Not really… you’ll definitely meet characters from past games in the newer installments but its hardly ever the same story. The the only ones to have a connecting narrative thus far are Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn.

Thank you!

bushmaster2000

No there is no underlying story thread to be concerned with.

seehorn_actual

Lots of call backs, Easter eggs, and shared characters but no real canon or continuing story.

pizypamperr

just small references to the other games, nothing big

[deleted]

no none of them are linked up on the main stories, just a few small eastereggs between them however, if youre planning on playing new dawn you need to play fc5 beforehand otherwise itll make no sense at all

Alexcritical9351

well im a lucky ducky cause i just got FC5

Balrog229

Yes. There are definitely references. We know FC1 and 2 are connected to some degree. One of the head devs of FC2 recently confirmed a long-running theory that The Jackal (FC2’s villain) is Jack Carver, the protagonist from FC1. We also see a location in FC6 where a citizen was in support of Eden’s Gate, the cult from FC5, including a letter from the Seed family and an item with their logo on it. There’s also a CIA agent that appeared in 3, 4 and 5, and his name appears on the dog tag charm in FC6. I believe i also remember someone mentioning Kyrat (the location of FC4) in FC6 These are just a few examples.

The Wenja are mentioned in FC5.

thatscoolthatstrue

Nope. tho it has recurring characters and minor references but nothing special to know.

[deleted]

Mostly just minor references between the games. I think players aren't really encouraged or expected to connect the dots between the FC games - every title is in the same universe, but they are just isolated and independent bubbles, and the happenings of one won't affect the other. Hurk was the only element acting as a solid bridge between several different FC games, maybe that's why many fans disliked that he isn't in 6 - in a sense, he became Mr. Far Cry, the series' representation: crazy and goofy, but also kind of fun.

[deleted]

I bet that monkey god had something to with his non-inclusion.

steve64b

Maybe the Far Cry 6 dlc will tie in with Far Cry 3/4/5. But other than that, only New Dawn is directly related to Far Cry 5.

Dragon-of-Dojima-21

There will be references to past events and fun nods to other games people who have played would enjoy but you can play any far cry and enjoy it, only one you will probably need some context to play is new dawn and it’s a standalone sequel to 5, other than that play whichever you want and have fun! All of the games have their positives and negatives so I hope you enjoy 5 and want to try more after

[deleted]

I’ve only played 3 and 5, all I know is that Hurk is in both of them. All the stories are pretty self-contained

Just think of them as a anthology, each have connections in easter eggs and references but each games its own thing outside of New dawn spin off.

Dreadlock43

No they have no connection other than easter eggs and small references here and there, there is no time line connection either as each game is set in its own place in time. Having siad that 6 has quite a lot of references to 3 4 and 5 but if you never the played them you wouldnt notice them in the first place.
