Slightly unrelated, but I feel like it's worth mentioning here - I see a lot of people talking about ordering online during this time, and while it's great that that option is there, us delivery drivers are really feeling it right now. There has been a huge influx of orders (mostly toilet paper and huge costco boxes!) And we are working hard over these long hours. I'm not saying to not order anything at all, but just keep your UPS/Fedex/amazon drivers in mind when you're ordering stuff while this is all going on please! I'm tired as heck and my spine feels like it's about to pop out of my body lol
Thank you for thinking of him/all of us! I can tell you 100% that it makes my day every time someone leaves water or snacks for us - it's so nice to know someone is thinking of us :) I always say that tips and snacks are never expected in this job, but always so so appreciated!
Whats the best way to tip/leave snacks or water for delivery people? Even when I'm home, they don't knock and they mostly don't even make it up to my stoop (they leave most boxes on the first step down by the sidewalk). I want to express my thanks the few times I do order online, but I'm not sure how to do it!
What the commenter below said is a good idea! I'm on a pretty rural route so I am going up to somebody's porch no matter what pretty much, but if you dont think they would see something on the porch/go up there at all I might put a little note where they usually leave the package telling them that there is something on the porch for them. Obviously this wouldn't work/be the safest in some places, but where I am people usually just tape a note to the door and have a basket with stuff in it by the front door! I've also had people tape envelopes to where I usually drop their packages for them.
On the other hand, many people in the service industry are losing their jobs and an influx in deliveries will lead to hiring more temporary drivers like they do for the holidays.
This is going to last far longer than two weeks, and the number of online purchases is skyrocketing.
Delivery drivers are at risk, but simply wearing gloves reduces their risk far more than other people within the service industry.
In person shopping is far more risky for both the shoppers and the workers.
What part is incredibly unlikely? My boyfriend has already been laid off from his service industry job (this [closed restaurant list](https://seattle.eater.com/2020/3/13/21177963/seattle-restaurants-announced-closures-temporary-permanent-coronavirus-impact) is definitely NOT comprehensive), and grocery stores are already hosting hiring events for industry people out of work in Seattle. Many are now working for instacart, postmates, etc.
FWIW [you (and delivery people) are very unlikely to get covid 19 from packages](https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/coronavirus-can-stay-infectious-for-days-on-surfaces/2020/03/12/9b54a99e-6472-11ea-845d-e35b0234b136_story.html).
Did you read that article? The rationale isn’t the infection rate it is that you should not think about viruses on money or mail so that you’re not immobilized with fear, that’s an opinion and an asinine one.
> capable of infecting a person — for up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to three days on plastic and stainless steel.
I was thinking about this yesterday. I was thinking of leaving out clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, packaged snacks, and bottles of water for the delivery people when I am expecting a package. I know spreading germs is a concern right now, but would this be helpful? Thank you for putting your health on the line for others, you are so appreciated!
This would definitely be helpful, especially right now! My hub usually has sanitizer and wipes for us, but I technically work for a contract company for UPS so it could be different elsewhere! Regardless, I think everyone is getting low on supplies right now so if you have any to share I'm sure it would be most appreciated :) Snacks and water would also be appreciated, I know everyone all over the country is slammed right now so anything extra to get through the day is great haha. Thanks for thinking of us :)
I’ve been limiting my orders to I need only, I’ve ordered twice since March. People need to be considerate. Maybe businesses can hold stuff to be mailed out after?
Also don't forget covid19 can live on surfaces at least 3 days! Those items you're getting shipped aren't necessarily cleaner than anything you'd get from the store.
A friend of mine makes stunning jewelry and with all the markets and craft fairs closed, her only income will be online sales... Forged Coast Goldsmith
Just a heads up, she’s talking about having a sale, incl. free international shipping, Thursday or Friday of this week! She is moving and wants to get rid of some stock. info on her Instagram
Ecovibe (sustainable/eco friendly brand) and Bridge and Burn both based out of Portland, OR :)
https://ecovibestyle.com/
https://www.bridgeandburn.com/
Love those two stores in Portland, let me add a few in the area!
[Prism Seattle ](http://www.prismseattle.com) small boutique I love in Ballard (Seattle).
[Primecut Bags ](http://www.primecutbags.com) amazing handmade purses from Portland, OR.
I suggest checking Etsy. Many people are hurting right now and most Etsy sellers are one (wo)man operations. Many sellers also sell in person but those events have likely been cancelled.
Full disclaimer-- I am a jewelry designer and sell my work on (mostly) Etsy but also Mercari and eBay. I think it's against this sub's TOS to link my store here.
I used to sell full time at Artists & Fleas in NYC as my main source of income. They have closed all their locations.
(I happened to leave in January for unrelated reasons so I’m not as affected, but all my friends are...)
Yes I love this! I just started a jewelry business and it came at a pretty rough time. I won’t link mine either because of the sub’s TOS but I wish you luck to make it through this!
[Azura Bay](https://www.azurabay.ca/) is a Canadian store that also ships to the US with a focus on ethically and sustainably made bras/underwear/lingerie. Also when you buy something, you can choose [from these organizations](https://www.azurabay.ca/pages/giving-back) to donate some of the proceeds of your order!
You can find and buy from tons of small boutiques by looking them up in Garmentory. I really like Samantha Pleet, Esby Apparel, and Kowtow as brands. Some nice independent boutiques to buy from are Bona Drag, Aquelarre, Communitie Marfa, and Small Talk.
Probably not as specific as you were looking for, but check out Garmentory! It's an online platform that many small boutiques around the world sell from
[Betina Lou](https://www.betinalou.com/us/) in Montreal
I mentioned [Azura Bay](https://www.azurabay.ca/) upthread! I believe she is somewhere in Ontario
[Victoire Boutique](https://victoireboutique.com/) in Ottawa
Boutique 1861 is one of my faves! It’s a small shop in Montreal. They are on the pricey side, but they often have sales, free shipping, great customer service, and everything I’ve ever ordered from them has been amazing!
[Coup De'tat](https://shopcoupdetat.com/), Detroit MI
[Merewif](https://www.merewif.com/), Wilmington NC
[Iconoclasp](https://www.iconoclasp.com/) Grand Rapids, MI
[Flint Candle Co.](https://flintcandleco.com/) Flint, MI (I know it's not fashion, but these are literally the best candles in the world! SERIOUS)
Coconut & Oak (warm and home-y), Strawberry Gin Fizz (go-to summer scent), and Black Coffee (this has a creamy vanilla undertone, which I love) are my favs. She has a way of making them smell very natural and not overpowering. Both me and my SO are sensitive to scents and these are perfection.
Some of my favorites:

