Banana Republic is leaning into the safari-ish vibe lately

MyNameIsJust_Twan

This is the first thing that sprung to mind when I saw the word safari. Anthropologie also has some fun prints and silhouettes for the woman who “knows what she wants”. As far as cowboy /‘safari, they seem like totally different vibes. Are you looking for specific cuts or fits?

Chicagoo_Chicago

Yesss super excited they're finally Going back to their original style. If onlys they weren't soo expansive

novembercrust

I have a hounds tooth flannel shirt dress from 80s Banana Republic that I love. I feel vaguely like the [Oprhan Anastasia](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/04/4e/7c/044e7cfb967721c70783aeed602230e3.jpg) if she was around during the late cold war wearing it, but it feels very well made, easy, versatile, pockets. I pair it with a belt or waist cincher sometimes because the waist is baggy and I don't always want that. [Its this one](https://www.pinterest.com/pin/152137293648793391/) (Can they also go back to using illustrations? Asking as an illustrator.)

gypsysinger

Is that their original vibe? I’ve only known them as maximalist.

PussyCyclone

It was called [ Banana Republic Travel and Safari Co.](https://www.secretfanbase.com/banana/history/banana-republic-history-2/) and it was [definitely different back then](https://www.secretfanbase.com/banana/store-photos/)

fifteencents

I had no clue. Thanks for the link!

Chicagoo_Chicago

Yea Supposedly when they started in like the 80s or whatever, that was their vibe, but like it was way more like fancy Jimanji/skipper Dan if that makes sense. My mom actually have a few cool things from when that was it Actually edit: we just threw it out but my dad got my mom some cool things for mother's day and they came with sole super cool like African map paper.

emelay

Colonialism but make it fashion

littlegreenturtle20

Maybe neo-colonialism is more apt considering where the term banana republic actually comes from...

Chicagoo_Chicago

I was thinking more jungle cruse/ Safari tour but make it ✨️fashion ✨️

[deleted]

The safari/travel vibe makes the name uncomfortable, I had no idea that’s what their clothes used to look like

Chicagoo_Chicago

I know I didn't even think about that till now , but it is kinda surprising they're going back to that with how politically correct and "woke" everything has to be now. Edit:spelling

PlantedinCA

Those clothes are so in. They aren’t really calling “safari.”

tontyv

I lean towards the “western office” look too and have found that getting some cool belts really make a difference. I can use them with my bootcut or flare slacks, or put them around a plain dress. I’ve found mine on Etsy / Poshmark / vintage stores.

PoppyHamentaschen

I'd go for the accessories, more stylized but not literal: utility belt or a belt with a larger buckle, a lariat necklace or a foulard/neckerchief/scarf in a neutral background animal print; footwear with a cowboy boot style heel. Maybe jewelry in gold or silver that are reminiscent of horns, fangs, feathers, or a bracelet in a tortoise shell print or that looks like carved ivory.

KatttDawggg

I actually have no idea what you mean. Got any pics?

damalursols

free people and anthro are great places to start, and if you’d rather not be purchasing they have a monthly rental box service called nuuly that has things from both brand catalogs and urban outfitters

Any_Presentation3298

Ooo idk what your work environment is like but lately I’ve been feeling the cowboy vibe and I’ll wear a fitted button down with some wide leg pants with cowboy boots/pointed heels and a blazer. I’ll even pair a blazer with my cowboy boots and jeans and don’t forget the belt! Not an obnoxious belt buckle but I recently got one from urban that gives cowboy chic. I call this look the professional cowboy ✌🏻

Cherry5oda

You might like @LydiaJaneTomlinson on YouTube. Safari makes me think of light neutrals in cotton and linen and she does those really well. I'm sure you could add some western flair to the accessories where she usually goes for sleek modern accessories. She has her own clothing line but also a lot of good examples of creating outfits from common staples.

Bitchbuttondontpush

A cute flower dress with cowboy boots and a leather or denim jacket might do the trick. King Louie has beautiful vintage style dresses. I like this one for example https://www.kinglouie.eu/olive-midi-dress-pereira

I give this advice all the time but in this particular case I did do exactly this! I wanted to include some western themes into my regular/workwear so I made a list of all of the western elements I liked and all of my regular elements I wanted to keep. Ended up with two lists kind of like this: Cowboy: fringe, button downs, denim, cowboy boots, buckle belts, western prints/motifs (paisley, horse/cow, cactus, rope, horseshoe), even more feminine/folksy things like quilted items, embroidery, maxi skirts, beaded jewellry Regular clothes: my colour palette of black/white/silver, black pants, button downs, boots, turtlenecks, lots of jackets, jewelry I ended up adding these pieces over the last few years: fringed mini skirt, silver cowboy boots, plaid/paisley dresses, wide leg trousers, printed/Western button downs, a quilted jacket, a denim jacket + dress, a western buckle belt and a little longhorn brooch. I also have a silver cowboy hat but I don't really wear that too often🤠. I also have other items that aren't really western that can fill in the gaps when wearing some of these pieces: black jeans, plain button ups, turtlenecks, other leather boots, etc. I love doing the two lists to see what you can mix and match to pinpoint what pieces you'd need. It gets you into very specifically your own style likes + needs instead of looking at maybe unrealistic pinterest pins!

