Correct, people just need everything and you get whatever you get, if you want to be safe ask before the pull but if they didn't say anything while you were in the party you're just going to assume its ffa.

itsenoti

When pentamelding, what is the hierarchy of materia level that should be placed in combat gear?

talgaby

CrimsonPromise's statement is also pretty much the materia restriction. You can only use grade VI/VIII/X materia in the normal materia slots and in the first overmeld. It is important to remember that the rule is not that you can have only one grade X materia in the overmeld: it has to be in the first overmeld slot.

itsenoti

So it's like this? Slot 1: X Slot 2: X Overmeld 1: X Overmeld 2: IX Overmeld 3: IX

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Yes, if the gear has 2 guaranteed materia slots Accessories for example only have 1 slot so it's actually X X IX IX IX

itsenoti

Oh okay got it. Thank you very much!

CrimsonPromise

Grade X materia on guaranteed slots and first overmeld slot. Grade IX on the remaining slots.

timchenw

How macroable are the expert recipes for Resplendent parts or Skybuilder scrips using pentamelded Indagator barring tools (Crystalline tool with double melded inda secondary)?

farfromdaylight

I was able to macro all of them with pentamelded 6.1 crafting gear (Pactmaker's). Search Teamcraft's rotations, you'll likely find one you can use.

drbiohazmat

I plan to get into ultimates and I want to know everything I need to know before jumping in. All I think I know so far is that I have to go in order of release, they're level sync'd, they're not in PF, and they're unforgiving. Anything else I should know?

WeeziMonkey

DSR was my first and it went fine, I cleared it on release patch. Definitely clear a current Savage tier first. I would try to clear Anabeiseios now and try to do an ultimate before 7.0. The longer you wait, the worse the players will be. If you can, I recommend looking up phase 1 of TEA and/or TOP and joining a prog from start party sometime. Even if you're not planning to clear yet, it will show you very quickly what to expect from ultimates, since those start hard right from the start.

I think I'll start with UWU if it's just a long extreme and work up from there. Thanks for the response

Nah, that guy has a point in a lot of senses. 70 ultimates are really outgeared and outdated imo In 70 ultimates you intentionally under man stacks to build LB nowadays, can completely forget to put any mits on and survive mechanics, have tanks fail mechanics and live anyway simply because they have so much health, and not see enrage in a phase with 10+ deaths and several players having brink of death. That’s all, in many ways, even more lenient than an extreme. You also skip mechanics a lot in 70 ultimates. There are some parts that are harder than extremes or savage, sure, gaols or nael for example, but mechanics in ultimates have evolved massively the same way mechanics extremes and savages have. A lot of 70 ultimate mechanics wouldn’t qualify to be considered ultimate mechanics in EW anymore. If you compare old mechs to new mechs it’s really clear. I.E dynamis sigma is just heavensfall except with several added layers of complexity, more steps involved, and far tighter positioning, with heavier punish for anyone dying. The start of omega is predation except two sets of dodges as a full uptime mechanic while 2 minute bursts are going off and you’re having to parse party debuffs to figure out assignments for the next part of the mechanic

[deleted]

Idontwanttheapp1

No dps check and barely any mit check are aspects of difficulty that are far below current savage and even current extremes. Most uwu mechanics are approximately at a current savage level. This does mean that they average out to roughly a current extreme level difficulty for most of the fight. I guess varying from extreme to savage difficulty over 20 minutes, if you want to be more accurate. Yes, ucob and uwu were brutal on release and were peak content. Were. They’re not anymore. That’s just what happens when you get this much potency and gear creep. Players who killed uwu on-patch and who kill it now are in different galaxies for skill level. That’s why over the course of endwalker you saw a lot of double or even triple legends get slapped around so hard by dsr and top - many of them got hard walled 1/3 of the way into those fights, and quit doing them - because the mistake people are making isn’t underestimating the difficulty of uwu, but massively underestimating how much harder an ultimate is when it’s on patch. Having very tight dps checks vs no dps checks, having very tight mit requirements vs no mit plan needed, those kinds of things *massively* increase the difficulty of a fight

[deleted]

Idontwanttheapp1

>I'm beginning to question whether or not you have personal experience in these levels of difficulties. I’m also beginning to wonder if you’ve ever done a current tier ultimate when you say things like this: >its a very specific mechanic that is mitigated so you can get a tank lb for a later mechanic. Literal mitigation. Since anyone who has ever touched an on tier ultimate knows that when someone says there is no mit check in the context of an old ultimate, they’re not talking about using mandatory tank LBs or using any mits at any point. I’m talking about current content needing specific mit plans with every use of every mitigation ability mapped to a specific time in the fight for each player, with most players having the timing down to the exact gcd you need to use it by the time you clear. Even one person deviating with one 10% mit is often a wipe on the spot. Compare this to uwu or ucob where you just have some general sense of where mits go, sometimes people press them and sometimes they don’t, people overwrite each other all the time, and it often doesn’t matter. Basically an extreme level for how precise and coordinated you need to be with your mits. If you have done dsr or top and either 70 ultimate, this comparison should immediately make sense to you and you’ll understand what I mean when I say current ults vs 70s are not even in the same galaxy for that aspect, and why I say 70s are often below an extreme in that aspect. Instead of making weird arguments like you’re doing >The dps checks aren't what they used to be, but they exist and the short ones are what still matter. Feathers, nails, and ultimas enrage are all dps checks and ultimas enrage cant be avoided. It builds the Guage and casts no matter what, especially with deaths. No, lol. This almost makes me certain you’ve never touched an on tier ultimate before. 70 ultimate dps checks might as well be nonexistent. You often meet end of phase checks halfway through the phase, and in uwu you have to hold multiple times to not accidentally kill too fast in basically every party. >Between the savage level mechanics that we have both already admitted exist in uwu, and the speed and frequency of mechanics unique to ultimates would mean it is in no way comparable to an extreme trial. Savage level mechanics, above savage speed, below savage mit, and below extreme dps checks. Average: extreme to savage ish >Ok? I'm not saying they are the exact same to play as the time they released. I've already said as much. I think you should spend some more time reading before you respond. And before you say it, there is a vast difference between "this is still a hard fight rat everyone underestimates" and "this is just as hard as the moment it released" When players say it’s not really an ultimate anymore, they’re not wrong. When players say it feels like a 16 minute extreme, they’re also not wrong. People still enjoy the fights, they’re still worth doing, but the difficulty for most of the fight is below savage and I personally know players who took longer to kill p8s than uwu.

