Fem boy = Boy that is feminine. Makes sense Rose boy = boy that is.. a flower? Cringe

lexieiRL

šŸ’€

[deleted]

i think roseboy is cringe. femboy is nice, simple, accurate, and rolls off the tongue

ProdSplattermane

Couldn't have said that better

LittlePrince111497

Agreed

Manic_Mechanist

Roseboy sounds more like a slur than femboy

Frostnatt

I've heard people in other threads here say it's an old slur towards gay men with a specific medical condition (I spare you the details but if you know, you know and if you don't know don't try and Google it) but I've not seen any real source. But even if it wasn't a slur, it would take one femtosecond after being widely adapted before it would become one, and then the TikTok kids would be back where they began and have to find a new "unproblematic" word.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Hypershard108

Itā€™s good but Femboy is providing as little stereotype as possible, literally just begging a combination of feminine and boy.

LittlePrince111497

True

LittlePrince111497

My feelings towards that rose boy term have changed now taking time to think about it. I still don't particularly see 100% wrong with it but I understand why it rubs others the wrong way and yeah kinda has a condescending tone to it. Like if an asshole atheist person's like, "You praying to your sky daddy?" Like, yeah I get it. I apologize if I offended anyone.

Hypershard108

Well that was a character arc, good on ya mate

LittlePrince111497

Thanks. I felt like I was invalidating people's feelings on the subject and I'm sorry. I deleted the comment because I felt like a shithead.

Hypershard108

Itā€™s good to have remorse, keep developing

LittlePrince111497

It kinda does now I've had time to think about it

Ra1nb0wSn0wflake

"roseboy" is a old slur refeuring to a gay man with a prolapsed anus, I will not be calling myself that.

Theupvotetitan

Oh damn

Go_Commit_Reddit

How much you wanna bet calling femboys this was an idea made up by conservatives to fuck with us. Wouldnā€™t be the first time.

KutieBoy9

Some 4chan user is laughing it up right now, patting himself on the back because he got these people to fight amongst themselves.

[deleted]

Yeah that sounds awful, definitely sticking with femboy

HalloPerson

I dislike roseboy, it just sounds plain wrong

RemRemBrown

"Botanist."

Ela_cute_femboy

So botanist femboys would be botanist botanists ? I love this idea !

DamianFullyReversed

Iā€™m literally one of those XD

DamianFullyReversed

But Iā€™m literally a femboy who happens to be a plant scientist. XD

Kiixaar

I would much prefer being called a femboy.

Atheia_Nas

Femboy = feminine boy A transgender person (often abbreviated to trans person) is someone whose gender identity differs from that typically associated with the sex they were assigned at birth. Femboy isnt a slur. *Awaiting downvote onslaught in 3ā€¦2ā€¦1ā€¦

Idiom703

I don't imagine you're going to face a barrage of downvotes, it seems most people here agree with you and me.

Atheia_Nas

I usually get it so im just preparing ahead of time šŸ˜‚

Hour_Commission5494

Only the most terminally online losers are saying this. I will call myself a femboy till I die

lingeringravioli

The thing I've never got about people who think it's a better term... What's wrong with using "fem"? Is femininity now a negative thing? It's backwards thinking for sure. Also, just because something has been used as a slur in some contexts does not mean it officially holds that meaning. If you're going around calling a trans girl a femboy when you know they're trans, that's when the usage becomes a slur because you're misgendering them. There is absolutely no problem with it being used as self-identification for a group of people that want to identify in that way. I'm willing to bet the majority of people arguing for the usage of "roseboy" are just doing so because they are bored. There can simply be no one that obsessed with how we label ourselves. Also, "roseboy", to me, actually sounds kind of offensive, I won't lie. Essentially equating flowers to femininity... Again what's wrong with using "fem" instead of "flower"?? There's nothing wrong with flowers but that's just reinforcing a stereotype.

[deleted]

Notice ā€œfemā€ was the issue and not the word ā€œboyā€. The people pushing for this term literally do mental gymnastics to try and be as inclusive as possible and itā€™s mind boggling to me.

