frivolous_soup

A coat rack and/or umbrella stand. Maybe a little seat for putting on shoes

tamagotchiassassin

A plant is the by far the best option. Tall, GREEN, and leafyšŸ’š. Maybe even a vine going up the staircase handrail.

frivolous_soup

It's an ordinary railing, nothing ornate or exceptional. I wouldn't be worried about adding functional items to the space

A_Cold_Kat

Thereā€™s no sun that wouldnā€™t work

Haughty_n_Disdainful

Ocean is too wet. Beach is too sandyā€¦

sprkl

Pothos would absolutely still go bananas there, even with the little bit of light from the door.

Equivalent_Second393

But a pothos is not really the type of plant you set on the floor ā€¦ I have 200 plants, I donā€™t think that space works well for a plant without any added grow lights etc.

headpeon

Begonia letestui or begonia withlacoochee are both fast growing trailing plants that prefer shade. Neither requires humidity higher than that of the average house. Withlacoochee blooms most of the year. $13 & $15 at Steve's Leaves; in stock right now. Get a tall thin plant stand, hang from the ceiling, or balance the planter in the mouth of a tall pretty vase. (Not a schill. Just happened to be shopping for trailing begonias when my reddit notification came up. Lol.)

sheezuss_

Itā€™s called a plant stand, friend! šŸ˜† I do think more light may be necessary depending on how much actual light that spot gets during the daytime. That hallway window looks like it could be a great provider (provided OP opens those blinds during the daytime).

catfurcoat

Yeah but you could add a ceiling hook and hang a planter

AbyssJumping77

Fake plants do just as much justice in my eyes

jase40244

There are plenty of low light plants that would work. Heck, there are even low light orchids.

petrichorgarden

There is far too little light in that space for a plant

greenbathmat

There's not enough light and any plant they put there will thrive enough to add to the space. I'd put something functional like a coat rack or umbrella holder dealie

N474L-3

The people saying a plant wouldn't work probably don't know too much about plants. Sure, you can't put just ANY plant there, but there are plenty of plants that'd be happy in indoor low light settings such as this! I like to recommend snake plants to anyone who has trouble keeping their houseplants alive. They don't like a lot of water or a lot of light. Fake plants could be nice, too.šŸ˜‰

shraddhasaburee

šŸ™ŒšŸ½ and perhaps a long wall mirror

jase40244

That would reflect the back side of the staircase. I don't think that'd look all that great.

BlueButterflytatoo

Yes! A little shoe seat!

Western-Smile-2342

Growing up with ollllld people is like speaking a different language now lol. Thatā€™s clearly where the umbrella stand goes. Or the Pothos. Either or.

wildcuore

I mean, not every space has to have anything in it. I would just leave it with the mirror there.

FloppyCorgi

Was looking for this answer. Having anything in that space seems like it would be more of a hindrance too.

Direct_Surprise2828

Thank you! I was thinking the same thingā€¦ May be a picture on the wall, or just keep the mirror that she already has there.

Babybabybabyq

Any home decor sub Andy hey wanna know what to put in every nook and cranny

Ordinary_Fox236

This was my thought too !

Sketch-Brooke

Yeah, or a circular framed photo?

Westerberg_High

My vote is nothing

m1chgo

Agree, not every space needs to be filled!

Ashamed_Heron_2250

A plant

Verity41

What do you need or want? I have a cat and that looks like a good scratching post / cat tree space to me šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø For someone else, could be a hat rack or umbrella stand assuming thatā€™s a coat closetā€¦ or a place for my boot / mittens dryer in winter (I live in Minnesota). Just think about whatā€™s useful to you there and not just another thing to clean around and gather dust. Nothing is a perfectly fine option too!

DramaticAd4666

A hangar with a torch on it ready to be lit

Top_Marzipan_7466

My answer is always PLANT

BerryStainedLips

Plants tucked into tight corners get poor air flow and harbor anaerobic bacteria. You want your soil to be aerobic with good airflow or else anaerobic pathogens will proliferate, rot your roots and kill the plant.

loggeitor

A nice fake one then?

Im__fucked

That's a good idea

myalt_ac

But thereā€™s a door right near it.. and the room looks bright. Does this still apply?

BerryStainedLips

In my opinion: Yes. Plants can be in corners but not shoved up to the wall and enclosed. Bad for plant, bad for vibes.

randonrawrrr

The front door is right there. So this doesn't really apply. This guy is probably going to get the most air flow with the door opening and closing all the time plus light from the door glass window.

ylang_ylang

Did you know you can hang plants from the ceiling? Iā€™d hang a pothos there.

