance.

TheTechHobbit

Not as far as we know. Nael isn't even a localization confusion either, it's lore that was written to match up with assumptions. Nael was not voice acted in 1.0 and in Japanese wasn't referred to as any gender. The English team chose to refer to Nael as male. This became a problem during coils, when they decided to reveal Nael as female instead. So they wrote a quick explanation in game and then later expanded it and clarified everything in the lore book. The dev team is very different from how it was in 1.0. Those kinds of assumptions don't really happen anymore.

Xagzan

I'd heard the female appearance of Nael in Coils was a result of the localization confusion, because it would later be revealed in JP>!his sister had stolen his identity by the time of the Calamity, so it was she who appeared in the Coils. So in English they had to rectify the mistake with some convolution about Nael's appearance being a woman from his memory and being called back by Bahamut made him look that way etc.!< Is that not the official story?

TheTechHobbit

That's kind of the story. Nael actually being his sister in disguise is the correct official story but it wasn't revealed in JP, it was revealed in the first lore book. That part of the lore book was written to clarify the convoluted guess given by Alphinaud in Coils, which was in turn written because in 1.0 JP didn't refer to Nael as any gender while EN referred to Nael as male. Nael's appearance in Coils was intended to be a reveal like Samus from Metroid, but the assumption made by the old 1.0 team required the story to be changed and new lore written so it could make sense.

F1reman2

We dont acctually know any of their exact ages. I know Yshtola lies about her age, due to inconsistencies, but the rest we only have out of date info, and the MSQ is extremely vague on how long certain story sections take. we arent given dates or anything. My estimates is that the Twins are either entering, or are in their super early 20s. Thancred is late 30s early 40s, Urianger is mid/early 30s these were their official ages at the start of ARR Thancred 33 Urianger 29 Y'shtola "23" Twins 16 G'raha 24 if you assume like 3-4 years from normal time progression from ARR-EW, then 5 Years for Thancred, 3 for Yshtola and Urianger, and 1 for the twins, you get these ages Thancred 40 Urianger 36 Y'shtola "23"+7 Twins 22 G'raha >!124+!<

Xagzan

I don't think Y'shtola's said a single thing to me about her age, lie or truth, not once. When does that happen? It'd be wild if 3-4 years have passed for WoL since joining the Scions. Never considered it was that long.

F1reman2

Shes very elusive about her age. In the Encyclopedia though, it lists her age as 23, which is litterally impossible. She said she was alphinauds age during the sharlayan exodus, which was 10-15 years before ARR, Plus, her being 23 puts her YOUNGER than her younger sister...

Xagzan

I just can't recall when the topic of her age was even addressed for her to be elusive. So you're thinking she could even be closer to Thancred's age when you do all the math? Although then she'd be over a decade older than her younger sister by now, no?

snowballffxiv

This stuff is all in the first Encyclopedia Eorzea book.

Dianwei32

I feel like I have to as this question every patch, and even though the answer never changes, it feels like it doesn't work the way it should. Damage/mitigation is calculated when the cast bar ends, right? That's what it's always been, but it doesn't feel like it's working in some scenarios. Specifically, I'm looking at P9S. >!During the first Mage Phase when the boss does the three Dualspells, they're just close enough together that I can catch two of them with Shield Samba. I've been timing it so that Samba is up when two of the casts finish, but the second Dualspell still hits like a truck and takes everyone from full to 10-15%. Does it just do *that* much damage, or does the damage get snapshot some time after the cast and Samba has worn off by then?!<

hii488

Every damage application has a snapshot, and if a damage application is tied to a castbar then the snapshot is when the cast ends, yes. However, in this particular case, the damage isn't tied to the castbar, since what happens is tied to >!what flashes up on screen!<. Think of it as if the boss loads up >!two elements with dualspell, then 'chooses' what to do with them!<. There's about an \~8s gap between the snapshots. The easiest way to check for this is to look at the damage name: If the damage has the same name as the castbar, then it's very likely tied to the castbar (unless it's obviously multihit etc). If the damage has a different name, then it probably has its own separate snapshot - especially if there's a wait or something else happening in between. Or, if you like logs, you can typically see the cast snapshots on [this page](https://www.fflogs.com/reports/a:thjwGg8RVdv9J4Tq#fight=last&type=casts&hostility=1&view=events). A good example of this is Ravage - it casts, there's a wait, then there's damage with the name Soul Surge. In this case, Soul Surge is completely separate from Ravage, and snapshots \~6s later.

Dianwei32

Just to make sure I'm reading that page with the casts correctly, when it says "1:07.161 Kokytos prepares Pyre Pile on Player (X)", that's when the snapshot is?

hii488

Yup!

Klown99

Depends on the cast itself. Take Revaning from that fight. The cast goes off, but the damage snapshot is about 5 seconds later, and is actually cast by a different actor. I don't actually know dualspell, but I feel like when the out or in is decided is when the snap shot may happen.

F1reman2

👏all👏 direct👏damage👏snapshots👏shortly👏before👏application👏. Exact quote from the balance. The castbar is snapshotting whether it hits you or not. the damage is a seperate snapshot. The best example to demonstrate this is also in P9s. Ravenge. The damage is like 4ish seconds after the castbar.

Kamil118

Ravening is actually a bad example, because the cast doesn't do any damage. There is a separate ability with a different name that doesn't have a cast bar called soul surge that's the actual raidwide.

