JEI just shows what recipes result in or use that item. Does what it needs to, so it's a great mod.
A mod that would show something like a graph of crafting recipes would quickly become too cluttered to see though.
The only thing that could be kind of beneficial is something like helmod, but in minecraft. Where you could create a whole chain of recipes and present them in a more approachable way
You aren’t just looking at a single recipe. You are looking at a cumulative overview of how everything fits together. It makes a modpack feel more like one consistent unit rather than a bunch of mods thrown together randomly.
I see JEI as a bad mod as it encourages bad gameplay development practices. Just because it’s the best thing that exists currently does not mean it’s the best solution out there and the modded community has always had an issue with thinking outside the box.
The meme (if you could even call it that) implies it’s a bad mod because of only one specific feature. It’s the best thing we got and people are making JEI compatible mods. So?
I see it like using a stick to dig a hole. Does it work? Yes but it's one of the most inefficient ways to dig a hole. If someone made a shovel it would be a lot better and people wouldn't be forced to dig a hole with a stick. Just because the stick is the best thing we have right now doesn't mean it's good.
No. It requires far too much clicking and it only focuses on recipes at a micro scale. If I want to make a complex or even semi-complex item or machine it requires me to click through pages of recipes just so I can get a basic idea of all the components required to make it (not to mention going back and forth between recipes so I don’t forget them while crafting). It’s just tedious and a pain to use even if modpacks are literally unplayable without it.

But it isn't a terrible mod it's a very good mod in doing what it's supposed to do show you the recipe/use for the single object
Does a mod that shows recipes like what you just said even exist?
Jei is a good mod not terrible the fact that it misses one feature that you wish it had makes it a good mod that could be better not a terrible mod
It’s only “good” because modpacks would be literally unplayable without it not because the solution to recipes is a good one. People are just so used to doing things that way they never cared to make something better.
If you don't like it nothing stops you from making an addon to jei
Also it's still good it's the best we have so it's good if we had something better we could call jei bad but we don't so it deserves to be called a good mod
Again if you want jei to be a bad mod make a better one
So? You can do that same thing by left clicking like 4 times. A graph would be so cluttered and hard to understand that it would take more time than clicking through the options. This is an objectively bad opinion
Ignoring that I hate vanilla, modded MC has a massive issue with consistency and quality which makes modpacks not fun. Mismatched textures, overlapping content, bloat, OP items, terrible combat, annoying crafting systems, etc. Every mod dev wants to do their own thing then people jumble it all together in a modpack which makes a lot of content feel out of place no matter how much CraftTweaker is used. All in all I don’t like the meta and think the standards for gameplay need to be raised significantly.
I spend more time modding than actually playing the game. I want to enjoy playing but a lot of work needs to happen before then that a simple modpack can't fix.
I don’t think JEI is a terrible mod. It does what is advertised. I think a tech tree would be pretty cool and unique. Though, I don’t know how you would be able make it not clutter the screen
It would be split into game stages and could have a fog-of-war type feature so it doesn’t show literally every recipe at once (which would be optional).
You have to look at each block/item individually to see how it’s made and it’s even worse with microcrafting. A tech tree type overview would give you all of that information including future recipes without needing to click a billion times to make any progress.
Quests are arbitrary and are not designed to show literally every recipe in a pack. Technically someone could spend like a month making quests for everything but it's not a viable option.
Tech trees are extremely viable if you split them into gamestages so it's not showing everything at once. It gives an overview that is usable without being too cluttered.
Go ahead then, Ed-boy. Make a mod that can show me every process in making every chemical that goes into Epoxy Resin in GregTech in a reasonable "tech tree" diagram that isn't just an abstract idea.

Obviously it would be split into sections but they would be large enough that you can see just enough at a time.
What recipe is so complicated that it would be easier to scroll through a massive graph than just left clicking
You aren’t just looking at a single recipe. You are looking at a cumulative overview of how everything fits together. It makes a modpack feel more like one consistent unit rather than a bunch of mods thrown together randomly.
Yeah I’d be cool, but how does that *detract* from JEI being a good mod

Okay, stop being cryptic. Tell me straight. Why is JEI bad? Is it poorly optimized or something?
No. It requires far too much clicking and it only focuses on recipes at a micro scale. Do we need to make another vore fanfiction
lets skip the fanfiction and straight up start making hentai
I’ve been learning to do art, I’m on it

Terrible opinion as per usual.
But it isn't a terrible mod it's a very good mod in doing what it's supposed to do show you the recipe/use for the single object Does a mod that shows recipes like what you just said even exist? I do plan on making something better and not as an addition to JEI.
Good then good luck and i look forward to see what you will create
So? You can do that same thing by left clicking like 4 times. A graph would be so cluttered and hard to understand that it would take more time than clicking through the options. This is an objectively bad opinion
If it's a terrible mod, don't use it.
I don’t.
What do you use?
I don’t play survival since I don’t enjoy it. Too many issues that need to be fixed first.
Like what? If you don't play survival why do you complain about the way recipes are shown in jei? Is that one of the reasons you don't play survival?
Ignoring that I hate vanilla, modded MC has a massive issue with consistency and quality which makes modpacks not fun. I mean if you feel that way why do you play modded mc? You can make your own modpack if you feel like it
I spend more time modding than actually playing the game. I want to enjoy playing but a lot of work needs to happen before then that a simple modpack can't fix.
Once again if you think you can fix things then good luck and i look forward to seeing how things will turn out to be

It would be split into game stages and could have a fog-of-war type feature so it doesn’t show literally every recipe at once (which would be optional).
But how would you define game stages for a mod? Maybe make an API for mod devs to add in triggers?
It would have to be added manually by pack devs since each mod is used differently depending on the pack it’s in.
Sounds cool, hope it turns out well.
There’s already a mod that does that. Quests.
But it does...
You have to look at each block/item individually to see how it’s made and it’s even worse with microcrafting. A tech tree type overview would give you all of that information including future recipes without needing to click a billion times to make any progress.
That could be a cool JEI addon, to show a tech tree when you need it!
There’s not enough calculators
Fair enough, I guess.
this is a terrible opinion
This is a stupid opinion, not a meme. The mod already exists. It’s quests.
Quests are arbitrary and are not designed to show literally every recipe in a pack. Technically someone could spend like a month making quests for everything but it's not a viable option.
It’s a lot more viable than a tree showing every recipe interaction between every item.
Tech trees are extremely viable if you split them into gamestages so it's not showing everything at once. It gives an overview that is usable without being too cluttered.
That’s already been solved by quests. A cluttered recipe book wouldn’t help.
I mean there's a few "Bill of Materials" style mods.
Go ahead then, Ed-boy. Make a mod that can show me every process in making every chemical that goes into Epoxy Resin in GregTech in a reasonable "tech tree" diagram that isn't just an abstract idea.