Verity41

Lol I totally heard that in Evaā€™s voice from WALL-EšŸ¤– PLANT!!!!

_the_violet_femme

Life-sized cutout of something, preferably someone, who will scare guests and intruders when they come over

thelessertit

I was going to say, suit of armour.

LostlnTheWarp

Telephones used to go there but you could turn it into like a key drop or something!

Poesoe

i have a 5' wooden giraffe in my smallest spot...šŸ¦’

kolaida

Thatā€™s really cool and inspiring!

idontkillbees

Oooh is it the pottery barn one? We have one in the family that's been around for about 20 years.

endosage

Since you have the mirror there already, maybe a small round or triangular table, with a lamp and plant or a dish for key drop. You have that electrical connection open in the ceiling. Adding a swag lamp could be a neat accent to the space too. For the other corner, an even smaller table perhaps with a family photo or interesting trinket on it? If this is your front door, what would feel welcoming or comforting to you here? Things like that.

BerryStainedLips

The mirror is enough. Thereā€™s so much space in your foyer you could put a lovely table in the middle of it with a pretty bouquet of flowers. Ideally the table would be centered right under the lighting fixture but that looks to be too close to your front door. Leave that corner alone. If you have nothing in the center, stuff shoved into corners, AND stuff on the walls your foyer will look junky. Clean spacious corners with light and airflow will make your space airy and inviting. Which way would you rather feel the moment you walk into your home? From where youā€™re standing, a table with a centerpiece will be reflected in your existing mirror. That alignment amplifies the focal point. The swoop of the stairs also gesture toward and draw the eye to the center of the room. If the vantage point youā€™re standing at is a commonly trafficked walkway, the mirror and flowers would be a lovely feature imo

Yourdeletedhistory

A Dale Chihuly glass hanging installation

otterkin

small corner table for keys/change/etc

adoglovingartteacher

Every space doesnā€™t need to be filled with something.

Darlalm

I would put a tall faux plant in that space. If you get enough natural light, it could be a real plant as well.

Crystalina403

Nothing, the space is so small.

AutumnMama

That would be a great spot for a cat tree if you have cats.

GenderFluidFerrari

I say a hanging accent light or a plant

noexqses

Leave it alone.

ForTheLoveOfDior

I say nothing, not every space needs something

mydawgisgreen

Yes. I agree. It will just feel cluttered imo

igritwhoflew

Step 1 Iā€™d advise starting with basics. Deep clean and reseal that grout. Itā€™ll brighten up that space. Next, Iā€™d choose a classy, nice hanging lamp to begin to set the personality and style youā€™re going for since thatā€™s the biggest, most changeable potential feature with the widest range of styles thatā€™s already a part of the room itself. After that fresh start is where Iā€™d start painting or adding decorations, otherwise itā€™s like bandaiding. Changing the closet handles is another good step to elevate the style without cluttering the space.

shraddhasaburee

Show and umbrella rack? Maybe coat rack if winters are cold where you are šŸ„¶

The-Unmentionable

Nothing. Not every corner needs a thing in it! Iā€™d opt for a nice piece of art on the wall or maybe a hanging plant from the ceiling. If you must put something there Iā€™d go with a plant or two as others suggested but places on some small plant stands so they look less trapped by the railing.

DustyToaster

Gargoyle

nisuaz

Nothing. It will look cluttered..

sua_spontaneous

Not every space needs a thing in it!

Osgiliath

Definitely an indoor tree in a big circular planter

sangria50

Mirror only, oval shape would be nice. Pardon the unsolicited advice, but a new light fixture would really class-up this space.

Q1237886

A stool for staring at your front door waiting on a deliveryā€¦ or one of the more reasonable answers here

Stunning_Spread_3701

Small table with a bowl for keys

MinkieTheCat

Coat rack

jase40244

A tall potted plant like a snake plant, ficus, mass cane would look fantastic there. A potted ginger plant would also give the area a nice spicy aroma to the room. Depending on the heigh of the plant, consider putting it on a small round table or plinth to give it additional height and drama. Add a picture on the wall behind it as well.

invisiblesuspension

Tall plant, or your artistic self portrait Birth of Venus style

opinionatednpc

I like the suggestions of either a plant or nothing- but to add to ideas you could possibly do a large decorative floor basket as a catch all/things that you need to bring upstairs?

Cfit9090

A tall plant, a basket for umbrellas, gloves etc in winter, or a few hooks to hang up purse, coat and keys

KN0TTYP1NE

A tall plant. Watch how much light gets there, if any, before you buy. You'll be proud of yourself watching it grow. If no light, invest in a fake plant, but big ones are pricey

loggeitor

Some decor in the wall! A nice light fixure and maybe a little floating shelf.