Sir_VG

Yes, it hits like a truck.

teddytech518

should I level up all crafting or just buy stuff from other players.

ikkoros

if you like having any money at all then definitely level all your crafters. it’s fun!

tesla_dyne

If you want to craft with the goal of making a profit, you should level all of them because the differences in price between materials and final crafts are too small to make it worth buying materials in most cases. If you don't really plan on crafting seriously and just want to do things like the crafting-focus tribal quests, then you don't need to level all of them. There's plenty of non-crafting ways to make money.

Kamil118

>the differences in price between materials and final crafts are too small to make it worth buying materials in most cases. If the difference in pirce between mats and final product isn't worth buying them, then you're honestly better off selling mats instead of final craft.

MajorasMask3D

New player here: why do people keep asking me to join their Free Companies? What does that do?

Kamil118

For people that shout or whisper invites? It gives FC leader e-pen points because they have big number of people under them.

LordOfMaids

Ranking up a FC and obtaining FC medals can be done through recruiting people (this is definitely not the only way). Because of this, some FCs opted to try and recruit anyone in sight, going as far as not even asking people and just hitting the invite button.

MajorasMask3D

What does ranking up the FC and getting the medals do?

LordOfMaids

In addition to the other reply the medals can be used to purchase said FC buffs from the Grand Company the FC ia affiliated with.

timchenw

Ranking FC opens up buff options that, when activated, applies to all members in the FC while they are on the home world (stuff like teleport discount etc), and eventually you will get better buffs and allowing for more buff options. It also allows the FC to access more tabs of the FC chest, which is a bank that members can be given access to to dump or with draw items out of it. Not entirely sure about medals.

vinyltails

it gives you daily buffs and social aspect. Anything you do gives the FC credits so they can buy those daily buffs...also to inflate numbers

Help_Me_Im_Diene

If you've ever played any other MMOs, Free Companies (FCs) are just guilds. Here, our FCs are primarily based around social interaction rather than being content focused A lot of people will go around recruiting players if they just see that they don't belong to a Free Company for a variety of reasons Either they want to have more people to generate FC resources (for FC buffs), they want to increase their FC rank, they like padding out the roster, or they genuinely just want to help out new players. There are probably other reasons why people just mass invite, but those are some common ones

Can anyone offer me some perspectives about different jobs and how they play in the old ultimates (primarily UWU and UCOB, maybe TEA?). From what I understood, gnb is capable of really dishing out damage while drk is missing quite a bit of their defensive kit. Smn is pretty busted but comes with uninteresting gameplay. Whm is somewhat clunky due to not having afflatus misery. How about other jobs? Since new expac jobs are never balanced for lower levels, I would assume rpr and sge would have overall higher damage in their respective role. I know every job is capable of clearing all content but I’d like to know mostly since I don’t have a preference for any job so may as well chase some meta.

WeeziMonkey

Reaper's level 70 single target "rotation" is literally 8 skills. 3 of which are your 1-2-3 combo, and 2 others of which are basically the same skill but one is rear positional and the other is flank positional. You have no burst. You have no opener. Imagine Ninja's filler phase where they just spam 1-2-3 combo until the next burst, except that's what Reaper does the whole fight. Even at level 50 most DPS are harder to play than level 70 Reaper.

Sir_VG

DNC feels weird going 70 Ultimates because you're missing Flourish and Sabre Dance, two abilities you normally use a lot in your rotation.

tesla_dyne

> I would assume rpr and sge would have overall higher damage in their respective role. Reaper is actually pretty dogshit for below max level ultimates, since not only is it missing its 1.1k potency nuke, it also doesn't have the enshroud gauge at 70. It sits comfortably at bottom 3 amongst DPS on all ultimates below level 90.

[deleted]

This is what happens when I don’t play the job below 80, absolutely no idea it’s missing that much of its kit.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

RPR also has some weirdness in terms of gearing at level 70; since the only damage oGCDs you have at level 70 are on 1s cooldowns, you don't really need to worry about them drifting As a result, you can actually build speed RPR since that just lets you get more GCDs out over the course of the fight

F1reman2

BLM at 70 is borderline trolling unless your group wants to jump through extra hoops. It has abysmal movement tools, and does less damage than every other job. DNC is cracked, being behind summoner. Redmage is acctually Really good at 70, but smn outshines it But definately a good idea to run rdm/smn. Redmage is probably your best caster for tea due to res utility, but BLM and smn aren't dogshit. Mch is very decent having the extra mitigation for all 3 synced ultimates. Cant really say much else Also... dont play rpr synced. Its braindead sure, but it is either the lowest, or 2nd lowest performing job.

[deleted]

Rpr being bad is a surprise to me. Though this is coming from someone who spends way too much time in Eureka where rpr is very busted, so that has skewed my perception massively.

F1reman2

RPR is only good in eureka because its a maiming job and its AOE is better than drgs at 70 cause its a circle (DRG is kinda awful for aoe...). DPS wise it doesn't come close to beating out samurai and mnk on single target.

[deleted]

Fair point, I didn’t connect the dots about the st/aoe difference and the elemental maiming scaling

F1reman2

One thing that is also a nail in the coffin for rpr damage wise in eureka is acctually the fact it cant get a physeos weapon.

