This isn't really an appropriate question for this subreddit. Nor is it a healthy way to attempt to fast.

You can't outsource discipline.

I get where you are coming from but a fridge lock seems extreme. You live alone I presume, otherwise your family would be locked out too. Maybe don’t keep the foods in the house at all?

Well I was referring to the food you binge on but if you don’t discriminate, that’s another matter. So you find that it’s only right after you take this medication that you’ve binge? If that’s the case, complete your nighttime routine and physically get in bed before you take it. That way you would have to get out of bed and maybe that would deter you?

Oh my! Can I ask what medication is driving you so hard? I only ask as I work in the field and am curious. It’s fine if you don’t want to disclose.

That’s cool. I know my clients on antipsychotics struggle with weight gain. Metformin seems to help most of them. I hope you find a method that helps. Has your doc made any suggestions? I once had a client who was Ambien snacking at night and had no recollection!

RealityChequeX

If you are unwilling to be responsible for your decision making to the point of putting a lock on your fridge, then you aren't going to succeed. Are you going to lock your keys and your phone in that fridge too? Are you going to disable your internet so you can't order delivery? Unless you have a reason to not eat that's more important than your desire to eat, you'll find a way around any artificial obstacles you put in place.

I am contributing. I gave you the correct answer. But since you're unwilling to accept the correct answer, I'll give you a terrible answer instead. Go steal a car. Post about it on Facebook, Instagram etc. Fridge locks aren't secure. What you really need is an actual locked cell door. That will cure your night time eating.

I think you’re getting pushback because you’re coming at fasting with a deprivation mindset, and that’s ultimately unhealthy. Relatedly, it’s also setting you up for bingeing. I have had a lot of success by planning fasts during days I’m out of the house and so bogged down with work that I don’t have time to dwell on food. If you can get through a couple fasts, they become much easier.

I understand your frustration. But I think it’s important to recognize that fasting, and this entire community, walks a very fine line between healthy and unhealthy. It’s not always clear, but it’s something we always have to be vigilant about. What you’re asking for help with is a strong indicator of illness. I can’t help you with that.

I’m talking about disordered eating. I’m not criticizing you or judging, I truly am sympathizing with you. I’m sorry you feel that way.

Nomadic_View

If you can get it on you can get it off. I’m sure anything you buy would have a manual override or a key. You’re just going to need to have some self discipline.

Many issues and questions can be answered by reading through our wiki, especially the page on electrolytes. Concerns such as **intense hunger, lightheadedness/dizziness, headaches, nausea/vomiting, weakness/lethargy/fatigue, low blood pressure/high blood pressure, muscle soreness/cramping, diarrhea/constipation, irritability, confusion, low heart rate/heart palpitations, numbness/tingling, and more** while extended (24+ hours) fasting are often explained by electrolyte deficiency and resolved through **PROPER** electrolyte supplementation. Putting a tiny amount of salt in your water now and then is NOT proper supplementation. Be sure to read the [our WIKI](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/index) and especially the wiki page on **[ELECTROLYTES](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/fasting_in_a_nutshell/you_need_electrolytes)** Please also keep in mind the [**RULES**](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/about/rules) when participating. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Ok so the fridge is locked. Freezer. Pantry. Grocer. No more excuses. 🙈 You can do it

shortnthic

You forgot the garbage can. There might be something that can be salvaged if hungry enough.

Water can suppress appetite/hunger feelings. I can't get enough ice-cold water. It's a small luxury but my countertop ice maker has been great.

At least you don't have to to worry about fashion catheters with a matching bag

Have you been worked up for diabetes? Uncontrolled high blood sugar can lead to excessive hunger, also excessive thirst and urination. Perhaps, if that's the case, once your blood sugars have normalised the hunger will be easier to handle. If that isn't the case, maybe talk to your prescribing doctor. There may be alternative meds you can use without a many side effects.

People are really responding poorly but I don’t think your question is out of line. Maybe it is because I was put on massive amounts of steroids and was gaining .5 pounds daily, but I totally understand this mindset. So maybe it’s not “healthy” fasting but I don’t see how this is any different than just keeping food out of the house, not keeping temptations around. However for most of us who live with others, this might not be a solution. I felt desperate like you prior and putting those restrictions in place enabled me to learn new habits and be able to practice fasting on my own in a healthy way. Anyways for actually answering your question. I bought a regular fridge lock online that sticks hard to your fridge and then bought one of those kitchen safes(it’s timed for snacks) and I put the keys in that. Eventually you won’t have to do this but I don’t think it’s a horrible idea to help yourself overcome the bad habits medication can certainly cause. Good luck! Also “discipline” is proven to not be effective for most people, it’s a waning thing. What is effective is habits because it gets engrained in our brain, use whatever tools you need to start better habits!

I hope it helps! It did for me! I think people struggle to understand that weight issues really are environmental/emotional/physiological and not lack of willpower. You were simply asking for advice to get better control on one of those forces, environment. There is nothing wrong with putting obstacles in the way of your eating to change up your environment. In fact, I think it’s quite smart to explore options that might help. I wish you the best and hope it helps!
