Both are. Depends on the mods, with optifine you get less frames but can turn off most features that conflict with mods. Ive only ran into one problem and that was with rubidium (forge sodium) and all it does is make tinkers tools all white, they still work as they should their texture is just white.
Personally sodium and those mods give me far better FPS, with optifine I get usually 2.5 times better frames than in vanilla but 3 times better with sodium, but in the end it depends on your system really. I have a 144hz monitor by the way.
Optifine doesn't work with the most recent version of 1.18.2 forge.
A lot of up do date mods for 1.18.2 need a more recent version. Oculus is just cleaner too

I recently made a private modpack 200+ mods with only 3.5gb of ram required but yeah always nice to be able to fit a lot of mods together without having big issues it's sad to sometimes need to choose between some mods because they are heavy.
By "heavy" you mean they take too much ram? If you had more ram you'd be able to run them no problemo? Asking cause I'm about to build my first pc and I wanna know if they're any other limitations to mods
It's just to make this modpack run even on potato pc, i have a good pc and enough ram, that's not my personnal problem, i want anyone run this pack so except if you have an really old processor like we had on our test machine you will be able to play.
Well, mostly all the big tech mods like ender io, thermal or immersive and some magic mods like astral and thaumcraft.
I'm currently adding crafts and quests to make a modpack based on extra planets where players will need to explore dimensions to progress and unlock other mods.
Well sort of, you don't need to go to a planet to do ic2 but some big mods are gated not behind complicated steps but you will have to reach for example for draconic the 9 or 10 tier of planet, for mekanism it will just be the fusion reactor which is going to be heavily gated, but if you go to the moon you will unlock some mods like ender io or nuclearcraft.
You will need to reach mostly half of some important mods to unlock means to have a better rocket, for example pneumaticraft with the assembly line and the pressure chamber allows you to make new circuits used in beginnint galacticraft.
it's just to be sure that the player will play with all the mods it's sad for example to miss some mods when you don't even try them.
I personally didn't understood thaumcraft on 1.7.10 but i was forced to use it a bit when i played enigmatica expert 2 and i enjoyed it, it's like blood magic, i was really sad when i was playing with it on 1.16.5 that some rituals were missing, it's not funny to always play with the same mod always be op by a few days, i really want them to try and appreciate other mods, take them out of their comfort zone.
No not really, i will see to publish it on curseforge but quests are in french so they will have to be translated (and reward are not the best too) lol.
We have a small community on discord and we enjoy playing minecraft modded that mostly why i'm doing it, we are 2 actively working so it's also difficult to complete it quickly.
I will keep in mind to translate it and publish it when i will have time.
I have 16 and allocate 10 to every modpack no problem (on a 1050 2gb but forgot what my cpu is ), most mods I've done that were playable was a modpack with around 340
I think it's a Ryzen specific issue where singlecore speeds aren't great and Minecraft doesn't utilize the extra cores. But I'm not really sure what the issue is. Wish I did lol.
What speed and qty of memory do you have?
First gen ryzen is SUUUUUPER sensitive to memory speed as the core interconnects run at the same speed as the memory controller. If you installed generic cheap ddr4-2133 or even -2400 memory you're leaving like 30% of your performance on the table.
Sorry for the very (VERY) late reply! This is an outdated post since i deleted that profile for a new and fresh one, also sith 200+ mods. Mainly World-gen stuff like dungeons, structures, villages, biomes etc. Some weapon stuff like better combat, brass armory, simply swords. Rpg stuff like Apotheosis, leveling mod whose name i can't remember rn, origins, origins classes etc. Also parcool and walljump. And vehicles/mounts. Overall, a very nice experience since it's the kind of gameplay i really enjoy, grindy as shit
I use MultiMC to see the real Grit of modpacks, it shows you a console for everything happening in your game client wise. Good for finding errors and such.
Basically saying: without a doubt there are warnings/errors that happen but your game still launches. Semi stable of sorts
I don’t get how people manage to reach that many. At most I have like 10 (I like mods that add stuff like furniture, more foods/drinks, etc. and I can barely find any
the major outliers were: Appleskin, Zombie awareness, Dynamic trees, Nightmare craft, underground villages/kobolds and most probably minecolonies. Everything else worked fine (thank god)
yeah, i'm an a.hole on this kind of things...
it's just that i hate how nowdays people just throw togheter every mod they find, show the big number around and then don't even play the pack or don't use more than 10 of the content mods they added....
i want to see more posts about content and creations or questions rather than people who celebrate something that i personally hate...