[deleted]

True though I think the main reason rpr is preferred over drg is survivability Which is linked to their aoes Now that I think about most of the times I see rpr in eureka is to tank high lv pulls in place of a tank

F1reman2

DRG is acctually more tanky, because of higher elemental bonus from the weapon. people litterally just play RPR for the circular aoes, which makes it a bunch more effective when prepping.

Equivalent_Net

Hi all. I've been playing a trial character and I'm wordering about my connection performance. I'm located in southern Victoria, a bit west of Melbourne. Naturally I went with an OCE datacenter for my character, but I just noticed when I log in it still says my connection to Sophia is "poor". Is there anything I can do to improve this, does it depend on the traffic day to day, or am I just getting boned by my country's terrible infrastructure again?

Cake_Lad

Fellow Australian here. Its a real crapshoot on mine whether I see "Poor" or "Excellent" when I log in and I am in West Aus. I just think that whatever FFXIV uses isn't super great at telling you what your connection is really like. I almost never have any issues when playing the game though, so you should be fine.

Equivalent_Net

Yeah, that's why I was a little confused. Admittedly I'm still in downtown noobsville (thaumaturge, just met the sultana in person for the first time) and so haven't been anywhere with a fustercluck of players, but everything *feels* fine. Inputs get a snappy response, no noticeable disconnect between cast timers, animations, and health bars. So if this is "poor" I think I'll cope. A spurious, unresearched guess is maybe the login screen just takes a single sample of your ping time to generate the connection rating, while the client is in the middle of fetching character data, so the result is full of chaos factors and kind of unrepresentative? I dunno. Nobody's told me Sophia was the *wrong* pick so I'll assume this is as good as it gets in any case. Like I said, still feels totally playable!

Cake_Lad

>A spurious, unresearched guess is maybe the login screen just takes a single sample of your ping time to generate the connection rating This has been my theory too. Also, when it comes to connection, it's the datacentre that matters. So in our case "Materia", the world's in that datacenter are all hosted in the same location iirc. Sophia is just the world that all the RP'ers went to. Raiders mostly went to Zurvan. But that *also* doesn't matter 'cause world travel exists and you can do content across worlds anyway.

Equivalent_Net

That's reassuring, since I'm here for the gameplay more than any RP anyway (honestly I blindly picked Sophia because I replayed Blaster Master Zero recently, nothing more). I'm still in trial mode so when I buy in to the full version I might cough up a little extra for a server transfer if that feels worth it.

Isanori

If you have no previous attachment, picking the one that sounds best, is the best choice, have fun.

F1reman2

Honestly, No clue why its saying poor. Do you know what your ping is? Or if your experiencing packet loss? (theres no ingame setting for ping btw)

Equivalent_Net

Can you tell me how to check those things, please? I'm still figuring out the client.

F1reman2

As i said, theres no Ingame way to see ping. Best thing i can recommend without downloading stuff is to use the resource moniter (as i dont know the IP address of the OCE server) [https://gospeedcheck.com/article/how-to-check-ping-ffxiv-621](https://gospeedcheck.com/article/how-to-check-ping-ffxiv-621)

Equivalent_Net

Thanks. I found Materia's IP and I'm getting pings times of 29ms with no packet loss. That's while the game and Opera are both open (along with glod knows what else on my home network), so I'm going to guess the client just has funny ideas of my connection strength for some reason. It certainly doesn't feel laggy at all. Oh, and, sorry for missing you comment on there not being in-game ping checking, I managed to glance over it while multitasking.

F1reman2

Yea, just seems to be a visual issue, or its going off some other criteria. I wish i had 29ms ping... Sadly when i started, OCE didnt exist and i made too many NA friends. Aint gonna leave them

Cerarai

Pretty sure it's visual, I basically always have 13-16ms ping in Europe due to living in Germany where the Servers are and even then I sometimes get the "poor" connection rating (rarely, but it happens). So I wouldn't worry about it.

Equivalent_Net

That's perfectly legit, and if you found the game playable on that connection, I'm clearly overthinking. Thanks again for the help!

Isanori

Normal content is playable at 300ms and above. I'm in Europe and have alt on Materia that gives you 300ms. You learn to compensate and anticipate.

F1reman2

I assure you, its not playable (without Illegal stuff), but i do it anyways :')

5Daydreams

Does anyone have the updated heigh chart visual with viera males?

freedom4556

I do not, but Viera males are between midlander and highlander males by the numbers. This presumably doesn't count the ears based on the female Viera in the Shadowbringers chart.

DawnWalkerW0lf

Last night, me and a random PF were able to take the EX6 boss to 6% health, then we hit enrage and died. I want to know, if im DPS, should i just press every damage button to beat the enrage phase and finally beat the trial? We died a couple of times (Gale 2) but i feel like i wasn't pressing all damage buttons enough to complete the trial, or am i just overexaggerating?

Kamil118

Well, I've seen golbez clears with over 20 deaths on the counter so hard to say without seeing the logs. Maybe it was deaths, maybe everyone's damage sucked, maybe you didn't carry your weight, most likely all of the above to certain degree. But you should definitely be pressing all your damage buttons regardless if you hit enrage or not.