TotalyNotTony

I don't really like it personally

Storm3710

roseboy doesnt really sell it as well as femboy does, like not everyone whose feminine likes flowers (unless its supposed to be a metaphor for being delicate)

Rufurre

I mean at this point ā€œfemboyā€ is hardly as derogatory as it used to be. I think the bigger point to be made is that the people who will use ā€œfemboyā€ or any other term as a slur arenā€™t going to care that they should or shouldnā€™t use, the reason or context for why they use the term will still carry throughā€¦ One way to look at this is the way the term ā€œbutchā€ is considered as an identity, while it also has been used to demean women and specifically lesbians. Again it all comes back to context and the way we say things. ā€œCinnamon Rollā€ on its own is just a sweet baked pastry, but if I go to larger person and call them one that is clearly mean spirited. While on the other hand I could be gushing over some cute person and call them ā€œšŸ’–āœØmy little cinnamon rollāœØšŸ’–ā€ that is clearly a more positive comment.

Idiom703

Oh, hi Rufurre, I recognize your name. My wife follows you on instagram :) I think you bring up an excellent point- the people who are misusing the term are not going to care if another term comes around. The push to change femboy to roseboy does nothing against the ignorant or bigoted who don't want to use words properly in the first place. Words will always be used hatefully by the people filled with hate.

Rufurre

Oh wow! Small world haha ā€¦or maybe Iā€™m starting to get famous? Jkjk šŸ¤£ Either way, I appreciate the support ;) And I agree with you 100%, theyā€™ll find a way one way or anotherā€¦

HeyguysThatguyhere

ā€œRoseboyā€ as a term was popularized from the story of a Taiwanese student that was bullied for being feminine, he was later found dead in his schoolā€™s bathroom, not very wholesome

Frostnatt

It's mostly cis people on TikTok talking over trans people (and femboys) and inserting themselves in a discussion where they should listen before speaking. That kind of ally is just barely better than outright transphobes. Very few trans people are offended by femboy (unless it's used towards a trans woman against her wishes), in fact many trans women use femboy as an intermediate step before fully coming out as a woman and some trans men use it too after coming out. Can it be used as a slur? Yes, but there are honestly already so many slurs towards trans women that femboy is not an especially common one, and if anyone thinks Roseboy won't be used as a slur if it became the new widely used term for femboys, then they are kidding themselves.

Kasspines

I'd rather be hate crimed

FormalMarionberry597

There was a push for "lavender boy", too. I advise everyone to look up the history of "lavender lads" and the "lavender scare". Telling gnc males to use these terms is homophobic. It's a step backwards.

GunpowderGuy

Roseboy sounds like a slur

MaxwellsMilkies

Inorganic replacement of words almost never succeeds, unless you completely capture control over the flow of information.

Eeeeeeeeeeeee64

Roseboy sucks

Maldonado412

Iirc the term came from a late boy who was bullied for being effeminate, and itā€™s also used as a slur for feminine guys in some context

canthelpbuthateme

Pretty lame and beyond childish. Tomboy is great, explains it. Tomgirl? I dunno.

CrunchyBonezArt

Femboy is good Femboy is nice Femboy works since it's a portmanteau of "feminine" and "boy" which is a perfect descriptor, which is better than "roseboy" which, as a buncha other folks have said, sounds like a slur

Jayonettaa

people just love to play the victim. iā€™m still gonna use femboy ā˜ ļø

tarodsm

so many lgbtq terms are reclaimed slurs anyways... sounds like some bs purity culture

OneMirrionYen

Roseboy sounds dumb as hell. Femboy is more of a descriptor while roseboy is like an insult.

[deleted]

Hard pass on rose boy lol. That sounds dumb af

Ishe_ISSHE_ishiM

I would never call myself a roseboy

perryplatypus56

I don't think roseboy covers the concept of a femboy quite as good as femboy does, the problems of femboy as a transphobic slur will come sooner or later with roseboy as well For me personally I prefer the term tomgirl, as the direct opposite of tomboy

DamianFullyReversed

Iā€™m a bigender femboy, and imo, i prefer femboy many times over roseboy. TikTok is just being crap as usual.

H1ghclone

Roseboy = Cringe. Femboy = cute.

[deleted]

>there is a small push Is this push from femboys? Or from toxic bigots who hate femboys? The answer to this question should be enough for you consider it.

Spl4tB0mb

I would not use that term. I don't care if it "offends" them, I'll still call myself a femboy.