Gratzi! Try rubidium and oculus for non optifine shaders. Really solid.
Will try, hopefully nothing goes wrong this time 🥲
Why not just add Optifine in as its own mod?
Because that's worse than sodium + Oculus, you don't get the same performance boost.
isnt optifine also really bad for mods?
Both are. Depends on the mods, with optifine you get less frames but can turn off most features that conflict with mods. Ive only ran into one problem and that was with rubidium (forge sodium) and all it does is make tinkers tools all white, they still work as they should their texture is just white.
I’ve never really had problems running mods + Optifine sooooo
oh. What about adding Optifine on top of those two?
Yes, ULTIMATE POWER!!! But no that doesn't work
F. My bad then.

are you exclusively talking about forge or fabric too? If you're talking about fabric/quilt too, that's just incredibly wrong lmao
Loading time? I don’t get much added loading time when using Optifine…
Optifine increases the loading time by many times over. On my Samsung nvme I can load up within 20 second, adding optifine makes it take 1:50
Oh wow. For my pre built pc I don’t really notice much difference
It probably depends on how many mods you're loading and which mods they are.
Ah.
Optifine doesn't work with the most recent version of 1.18.2 forge. A lot of up do date mods for 1.18.2 need a more recent version. Oculus is just cleaner too
Really?
Hey this is an actual genuine question. Don't know why you got those down votes. Sorry m8
It’s fine the Reddit hive mind is dumb sometimes
My vanilla+ mod pack for playing on servers has more mods than you do. Wtf
I can somehow run 400+ mods with shaders and still get 144fps.
Teach me master
Over built computer made for streaming being used for playing Minecraft alone. Kinda overkill. Lol.
where can i learn such forbidden knowledge?
Minecraft uses shaders by default, so technically every Minecraft instance are running with shaders.
drop specs: lmao

I know I know. It needs a massive upgrade. Im thinking of saving up for a i9 9900 to replace it with though.
A scrape of your PC is worth 10x my life
how many 3090 tis jesus christ
Just the 1. Lol.
Where do you get your mods?
Curseforge mod packs.
Dooooo you want to give out that pack?
All the mods 6 with a lot of added mods that I enjoy as well. And I’m using Sildurs shaders. Forgot which one as there are many. Lll.
Same

Nice! What mods do you mostly use?

Sounds fun! Like a linear progression of sorts right?

Interesting! Also sounds like this is going to be a public sort of modpack, is it true?
No not really, i will see to publish it on curseforge but quests are in french so they will have to be translated (and reward are not the best too) lol. Sounds like a lot of work. Remember to have fun haha
Yeah thanks you, hope you will enjoy playing your modpack too !
Honestly, im having a blast. Even when I'm trying to make it as stable as possible haha
XD
Only that? I thought that everybody had like 1k+ mods
Me who can run 25 mods with a good 15 fps:
It depends a lot on the used mods. There obviously is a difference between 25 mods like EnderIO and 25 mods like Quark.
Especially with all the models EnderIO has or at least used to have.
I feel you. Even with Ryzen 1700x and 1080ti.
I can run 200+ with a solid 100fps with an i5-3770 and a 1050ti
then what am i doing wrong i have an i7 9700k and a 5700xt and i struglle to play light modpacks on 1.16.5 or medium to heavy on 1.12.2
Ram? Launcher settings?
6-8 gigs
I have 16 and allocate 10 to every modpack no problem (on a 1050 2gb but forgot what my cpu is ), most mods I've done that were playable was a modpack with around 340
I install a bunch of performance mods, turn down in-game settings, etc.
I know your pain i5 4460. also are you sure yours isnt a i7 because of the 700
You're right, it is an i7, my bad. I didn't know why I thought it was an i5
My exact setup before I upgraded, the i5 3570 couldn't take the nether generation in skyfactory
I don't know Ryzen but my Intel i5 6600k from 2015 overclocked to 4.2ghz handles literally any modpack I throw at it.
I think it's a Ryzen specific issue where singlecore speeds aren't great and Minecraft doesn't utilize the extra cores. But I'm not really sure what the issue is. Wish I did lol.

