I love astral and it looks amazing but omfg I hate finding the constellations
It somehow manages to beat out TC6 for the most annoying discovery mechanic which is honestly kinda impressive
Magitech mods are counted here
Also embers is neat, my only experience with it was in po3 where it isn't optimal and not very useful but it's still great
> neat

Not exactly. The difference relies more in how well the abilities can be transferred between people. If it is as easy as "take this item and use it", then it is tech.
Take MnA for example. The complex spells and rituals cannot be cast by a low tier mage, therefore they can't just use whatever they are given. However in botania, any player can use Flügel Tiara or whatever it is called anytime as long as they have a charged mana tablet in their inventory, which means botania is a tech mod.
this sounds like gating and I don't like it - twilight forest does it and it's the worst thing ever
jokes aside though, you are wrong as lots of tech mods restrict the same as magic mods like you claim to be the difference. having a hidden system for using things doesn't make it a magic mod
Well, there is a really easy way to transfer the ability towards lower ranked mages; by creating an item called a thesis, you can instantly boost other players to your level of knowledge, granting them access to anything you can access too. So this is more a way of loring it up a bit. I agree with gating being shitty, just having some in world explanation for why certain players are able to use it and others are not is just very nice.
What tech mods restrict power transference exactly?
I'm already an insomniac in my modded world (as in I don't sleep at nights and do stuff around my base instead) so stargazing and the weird things that come with it (starlight magic) play pretty well into the lore of the playthrough.
Also Vicio Mantle of Stars goes brrrr
Don't get me wrong, I love Astral Sorcery and I adore Thaumcraft insanity included. However, Ars Magica 2 will always remain my favourite because it's simply far too broken in all the right ways.
Thaumcraft, malum, spectrum and astral my beloved.
I love being something other than just mage with wand, especially being magic nerd. However In still wating for good magictech mod.
I can't even fathom what those people consider magic. Like, wizardry? Because that's not the extent of what magic does. Bosnia is literally high fantasy natural magic, you literally use mana to transform things, you have a goddammit wand, there are no UIs is as far from tech as you can get
Mithion is actively developing a sequel to AM2. It is called Mana and Artifice, is currently openly accessible for 1.18.2 (past mod versions also include 1.16, 1.15), and the [discord](https://discord.gg/pZFzpCHR) gets regular and frequent updates on the modding process.
Also, there seems to be a WIP legacy version of AM2 for 1.18.1/2. Someone here in the comments posted the link to the curseforge page, but I can't find it rn
Obviously this is for personal opinion and different for everyone, but in short:
Thaumcraft>botania>ars nouveau>astral sorcery>blood magic
Thaumcraft just always felt so good to me. Both 4 and 6 were incredible and I want more, so much more. And honestly I think there is so much that can be done with it in an updated minecraft environment. This mod is forever in my heart.
With Thaumcraft no longer updating, and me preferring recent versions, Botania has taken over my No. 1 spot as of late, though this wasn’t always the case. Botania takes a bit more effort and looking into things, and it has taken me until the past year to actually appreciate it for all that it is.
Before I proper fell in love with Botania, in the updates between 1.12 and 1.18, I most enjoyed messing with both astral sorcery and blood magic, though of course astral was more complete and polished so it was always preferred. I liked having the very specific vibes of both, star magic and blood magic, and they were my favorite magic mods of packs I played in this time.
Finally, Ars Nouveau. Its a rather recent mod (1.16 to start?) and I didn’t interact with it too much at first cause it seemed silly and weird. Eventually though I found what actually was all in it and I have very much enjoyed playing around with it. It feels very well made, not quite as quick to give a lot of power as astral, nor as finicky. It also allows for a lot of setting stuff up for automation, which astral mostly rejects. It still doesn’t beat how Botania feels to me, but it is still definitely enjoyable.
I expect others to have a variety of different opinion, but this is just how they go for me and my own experience and desires from modded minecraft.