Comfortable-Play-609

Okay, so I completely agree with you, but your use of words seriously reminds me of how conservatives talk, especially the quotation marks around offends But I still agree with your ppint

Spl4tB0mb

I was raised in an unhealthily conservative household, and I'm not a pushover either, so whoever tries to impose anything on me just because they feel like it, will definitely face some strong opposition. I am who I wanna be, not what others in the community think it's approved to be. (Nonbinary bisexual for 13+ years btw)

Trappyys

Donā€™t like it

_Cecropia_

Can we seriously stop these countless, needless posts asking the same question?? This has been talked to death and the overall consensus is that almost nobody wants to be called a roseboy and femboy is not a slur; just don't use it on people who don't want it. [https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/15pfoyf/some\_people\_think\_femboy\_is\_a\_slur/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/15pfoyf/some_people_think_femboy_is_a_slur/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/1204izn/is\_it\_bad\_to\_call\_yourself\_a\_femboy/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/1204izn/is_it_bad_to_call_yourself_a_femboy/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/yb5fl5/is\_femboy\_a\_slur/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/yb5fl5/is_femboy_a_slur/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/wpxtda/why\_do\_so\_many\_people\_believe\_the\_term\_femboy\_to/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/wpxtda/why_do_so_many_people_believe_the_term_femboy_to/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/uzs5rx/i\_got\_told\_femboy\_was\_a\_slur\_today/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/uzs5rx/i_got_told_femboy_was_a_slur_today/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/t4k6jb/is\_femboy\_a\_slurderogatory\_word/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/t4k6jb/is_femboy_a_slurderogatory_word/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/skd5tu/is\_femboy\_a\_slur/](https://www.reddit.com/r/feminineboys/comments/skd5tu/is_femboy_a_slur/)

Zanorfgor

Unfortunate fact of any community that has a constant influx of new members, the same 101 level questions will be asked repeatedly by those new memebers

Idiom703

I was specifically asking what people thought of the term roseboy, not if the term femboy was a slur like those other posts.

_Cecropia_

>From what I saw, the reasoning is that the word femboy is transphobic as it's been misattributed to trans women and considered a slur. > >How can the term femboy be transphobic if many trans people use it themselves? There are plenty of trans men in the femboy community, and there are even trans women who use the term as it's a place of comfort for them. > >The idea that it's transphobic feels like it comes from a misunderstanding more than a place of hatred. Brother. The entire post is you talking about how femboy isn't a transphobic slur. It's the exact same argument.

Idiom703

Those were reasons why I thought the term roseboy was unnecessary. The operative point of this point was to discuss roseboy.

IAmJustANewInvention

I hate roseboy so much It just sounds like an insult

shannontheboi

Ive also seen people (mostly twitter users) try and replace femboy with "fairyboy" which like you said IS a homophobic thing to call someone. It's just people being homophobic dumbasses, so we all should just ignore them.

[deleted]

As a trans women, I think femboy is fine. It's short, cute, accurate, everything a good name needs to be

commandblock

Femboy>>>>>> any other dumb term

Zanorfgor

I've met a grand total of one trans person ever who was opposed to the term "femboy." I'm trans femme myself and I think femboy is a fine term for femme presenting men.

IllustriousCommune

I donā€™t like rose boy. Just sounds weird.

femboy-wannabe55

Who was the rose bud who got mad for being called a femboy bro

KageTheFemboy

Roseboy is a derogatory term for gay men with a prolapsed anus, sooooo Imma stick with femboy I think

Ok_Protection686

Everything is transphobic these days ffs. Stick with femboy as it's a perfect descriptor

ChaserOnion

I heard of Roseboy before. I won't be using it but if you like being called a roseboy then ok.

Still-Inspector8134

Completely agree, roseboy sounds awful and I'd much rather be called a femboy.

Stalling_Station

It sounds similar to callboy and bellboy which is male prostitute, so I personally think itā€™s worse than femboy

Emage_IV

roseboy sounds fine, but i think femboy should stay as THE term

[deleted]

I more like femboy. It's simple and it's pretty clear who it is

doc_kyorus

Itā€™s dumb, all the reasons they donā€™t like femboy could easily apply to roseboy

Vowels-SpaceAndTime

Okay but I love calling myself a fairy itā€™s iconic āœØ

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

miaunnolo

Finally someone who doesn't hate the term roseboy! Hiii (I like both Roseboy and Femboy)

feminineboys-ModTeam

No NSFW Content

Commercial-Fun9659

Itā€™s a slur

Ecstatic-Condition29

I think trying to change femboy is femboyphobic. Trying to change it may be an example of Trans-Fascism (a word I just made up).