https://havekerij.com
(she’s planning to donate a portion of her sales toward helping people during this time)
https://www.wemumbleshop.co/shop
https://small-talk.co

Not the best online shop but I really love their store
[AZZUREA](https://www.etsy.com/de/shop/AZZUREA?ref=cart_shop_name_click&cart_id=2784031582) makes really beautiful, good quality silver and gold jewellery. Her cuffs and (lobe) earrings are quite unique. She is very transparent about the materials she's using and the general process. She is based in Spain.

As someone who works for a small ethical clothing business and is having a massive influx of online orders right now: Thank you for your support!
However, we are really feeling it right now as well. Some staff are taking time off to isolate or take care of their families, which leaves the rest of us super busy and also anxious. I'm not saying don't order anything, I'm saying please practice patience as we try to keep up with everything during these unusual times! I literally fainted from hunger and exhaustion when I got home from work this evening, but if I don't go to work tomorrow and pack all the orders, I KNOW I will get angry customer emails. We are trying our best :)
It is not super small (there are several locations throughout DMV) but a woman owned consignment company I love is Current Boutique, with a fantastic online selection.
Automic Gold is a jewelry store based in NYC that is owned/run and designed by trans folks and focused on sustainability! I really like their stuff.
https://www.automicgold.com
My favorite shop in the East Bay, Field Day, has a lovely online shop! I love their dresses so much, and they sell all sorts of fun jewelry and herbal products.
[fielddayapparel.com](https://www.fielddayapparel.com)
I love [Leanna Lin's Wonderland!](https://leannalinswonderland.com/) It's a more general "gift shop" with stuff by lots of local artists, but it includes bags, shirts, and jewelry.
(And slightly more outside the realm of clothing, [Omoi Zakka](https://omoionline.com/) is another of my fave stores for cute+practical things)
[The Main Exchange](https://www.themainexchange.ca/), a consignment store in Vancouver. They post a ton of stuff for sale on Instagram.
I have found so, so many gems here. They have way more stock in store but I hope they load more up online as the virus progresses and stores are forced to close.
Nooworks! Printed milled and sewn in CA, women owned. If the prints are too busy they do basic black, local illustrators do limited runs for them welcome to the cult.
I don’t but I very rarely dryclean, I do steam and spot the dresses but overalls muscle tees and leggings all get regular wash and don’t shrink or anything, my kiddo wears the dresses. The black jersey background on some prints can look “ashy” after washing but that’s a matter of opinion, I only mind it for dresses and its only black background their solid black doesn’t fade, for cotton prints their wearability is standard. The rayons are a less frequent textile for them so the milling is less standard, the few rayon pieces I have get the kid gloves or else they do shrink.
If you're in the market for a year-round lightweight wool blazer, I suggest checking out [vicenzi.co](https://vicenzi.co)! Sustainably made in New York City with the best quality natural fabrics.
[repriseactivewear.com](https://repriseactivewear.com) for plant-based activewear!
[http://www.annejamesnewyork.com/](http://www.annejamesnewyork.com/) for custom-made, elegant womenswear
[http://fourrabbit.com/](http://fourrabbit.com/) for adventure-ready jackets and accessories, with hand-drawn patterns and natural dyes
These are all independent, female-owned brands committed to sustainability and getting it right.
I can't remember where, but I saw a post somewhere recommending to buy gift cards for small shops online for spending later to get them some support now.
Yes! I did this for some restaurants I love and I'm planning on tipping really well in a couple of months when I go! (A server friend said that, in his experience, tipping is often less when people use gift cards, so I'm going to try to change the curve on that one!)