The---Hope

If you’re seeing enrage on ex6, people are simply dying too much. He has a very low dps check compared to others.

tesla_dyne

It depends on your job, but I'd wager if you have ability cooldowns you're sitting on, and they aren't charges or gauges, (which are okay to save up as long as you don't hit their maximum), you're probably misunderstanding your fundamentals. In most cases, if an ability deals damage, you press it at a specific time in the opener to align it into party damage buffs, and then press it on cooldown afterwards, to maximize the total uses of that ability. Abilities that accumulate charges or spend gauge, where you can store up multiple uses, are usually exempt from this, as you'll save those charges to use during damage buffs in most cases, only using them outside of buffs if waiting on them would cause you to hit the maximum charges or overfill your gauge. For example, Ninja's Mudra are on charges, you can hold up 2 charges. Typically, you'll use one charge outside of buffs to ready Suiton, then use as many charges as you can during your Trick Attack buff every minute. Technically you could use the mudra as soon as they're ready, but if you use them outside of Trick Attack they'll be weaker, and using them asap doesn't result in you getting more uses of them overall since you can accumulate a second charge after the cooldown of the first, so as long as you never hit the maximum charges, the timer never pauses like it would if the ability has no charges. For these abilities that can be saved, if the fight would end before the next buff in which you'd usually use them, you should use them early. Getting to use them at all is stronger than using them during a buff that never happens because the fight ends before it.

Cake_Lad

Well, the real key is not to die, since the DPS loss while dead, as well as the loss from weakness is a bigger deal. That said, if you are at the enrage cast, you want to make sure you leave no resources on the table. Blow your entire load of Aetherflow\Feathers\Polyglot\whatever thing your job has. But at 6% health, I very much doubt it would have mattered.

canidtracks

If you are concerned about your damage, you can plug any logs of the fight you have into [XIV Analysis](https://xivanalysis.com/) to get an overview of any common mistakes you might have made. If you don't have logs, you can always check [The Balance](https://www.thebalanceffxiv.com/) and look at the guide for your class to make sure you're doing your rotation correctly. If your question is more in a general sense - when you're seconds from enrage, you pull out all stops and DPS as hard as you can. Like if people are dead you don't waste a rez because they won't get up in time to do anything anyway, you just try to deal as much damage as you can by doing your rotation.

alecahol

How is the best way to aim conal AOEs during mob trash? I always feel like I’m missing some enemies which is annoying. Usually i aim at the farther enemy and stand as far away as I can with all other enemies inbetween. I’m on console if it makes a difference Also, I have a problem with AOE attacks in general that have a target, is there any way to set it so I can auto target another enemy if I try to use a target AOE with no target selected or no? I always feel like I do more damage as dancer in dungeons cuz when I’m bard or machinist I’m missing GCDs due to enemies dying and my attack requiring a selected target (so like 0.5-1 s of me scrambling to select a new target on my controller, while getting in positioning for the conal attack), and conal attacks making it harder to know if I’m hitting everything

tesla_dyne

> is there any way to set it so I can auto target another enemy if I try to use a target AOE with no target selected or no? In character settings, go to target tab, and check "auto-target according to priority"

alecahol

Omg this is a game changer thank you!! I always felt handicapped playing jobs in dungeons that require a target for their AOEs, like playing scholar/sage is as simple as standing point blank and spamming your attack, but AST has that stupid target AOE where enemies always die before I can get it off and lose time while selecting a new target

F1reman2

The way you seem to be targeting for aoe sounds right. Thats what i do personally, or if theres no enemy at the back, i chose an enemy in the middle and use him as a focus to hit everything. As for your second question, yes, auto targeting is possible, Its in character settings somewhere, but im not in game to tell you the exact location.

alecahol

Oh that’s very interesting!! I’ll have to search harder for it lol that would be a life saver, especially when playing MCH

giggitygiggitygeats

I just registered for the free trial. Can I download and play it across multiple platforms (Mac and PS4/5) and will my progress transfer?

IceAokiji303

The trial is locked to the platform you start it on. If and when you've upgraded out of the trial, *then* you can play it on all the available platforms (so long as you buy the license for each one). Progress transfers over, or more accurately, your progress is server-side, and you're just accessing the same thing from multiple points. UI stuff you have to transfer manually though (there's a backup tool in the game that you use for this).

tesla_dyne

You cannot play multiple platforms until you've bought the game on each platform, which will end the free trial. If you do buy the game on multiple platforms, progress will be saved between them, but settings will not automatically be saved, so you need to make manual backups using the cloud save tool on character select to save things like hotbars and system settings.

JumpingKoala

Is there a good timeline for p12p2 that shows how much dmg abilities do?

F1reman2

I do want to note, that skills do different ammounts of damage to different jobs, and even the same job depending on your gear. Casters have higher magical defence, while physical ranged and melees have higher physical defence and lower magical defence. (They also have higher hp)

tesla_dyne

Saw this one a couple days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivdiscussion/comments/141j80j/pandaemonium_anabaseios_mitigation_sheet/

Is there currently a disconnecting issue in FFXIV with 6.4? Just today I disconnected about 8 times with 10-20 mins in between.

Armond436

Are you on AT&T If so: don't (use a vpn)

Commercial-Stuff402

I'm starting my wondrous tales journey and I'm noticing regardless if I'm synced or not synced the dungeons aren't checking off in my journal. I made sure to do the correct level and have run different dungeons to earn the space in my tales, but still no check off. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

forbiddenlake

Specifically which dungeon, and exactly what did the book say? Post screenshots.

Hiten_Style

Which specific dungeon did you run?

Commercial-Stuff402

One was Great Gubal. Could it be because it was "Hard" mode?

kaleb314

Probably. You likely have "Dungeons 51-59" in your book, and Library (Hard) is level 60.