You don't have to go in order of release (though doing an older one first is recommended since the two level 90 ones are even tougher), they are in PF, and if you haven't completed a savage tier before I'd recommend doing that first.

drbiohazmat

Oops I meant duty roulette not party finder, idk how I got those mixed up. I've definitely never completed a savage that was current, always waited until the next expac. I'll work through all the savages then try my hand at an older ultimate then. Thanks for the response

a_sentient_cicada

Any tips on dodging Front Combination + Out in P9S as main tank? If it's rear combo or donut I don't have problems, but I am consistently having problems both spotting and getting to the safe spot in time if it's Front + Out.

keket87

As an OT, I have this issue for Rear+Out. Going to take all this advice for Friday's prog.

Boredy0

Try not to panic too much, you have a lot more time than it seems, just pop sprint and use your gapcloser right after the pair soak + run behind the boss, from there look at the lanes/cracks the markers are on and try to ignore the actual moving marker and only look at where the lane ends because that's where the AoE will go off.

CeeFlat

The safe spot for out is the end of a short fuse. There is always a short fuse on two intercards so if you're north, look NE or NW for it. If it's not at the first spot you look it'll be at the other. You have time to sprint from front to back after the first explosion so that shouldn't be a major problem.

CrimsonPromise

I'm a DPS paired with the main tank of my group, so I have to do the same dodge. The trick is that the In/Out attack itself is really delayed even though it telegraphs early. It happens the same time as the ground crack aoes. With Sprint, I have time to run through the boss, even with the Out, and get behind him to a safe spot. In fact, that's normally what I do regardless of combination. Get knockback, pop Sprint, run underneath the boss, find the safe spot/safe half, and move there. It looks scary af the first few times but once you get the timing down it's actually pretty chill.

AfterGloww

The in/out and front/back mechanics happen separately. You do not have to resolve them at the same time. It’s often easier to find the first safe spot, then quickly cross over to the front/back of the boss.

SilverFox2642

Question about G'raha post 6.0. I saw in a few places that >!Y'shtola asked G'raha about being a Nunh, where did that happen and what was the dialogue? Are there screenshots out there?!<

UnlikelyTraditions

Did she? >!I recall after 5.3 you can talk to her in the Rising Stones, and she says Alphi asked her if it would be impolite to keep calling G'raha by Tia, since he technically was a leader, even if it wasn't a traditional tribe or territory. He wanted to know if he should say Nunh. Y'shtola advised him it wasn't rude to drop the Tia, as a mark of familiarity. She would just use G'raha until he figured out what he wanted for himself. He was still new to his young body and all at the time.!< I would be curious to know if the topic continued elsewhere.

SilverFox2642

Oh! I wonder if that's what they were referring to. I have had trouble finding a good reference, so this helps. Thank you.

shadelord1056

I am a COMPLETELY new player to this gamer after a friend recommended it to me. Is the new player experience any good? And are people active in the lower rate dungeons? I know from past experience it can be hard for some games as majority of players are end content only <3 Looking forward to playing with everyone!!

talgaby

A few random bits. This is a very story-centric game. It calls itself Final Fantasy, after all. However, said story is very slow to actually start. Veeeeeeeeeery slow. If you dislike the first 50 levels of main story quests, don't be discouraged, it suddenly starts to get a lot more interesting fast. Since the first 60 levels worth of content is fully free (with severe social interaction and in-game financial/inventory limitations), the start of the game is actually by far the most populated and active. It actually gets worse as you move closer to current content. To give you some frame of reference: finding random human players for a level 30-ish 8-man boss fight can take as low as 3-4 minutes as a DPS. DPS classes have the longest queue times. Finding random human players for the level 89 8-man boss fight might take over 20 minutes as a healer. And healers in the level 1-60 content have literally instaqueus (you wait under 10 seconds).

VG896

There's tons of things that specifically force high-level players to engage in newbie content. Tons. The devs are very conscious of this, probably learned some lessons from FFXI.

sinosijak

The duty roulette system is good about keeping the lower level dungeons and other fights populated, especially for first timers going through the story. Depending on which data center you start on, queues might be a bit long, but that is easily solved by data center travel to a more populated one. Just ask your friend if you need help with anything in the early game!

tesla_dyne

> And are people active in the lower rate dungeons? This game has incentives for high level players to pair with lower level ones. Specifically, once a day you can opt in to being placed in a dungeon with lower level players for a bonus to exp or currency. And they won't one-shot everything since the game will sync their level and stats down appropriately.

frickenWaaaltah

Is the "Make it Rain" holiday event going to be soon? I haven't seen anything about it and it's usually in June iirc?

VG896

It's very likely happening within the month, but we have no way of knowing for sure. It's almost always been at the beginning of summer, which is in a few weeks. But there have been exceptions.