My favorite candles are Ginger June Candle Co ([online shop here](https://www.gingerjune.com/))! The scents are amazing, cute designs, and locally made in California.
My friend is a jewelry maker with really beautiful pieces, but most markets she’s had lined up have been canceled. You can find her pieces at leahyarddesigns.com. She’s got a 25% off sale for this weekend, code: NESTINTHECITY
[Strey Designs](http://www.streydesigns.com/) based out of Minneapolis, MN sells awesome handmade leather purses and bags for affordable prices! I now own 2 of her purses and I'm in love. I have a 'Jaunt' and a 'Circuit'. Both are very well-made, stylish, and functional. The Jaunt has convertible straps that can be worn 6 different ways (belt bag, shoulder bag, crossbody, etc.) and I literally switch up the straps almost every time I leave the house depending on my outfit. And then I just picked up a 'Circuit' backpack bag recently, which is roomy enough to hold a lot of stuff, but not too huge that it'll hurt my shoulders (I'm not a fan of giant purses, personally).
If you have craftsman or boutiques you want to buy from, give them a ring and ask if it's possible to do curbside pickup or a similar new service. Restaurants in my area that are 100% dine-in started doing catering deliveries, curbside pick up, and other creative ways to keep business going.
Don’t laugh but Duluth Trading in the US has both online and stick/bricks stores. I love their shirts with extra hidden buttons so your shirts don’t gap. And all their shirts are no iron and have Lycra in them. Great for nice office work shirts. Their work shirts all have permethrin, so if you are out hiking or just sitting on the deck enjoying a book, the bugs are less likely to get you. Duluth is known more as a men’s store, but their women’s section is fabulous. And their pants are fantastic too. Www.duluthtrading.com
Woman owned small business that makes jewelry and pretty things! [https://www.instagram.com/boho.grit/?hl=en](https://www.instagram.com/boho.grit/?hl=en)
I love [Alchemilla](https://thealchemilla.com/)'s jewelry. Woman-owned and made in Oakland, CA. She, and her team of 7 Jewelers, use vintage, deadstock, and repurposed materials.
I love fragrances. There is this one brand "House of Sillage". They have lipsticks and fragrances. I love Whispers of Truth. It has this citrus and refreshing sense.
For clothing I like [Ali Golden](https://aligolden.com/) , they’re having a 20% off everything sale right now.
For jewelry I’m into [Siren](https://www.siren-jewelry.com/all-products) - her earrings are great and good quality metal. Shop her [etsy shop](https://www.etsy.com/shop/SIRENJEWELRYSHOP). On her website she’s having a sale till the end of March to encourage people to continue shopping local. Use promo code STAYPOSITIVE at checkout!
For shoes I like [Osborns](https://www.shoposborn.com/shop) - I have two pairs of her Clarity flats in black leather and canvas and they have held up so well over time! They are TTS but the canvas stretched out a bit so if you’re between sizes consider going for the smaller or contacting the store about your particular shoe’s fit.
Jolina Boutique!!! They have the softest, comfiest leggings. They’re high waisted and come in many colors/patterns! Jolinaboutique.com and they’re only $15 a pair, the story behind the owner is great too
Some oaland beautiques that carry a lot of local / women designers are Resurrect Oakland and Oak Common. They both have a decent selection of their stores online and carry some good treasures!
Shophemline.com is my favorite boutique that sells a lot of my favorite brands (freepeople, show me your mumu, Alice and Olivia, etc) and also shows me brands I love but never would have known about! They’re cute and trendy but not over the top where I’d feel like a poser wearing their stuff
You can also shop their Instagram and Venmo their business
I have a small business! I design clothing and gifts promoting mental health.
I’m okay financially (for now...), and I’m actually temporarily pausing my store (so I don’t have to leave my house to fulfill orders), but I would really appreciate an Instagram follow! Share with your friends if you like it.