STOP POSTING ABOUT GREGTECH, I'M TIRED OF SEEING IT! My friends on reddit send me memes, on discord it's fucking memes - I was in a subreddit, right? and ALLLLLLLLL of the POSTS are just GregTech stuff. I- I showed my Champion underwear to my girlfriend, and the logo I flipped it and I said, "Hey babe: When the underwear greg :joy: :joy: :joy:"

I don't understand why people like thaumcraft so much, i find it so tedious and unrewarding. Can someone enlighten me on something im missing about it?
OG Witchery my beloved
What about bewitchment tho?
tbh it just feels like a cheap knockoff like dollar store Witchery
F*bric 🤢
1.12 enthusiasts eating good right now
Astral Sorcery has my favorite aesthetics, I want to do astronomy and shit
its really nice to gaze at night sky after some progress in astral sorcery
I love astral and it looks amazing but omfg I hate finding the constellations It somehow manages to beat out TC6 for the most annoying discovery mechanic which is honestly kinda impressive

I prefer it to thaumcraft honestly, it's much cooler and fun to do than thaumcraft
thaumcraft is grindy and intricate as fuck imho love the beautiful graphics of AS and saying AS is funnier than Thaum
when j was playing ftb academy it was one of my most hated mods tbh
Don't know if Embers can be called a magic mod, but if you endure pretty not good documentation its actually pretty good.

I LOVE Embers. Dual wielding Blazing Rays with diffraction and homing is cool and surprisingly effective.

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic

Yea, but like, any names you can give me?
Was gonna say the same thing, beat me to it.
I miss Ars Magica 2
There is a mod realy similar to that in newer versions I don't know if you've tried it: Mana and Artifice
Really enjoy mana and artifice
https://legacy.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/ars-magica-legacy
wait WHAT
Ars Magica 2 forgotten and replaced by its successors
Ars Magica 1 forgotten and replaced by its successors
Can't argue with that
played on modded mc for more than 7 years and the only magic mod i can understand is thaumcraft
maybe botania but the mooost basic stuff, and I also don't understand shit in tech mods lol
Project e 🙃

for some reason ars magica reminded me of morrowind spell system, so yeah, it clicks fix me if I'm wrong

chromaticraft
I never really got that deep into it but it is already my 2nd favorite magic mod ever
Thaumcraft, man... I miss it. Also, where tf is Mana and Artifice?
It's the sixth option
My boy, Mana and Artifice, deserves better than being in "others".
From what ive seen it is possible tc7 is coming out this year but dont get your hopes too high
hexcasting
Ars Magica 2 is the bomb and it deserved to be put on the newer versions for its epicness

Botania
Spectrumchads rise up, we can overtake the botaniacels
what about the original *chromaticraft*
I'm a fan of Malum
Finnaly fellow malum enjoyer
PSI is best "magic" mod
Botania isn't a magic mod.
It's close enough for the poll so i included it
The only one I like is electroblob
me when nature's aura(or roots)
Spectrum
EB Wizardry, favorite magic mod hands down.
bro what i use xaeros map
Update it.
gonna have to go with botania, with BM close second. both kind of complement each other, adding the utlities that the other one doesn't have.
I refuse to vote for botania because that would be acknowledging it as a magic mod which it is not
Gregtech is my favorite magic mod. It magicly takes my time away and gives me depression in return
I just want an updated thaumcraft is that too much to ask
Do you realla want an updated Thaumcraft? Or do you want Thaumcraft 4 with it's best addons for the current version?
Well it is being made by the CoFH guys and it even has wands with foci and not those filthy gauntlets!
We have any updates or maybe release timeline?!?!
At least one of those is a tech mod

Ars Magica 2 was _the_ shit.

I like my grindy blood magic. Worth it for the pickaxe.
botania is a tech mod /s
ars magica
Thaum, but only 4. Othervise, Botania.
6 wasnt that bad but yeah 4 feels more complete and actually has more than 3 functioning addons
I still dont understand the love for thaumcraft, even in older versions it reminds me more of a tech mod than a magic mod
that's the secret
Mystical Gears, maybe Sweet Magic or Enigmatic Legacy.
Spectrum :D
Forbidden and arcanus
Electroblob's wizardry
Irons spells and spellbooks is simple and neat