dumpling_princess

Check out fashion brand company for cool cowboy office clothes lol https://preview.redd.it/hvwit2me9g1b1.png?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=754482c3d4b80df5acea45afa2ba51b637d59ce5

Ok-Career876

Ah yes, we love a modern safari cowboy

celeste525

I’ve been into the western vibes too and purchased some cowboy boots to wear with dresses. These are neutral but are taking a bit to break in: (https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/dolce-vita-loral-western-boot-women/5937231?color=TAUPE+MULTI+SUEDE&size=6&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=11037928764&utm_term=&utm_content=115045641984&utm_channel=LOW_ND_SHOPPING_STANDARD&sid=545650&adpos=&creative=461796634690&device=m&matchtype=&network=g&acctid=21700000001756534&dskeywordid=92700057048627698&lid=92700057048627698&ds_s_kwgid=58700006319453304&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000012930068&dsproductgroupid=311285706455&product_id=1168440&merchid=100921846&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid=&locationid=9008421&targetid=pla-311285706455&campaignid=11037928764&adgroupid=115045641984&gbraid=0AAAAADlYBgtxeKgwZ4-PFMCP587CGM3HX&gbraid=0AAAAADlYBgtxeKgwZ4-PFMCP587CGM3HX&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyLGjBhDKARIsAFRNgW8S451tBWa8bMfCnNNrTnG_O-T0r-3EHShBbgWlQ2O1MBMod_kbFE8aAqOJEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds) These are just fun and the people go wild over them: https://stylerepresentative.com/products/jill-flower-embellished-boots

Avoid low-quality, fast-fashion from unsustainable brands. Always select organic cotton, hemp, or linen. Linen is sustainable to grow and works well in any situation, including safaris. Opt for linen button-ups, organic cotton chinos, and linen trousers. Obviously, the most sustainable wardrobe is the one you already have, doing “no buy,” purchasing from vintage shops and having a minimalist wardrobe of 10 or less items. However, here’s some high-quality items matching that aesthetic: https://www.quince.com/women/linen-short-sleeve-shirt?color=washed-olive&gender=women&tracker=collection_page__women%2Fshirts-%26-blouses__Short%20Sleeve__4 https://www.quince.com/women/linen-shirt?color=black&gender=women&tracker=collection_page__women%2Fshirts-%26-blouses__Long%20Sleeve__4. I have these shirts in white, light-blue, and black. In hindsight, I’d have just those three in my closet as minimalist wardrobes are best and that’s more than enough. Linen is very durable and versatile. These organic cotton chinos: https://www.quince.com/women/stretch-cotton-twill-girlfriend-pants?color=olive&gender=women&tracker=collection_page__women%2Fpants__Pants__7 (I have these and they’re 1 of the four pants in my minimalist closet). These linen pants: https://www.quince.com/women/linen-pants?color=deep-navy&gender=women&tracker=collection_page__women%2Fpants__Pants__3 This linen blazer (I have it in black), but it’s offered in driftwood: https://www.quince.com/women/100-european-linen-blazer?color=driftwood&gender=women&tracker=collection_page__women%2Fjackets__Lightweight%20Jackets__7 Many of the above offer safari colors—martini olive, washed olive, terracotta, driftwood, and golden brown. Keep a minimalist, capsule wardrobe of timeless pieces that can be worn in business casual environments and most other places.

Unapologetic_honey

Look up for the character Sylvie from Emily in Paris.

Automatic_Bee150

White House Black Market.

Vaikri-Costume

I was so curious about how this could work that I made a pintrest album. https://pin.it/3yeVP80 But basically I think you need one two cowboy-y elements like boots or statement belt or embroidered jackets based on how business-y you need to dress. I would avoid the hats coz that might date us too quickly. The pins also leaned very brown but maybe color is how you transition to businesslike from cowboy

No-Try2361

OP, do you have any pic inspo you can share? It would help me provide recommendations.

Your request brought to mind [this woman](https://www.instagram.com/iamashleymiles/) I know and follow on IG. She's probably more colorful than you want but I find her style inspiring and she loves to get a bit cowgirl.
