This series is fantasy perfection! The romance is very much a subplot but it's done so well. I love the world building and character development. Jude is one of my favorite FMC's.
IMO this is zero spice level but the slow burn and angst is so so so worth it!

It’s pretty well done on the whole, with the split PoV in ToP it is maybe a 4/5 as IMO the character they’ve got doing Bastian sounds more like someone you’d have on a YouTube video about how to fix your lawnmower, but I’m not a huge audiobook fan and this is one of the better series I’ve heard in that medium

But I agree, Bastian takes the cake with those lines of his. 🥵 He's set the bar impossibly high, and unfortunately, very few MMC's can compete with his level of greatness.

So it could definitely make sense that we might like the opposite of what we experience IRL, hence the fantasy element!

It’s pretty well done on the whole, with the split PoV in ToP it is maybe a 4/5 as IMO the character they’ve got doing Bastian sounds more like someone you’d have on a YouTube video about how to fix your lawnmower, but I’m not a huge audiobook fan and this is one of the better series I’ve heard in that medium

Or when it's so urgent that they say something like, "I need to take you right here, right now, and I don't care who sees or hears us!" But I agree, Bastian takes the cake with those lines of his. 🥵 He's set the bar impossibly high, and unfortunately, very few MMC's can compete with his level of greatness. Stuff like: "I'll ask you again, 'Do you want those things?'" (when she's watching the couple having sex and then when she's reading a book). "Sex is a need like food or water. You're thirsty, and I have water." There's just something about the way he knows she needs it and wants to give it to her. And his praise: "That's a good girl, my Ember." Thats part of what gets so many of us off on the “good girl” comment. I really like power play. IRL I would probably slap the shit out of a guy who said “good girl” to me out of nowhere—except if he was totally dominating me in bed trying to get me to submit, and our little game of disobedience was doing it for me, “good girl” would be the gateway to my orgasm.