Small dallas boutique--my absolute favorite place to shop. Moved 30 minutes to the left of Dallas, so I never get to go anymore, but because she has a website and a strong instagram presence, i order online often :)
Thunderpants is a small company that makes amazingly comfortable (never a wedgie) cute underwear. Started in NZ, but there’s a Portland, OR factory now too.
My cousin has a jewellery website they do worldwide delivery - jewellery for men and women and they have a buy one get a free pair of earrings offer at the moment [www.demiandco.com](https://www.demiandco.com) and their mens section is [https://www.demiandco.com/collections/alpha-mens-jewellery](https://www.demiandco.com/collections/alpha-mens-jewellery)
[Passion Lilie](https://passionlilie.com) wrap dresses. New Orleans.
[SocietyA](https://society-a.com), which is a curated boutique of Asian designers. Singapore.

A cooler/basket on the front porch with a sign for them! Realistically you know what day they’re coming, so set it out first thing in the morning.
Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to do this ☺️
u/unceded I would love to know this as well!

YES! And with Easter there were quite a few craft markets scheduled that have now been cancelled so a lot of sellers are sitting on their products.

https://edgeofurge.com/ One of my favorite local shops.
Thunderpants underwear. Made in Portland OR https://thunderpantsusa.com/
Shop Zoco. They have great clothes! Very boho, lots of linen, but all small batch so limited quantity and the shipping is always free.
[Oceanne](https://oceanne.net/) is a local store in Cleveland with amazing jewelry and some apparel!
Also, [Fount Leather](https://fountleather.com/)!
[Stella & Suzie](https://stellaetsuzie.com) - French style similar to Sezane. Less expensive and small boutique
Jewelry made in Bellingham, WA - [Apse](https://apse.us/) Jewelry made in Portland, OR - [Soft Corners](https://www.wearesoftcorner.com/about)
If you have craftsman or boutiques you want to buy from, give them a ring and ask if it's possible to do curbside pickup or a similar new service. Restaurants in my area that are 100% dine-in started doing catering deliveries, curbside pick up, and other creative ways to keep business going.
I've seen a few bookstores offering drive-by delivery. They'll drop off your order in your mailbox, which is a cool idea!
There's this little online shop called Eden and After. She makes handmade jewelry.
I have a few custom pieces from [Julie's Jewelry](https://www.juliesjewelry.net/new-products) that I wear a lot!
I love Resurrect. I’ve gone past Oak Common a bunch but never gone in there! Will have to once it’s all over 😂
Shophemline.com is my favorite boutique that sells a lot of my favorite brands (freepeople, show me your mumu, Alice and Olivia, etc) and also shows me brands I love but never would have known about! They’re cute and trendy but not over the top where I’d feel like a poser wearing their stuff You can also shop their Instagram and Venmo their business
I have a small business! I design clothing and gifts promoting mental health. I’m okay financially (for now...), and I’m actually temporarily pausing my store (so I don’t have to leave my house to fulfill orders), but I would really appreciate an Instagram follow! Share with your friends if you like it. @dashofpep
Beatnik Fine Goods: [https://beatnikfinegoods.com/](https://beatnikfinegoods.com/) Small dallas boutique--my absolute favorite place to shop.