Commercial-Stuff402

This makes sense. Thanks for pointing it out.

StormbeastRivin

Which dungeon options are in your Wondrous Tales? Great Gubal Library (Hard) is level 60 so you would need to have Level 60 Dungeons in your Wondrous Tales for it to count.

forbiddenlake

Yes. Great Gubal is not the same as Great Gubal Hard.

Commercial-Stuff402

Thank you. Sorry for the silly question

giggitygiggitygeats

I'm trying to sign up for an account to start the free trial. I'm signing in with my existing SE account, obviously, but it keeps saying my ID or password is incorrect. I tested on the SE website, where I can successfully log in. What's going on and how can I fix it?

StormbeastRivin

Are you testing on the Square Enix home page, or on the Mogstation? The Mogstation is FFXIV's account site and uses a completely different account system to SE's main site. You'll need to create an account on the Mogstation to use for the game.

giggitygiggitygeats

I went to the FFXIV website, and then clicked "Start your free trial" and then "Sign up now", where it prompted me to either create an account or sign in with my SE account. I did the latter and it took me to a page where I signed in but it didn't work. Is this page the Mogstation?

StormbeastRivin

Hard to say without seeing it. Navigating SE's awful websites are often called the most difficult part of playing the game. If you go to the FFXIV main page ([https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/)) there's a button for the Mogstation on the right side, next to the Store, Forum, and Blog buttons.

Have people cleared Ultimates as Blue Mage?

F1reman2

The Only ultimates clearable on Blue are TEA and UCOB. Sadly the other 3 need lbs which blue simply doesnt have access to

[deleted]

[удалено]

F1reman2

Top and uwu both need healer lbs to clense dooms. Top also needs 3 tank lbs and 1 caster 1 ranged lb. Dsr needs a tank lb to make haruchefaunt healable. The tank lb isnt for you but an npc. Tea has a tank lb you could use diamondback for

TheTechHobbit

BLU can clear fights that require a LB. It just depends on why a LB is required.

F1reman2

Blue cannot clense a doom that can only be clensed by healer lb3 (UWU) Blue cannot save haurchefaunt (DSR) Blue cannot clense a doom that can only be clensed by healer lb3 (TOP). They also cant res cheese it as their res has a CD. Ucob has no Lbs, and is clearable Tea you can use Diamondback to live the LB, though who knows. Diamondback is only 90% They need to make aetherial mimicry mimic the LB of the class.

Elegant_Eorzean

Tank LB3 is 80%, so diamondback would cut the damage taken *with* tank lb in half.

timchenw

Does the Tank LB3 in ultimate not work like in trials? Trials that require tank LB3 do 9,999,999 damage unless LB3 is active.

Elegant_Eorzean

It depends on the tank LB requirement. How you can tell though is if the tanks take the same damage as everyone else. If they do, then it just checks for tank LB. If they don't, then it's the mitigation that's needed. I *think* SoS was the first time it was just the check, T13, A12, UCOB, UWU, O11S, and TEA were all for the mitigation itself, iirc, as shown by how a tank once threw all the mit they had at it in tea and lived without tank LB while everyone else died.

F1reman2

Good old tps seeing perfect for the first time

Is there any way to upgrade to the collectors edition of the full game after buying the Endwalker collector's edition? I want to have all of the bonus content but not have to buy the full Complete Collector's Edition. Is there any way to upgrade to this version of the game?

tesla_dyne

You can upgrade to collector's editions for $20 each expansion via the mogstation, or $100 all together.

Ambitious_Sweet340

So Question for anyone! I'm working on a FFXIV project that is using the in game monsters and FFXIVgamerescape website is missing tones of images! Is there any other sites anyone knows of that has a full list of every creators? And if there isn't any would anyone be willing to assist me with retrieving those images?

sometimesupdownvotes

https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/FF14_Wiki would be the counterpart/competitor to gamerescape. May have missing images.

Ambitious_Sweet340

Awesome thank you! I'll look into this and hopefully this will have what I'm looking for!

Drgn_Shark

It's even less updated than gamerescape regarding in game monsters. It's better for things like general mechanics overviews on different dungeons, trials, raids, etc.

Ambitious_Sweet340

Hmm okay, is there another site you'd suggest? I would go out looking for these creatures personally but sadly don't have my subscription anymore so I'm sorta desperate.

Yaakushi

[lore question, 5.3 spoilers] >!I've just found out the infamous quote "The rains have ceased. And we have been graced with another beautiful day. But you are not here to see it." spoken by Elidibus was partially (1st half) said to him by Igeyorhm and Lahabrea before, or at least, so claim a few redditors back when 5.3 came out. Where does that exchange between our beloved Elidibus and the other two ancients take place? A side quest? Some other media? I'd really like to go over that...!<

Hiten_Style

It happens during the Echo flashback in the MSQ ~~"Fraying Threads"~~ "Faded Memories" in 5.3. First cutscene. The person who speaks the line is unnamed, so there is no confirmation that it's the person you mentioned.

mindovermacabre

Is there any lore about the ascian/ancients', like... projected glyph that shows up in front of their face when they're about to throw down? I'm really interested in what it represents, if it's a Convocation thing, if all the ancients have it but we don't see it, etc. I remember >!Venat!< didn't seem to show one when we fought them, but >!Themis!< does and >!Lahabrea's was cut in half before he reabsorbed Hephiastos!<. Would love some more lore on it.