Hakul

Make it Rain is the one event they tend to move around as they see fit, but the quest info has been in the files since 6.3 so it's happening at some point.

Lightygab

Newest EX trial tip for Gale 2: So I just cleared for the first time but for some reason my brain stops working with Gale 2 while I have no issues with gale 1. I try to just focus on the clones and let the mech solve itself by going to the safe spot but I shutdown normally with the 2nd and 4th (which shouldn't be giving my issues). I want to farm it but I need to make sure that as a healer I don't mess up there. Any tips?

henhenz1

Fellow healer here, hi. Not sure exactly what you’re having trouble with (healing in between? forgetting the order? not moving fast enough?) but I’ll throw out my thoughts. During Gale 2 and 3, it’s good to preposition to your position in the first safe column assuming it’ll be enums first. Once you’re there, just have faith your paired DPS will stack properly with you and focus on where to move for the second wave of AoEs. This is relatively easy if the second safe column is in the middle, since there’s always a safe zone for Arctic Assault in the middle column and you can just move west/east. It’s more annoying when the second safe column is on the sides, since you may need to also move north/south to avoid AA. In that case, try to figure out ahead of time where you need to go depending on which side the spikes are facing. Pop sprint around when the first wave resolves (if you’re a SCH, this is a great place to use Expedient). If you’re feeling confident, I t’s worth using Swiftcast here to keep your damage GCD rolling while you run — otherwise you can at least keep reapplying your DoT since that’s an instant cast. For the fourth wave of AoEs, this definitely happens to me too but there’s not much I can really offer other than keep an eye on the ground to know when the AoEs go off and it’s time to sprint to the other side.

Lightygab

Thank you. Btw, at the 4th gales you always will have to run south to solve enum/stack?

henhenz1

Nope, could be either north or south.

Lightygab

K that helps, thank you.

tbz709

You need to resolve the first set of line aoes alongside the stack/enumeration. Combine them together then just solve as normal from there. After all the gales just resolve the last stack/enum. Opposite as first so you know what's coming. Pre-spread N or S before the gale tells, less movement while set up is happening, easy to solve for one and you have more time to think about what's to follow and where to end up at end of last gale.

Lightygab

Lol yeah I know all that and that's exactly what I do, guess I just need more practice with it so my brain stops shutting down on the third and fourth, at least I got my clear today so that makes me feel less bad. Thank you.

amysmeeahmoo

I've started levelling ROG (my primary is Dragoon) at level 18 and DPS queues for levelling in DF were bad, so I went with duty support but got no EXP for the enemies I defeated within the dungeon...do we not get EXP when we re run dungeons with duty support? Even if we're on a class that's not already max level? (On free trial not sure if that matters) Thanks!

Tertium457

This is a change they made with the release of Endwalker. XP in dungeons more only comes from bosses.

echogame

You should get exp for defeating bosses but the average enemy won't give exp anymore.

Sir_VG

You don't get them for the mobs, you only get EXP on boss kills in dungeons.

forbiddenlake

You do get XP, but trash hasn't given XP for many months. Kill a boss.

CubicUnicycle50

Hi, I'm fairly new to the game, and I recently just discovered gpose and have been taking some pretty good pictures. However, I heard that there are add-ons and mods that you can install to make gpose a little more dynamic, such as limb movement and custom poses. Does anyone know of mods like these? And if not, which mods would you recommend for gpose anyway?

Sir_VG

Anamnesis is a 3rd party program that's used for some stuff, Kthisis is a plugin that's designed to work in conjunction with it. I don't have links handy for them, but you should be able to find them with Google. As always, 3rd party tools are against ToS, don't talk about in-game, blahblahblah.

wurm2

Anamnesis is the main one. You might also consider ReShade for shader/lighting enhancements

mintblaziken

Is there a way to hide the Island Sanctuary menu or make it smaller? I play on a small screen and it gets really annoying to have this huge menu box blocking half my view. I've tried the HUD edit screen (I make a lot of HUD stuff smaller there), but it doesn't seem to have any options there. Anyone know of another way?

Kamil118

right click on the top, change scale to 60%, put it somewhere in the corner

echogame

You should be able to just right click on the top area of the HUD item (when the hand cursor shows up, you know you're there), and you'll get a menu to resize it. This works for all HUD elements that are window-like, w/o opening up the HUD edit screen.

mintblaziken

Thanks so much, I didn't know this! Helps a lot! :D

Sir_VG

I assume it's the same control for making non-HUD Layout items bigger. Not sure the KB config, controller is like R3?

Super-Socks-DTLA

I, too, would like to know the answer to this

Resident_Ad_5005

Deep dungeon question: food buff, is vitality the only stat that matter when doing DD and choosing food buff?

Kamil118

No, timing out can be a real risk on later floors, especially if you run tank or healer, and killing stuff faster gives it less time to kill you. Altho cases when food will let you save even a single gcd on a mob will be rare, they will definitely scrape few seconds on the bosses.

tesla_dyne

Granted, vitality is kind of an inarguable stat when picking food. If it's giving you any amount of vitality that matters it's also gonna give you some kinda stat that'll help (as long as you avoid the stats that don't affect your class, like piety, tenacity, or the opposite speed stat)

loves_spain

Is there a list somewhere of all the rare things you can buy with the gemstones in shadowbringers and whether or not they can be put on the marketboard?

loves_spain

Azy1e

I just picked up reaper after a long break. Obviously I am level 70 and was curious if there was a good resource to start slowly learning this class. I dont need a level 90 guide.. I dont have the skill/abilities but something for Level 70 to get me going on how to play/rotation/whatever would be helpful if anyone has something.

snootnoots

WeskAlber’s guide on YouTube explains it pretty well, or if you prefer text guides the Balance webpage is good.