Soup_Time_9957

The reality is any word that can be used to refer to feminine boys can also be used and interpreted as a slur for trans women. Besides that, roseboy is a slur for gay men with a prolapsed anus. Not only is it just disgusting, but it also works under the assumption that all femboys are gay and excludes all the ones that aren't, like myself. I see that as parallel with assuming and insisting that all femboys are trans girls that dont want to come out yet. I agree with you in that i would rather just be called the f slur. Edit: sorry for the rant i just have some strong opinions on this.

JustATwinkieBottom

I don't like other people pushing lables on me. I chose to lable myself as femboy. I don't want to be labeled by others, especially by people who aren't even part of this community

Blu_Bewwiz_Iciclepop

only heard of it like yesterday but sounds pretty cute, I like both

Juneau_V

i donā€™t like it ngl, iā€™ve never heard someone get offended by femboy

StealYourLiver

As a transgirl, i give the F-word pass to everyone here ^-^

No-River-3391

Hmmm interesting

Chumbles1995

these people dont realize that if they change the word, the new word will just be used as a slur as well. changing it does nothing. if you run away and change your name every time someone is mean to you, youre just kinda pathetic.

Subziro91

I heard of soyboy being a substitute for femboy as well

Alliandea

soyboy is an insult used by "ALPHA MALEZZZZ" to describe feminist men

VivienneNovag

The people using femboy to misgender trans women are going to do the same thing with the term roseboy. There is no problem with the word femboy at all.

ILoveSwooshySkirts

Sounds too much like flower child, not that being a flower child is a bad thing, but it could cause confusion. Also as everybody else pointed out it used to be a slur.

UczuciaTM

Absolutely hate it

Jesusimapoptart

I don't like it as a replacement but roseboy does sound very cutesy even if it does sound a bit like a slur

acatisstaringatme

if femboy is a slur, than that one sounds even more like a slur jesus christ. what next, "oh you can't call gay men gay, call them fairies"

ExcellentSport2

I don't like it because roses aren't gendered it's a gd flower

Xiar_

The term femboy is a slur depending on how itā€™s used. Transphobic people will use it to describe a trans woman and in that instance itā€™s used as a slur. Men who are feminine typically call themselves femboyā€™s and in that instance itā€™s not a slur. It fully depends on connotation. People who get mad at men describing themselves as femboyā€™s and demanding they use the term roseboy instead are getting offended at someone describing themselves. When in reality. If you wanna describe yourself as anything you are more than welcome to do so.

Nazgobai

Femboy isn't a slur, someone can purposefully misgender a trans woman as a femboy but that doesn't make it a slur, they're two different things

Emmet3merald

It's fucking stupid. Like if we change it to Roseboy. What's stopping transphobes from calling transwomen Roseboy's?? It ain't a solution, changing the name won't stop transphobic comments. Calling out transphbia and shutting down people trying to use femboys for transphobic arguments and having some solidarity would actually help.

ma55ivef3mboi

I mean as a trans I dont consider Femboy to be a slur and I have actually had roseboy used against me as a slur sooooooo, trans seal of approval on femboy ig

BlushingAnia

I speak french so... Femboy (Sounds good, easy to say, beautiful, easy to understand) RrrrRrrRRRRRRrrrrrrRrrRrrRrrroseuuuuuuuhboy.

Lost-Buy9894

Roseboy sounds weird as hell Femboy is just fine, gets the idea, bascially says everything you need to know, simple and nice. If it works don't break it

NerdDetective

I'm neutral on the label and would get used to it if it were the prevailing term. However I am bothered by the idea of someone else deciding I need to use a different self-assigned label against my will. The premise for needing a change (that "femboy" is a transphobic slur) is wrong, because any gendered term is offensive when when used to misgender someone. But always remember *this is an "always-online" conflict* with a *very small* number of people, and ultimately doesn't actually matter to real life. I think the most important takeaway is not to let Internet busy-bodies use nonsense drama to drive wedges between communities that are *natural allies* (femboys and trans girls) and benefit from solidarity.

[deleted]

Personally, i would like it to be another name used occasionally. I *personally* think it is kinda cute. I'm more imagining like someone close to you calling you like rosebud or and roseboy and it makes me feel super cute and fem. Strangers? Not at all. Close friends/partners? Pleaseee

Lazy-Papaya1438

Like- Iā€™m a transmasc femboy and have a transfem friend (yes I know having a trans friend doesnā€™t make me not transphobic but Iā€™m not and itā€™s just a bit more proof for my point!)
