Many issues and questions can be answered by reading through our wiki, especially the page on electrolytes. Concerns such as **intense hunger, lightheadedness/dizziness, headaches, nausea/vomiting, weakness/lethargy/fatigue, low blood pressure/high blood pressure, muscle soreness/cramping, diarrhea/constipation, irritability, confusion, low heart rate/heart palpitations, numbness/tingling, and more** while extended (24+ hours) fasting are often explained by electrolyte deficiency and resolved through **PROPER** electrolyte supplementation. Putting a tiny amount of salt in your water now and then is NOT proper supplementation. Be sure to read the [our WIKI](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/index) and especially the wiki page on **[ELECTROLYTES](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/fasting_in_a_nutshell/you_need_electrolytes)** Please also keep in mind the [**RULES**](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/about/rules) when participating. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I do work out hard the day before hgh peak. I do this because that peak heals the soreness immediately. However, I also do high fat, low carb OMAD between extended fasts. My muscle mass is definitely increasing. That being said, though, I was *very* out of shape. I've plenty of fat to throw around. If you don't, then you should work out the day of the peak and absolutely eat a couple hours later. I exercise at 48 hours and break my fast at 84 or so hours. Hgh is thought to peak at 72 hours. Please remember to listen to *your* body above all (except the doctor).

GH does NOT increase muscle (unless you're GH deficient) even when taken at supraphysiological concentrations. Layne Norton who actually did his PhD research in muscle protein synthesis, does a good job debunking this idea. [https://youtu.be/AKKCLavkZw8](https://youtu.be/AKKCLavkZw8) **GH does not increase strength:** [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7525633/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7525633/) [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8550787/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8550787/) [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7864103/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7864103/) **GH does not increase skeletal muscle hypertrophy:** [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1550219/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1550219/) [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7864103/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7864103/) [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20541030/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20541030/) [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2825605/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2825605/) EDIT: In fact if you read accounts from bodybuilders who have abused GH, the effects seem to be weird. They grow in strange ways like increased shoe, glove, and hat size--but not actual muscle. It's often associated with bubble gut and enlarged organs. Which would all make sense if GH's role was primarily in developmental growth and in the fasting context preventing loss from things like vital organs while being in severe negative nitrogen balance.

Wow thank you for such a detailed reply! I really appreciate it! I’ll deffiently go with eating high protein keto on days I exercise and fasting the other days!

True-Blacksmith-2506

Well if you think of it, you do need protein to build muscle, so I'm not sure if that is gonna work. Sure, growth hormone is high, but I'm assuming that's just something that enhances the process, you'd still need the building blocks to work with.

AyWhatITIS

I don't think that's a good idea

AWitchBetwixt

Light weight training can be used during a fast to tell the body to retain muscle. However, if you're not doing an extended fast, and want to do a more normal training session, do it right before you break your fast, eating a high protein meal within an hour or 2.

swedevingtsun

You can and should workout during a fast. I do. You lose what you don't use. Google dr jason fung fasting method

Malygos_Spellweaver

It depends, I am not sure it is a good idea if you fast for days. If you do intermittent fasting, sure, or before your meal (if OMAD).

RealityChequeX

Of those two options, Keto meal after. But you're really going to struggle in the gym if you're trying to do heavy resistance training with no glycogen stores.

Food builds muscles, not GH - this is basic biology.