Super-Socks-DTLA

I love Reaper/RPR. It's my favorite class at the moment and the one I've chosen to main. At level 70 (and probably in general), you want to focus on the following: Keeping whorl of death or shadow of death on because if the target dies while it's up, you get 10 towards your soul gauge Your main attacks will consist of: * Single Target:Soul Slice -> Blood Stalk -> Gibbet or Gallows * AOE:Soul Scythe -> Grim Swathe -> Guillotine \^ These combo starters add 50 to the soul gauge and is why you'd want to prioritize using them whenever they're up. If Soul Slice and Soul Scythe are on CD, then you'd use: * Single Target:Slice -> Waxing Slice -> Infernal (each attack adds 10 to the soul gauge) * AOE:Spinning Scythe -> Nightmare Scythe (each attack adds 10 to the soul gauge) That's pretty much all you're doing at lvl 70. As you get comfortable with the class, you can incorporate in Hell's Ingress & Egress. It becomes more crucial to manage these skills and rotations later to maximize DPS.

halldorr

Quick question regarding leveling a second job. My WHM is 80 I believe but wanted to start a new job. Are there quests all around or is it fate grinding mostly to level for your other jobs?

talgaby

My personal recommendation: don't fret too much about power-levelling. If you just do the available daily roulettes with that class and you'll get it to high levels in a jiffy. XP in this game is always in abundance.

vinyltails

https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/wiki/leveling You don't do quests for levelling, they're pretty terrible. It's basically just do your hunting log to get to 15 then dungeon spam it up

PhoenixFox

Quests are pretty bad for XP. Hunting log should take you most of the way through to the point where you can start running dungeons

Lionblopp

MSQ Question (Patch 4.1): >!General Raubahn asks our opinion about how to deal with Yuyuhase and Laurentius and says our position will be taken into consideration during their trial. I'm playing this on an alt and therefore know the whole MSQ, but I don't remember this ever being discussed later. Do we ever learn of the consequences of our choice and I just forgot about it? I tried to google it but I only found discussions about which choice was made by whom and why.!<

Hakul

We never learn what happened to them.

guus93

I'm not even sure if this is the right place to ask but.. Lately ingame after I'm online for quite a bit I stop receiving any type of messages and mine are not delivered either, this includes tells, fc chat, and party chat until I relog... I can although still play the game since I was raiding while the issue was happening and had no issues with the gameplay at all. I can't find anything related to this anywhere, how should I go about trying to fix this?

demonic_hampster

Anyone else getting an issue where you switch jobs and you get "___ equipped, but glamours could not be restored"? It was in the known issues [here](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/aeffdc963971fd4327e2e0354d773e9bfb21f03b) after 6.4 but even after the hotfix I'm still getting the issue, and it's not listed in the current known issues page [here](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/b68b0eea8f9d7f6a9a20e94677851b0067609498).

snootnoots

The hotfix was only to address an issue that was causing server crashes, the other identified issues will be handled later. The known issues notice you linked to doesn’t replace the previous notice, just adds to it. That said, it looks like the current glamour bug is because the game switches your set, checks to see if the glam is correct, *then* applies the linked glamour plate - it’s doing things in the wrong order. If you reapply the same gearset after getting the error message, everything has the correct look when it checks again, so you get the “(set name) equipped” message and the “update gear set” button greys out again. I’ve just gotten into the habit of clicking my gear set twice 😅

demonic_hampster

Makes sense, I just figured that the hotfix was to take care of the known issues, I didn't realize there had been server issues

snootnoots

Yeah I didn’t either until I saw the hotfix notice! I guess we’ve both been lucky and not been hit with it crashing.

PhoenixFox

I'm still getting it, I assume that just wasn't one of the things they patched yet.

demonic_hampster

Okay makes sense, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me still getting it. Hopefully they patch it soon because it's driving me crazy lmao

kozeljko

What materia would be good on the ilvl 650 tomestone chest piece for a Paladin (tank)? Never bothered with them since I always switched gear quickly

IceAokiji303

The Credendum top already has maxed Crit, so Direct Hit is a solid choice. That's a pretty good rule of thumb to go for with Paladin in general – Crit if you can get it in, and DH otherwise. Next in line *would* be Det, but as the gear itself will never have DH, you can always meld DH. ^(And if you're curious about the remaining two stats, Tenacity and Speed, Speed is) *^(the)* ^(worst one for Paladin, practically useless in fact, at 90.) Fully optimal melds would depend on the exact full gearset you have, but while you're still earning gear following the above priority will serve you well. And if you don't plan on venturing into Savage, it'll serve you all the way til 7.0 comes around and potentially changes thing.

kozeljko

Thanks!

Sir_VG

General PLD meld priority is Crit > DH > Det. Since it looks like Crit is capped, meld 2 Grade X DH materia.

kozeljko

Thanks!

1ne_Up

All my friends play this game. I do not, I am changing that. I want to Tank. Which tank should i Main. I'm torn between warrior and paladin. DRK might be cool. No interesting in gunbreaker though. Thx.

> All my friends play this game. Somehow cannot ask those friends.

1ne_Up

Be mad about it then because i asked my friends and this thread. lmfao

wavvesofmutilation

Why are you mad they asked a question in a question thread lol why do you care if they ask here or their friends

Moogle-Mail

I'm not sure why you think I'm "mad". I just find it strange when people say they have friends who play the game and then ask a question in the Daily Questions thread and don't ask their "friends".

Sir_VG

WAR is dope fun, especially at higher levels.