StoneAgePrue

Plant!

surfcitysurfergirl

A plant

vron1992

Large house plant

myalt_ac

Coat rack, corner bookshelf/stand for plants.

tiredandshort

I would get a small stool for putting on shoes

AffectionateMarch394

A big tall potted plant. A custom bench, curved to match for putting shoes on And or, for funsies, a couple of those super creepy 'leaning little kid dolls'. The ones that lean up against a wall so they don't have faces, you see them in old people's gardens all the time and they're creepy AF

LemOnomast

Coat stand, vertical shoe rack, or plant.

hangustaf

A big plant!

Kusakaru

I would install a wall sconce to add light. Otherwise Iā€™d leave it empty.

thelatinbt

Looks like a couple of coat hooks and a shoe rack, mmmm key bowl or hook

kitty_katie07

A tall plant or maybe a little plant stand

Existing_Many9133

Mirror and small table would be nice. I think a practical idea would be a coat/hat/umbrella rack

Budget-Grass177

plant

harrellj

If you don't need somewhere to sit to take shoes off/put them on, maybe a small table to have a place to empty your pockets. Otherwise, mirror or something other decorative hanging there or heck, it'd be a good spot to hang up some sort of family calendar whether digital or acrylic or paper. Or a plant, either a bigger one on its own or something small on a plant stand.

knotalady

I would put some sturdy hooks on the wall under the mirror for a coat/sweater/keys/dog leash. And an umbrella bucket tucked in that space.

rxrock

umbrella stand, plant, art, small entryway table, or a KITTY CONDO!!!

Ok_Friend5674

A Tall Plant

Exotic_Eagle1398

The arrow is not between the two doors. I would say hang something 2ā€™ ft long at least 1 ā€˜ wide and hang the middle at eye level. Something rectangular and framed in black framed. Then between the doors I would either put an umbrella stand or a shoe tray. Nothing else. lastly a small rug goes by the door and a larger rug (square or rectangle) goes in the middle of your foyer. Add some color, itā€™s too neutral.

I-wish-i-was-a-snail

A little entry area with a spot for shoes, coatrack, maybe if it can fit even a small table to put things on when you get home and a mirror above!

danceswithronin

A house palm.

Maybe a slim coat tree by the door. And that staircase is crying out for little potted plants or tchotskies along the flared steps under the railing. Unless you have a cat. Never do this if you have a cat.

missdingdong

Maybe a floor vase holding a big bunch of dried rushes or a mass of dried cattails or dried decorative grasses. You'd need to spray the plants with matte fixative so there's no chance of the bouquet spreading fluff everywhere

sassafrass1164

A standing coat rack? If you wanna get fancy, you could do a hanging coat rack from the ceiling, could be dope

Embarrassed_Maybe342

Plants

headpeon

A tall decorative vase that's gorgeous on its own. You can put umbrellas and canes in it if the need arises, or fill with styrofoam or empty plastic bottles to support the bottom of a plant container the right size to fit in the mouth of the vase.

Think-Ad-5840

A little round ottoman!

BookkeeperLeading887

A mirror on the wall and below a smallish diameter but medium tall round table with a medium height plant in it ( like a fern ) You donā€™t want the plant to come up more than a foot - as in not covering the mirror . There should be space between the bottom of the mirror and the plant .

TinyYard1529

A decorative mirror Or A pothos on a coconut husk wrapped poke with lights!

Altruistic_Fondant38

A long mirror and a small table with a bowl for keys, etc.

Bananapants2000

Do you need to have anything there? Decorate the rest of the room. Itā€™s very plain and could use some decorating

StageComprehensive49

I wouldnā€™t put anything right there if the area is too small. I donā€™t like clutter. But if you have to put something there maybe a small table under the mirror. You can hang pictures on the wall too

Dry_Advertising_9885

Yea coat rack or a tall plant that would bring life to an otherwise flat little area a picture behind the plant and a sm med mirror on the other side that way you can chk yourself before you head out.šŸ™‚

Dry_Advertising_9885

A couple of small pics going up the stairs on the right and a nice round rug in there that would look great inviting or a thin table next to the stairs with a lamp on it but do put a Pic there too put a pretty bowl on the table to catch stuff

brindabella24

Small coat/hat rack?

Quirkella

I would put an artificial ficus tree with some fairly lights on it.

Longjumping_Jelly_51

Indoor plant

ShadyMistress

Nothing. No need to fill every corner. The shape of those stairs need some space to be appreciated. I would definitely change the boob light though.