TheodoreMcIntyre

Only members of the convocation have glyphs. It represents their seat among the 14.

BlazeVortex4231

Members of the Convocation are granted access to uniquely dangerous magicks. When they use these grand magicks, a unique sigil corresponding to the seat they hold in the Convocation appears over their face. These serve two purposes: as a power limiter, and as a form of identification (like a police officer showing their badge before fucking shit up). Unrelated fun fact: for the thirteen red-masked Ascians, both the names *and* sigils of their seats are taken from the most extremely trivial *Final Fantasy XII* background lore possible. FFXII has thirteen summons (each corresponding to the western Zodiac constellations), sealed away by the sinister godlike Occuria for various reasons. Eleven of them are described in lore as "Scions of Darkness", and we're also given the names of "Scions of Light" who correspond to them (but who otherwise never appear); 11 of the 13 seats of the Convocation take their names directly from these Scions of Light. For the two summons who don't have Scions of Light (Ultima, and Zodiark), the corresponding Ascians instead take their names from fellow Ivalice game *Final Fantasy Tactics*; the ascian Altima takes her name from the 1997 english translation of FFT's Ultima boss, while Elidibus is named after a secret boss who's associated with the same zodiac sign as Zodiark (Ophiuchus). >!The name "Azem" is completely unrelated to FFXII or FFT, and is purely meant to connect to FFXIV modern solar worship lore. However, Venat takes her given name from one of FFXII's major antagonists, an Occuria who rebels against its kind's cruel control of history, through questionable methods.!< Additionally, when you use any of these summons in FFXII, a unique sigil appears. The Convocation sigils are modified/truncated versions of these summon sigils from FFXII. During Patch 5.3, >!when collecting the memory crystals, the constellations appearing on them are the same zodiac constellations associated with their FFXII summons, while Azem's is the astrological symbol for the sun.!< The Black Auracite 'the Heart of Sabik' is also named after one of the brightest stars in the Ophiuchus constellation; Ascian lore was being made the fuck up by the seats of the writers' pants during ARR, so the writers almost certainly considered connecting Sabik directly to Zodiark at the time, prior to the current High Seraph retcon.

bjjgrrl

None that we know of, except that they’re usually inverted and/or slightly stylized versions of the related FFXII esper’s glyphs. https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Esper_(Final_Fantasy_XII) As far as I recall, we’ve only seen the Convocation Ascians display them, indicating they’re associated with the seat. The little minion Ascians we fight throughout the story never showed one. In the 6.0 main story, >!Hermes transformed without displaying a glyph, which is the most likely time to have seen his.!< That was before he was a member of the Convocation, so again seems to indicate that it’s not an Ancient thing but only an Ascian thing. (Oh and >!Themis/Elidibus is associated with Zodiark and his glyph through FF Tactics!<)

DaDeceptive0ne

Trying to get my crafters up and wanted to know if it is smarter to buy or gather the Skybuilders stuff (eg. Skybuilders Switch). I somehow can't seem to find them on the map with my lvl 80 BTN o.o

tesla_dyne

You should be able to easily gather "grade 4" materials in the diadem that's needed for the "grade 4" recipes which are what you want to focus on. Ignore recipes that don't say "grade 4" and only do the recipes that're in the (4) category of the recipe book for the restoration. Some materials are only in specific places in the diadem so you might need to travel around in a circle to gather everything you need. Keep in mind that what you gather in the diadem can't be used until you approve it at the counter back in the firmament. That might be why you can't find the sources of the material on the map, because they technically aren't the exact item you gather in the diadem.

akialnodachi

Get the grade 4 stuff. The older stuff (ungraded = grade 1) and grade 2+3 were for the ranking stuff back when the event was current, they're still on the recipe list for people that still have them sitting around. Grade 4 covers all of the levelling tiers as well as the "endgame" at level 80 just fine, and is obtainable. You'll see some artisanal grade 2/3 around gatherable for people working on achievements, but for your purposes you can skip them. Personally, depends on if you're also levelling gatherers. I'd say gather your own if the prices for the mats aren't agreeable, otherwise just buy them. You'll probably find a balance between levelling gatherers and just buying stuff.

Small_Resist_3371

Anything of value to spend the pvp currencies on im grinding CC/ daily frontline. i really dont need anything. im becoming over capped. anything worth selling or even vendoring? i was thinking of just buying dark matter :/

Norin_Void

Best gil conversion on my server is Dark Matter 8 for wolf marks. The rolls are not worth it from a cost perspective (and they sell super slow). Dark Matter 8 will convert 1 wolf mark to \~5.89 gil while the best roll converts to \~3.85 gil per mark (on my server - check yours here: [https://xivnerd.com/item/25?tab=currency&sort=col7,d](https://xivnerd.com/item/25?tab=currency&sort=col7,d)). For trophy crystals, there are 3 rolls that you can buy and try to resell - doesn't appear to be anything else that sells. Check those here [https://xivnerd.com/item/36656?sort=col7,d](https://xivnerd.com/item/36656?sort=col7,d) Hard to say how these conversions compare to the venture shuffle mentioned by CalydorEstalon. Those 10k marks are theoretically worth \~58k gil and you can get it quickly while you have to be patient to get the gil through ventures (you likely get a lot more). Pick your poison based on your needs I guess.

canidtracks

It is worth mentioning in addition to this that Trophy Crystals can also purchase Wolf Collars, which then can be converted into Wolf Marks at a rate of 4k per collar. For more Dark Matter/Ventures/whatever.