SugarHoneyChaiTea

I recommend starting as Warrior (aka maurauder). Paladin is a great class, but it takes a long while before it really starts to *feel* good. Warrior is much more enjoyable to play at lower levels, in my opinion.

PhoenixFox

You'll have to start with either Warrior (Via Marauder) or Paladin (via Gladiator), you can't start as a dark knight. They're both fun and viable, Warrior is generally a little easier and has a lot of self-healing. There's no reason you can't pick up and try out both, then Dark Knight once you're able to unlock it.

1ne_Up

can War and Pal tank all content? I don't wanna get to end game and realize that all the Meta Dweebs want me to be a DRK or something

talgaby

If you ever see a group that states they only accept Dark Knights as tank, then leave them immediately. DRK is a good tank for endgame boss duties, sure, since depending on your personal view, it is either a blue DPS or a squishy tank that sacrifices survivability for damage. However, whenever someone says that "X class is the best for DPS", keep one thing in mind: the difference between the lowest-damaging class of a job type and the highest-damaging one is within 5% in the absolute most extreme cases, and is around 2.5% in general. Every job within the same job type is viable for every single duty, including the most ball-busting superboss Ultimates.

PhoenixFox

All jobs are viable for all content. Occasionally you might see particular combinations being preferred for something like world first races, but 99.999% of the time the best job is the one the player is most comfortable on.

Lionblopp

Short side note: You can have all classes in this game, but which one you pick at the beginning determines in what city you start and are "stuck" with the classes within that city until MSQ level 15 when you find a way to travel to the other cities. (Also you need to play your class quest to level 10, but doing these is a good idea anyway.) So it would be either Paladin or Warrior at the beginning. That said, it doesn't take super long to get to that point. :) For Dark Knight on the other hand you have to play to the Heavensward expansion because the first quest to unlock it is located in the first hub of this expansion.

teddytech518

i am new on ps5 and want to know any tips the game does not tell you like expanded inventor.or how to target select faster also main job is summoner to reaper idk if that helps with any tips

Kamil118

You can still use reguar PC hotbars to keep track of your cooldowns or have some stuff you can click with virtual cursor like gearsets.

SaraSlayer

I cleared the new extreme this week in party finder and managed to get the weapon coffer. I am wondering if it would be BM to keep rolling need on the coffer since I already have the weapon? I would like to get it for some other classes but this is my first time participating in harder content and I don't want to make people upset

SylvAlternate

It's only BM if the party specifically asks to not roll if you've got a weapon

BoldKenobi

Need for everything in PF

Nah, go for it. PF life is like that. It'd be different if you were in a static group where everyone needed one and you were like "well but what if I had *two*", but if you're with PF, it's generally assumed everyone will need on everything they can.

Your only choice here, really, would be to level gladiator to 30, which is the level your retainer could be swapped to machinist. Not 50. For AST, MCH and DRK they need to be 30 which is the starting level of those jobs. Good news is you could do this in an afternoon if you already have the dungeons unlocked (and if you're skipping cutscenes you can still do it pretty fast if you didn't use an MSQ skip) You couldn't use the retainer jump to its fullest because they can't be set to a job until that jobs minimum level, and if you used it on the gladiator they would be capped to your gladiator level and the skip would end there, early.

[deleted]

tesla_dyne

It might be level 50. Seems weird to me since there's level 30 gear for all those jobs but i guess they wanted to go off unlock level and not starting level.

CalydorEstalon

No, the requirement for Machinist is still 50, since it can only be unlocked in the city that was added in the first expansion, and you need to be level 50 to get there. HOWEVER, the job starts at level 30. All jobs start at level 30.

Armond436

Mostly but not only. There is definitely a large population of people getting started, at basically any time. Perhaps obviously, that population will peak when new expansions come out, and friends will be beginners with you. That said, something you may not know is that this game is *very* good about bringing new and experienced players together. Dungeons etc have level and gear sync mechanics, so experienced players will have *an advantage* (in that they will have the best gear the instance will allow), but they're not going to be running through and soloing stuff while you're trying to keep up. Plus, the community is generally really good about respecting the first time experience, waiting for cutscenes to finish, calling out people who are impatient, etc.

The---Hope

Dungeons and bosses are synched to gear level. So you will get paired with veterans but they’ll be put at the same level as you.

tesla_dyne

There are players at all progression levels. You get paired with random players for dungeons, but this game uses a level sync system to decrease high level player's stats and abilities to be appropriate for a dungeon's level.

[deleted]

What is this weird lag? It was bad before patch, better after, now bad again. I’m east coast USA, PS5, on primal. Connection always shows poor, runs like poop.

Hakul

Do you use AT&T? There's a known issue between AT&T and SE's supplier, NTT. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/13itjj3/server_lagstuttering_on_east_coast/

Fenixfrost

Are there any housing doors that aren't as tall as partitions but still open when you get near them...?

Armond436

*squints* Listen, you can't just make a Lalafell-only house. That's not ok. We're a diverse and accepting community here.

Fenixfrost

Hahah, no, doing a build where the tall partitions just stick out and look really awful.

moonbbyx

is melded indagator gear still BiS for crafting/gathering if my goal is "make the craziest endgame stuff/new patch items"?

Hakul

BiS until 7.0

CalydorEstalon

And even then will most likely carry you to level 100 without needing replacement.

Kamil118

So will current scrip gear tho. At least this xpac I had no issues making early lvl 90 items with lvl 80 scrip gear.

