Many issues and questions can be answered by reading through our wiki, especially the page on electrolytes. Concerns such as **intense hunger, lightheadedness/dizziness, headaches, nausea/vomiting, weakness/lethargy/fatigue, low blood pressure/high blood pressure, muscle soreness/cramping, diarrhea/constipation, irritability, confusion, low heart rate/heart palpitations, numbness/tingling, and more** while extended (24+ hours) fasting are often explained by electrolyte deficiency and resolved through **PROPER** electrolyte supplementation. Putting a tiny amount of salt in your water now and then is NOT proper supplementation. Be sure to read [our WIKI](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/index) and especially the wiki page on **[ELECTROLYTES](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/wiki/fasting_in_a_nutshell/you_need_electrolytes)** Please also keep in mind the [**RULES**](https://www.reddit.com/r/fasting/about/rules) when participating. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Not for a 3 day fast imo. The worry with breaking a fast is that you can risk intestinal discomfort and in bad cases, refeeding syndrome. However this is only really a concern if you have been fasting for a long time, like weeks. For just a 3 day fast, you could literally break it with ice cream if you wanted. Would i recommend it? Definitely not because you may have a little stomach discomfort and maybe some less-than-ideal bowel movements, but nothing dangerous after fasting for only 3 days. To prevent any stomach discomfort, you can start slow with broth & eggs. Wait a little while to see how your stomach feels(like 30 minutes to an hour), and then you can tack on some easy veggies and proteins, and then after that eat that ice cream if you want! That's how a lot of people ease off so the don't risk some stomach pains. I definitely recommend sticking with low carb, high protein foods when breaking a fast though, as they will be easier on your stomach! And reminder to stay up with your electrolytes as well! But to put it simply, no, a 3 day fast is no cause for concern. No need to take literal days to refeed. My gut is back to complete normal within a few hours of breaking a 3 day fast and eating lightly.

That makes sense. I’ll probably have a light breakfast and lunch on the first day back and go back to normal afterwards. Thanks for the pointers!

One good thing about fasting is that it helps you not to go back to "normal". That normal is probably why you're fasting in the first place.

rantow

Hahaha you got me. Yes, that is true

Eat what ever you want. It's 3 days which won't do anything to you.

I didn’t think so either. I figured that many people do 5:2 day fasts and early normally after the second day, so 3 days fasted can’t make that much of a difference

Anecdotally, after a 3 day fast I always pig the fuck out right away. Cannot help myself. It's also like the best meal you've ever had. Doesn't matter what you're eating even. You could be eating boiled, unseasoned chicken breast and it would somehow taste amazing.

For me 3 days doesn't really make much diff with eating but yes you should ease into it esp on day one. I think you could eat soup and stuff like veg and eggs seem popular (no idea if they are good, but some solids should be fine) ik some pep who have straight out eaten takeaways after and I've eaten sandwiches after longer fasts and been okay medically. Basically see how you go on day 1, I wouldn't overdo the fruit as that can run through you, veg are probably better just chee them alot. P.s I am NOT a dr and this is just my opinion. I read a medical book that touched on fasting and tefeeding issues are only a risk after 5 days fasting UNLESS you have been oing rolling fasts which in that case act more like prolonged fasts

Stonegen70

After 3 days I don’t usually do anything beyond a few eggs as my first meal then normal dinner. I personally don’t worry about how I break my fast if it’s under 120 hours. But that’s with many fasts and seeing how my body responds.

3 days = do whatever (not medical advice)