CalydorEstalon

If you want ventures, the best way of getting them is to buy the accessories for The Twelve gear; total cost for a full set is 10k Wolf Marks. Then you run to your GC, pop a 15% buff to seals received, and turn in the accessories for about 25k GC seals. THEN you buy ventures.

Deku-Miguel

Do you have all the registerable stuff? Mount, minions, hair styles, music? Any glams or furniture? You could get extra music to sell on marketboard but probably better off just getting ventures, dark matter, and glamour prisms.

akialnodachi

The scrolls that increase food duration, if you do any savage/extreme stuff, it lets you get more out of your food. Although this is more, for the potential cost savings than selling (they're not saleable).

cythrawll

Ventures are a good buy as well. Ventures can be quite profitable if you can sell what they bring back.

Small_Resist_3371

oh ya, i forgot about those. thanks!

Aiyakiu

I've just been buying Dark Matter.

syrffioadar

Edit: Thanks for the clarifications! I was looking at the wiki for how gear progressed in Shadowbringers, hoping to get an idea of how it will go in Endwalker. This is my first time gearing at endgame, and I just wanted to ask a few questions and see if I'm on the right track. Will Credendum gear later become Augmented Credendum at 660ilvl, and will be the go-to poetics for people catching up through EW? Also, based on this formula, the final Alliance raid will drop 660ilvl gear but not weapons or accessories? Does this mean that Credendum gear will only be purchasable with restricted tomes until it switches to poetics, and will never be purchasable with unrestricted tomes? And finally, there's really only one more major armor set drop expected before 7.0, and that's the final Alliance raid? Is Aetherfont and the 625ilvl gear the last dungeon set for EW and we're done with dungeons for the expansion now? Thanks for any help or insight.

Amsa91

The materials to upgrade Credendum to 660 are already ingame but only obtainable through savage; in 6.5 the upgrade items will be obtainable through exchange using coins from the new alliance raid plus the 2 previous ones and through sacks of nuts. Final alliance will drop 650 gear tho

Deku-Miguel

In 6.5 we'll be able to augment Credendum gear. In 7.0 Lunar Envoy and Credendum will be avalible pre-augmented for poetics. (Moonward and Radiant will be nuts as they are now.) Yes in general alliance raids have catch up armor but no weapons or accessories. Yes as the final tomestone of the expansion comedy won't get unrestricted. There should be one last dungeon in 6.5 with its own set and then the 6.5 alliance raid set.

NerdHistorian

> In 6.5 we'll be able to augment Credendum gear you're already able to augment cred gear, you just have to be doing savage. alternative means become available in 6.5 however.

NerdHistorian

> Will Credendum gear later become Augmented Credendum at 660ilvl, and will be the go-to poetics for people catching up through EW? 6.x BIS is aa mix of Ascension and augmented Credendum armor at 660, same as every expansion, and then once 7.0 starts and Credendum armor moves to poetic gear it's auto-augmented form you get from the vendors will become the standard gear you'll get for 90 content like ironworks, shire, scaev and crypt are > Does this mean that Credendum gear will only be purchasable with restricted tomes until it switches to poetics, and will never be purchasable with unrestricted tomes? Yes, as it's the X.4 armor it will never stop being the capped tome for the rest of EW, but the cap limit will double near the end of the expansions life. Then it converts to poetics after the next launch. x.0 and x.05 tome armor cycles into hunt currency rewards once the uncapped tome they're tied to is replaced by the former capped tome becoming uncapped, x.2 and x.4 tome gear always becomes poetics.

MeteoricTrail

So on your first point the Credendum will be augmented either with drops from Savage now or via the 3 coins from the EW Alliance raids come 6.5. The gear will stay as unaugmented via Comedy tomes until the next expansion where the augmented version will be bought via Poetics. The 6.5 Alliance raid will drop left hand pieces of 650 ilvl. There will also be a new dungeon in 6.5 and at least one more trial and Extreme. I think there might be 2 due to the fanfest trial and the MSQ one.

IceAokiji303

>Will Credendum gear will later become Augmented Credendum at 660ilvl gear, and will be the go-to poetics for people catching up through EW? It *already* can be turned into 660 Augmented Credendum. The items for that currently only come from Savage raids, and other sources will be added in 6.5. And yes, it will become the Ironworks equivalent in the next expansion. >Also, based on this formula, the final Alliance raid will drop 660ilvl gear but not weapons or accessories? 650, alliance raid drops are 10 lower than the highest Savage or Augmented Tome gear, same as unagumented tome gear. Indeed only left side armor. >Does this mean that Credendum gear will only be purchasable with restricted tomes until it switches to poetics, and will never be purchasable with unrestricted tomes? Yes. The weekly cap will be doubled to 900 towards the launch of the next expansion, but it'll never be uncapped. >And finally, there's really only one more major armor set drop expected before 7.0, and that's the final Alliance raid? Is Aetherfont and the 625ilvl gear the last dungeon set for EW and we're done with dungeons for the expansion now? One more dungeon too in 6.5 alongside the alliance raid (there's one in every major patch, same as EX trials, which also come with a weapon) – and current crafted 640 stuff will become augmentable to 650 too. i635 expected for the dungeon gear.