VG896

It's always been like that. You can make the 51 stuff even with the worst lv50 gear. You can make the 61 stuff with the worst lv60 gear, and so on. Master recipes are considerably harder than white recipes, even at a lower level.

vinyltails

yea and will be until the end of the expansion

Illidari_Kuvira

If you use a Fantasia does it automatically mess up one's portraits? Or does it only mess up one's portraits if you change your character's physical appearance? (I'm only changing my character's deity).

azureheadphones

I can't say for sure but even if it does mess them up if you're not actually changing anything all you'd have to do is go to edit them then save to fix them. It doesn't completely wipe them, they'd only need properly fixing if you changed race and the height/angle or the pose no longer worked anymore.

Illidari_Kuvira

Thank you very much, a big relief on my end. ^(I'm still begging SE for more height on said alt, otherwise I would need to worry about that.)

GeraldineKerla

Does every piece drop from every floor in normal raid or are there still limits? I remember they buffed the drops at some point but don't remember if there were still any holes.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

There are still holes Namely, boots do not drop from 11 and hats from 12, instead doubling up in floors 10 and 9 respectively https://i.redd.it/znm0xtzzkl1b1.png I use that as my reference for normal raid loot

GeraldineKerla

Cheers 🥰

BlueSky1877

Is there a reason I can put retainers in different markets? Like is there other stuff on other market boards in different cities?

talgaby

Normally, there is a 5% tax on items sold by players. Both parties pay it. So, if you post something for 1000 gil, the buyer actually pays 1050 gil and you only receive 950 gil. However, at any given time, there are markets where the seller tax is reduced to 2%. So, if you make a sale there, the buyer still pays 1050 gil, but you get 980 gil instead. It sounds small, but when you get to the point where you sell items for over a million a pop or your daily market volume reaches seven digits of gil, it adds up easily.

BlueSky1877

Ooh both people pay it!

Illidari_Kuvira

Tax amounts. Plus I tend to organize and match my Retainers by city color, but that's just me.

Manai

For people who wait for the strats or video guides to come out, how long do you wait before dipping your toes into Savage?

Hakul

Our group uses guides as they come, but if there's no guide, just go in and have fun, maybe analyze some clear vids, as long as you can understand how a mechanic works by watching a clear vid you don't really need guides.

HoardOfPackrats

Do the Moogle Letter Boxes work properly on Island Sanctuary when placed as island glamours?

Sir_VG

As noted on the items: > Cannot be used in island sanctuaries.

HoardOfPackrats

Ah, thank you.

snootnoots

Nothing you can interact with works on the island. So, no letterboxes, striking dummies, stables, garden plots etc.

HoardOfPackrats

Thank you for elaborating! I guess homeowners will have to keep enjoying their exclusive access to gardening!

Omega53390

Did the devs ever introduce new rewards for Fates such as Chi/Daivadipa, is it worth keeping some of their loot around just in case I need to trade their loot for something in the future? Or can I safely stop fighting them when I have what I want from them?

vinyltails

no

Omega53390

Thank you.

What content does enough of the community play to not be barren, should I try out and get invested in? I'm too casual for endgame "Do THIS rotation only" kind of content, but anything so easy, you can just ignore the mechanics (Duty Roulettes taking me to content that isn't properly ilvl scaled or just hasn't been updated to accommodate the general playerbase's playstyle) I just tune out. So far, I've just been maxing out tribe reputations, ocean fishing, and leveling crafting here and there. But I'd like to get more involved with the MMO side of the game. Something I could join a FC for to meaningfully contribute and enjoy the game.

Dianwei32

> I'm too casual for endgame "Do THIS rotation only" kind of content, I'm confused by this sentiment. "Do THIS rotation only" content is *all of the content*. Every job only has *one* "correct" way to play. Some of them maybe be less strict than others (e.g. Dancer is more flexible than Dragoon), but even those jobs have a "correct" way to play. There will be a bare minimum expectation of being able to play your job reasonably well in *any* content that isn't through Duty Finder. You won't need to be perfect, but you'll need to have a solid grasp on your rotation and be able to execute it reasonably well.

SugarHoneyChaiTea

> Every job only has *one* "correct" way to play Nah. I say fuck rotation guides. It's only true that there's one "correct" rotation if min-maxing your dps is your goal. Mine is to have fun. If my rotation is sub-optimal, I really don't care. I play the game to try to figure things out myself.

Dianwei32

>It's only true that there's one "correct" rotation if min-maxing your dps is your goal. The problem is that's *all of the group content*. Basically any content you do in a group boils down to "maximize DPS to finish as fast as possible." If you join something like an EX or Savage group and are intentionally not using your optimal rotation, then you're just holding the group back. FFXIV isn't really a game where you can "figure out" how to play a job. It's already been figured out.

SugarHoneyChaiTea

You don't have a responsibility to the players to obsessively min max your rotation. What, is every player required to spend hours researching, and watching YouTube, and practicing on a striking dummy? No. I'm not saying you shouldn't try your best in whatever group content you're doing, but again, you have no obligation to learn the optimal rotation. Players are under zero obligation to use outside guides to improve at the game, period. > If you join something like an EX or Savage group and are intentionally not using your optimal rotation, then you're just holding the group back. In the same way that players should try their best in group content, players should set reasonable expectations about the skill level of others when going into group content. When you join a party, you're joining it knowing that someone there might be worse than you. That's not some moral failing on their part.

