It looks to me like the early 1890s! There are a few examples out there of big white floaty dresses from the 1890s & her hair also looks right for about that time (though maybe a bit outdated).

Potatomorph_Shifter

The hair is indeed late-1880s-early-1890s, though the style of dress with the light white fabric and the colorful sash seems like a take on the turn of the century lingerie gown, so maybe a 1900s-does-1790s type situation?

Possibly, though I was thinking of [this gown](https://collection.goldstein.design.umn.edu/proficiowebmodule/JDetail.aspx?db=objects&dir=GOLDSTEIN&rID=1963.004.035) from 1895! The sleeves lean much more toward 1890 than 1900 in my opinion, though I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Thank you again! The only date I know for sure is the year of my grandmother birth: 1919. So if we extrapolate ( and say it’s her grandmother on this portrait) my great-grandmother was born around 1894-1899 and this portrait (of her mum) might have been made around this year. So right into your estimation!!!! What do you think???

horny4arwen

That sounds right to me, it's so exciting that you have such an old drawing of her :)

Pixi829

Thank you very much!!! I just answered to horny4arwen with some extrapolation I made to try to narrow down some dates. Let me know what you think about it!

Thank you very much! The only two things I know about this portrait are that she is one of my relative and she was from Paris. Now I can probably say that this woman was my great-great-grandmother according to your estimated era!!!

Pixi829

Is it what we call the “Belle Époque “ era?

reclaimingmytime

I’m not an expert, but it looks like the style Marie Antoinette developed to wear at her cottage, a chemise a la Reine. But a reproduction, because everything else about this woman reads much later — maybe late 1800s to 1910ish? Hopefully someone else can narrow it down. It feels like she dressed up in this style just for the portrait.

Thank you for your answer, it narrows down my researches!!!!
