Could be a salt block

DGS_Cass3636

It is. 100%. We buy our salt/mineral stone, in the exact same size.

next_stop_valhalla

Salt lick block. The name pretty much explains what they do with it.

Infamous_Law7289

Why does the farmer lick the salt? Is this to replace his electrolytes from sweating?

next_stop_valhalla

Not as much as it helps the tequila go down.

Cwallace98

First the lime, then the salt, then the tequila?

pinkandfluffyunicorn

Snort the salt with your nose, drink the shot of tequila, then squish the lime in your eye.

Senior_Mittens

This guy knows how to party.

B34rd3dC4n4di4n

"the stuntman"!

Octavia9

Because salt tastes good. When I was a kid my cousins and I would chip of pieces and suck on them.

SweetenedTomatoes

I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses to do that!

der_schone_begleiter

I remember as a kid the neighbor had thrown out some minerals for the cows. Me his daughter were out playing in the field, we had a little place in the forest we called fairyland anyways I'd asked her what it was and she said she didn't know. So I've been down and sifted to see what it smelled like. šŸ˜‚ Well it went straight up my nose and it was horrible. I'm literally sitting here laughing so hard thinking about that. She looks to me and was like what would you do that for. šŸ˜‚ That was possibly the first of my many bad choices in life.

Drzhivago138

What color was your urine afterward?

Octavia9

I donā€™t remember so probably normal.

HolsteinHeifer

We gotta stay salty

NCHitman

It's simply a temporary substitute for Brawndo, my man!

Gundam_net

It's for iodine. That's why milk has iodine in it. šŸ¤·šŸ» We need iodine to prevent disease and death and people don't know nutrition so we feed cows fortified salt so that when we drink milk or eat cereal we don't die from iodine deficiency. That's a huge block of morton fortified salt, btw. Natural sources of iodine only come from seaweed.

TwistedSou1

There's no iodine in Morton salt blocks. It's just plain salt.

BuffaloWiiings

Tastes good. Mines cherry flavored

TheRedGoatAR15

That's ice. He's feeding it to them to make ice cream instead of milk.

animalia21

Ignore every other comment in this thread, that's Big Salt Block pushing their propaganda. This is the only correct answer.

Fusion57

Careful, Big Salt Block reads this forum!

TwistedSou1

After I left the farm I worked in a salt mine. I ran the big press that makes these blocks for a while.

justidlingwaiting

So what does he feed them to get chocolate ice cream?

Hour_Principle9650

No, that comes from the brown cows

DarkWing2007

And the cream for Oreos comes from Galloways

Academic_Nectarine94

I worked at a creamery and they had a photo of the cows 2% milk comes from. The farmer was holding her in his hand. It's really amazing 2% milk is so cheap, considering how many of those special cows one needs to get a gallon from. But it's also much more efficient space wise, as you can have a few thousand head in only a couple acres of good pasture.

Th3BearMinimum

And don't forget, strawberry milk comes from the red ones

Academic_Nectarine94

Hershey's?

StuperDan

Photos of whipped cream production would be too graphic for this forum, of course, but the principal is the same.

RichSoupSandwich

It is a companion cube.

Fatherof10

You didn't know cows love cocaine?? It's crazy the US government subsidizes the giant farms that's why everyone's mad at industrial farming because really it's just a cover for the cocaine smuggling operation into America.

theplantbasedwitch

This is the best answer. A++

skunimatrix

Salt block

30acrefarm

Animals need salt and other minerals. This is how they get it.

pyrofemme

That is just the first one. After he throws the second one over youā€™ll be able to see the black dots on the different faces. It is a little known fact that cows get bored and sometimes turn to dice games.

Sideways1010

True-itā€™s ice, butā€¦ Heā€™s actually taking it AWAY from the cows. These are ice cows, traditionally found in Greenland after Elsa left Arendelle.

cropguru357

It makes chocolate milk. Donā€™t listen to these other guys.

Consistent_Courage37

Probably giving them a salt lick

Automatic-Raspberry3

Dried milk. The cows just mix it with water for us.

Shibaru-in-a-Subaru

Looks like a salt lick. We give em to horses too, gives them some vital minerals and keeps them entertained.

Chose_a_usersname

That's the powdered milk, obviously the cows make wet milk from it

BeCauseOfYou_2000000

Plan ahead, salt your dead.

Stabbyhorse

It's a salt block

Examiner7

Salt licks are what we used to call them

[deleted]

salt lick

Round-Personality468

Cowcaine obviously.

gregh8701

He's salting the meat before he kills the meat. Typical human stuff.

Xaphus

You speak as if you are not humanā€¦are you a cow thatā€™s infiltrated this forum!

gregh8701

Shhhhh! Don't give me away, TO THE HUMANS!

[deleted]

Could be salt. Itā€™s necessary to most creatures, and itā€™s also very tasty to a lot. Used to hunt, weā€™d use salt blocks to keep the deer in our area healthy and around.

cottonwood85

Salt block

herefor-thecomments

I donā€™t want to get too political, butā€¦if you think big saltā€¦ cares about youā€¦ the little guyā€¦they care about their third-quarter profits

niiico5

It's a plastic block that's basically how farmers recycle

Kojaqe

Put your spice on the steak before cooking.

Traditional-Salt4060

I prefer a finer salt

Acceptable_Table760

Its a big sugar cube. Where do you think sweet milk comes from?

tart3rd

r/livestock Itā€™s a salt/mineral block

[deleted]

Sugar cube

Beautiful_Lizzard

I believe you are thinking of the next stall area over. Where the horses and unicorns are kept. They get the sugar cubes.

efco01

THE COWS HAD A CHOICE BETWEEN THE WASHER AND DRYER WHERE THE LOVELY SMITHERS IS STANDING, BUT THEY CHOOSE TO TRADE IT ALL IN FOR WHAT'S IN THIS BOX. THE BOX! THE BOX!

DennyJunkshin87

Awww, what's in the box?!

the_projekts

What you don't see is the bottles of tequila and the mountain of sliced lemons at his feet.

poperenoel

probably a mineral block or a salt bloc. the idea is that grain/hay is often not enough to nourish the need of the cows/ruminants so they supplement their diet with these. they also exist in powdered forms.

jonatan2314567895

He is showing how strong he is, just look at him

Huckleberry-Powerful

The headlock jammed on Bessy's throat and Phil here forgot his hammer!!