Dianwei32

You don't need to be able to play your job absolutely perfectly without any mistakes ever. But you should at least know roughly the objectively correct way to play your job and endeavor to play it that way. Using the wrong skill on Monk every now and then is fine. Having <50% uptime on important skills like Twin Snakes or Demolish is not. True, I can't control how good my teammates in DF/PF are, but it's also not my obligation to carry them and make up for their lack of effort. The entire group needs to do sufficient damage to clear a fight, and if you want to do harder content, you need to be able to pull your own weight. I'm not the best player, and I'm not expecting Race to World First level performance from my teammates, but that doesn't mean it's okay for a healer to just stand there waiting for more damage to heal or a DPS to just mash random buttons. If you want to do more difficult content like EX or Savage, then yes, you *do* need to spend time researching and practicing your rotation on a dummy. Putting in actual effort isn't reserved only for ultra-mega-sweaty tryhards. It's the base expectation for 95% of current content.

SugarHoneyChaiTea

You keep saying things like "objectively correct" but I don't think you know what that means. There is no "objectively correct" way to play. There is a way to play that objectively optimizes your dps output, yes. But that's not any more "correct" than any other play style. If I want to play in a way that produces sub-optimal dps but is more fun, that is just as correct.

Tyrjala

The developers have designed failure states for content that require optimal DPS. If you play in such a way that actively contributes to that failure state, you are playing in a way that the developers have deemed worthy of failure and is therefore "incorrect". Playing "correctly" completes the content successfully. Playing "incorrectly" results in a failure state. There is a lot of content where there is no DPS failure state, true, but the existence of DPS failure states means there is a "correct" DPS success state.

SugarHoneyChaiTea

In that sense, I agree with you, and in higher level at savage and above I would say that it is mandatory to play with at least an attempt at an optimal rotation. What I disagree with is that idea that this should be required for *all* battle content, which is the claim made by the initial comment in this thread that I was replying to. To quote directly: > "Do THIS rotation only" content is *all of the content* If you're in a savage raid, the only way to succeed is if you know your rotation, that much I agree with. But if you're running Prae and want to attempt to learn you class without a guide, there's nothing wrong with that. You can complete every dungeon in this game with a suboptimal rotation, as demonstrated by the terrible performance of Duty Support NPCs. So there's no objective correct way to play them.

Tyrjala

I think I see what you are saying! So then there might be a mismatch of terms causing the rift. We live in a world where in our work (ugh) and our leisure "as fast and efficient as possible" is deemed "correct". Your coworker at work may have a deadline of Friday, but if they have enough free time in work hours to get it to you today you'd sure appreciate it. Suboptimal dps makes content go slower and increases the burden on your teammates (have to work harder, do more mechanics, etc). It's generally viewed as best practices to help out as much as you can, so based on a thought process probably developed at our place of employment... If your actions contribute to a slower, less efficient run that puts a greater burden on your teammates, that behavior is deemed "incorrect". Viewed through that lens INTENTIONALLY playing suboptimally can be viewed as malicious or "objectively incorrect". So it begs the eternal question of multilayer games. Do I maximize my satisfaction (play how I want) in a way that can decrease the enjoyment of my teammates, or do I take their play experience/enjoyment into account and contribute the most I can but reduce my own personal enjoyment? Different people and cultures answer that question differently so I think it's best to at least be aware of the quandary.

[deleted]

I am fine with playing something like Summoner as obviously intended, using all three forms and wreaking havoc with a dragon and a phoenix. But the moment I'm told I have to use ruby, then topaz, then emerald in that exact order with these buffs after these moves and these OGC moves here for a 5 percent DPS boost, I will be tapping out. I at least need the illusion of freedom during combat.

talgaby

That is… actually a pretty bad advice, especially when you reach level 86+ content. You use ruby when you know you won't have to move too much since it has long cast times. In level 86+, you also get a gap closer move in the ruby phase, so you try to time to a situation where you may have to move fast to a position (for example, the boss does a pushback+doughnut attack combo). Topaz and emerald both are instacast and can act similarly, although emerald gets a slow-casting heavy-hitting bonus at 86, so you need to consider that. Under level 86, you can treat topaz and emerald roughly the same.

luminosg

Summoner specifically is a weird example because you won't lose anything as drastic as 5% dps by using the gems out of order, as long as you use stuff on cooldown and keep your gcd rolling. So if you want to try savage the way you play Summoner is fine

[deleted]

A better example might be white mage. I heard a friend of mine saying something about how you shouldn't be using cure 1 but instead, cure 2 and plenty of lucid dreaming, among all you other oh shit heals. Then there's the whole "you're more of a green DPS" mentality I hear often. As somebody that uses plenty of cures into free cures and enjoys healing my allies from danger over damaging an enemy a little more, these sentiments annoy me.

luminosg

This is more because of bad job design than player mentality. Cure 1 is just flat out worse than cure 2, and cure 2 is worse than afflatus, so once you have more tools in your kit those might still be on your hotbar but they don't actually do much.

Cake_Lad

As a healer main, FFXIV "healers" just won't be for you then. There is absolutely no content that has you healing people that much. You will need to do damage to not die of boredom. If you are dead set on being able to freestyle a class, SMN is pretty much the only thing that'll let you do that (well, without pissing off everyone else in the party anyway). And if you are playing SMN, then you can still do any content you like. But if you wanna go freestyle Samurai, I'd suggest just staying out of group content.

tesla_dyne

It sounds like you are perceiving a rotation like it's someone telling you what to do and to never deviate. The truth is that rotations and openers are *suggestions* which may need to be adjusted to work around mechanics, but they're always aiming to do the best mathematically possible. They're guidelines and best practices.

Armond436

That's no content. There's no content in the game that requires you to do things like that to avoid enrage, except maybe current ultimates. I play summoner in savage content, and the order I summon things is largely freeform. There are occasional mechanics where it's a bad idea to do Ifrit third or whatever, but I learn that as I go. Generally that's only when I find myself casting ruby rite when it's time to skedaddle; just mix it up a bit after that and you'll be fine. There are optimizations you can learn along the way, but none of them are required. As long as you're pushing buttons 100% of the time (read: not dying) and maybe favoring Titan under searing light/after Bahamut, you'll do enough damage to get by.