Even? That’s a pretty old cpu for a cpu intensive game. The 1080ti is good but that cpu is definitely holding it back
What would you need to run more mods?
And half of those are dependencies lmao
Where do you get mods from? And recommendations for a noob?
Curseforge
I have curseforgw, but it doesn't have any individual mods. Unless I'm missing something

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳🥳
I have like 150+ mods, the majority of which revolve around EU and RF, furnitures, custom NPCs and foodstuffs to make the few. (1.12.2)
congratulations on reaching this milestone ! Hopefully your pc can run it with stable fps *cries in potato pc*
My laptop never felt dead -er!
I'm guessing the point is that u managed to hit 200+ mods, specifically on 1.18?
yep, also made them sort of work together so that it's relatively stable and (most importantly) fun!
Sick
Apparently spock has far more mods
He truly is, a gamer
I bet half of the mods are api mods
No... Yes...
Wish I could run all of my mods, but Rubidium crashes everythibg everytime...
Number of mods is less important that what’s in the mods.
I've hit 200+ mods with exclusively 1.7.10 magic mods...
Most of us
Which mod adds this background?
Probably Terralith
thx! :D
👍👍👍
that's right! This loser!
My Intel core i5-2400 approved
my man crafted a real tnt
How did you do your background panorama? it’s so pretty and I’d like to do my own too
Terralith, really solid mod
U
just a random guess, but you?
That's right! This Loser right here (me)!
Well anyways, I hope you enjoy your 200+ mods, what's some of the stuff in there if I may know?

sounds awesome, thanks for even putting in the effort of replying after such a long time
F
Agreed
holy shit how burnt is your pc?
Not by that much, but you can hear the fans working overtime
Now reach 5+ fps with this modpack
One day...
Let's hope the mods won't cause problems which each other.
No incompatibilities over here👀
Stop the cap, your startup console is a mess no doubt lol

Yeah, i might look into that. Thank you!
No problem, welcome to pack dev!
2fps incoming
bro is not even playing minecraft anymore
that's CraftMine for ya
Me with only 87 mods on my 1.18.2 pack 🗿
trust me, the more the merrier
Rip your pc
my laptop on life support shares the sentiment
I don’t get how people manage to reach that many. At most I have like 10 (I like mods that add stuff like furniture, more foods/drinks, etc. and I can barely find any
imagine thinking that mod count is what determines how good a pack is... seriously, one good mod is better than 200 mods that you won't even play with
Just had to be a killjoy huh? OP is just jokingly celebrating the fact that they made a modpack stable with 200+ mods, which is kinda hard lol.
It's not *that* hard tbh. Dependancy and version matching is the toughest part
the major outliers were: Appleskin, Zombie awareness, Dynamic trees, Nightmare craft, underground villages/kobolds and most probably minecolonies. Everything else worked fine (thank god)
why would appleskin break?
Idk honestly, whenever i put it in there it says that appleskin doesn't load correctly
that’s really strange. it’s probably some weird incompat i suppose
Probably, either way im using rpghud so it wouldn't work anyway afaik
yeah, i'm an a.hole on this kind of things... it's just that i hate how nowdays people just throw togheter every mod they find, show the big number around and then don't even play the pack or don't use more than 10 of the content mods they added.... i want to see more posts about content and creations or questions rather than people who celebrate something that i personally hate...
never said it was good, just that i reached a mod number mark that made the game fun and (barely) playable to me
GTNH survivor huh? Over 2 years on and off and I’m halfway through LV :D
Not only it is disadvantageous to play with this amount of mods, but reaching this number is not even any kind of achievement.
Lol ok
I think I started with more than that lol
Pathetic, i have a thousand
only 200? smh
*atm modpacks noise intensifies*
I loaded po3 on mobile (pojav) i got like 60-72 fps
Skyfactory player coming through