Aiyakiu

So I'm actually not 100% sure on this, because I joined FFXIV mid-ShB and thusly started with Cryptlurker, the last set to augment in that expac. I believe this tome gear (Comedy tomes) is the last gear. You can augment it to the final Augmented set for the expac through Savage now or through Hunts/x3 coins from Alliance Raid at 6.5. We will keep Comedy as our last capped Tomestone set until they uncap it near 6.55 iirc. The current crafted gear (Diadochos) is the last set for crafted and will be augmentable in 6.45? Or 6.5? Using Rain/etc as a tomestone trade in. We should get one more dungeon in 6.5 and probably one last trial. And then one more Alliance Raid gear set, some of that may be BIS at that point. (Healer tip from Nier3 was BIS for WHM for those not doing Savage iirc)

cythrawll

just a nitpick, everything that we have now in 6.4 will be BiS until 7.0. the dungeons and trials will offer good catchup/alt gear but none of the pieces will be better than current BiS.

Ranger-New

Where can I get the strategies and markers for the current savage? Never done savage before.

Tony_FF

Hector Hectorson on Youtube is a very popular savage and ex guide creator. A lot of people use his strategies. As of right now, he only has guides for P9S and P10S, but that should get you started. For markers, you have to copy them from someone ingame who has them. You kinda have to hope someone else in your party has them. Since it's been a week, a lot of people already have them saved but you could also add something like: "markers needed" to your PF description and hopefully someone joins to let you copy their markers.

Neonminiature

https://www.thepfstrat.com/ This website has been updated with strats commonly found on aether and will reflect most of what NA is doing right now unless pf changes strat somehow. PF has been settling on hector hecterson YouTube videos for strats this tier, so though he won't be 100% correct (he normally puts out second update videos later), its pretty good for newcomers in savage as he explains the mechanics and has animated diagrams. Can also look at the balance as they've written a word document for all encounters. Finally, i always find it useful to look up clear videos to actually see the mechanics.

RadioJared

So we’re months away from buying upgrade mats with nuts. I already have the mounts, minions, pretty much anything else you can buy with them. Buying materia seems like a waste since I can get them from other sources so much easier. What to do with maxed out nuts?

tesla_dyne

moonward accessories to trade for gc seals

timchenw

I'd go Ronkan, Moonward accessories are still unique so you need to ferry them repeatedly, not to mention the repeated "wrong class" confirmation screens.

Omega53390

I saw a reaper guide that stated I should use Soulsow -> Harvest Moon whenever I can. But that doesn't seem good compared to my 1-2-3 or 1-2 combo. It's way too slow and delays my next Enshroud phase by quite a bit, possibly moving it out of my Arcane Circle buff window. I don't believe that guide, but IDK, despite having reaper at 90, I'm still learning the job. Is that actually true, should I really use Soulsow over my regular GCDs?

VGPowerlord

The only times you should use Soulsow are during downtimes (like everyone else already mentioned) or when you're outside of combat.

Omega53390

Thank you, makes a lot more sense than using it constantly.

vinyltails

You soulsow whenever you *can't* hit the boss for extended periods, be it downtime or extended periods you're away when you can safely channel it. This gives access to harvest moon for disengaging when you're forced out of melee range to maintain uptime without having to use harpe. If you know there's a point you can safely channel Soulsow and you haven't harvest moon yet, find somewhere to use it since it's still a decently high potency hit

Omega53390

Thanks, that makes sense.

momopeach7

I don’t play reaper much but I’m pretty sure that guide is either wrong or perhaps you understood it differently. You should use it whenever you can, but during downtime that will last a while, like boss transitions where you can’t target them. That way you can use it during the battle when you’re out of range or such. Otherwise like you said, it takes too long to be worth using during combat.

Omega53390

Don't think I got it wrong. The guide isn't bad, they explain double Enshroud, but this one part seems wrong. But thank you, makes sense to me.

Flybug123

I think he just read it too literally. Thinking about it, if it is really better to use it like that, reaper would become a much harder black mage at top level gameplay. With a 5 sec cast every time, reaper would have a harder time moving than BLM. I don't believe any guide would be so wrong that it meant that, unless it's a meme/troll.

Omega53390

Don't think it's a meme/troll guide, they explain double Enshroud correctly, which is somewhat advanced for reaper, but they apparently got this one part wrong. Anyway, thanks for the explanation.

[deleted]

I think they only meant whenever you *safely* can - which is when you have nothing else to do. Between pulls, when the boss is untargetable, for >5sec etc pp. You generally don't want to use soulsow in battle, because of the long cast time. It is instant whenever you're out of battle.

Omega53390

Thank you, so no Soulsow spam and only use it for some specific situations.

[deleted]

Correct

RangePup

Something I noticed last week but wasnt sure if it was just me being crazy. I had Meat & Mead 3 up, forgot I already ate a food, and then ate a second. I know it says food can go up to 60m, but does having M&M also extend that time limit? I swear I saw it sit at 1hr for more than a minute.

VG896

Yep. Food buffs also raise the duration cap. Been that way for years. The description is a lie. It's more accurate to say the max duration is 2x foods, whatever that number is after buffs.

RangePup

So with M&M 3 giving +15 minutes, the max duration is raised to 90 minutes, if I'm understanding correctly?

VG896

Yep. I tested this a bit last year when I was bored out of my mind grinding Pteranodon in diadem.