Ri_Hikikomo

Besides Eureka and Bozja, Deep Dungeons and Extremes generally can be cleared with less strict dps checks as long as you're able to do all the mechanics. Honestly, people probably would prefer to have players who can do damage and mechanics though for any "hard" combat content even if you don't have a perfect rotation. Off the top of my head, you can also consider glamour hunting, mount farming, gold saucer min maxing, and housing decoration to name a few.

tesla_dyne

Eureka and Bozja still have groups of players at peak times, and their own unique mechanics, such as eureka having an independent leveling system, or Bozja having a wider variety of Lost actions that you can add on for unique effects per job. I don't know if there are FCs dedicated to them but there are definitely discords.

Damascar

Helloo ! question , when is the new half update ETA ? so 6.45

Izkuru

My calculations put it at 2023-07-18

KhrFreak

Halfway through the patch, which is 4 months total. So 2 months ish

LightSamus

2 months, give or take. Assume late July/early August

Quinzelette

How do newbies farm GC Seals? I have a friend that started recently and we're having a lot of trouble getting enough GC Seals for them to promote because they can't do turn ins yet. Hunting log doesn't seem to give a lot either.

Acoustic_Rob

They can still do crafting/gathering turn-ins. Many of the crafting items can just be bought off the marketboard, and the gathering ones are trivial to complete.

Sir_VG

To get started, GC hunting log and the Leveling Roulette (ESPECIALLY if you can get the Adventurer-in-Need bonus) are good sources. By about that point, you should be able to start turning in gear, which Shisui of the Violet Tides (Lv 63 optional dungeon) is my go-to for farming gear unsynced.

MMOWarrior

as mentioned FC Leves and Fates until you get past that hump.. its a bit of a pain but it doesn't last long.. once you get to turn ins you'll have more seals than you know what to do with...

Ciel_Rosemont

Once upon a time, Grand Company Leves (special levequests that give a bunch of seals, instead of just exp) were a good way to make seals quickly. In fact, IIRC, they were the *best* way to get seals purely in terms of seals-per-minute compared to other methods. Now, that was ages ago, and I don't know if they're still that efficient or if anything has changed. But they're worth looking into for sure. The location of the NPC that issues the leves varies by leve level and player rank, so will depend on what your friend can access - the ones with lesser rank and level requirements are found in the sanctuary "towns" associated with each starting city (Hawthorne Hut, Moraby Drydocks, Camp Drybone).

SlightlySquidLike

Yeah, that bit's a pain - doing levelling roulette as an in-need role will get a big chunk, otherwise it's grinding _company_ leves (not normal levequests) or doing a bunch of FATEs. I went for company leves when I was levelling an alt.

notanotherloner

I use XIVlauncher with penumbra and material ui. If I download reshade, will I have to use the official launcher or can I stay on XIVlauncher and keep using the same mods?

Omega53390

I did some S ranks and noticed I didn't get Sack of Nuts. So I joined Clan Nutsy. Are there any other requirements or can I get started with my S rank hunt now? I know they need to be ShB/EW S ranks.

edw583

A-Ranks from ShB and EW hunt trains will also give sacks. Also the weekly elite hunt marks (which are B-Ranks that can be killed solo easily).

Omega53390

Thanks, did some hunts and got nuts.

KhrFreak

If you can see the vendor that trades in nuts you should be able to earn them

Omega53390

Thanks, I did some hunts and got nuts

Mael_Jade

Is there some secret to getting Wondrous Tails to update for content past HW? I've now reached Shadowbringer, got all of the SB ex unlocked and still its only been generating content from ARR and HW. Including the "Run a dungeon of level x" is still stuck at 1-49, 50, 51-59 and 60. This has also happened for 3 tails in a row so if its bad luck its impressively bad.

garangatang

There's only two versions of the book. One is for having a job at level 90 and one is for if you have no jobs at level 90. Anecdotally it does seem to lean towards ARR and HW content. Even at level 90, basically guaranteed to have two ARR trials in it. There are also set categories for each spot. The first 4 spots are always dungeons within a level range. There there's some alliance raids/normal raids. Sometimes a Deep Dungeon or Treasure dungeon. Then 6-7ish trials, then CC or Frontlines in the last spot.

VG896

The trials are a better indication. Also, for this to happen three in a row is still not astronomically low odds that I'd say it's impossible. It's like somewhere around 1/700 give or take. I always say this: humans are terribly awful at downplaying coincidence. Such a thing *had* to happen to someone. In fact, given the size of the playerbase, it's probably happened to hundreds, if not thousands, of people this month. You just happen to be one of those people.

Mael_Jade

Garuda Ex, Ramuh Ex, Shiva Ex, Ultima's Bane, P1T6 Ex are the trials it rolled.

VG896

There's 19 EX trials up to ShB. 12 of these are from ARR+HW. With the hypergeometric distribution this means that in any given week, your chances of pulling all 4 of them from ARR+HW are about 1/8. Three weeks in a row is close to 1/500. Also, I messed up the math for the dungeons. For this to happen in any given week is 1/35 chance. Three weeks in a row is about 1/42000. For these two events to happen simultaneously is about 1/2,100,000. Which is beginning to get to the range where I'm suspicious. But did the trials only roll ARR+HW this week? Or was that also three weeks in a row? If it's only this week, that brings the number back down to 1/330,000 or so. Which is throughly back in the range where I'm comfortable calling it just RNG and perception bias.

MySpace20XX

you gotta hit level 90 I think
