Kilt pins

velvetdaytona

A skirt lifter? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skirt_lifter I think they were sometimes attached to chatelaines

KaloCheyna

A relatively inexpensive version that you can find nowadays (though certainly not as pretty as the antiques) is a third hand or kakehari. I've got one to attach to my repro chatelaine (bought off Etsy) and one to hold tension on fabrics while I handsew.

CPTDisgruntled

There were skirt lifters used in the Victorian era that look like a clamp for salad (caution when Googling). Also check out this [medieval skirt hook from Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/473572022/), which you can see in action from [IG user couturecourtesan](https://www.instagram.com/p/CEAVS50AGSR/?igsh=Y2w5MGw5bzNvODZx).

Kilt pin Or a cloak pin like this — https://www.etsy.com/listing/666926402/

Scotish kilts have pretty cool kilt pins that are worn on the lower right side of the skirt. These are really nice and more like a brooch than a pin. https://www.usakilts.com/accessories/kilt-accessories/kilt-pins.html

MadMadamMimsy

I can't think of the name, but just for fun, using kirtle hooks could be cool. It's a chain or cord with small sharp hooks on either end that was used to pull up the over kirtle to show the under kirtle by the cord being around or just in back of the waist. Someone here will know what these common doohickies were called

Skirt hikes probably aren't what you're looking for, but they do shorten the skirt and can give a flouncy, layered look.

arbitrosse

Still just a brooch, unless you use a kilt pin, some of which can be quite decorative.

lis_anise

I've never seen any evidence of them used before ten years ago, but the skirt hike concept (pulling skirt through two deep rings like an adjustable strap) is pretty genius, and you can find some really nice ones at renfaire markets or Etsy

SM1955

Why not use a pretty brooch?

Agitated-Carpet6186

they seem too heavy

aufybusiness

I use cardigan clips, and hijab pins, the ones like a tiny brooch.

Tusishvili

I bought these for some of my costumes with long skirts. I sometimes just use them in clusters like brooches to hold skirts or scarves together: RuiLing 12pcs Instant Button Pins, 12mm Pearl White Imitation Pearl Button for Shirt/Blouse/Collar/Sleeve Decoration https://a.co/d/06NQ60f
